  • Gizmo5 mobile with wifi and callin number

    I want to buy a Nokia 5530 and run Gizmo5 on it in order to receive and make calls. I want to get a call in number based in England and was wondering if receiving calls via the call in number on my mobile via wifi would use any of my callout credit? I ask because the Skype lite version uses your callout credit if you receive a call on it using your online number (it doesn't if you use the desktop version). Thanks!

  • wireless router - configuring for low-latency, high traffic environment

    Hey all, I have a few questions about configuring a router to achieve low-latency, high speed throughput on a local area network that is not connected to the internet. I've read up on some stuff, but thought I would solicit some opinions here on what I've found and what I want to know.... Turn off SSID broadcast - it produces extraneous packets that all clients receive and reply (?) to. Not a huge deal, but it may help a bit. Mixed-mode off - I should attempt to have all devices using the same standard (e.g. 802.11n) and turn mixed-mode off. Any thoughts on security? Does having WEP or any of the WPA variants actually increase latency? Nothing super secure is going over this LAN so if turning security off made things better, that'd be cool. Any other thoughts or things to focus on to create the low latency environment I'm trying to go for would be great. Links to webpages and papers are also cool. I'm open to go through a bunch of stuff. Thanks in advance!

  • Super slow opening my downloads folder

    I have an exe file in my download folder that I half downloaded through utorrent (it's not piracy, a legit file from people who use bittorrent to distribute large files). I think I tried to open it while it was still sharing, that is, did not stop the upload. That actually froze my computer. When I restart in utorrent I set the file to be deleted. Unfortunately even though utorrent doesn't see that file anymore, it's still visible in my download folder. Whenever I try to open my download folder it literally takes 10 minutes or more. It opens, but is empty and the blue progress bar needs a long time to complete. After completion I can use the download folder normally, but opening and closing things in that folder takes a long time. I see the exe that I tried to download. I tried to delete it. But it was taking so long 30+ minutes that I eventually just hit cancel. That doesn't even work, and it was slowing down the computer. Couldn't figure out how to stop the delete so I just pulled the plug. Should I just forget about that dl folder and set a new one? Is there something I can do? Thanks.

  • Will restarting the W3SVC Web Publishing Service, also restart the app pool in IIS?

    Background: I'm trying to stop and start IIS on a windows 7 build box, in order to run acceptance tests. But from what I have read, most of the remote web management features have been disabled by Microsoft in a retarted attempt to sell more Windows Server 2008 licenses. Still for some reason they didn't disable the least user-friendly ways of controlling IIS remotely, but they are all a total pain. What I can do easily is remotely stop and start the WWW service from a msbuild task. But I want to be sure that this also restarts the app pool, so that when I copy in new web files the web server there will be serving the most recent version of the website. Question: If I restart the W3SVC windows service, will that also restart the app pool?

  • Equivalent of scp -l bandwidth_cap for .ssh/config?

    Short form: You can limit the bandwidth the scp uses with the -l switch, you pass a number that's in kbits/sec. I'd rather set this in my .ssh/config file for certain names machines. What's the equivalent named setting for -l ? I haven't been able to find it. Followup question: Generally, not sure how to map back and forth between ssh command line options and config names, short of doing Google searches or manually comparing man pages on a case by case basis. Is there a table that directly equates the two? Longer form of first question, with context: I've started using ssh config quite a bit, especially now that I need to go through a proxy and do lots of port mappings. I even define the same machine more than once depending on what type of tunneling I need. However, when uploading a large file, it's difficult to do anything else on my machine. Even though I have more download bandwidth than up, I think that scp saturates the link so even my small requests can't reach the Internet. There's a fix for this, using the -l bandwidth command line switch for scp. scp -l 1000 bigfile.zip titan: I'd like to use this in my config instead, so I'd create an additional named entry called "titan-upload" and I'd use that as the target whenever I upload. So instead of: scp bigfile.zip titan: I'd say: scp bigfile.zip titan-upload Or even set different caps depending on where I am: scp bigfile.zip titan-upload-from-home vs. scp bigfile.zip titan-upload-from-work I'm generally on Mac and Linux.

