  • Windows 8.1 Upgrade: I have to run everything as administrator now?

    I was running Windows 8 x64 Professional before and I never had to run programs as administrator to get them to function fully. Examples: Chrome OpenVPN GUI I always have my user under the local "Administrators" group and also disable UAC by putting the slider for it at the very bottom. This always did the trick. After the Windows 8.1 upgrade, I run into a few issues: Running Chrome normally, the Chrome icon doesn't appear in the taskbar. Chrome won't run in the background. OpenVPN GUI has errors when launching. Running both as administrator (Right Click Run as Administrator) fixes those issues and they run perfectly. What has changed in Windows 8.1 upgrade to cause these "problems"? I'm an advanced user, I don't want to have to worry about administrative rights. Any advice on how to fix these problems? EDIT I also get prompted for administrator permission to delete directories under "Program Files" now... that never used to happen before. I can hit Continue and it will allow me to delete, but just another symptom of the problem...

  • NPS wont run or install error code 0x80070643

    attempt to install network policy server failed with error code 0x80070643 fatal error during installation. The sbs server ran an update on friday and since then NPS has not worked, I have checked permissions on system32\IAS and the builtin OU but still cannot run NPS. My last attempt to removed and reinstall has now left the machine unable to install NPS at all! Has anyone seen this or have a direction to suggest? Other google's have shown people haven't resolved it!

  • way to access Win networked folder on Mac like one can with Run box on Win

    I was wondering if there is a way to access a deeply nested shared networked Windows folder on Mac (Lion) like you can on windows with the Run box. say I know the folder I want is on the computer Homer-PC, the G drive, the folder ABC/234/CDE on Windows I can Win+R then \Homer-PC\G\ABC\234\CDE return and it should open that folder directly, Is there something similar on the Mac? Or is there some tiny apps that I can use to do that? Thank You

Basically he wants to set up Django app (made on Django 1.3, but will be moving to Django 1.4, so it should not really matter which one of these two will work, I hope) on WSGI on nginx, installed on Amazon EC2. The app runs correctly when Django's development server is used (with ./manage.py runserver 0.0.0.0:8080 for example), also Apache works correctly. The only problem is with nginx and it looks there is something else wrong with nginx / WSGI or Django configuration. His description is as follows: Server has been configured according to many tutorials, but unfortunately Nginx and uWSGI still do not work with application.   • Cron - run task every 90 min.

    Trying to adjust a cron job to run every 90 min. It was previously running every 20 min, which was a simple cron job: */20 * * * * whatever To change it to every 90, it seems like I need to split it into 2 jobs, I've done this: 0 0,3,6,9 * * * whatever 30 1,4,7,10 