  • Excel data range - to sum series within date range

    I have a set of data that I would like to manipulate but my problem is not straight forward. In this data I have date ranges that include multiple entries of the same date on some days and not on others. What I need to accomplish is to manage a trading account so that no more than 1% of the account is put at risk on any given day (retrospectively). To do this, when a series of trades falls on the same day, I need to total the risk associated with each of those trades so that I can limit the total risk of the combined trades by limiting the position size I take in each. Here is a sample set of the data I am working with. As you can see, there are 5 trades on Jan 3. Each of these trades comes with a risk value. I need to add the risk values of these 5 trades so that I can compare it to an account value and then determine if I should take more than 1 position in each trade. As you can see there are different numbers of trades that occur on the 4th, 5th 6th and 9th. I need the values returned in each row so that I can further manipulate them in the spreadsheet. I am not new to Excel, but cannot come up with a solution here - your input is much appreciated.   • Word: MAC 2011, TOC on too many pages

    I have a Word: MAC 2011 document where the bottom of the first 40 pages or so say "TOC: Page x". This notation appears to be in the Footer, as it is gray until I click on it (then the rest of the text goes gray instead). There is no TOC that I can see in the document, so I'm presuming someone tried to create one and messed things up. After the first 40 pages or so, all the other bottom of the page notations appear to be correct. (i.e. Chapter One, Chapter Two, etc.) How can I get those first 40 pages to be part of Chapter One rather than TOC?

  • Mysql connections hanging in login state

And as suddenly as things stopped working, they started working again. DNS was working fine at the time. Replication was still working. MySQL was responsive. Does anyone have any idea what would cause MySQL logins from remote IPs to hang suddenly?

  • Network Sharing Issues

    I have two computers I want to have on a network share together (so the laptop can print through the desktop's printer). These are both connected to the same router. (One wired and one wireless) And they both have the same workgroup name. However, when I type "net view" in the command prompt, the only computer that shows up is the computer I type the command into. How do I get these computers to be shared with each other? Update: The tower is running Windows XP, the Laptop is running Windows 7. I have disabled the Firewall on both until I get this set up. Update 2: Typing the command net view on my desktop is acting very strangely. Noe sometimes it only shows itself on the list of computers, sometimes it shows itself and the laptop and sometimes it doesn't work at all and displays system error 6118. I typed net view into the command prompt on the Windows 7 laptop and both computers showed up, so I went to connect to the desktop from the laptop and it said the dekptop could not be found, even though it is showing up int he list of shared computers.   • How to accept email *only* from white-listed addresses in Gmail? [migrated]

    I only want to accpet email from two addresses, the rest I want to delete immediately, unseen. I know how to make fileers and I can whitelist those two addresses. If I make 3 filter, in this order; 1) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 2) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 3) from *@*.* delete immediately, never move to trash can I be guaranteed that that will do what I want? For instance, can I be sure that the filters are executed in that order? I dont want to lose amy mail from those two adresses.

  • Merely installing PHP5 causes my AWS Ubuntu server to die minutes later from a massive CPU spike

    I have an AWS server with Ubuntu 11.04 as the OS that is running an Apache2 webserver (incidentally Python-based and using Django). We recently needed to add support for php5 to let us use a third party PHP library (incidentally for serving minified versions of js and css files). However, for no reason any of us can discern, if we simply run sudo apt-get install php5 on the server, then the install appears to finish successfully but, without us taking any further action (including not yet running sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5, which I think would be the next step for us if everything worked), or actually running any PHP scripts on the server, a few minutes later the server becomes impossible to connect to, and looking at the 'Monitoring' tab for the server in the EC2 Management Console reveals that a while after the installation, CPU usage spikes to 100% and stays there permanently (until we reboot the server from the AWS Console). After rebooting, the server also reliably dies within a few (between 0 and 10) minutes. We restored the server to a pre-PHP state from an AMI Image, observed that it was stable, and then tried installing PHP5 again and observed the server die in exactly the same way, so we're pretty much certain that installing PHP5 is what causes the symptoms. What on earth could be causing this behaviour, and how can we get PHP installed on the server without it dying?

  • Outlook 2007 Script that sends new form email when a message is dragged and dropped into a folder

    Is it possible to write a script that will allow Outlook to automatically send out a new email to a distribution list when you drag and drop and previously opened email into a specified folder? The rules only let you apply them to received and sent messages. They do not allow you to apply it to anything that is dragged and dropped after being opened. It baffles me that Novell Groupwise had this functionality but Outlook 2007 does not. If someone can assist me in writing a script/macro to provided this functionality, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Just got put in charge of a big web project. All I know is the web server is running MS SQL 2005, so I need something comparable to test locally. I figure developer edition is my best bet because it offers everything that the enterprise edition does, but is for development purposes only. But this page is pretty worthless http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/developer.aspx Where do I actually download it? What about SQL 2005 Express? Would that meet my needs? I can't figure out all the differences between these stupid MS products.

  • rsync remote to local automatic backup

    Because all my work is stored on a remote server I would like to auto backup my server monthly and weekly. My server is running Centos 5.5 and while searching the web I'm found a tool named rsync. I got my first update manually by using this command in terminal: sudo rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP I then prompt my password for that user and bob's my uncle. This backups the necessary files from my remote server to my local device but does somebody know how I can automate this? Like automatic running this script every sunday? EDIT I forgot to mention that I let direct admin backup the files I need and then copy those files from the remote server to a local server.

  • Performance decrease in every game and application

    When I start a game, initially it runs smoothly, but after a couple of minutes, the performance gradually decreases to the point of being unplayable (1-2 FPS). The sound also starts to lag at this point. This does not happen every time I start my PC, usually exiting the game, rebooting, then starting the game again solves the problem, and I can play with perfect FPS for as long as I want. I could not find any deterministic reason when this happens and when doesn't. It happens in every game I tried (SWTOR, Diablo 3, Skyrim), and not even games, but simple applications like a browser or the Control Panel can get unusably slow. This is a brand new PC I bought three months ago, and this problem occurs since the first day I've been using it. Could you provide any advice how to further diagnose the problem? I tried to reinstall Windows, and tried different video card drivers, but it did not help. It would be important to know whether this is a hardware or software problem, because I can use the warranty if it is a hardware issue. (I did not want to return the PC yet, because I can't reproduce the issue deterministically.)   • Installing Windows 7 from a USB Hard Drive.

    I have a Western Digital Passport External Hard Drive (320GB) that I want to partition to keep the data on, but use some of the free space to install Windows 7 onto my desktop computer. Microsoft has given me the Windows 7 Enterprise Edition ISO to download. I would like to take the External HD and partition it so I can fit the ISO image onto it. How would I go about doing this? Trying to use GParted to partition the external hard drive has caused a chicken or the egg problem. GParted can't see the drive unless it's mounted, and when it is mounted it will not allow me to do anything to the partition. When it's not mounted, GParted can't see the drive at all and as such can't do anything to the drive. Once the drive is correctly partition, how do I go about moving the ISO image Microsoft gave me to my USB External Hard Drive? Are there any special steps that I need to take? I am using Ubuntu 11.04 & GParted 0.7.0, on my Chromebook to do this. Any support would be appreciated.

  • Can't find windows 2000 domain after PDC Change

    This is a windows 2000 domain issue. I had an old win2000 PDC that was beginning to fail. So, trying to be pre-emptive, I installed a new BDC, then "demoted" the old PDC and took it off the network. Now it appears that no member server can "find" the domain anymore. No logins work (for services or a RDP or anything). What I've tried (based on googling): Verified sysvol is shared on all servers. Used nslookup to verify that DC's are being found. netdiag /fix meta data cleanup routines. verified no firewall issues (port 389 etc) seizing all roles to new PDC (I did that as part of the original promotion). LMHOST file and Netbios settings. At the moment it seems like I can get the DC's returned but cannot contact them. I'm at a loss. My latest attempt was to remove a member server from the domain and try to "re-add" it. When I do that I get this message: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cfwebtools.com The following domain controllers were identified by the query: db-dev1.cfwebtools.com file-prod1.cfwebtools.com cfwt-pdc2.cfwebtools.com However no domain controllers could be contacted. It then goes on to ask if I've checked my A record and made sure they are running. Is there a way to force this domain to be seen? I also shared sysvol (or double checked it) and restarted the dfsr service. More information. I got looking at sysvol and found it was not shared on 2 of these servers. Only one of them (db-dev1) has a "good" or at least "populated" sys vol store. So I tried doing a "d2" recovery of my PDC against that good sysvol. But it never synchs - or at least it does not seem to synch. I'm guessing if I could get sysvol and netlogin to kick in and replicate that would fix my issue. I think these DC's aren't responding because they are waiting for replication which is broken somehow. Would taking down all the DC's except for db-dev1 fix the issue - at least temporarily? I know I can't just copy the sysvol stuff over to the other 2 can I?

  • How do you configure IIS 7 to use a subdirectory as the default document?

    So I have a website running on a discount asp.net account, and I put an asp.net mvc app in a subdirectory. If my url is 'www.website.com' and my app is in directory 'sample', then 'www.website.com/sample' will execute the mvc app. My problem is that I want the app to be shown when you go to 'www.website.com' not just 'www.website.com/sample'. I have access to the IIS Manager, and I'm sure there are many ways to do this. What's the best way to do this?

    I have a problem where any program is started under Windows Vista, the following error message is generated Bad Image C;\PROGRA~1\Google\GOOGLE~3\GOEC62~1.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. This happens for every program started, including those that start automatically at boot time. My Google-fu is failing to solve this for me. I have already tried an "sfc /scannow" which did find some problems, but it said that it could not correct them. What might cause this problem? How might it be resolved?

  • Is it possible to push DNS search suffices from DNS server to client?

    Our (active directory, windows-server-based) intranet used to be called "intranet", and DNS worked fine for windows machines and iPads/Android devices. We have changed it to be "apps.intranet", and it still works for windows machines, but no longer for iPads/Android devices. I think this is because out windows clients are configured to append .company.com when searching DNS, to make it a fully qualified lookup (this search suffix list is pushed to the PCs via AD group policies). I must admit, though, I don't know why it worked with just "intranet"! Does anyone know if it's possible to get DNS to "tell" the iPads/Android devices to append .company.com ... or how we can make it work some other way (but still using the multi-label, non-qualified DNS names) ?   • How do I know if my disks are being hit with too many I/O reads or writes or both?

    I know a bit about disk I/O and bottlenecks relating to this especially when relating to databases. How do I really know what the max I/O numbers will be for my disks? What metric might be available to me for working out roughly (but needs to be a good approximation) of how much capacity (if you will) have I got left available in I/O. I've seen it before where things are bubbling along nicely and then all of a sudden, everything screams to a halt, and it ends up being an I/O bound problem. Is there a better way to predict when I/O is reaching its limits? This article was interesting but not giving the answer I desire. So, is my best bet surrounding just looking at 'CPU I/O WAIT'? There must be a more reactive method than this.

  • Check keyword popularity of 2000 phrases?

    I just found a list of about 2000 car manufacturers which I want to put into a drop-down list... but 2000 is probably a bit too many, so I want to filter it down to maybe the top 100 most popular cars. I figure I can just use Google search popularity to give me a rough estimate of how popular the car is... but I can't find a tool that will let me query 2000 keywords. Anyone know of one?
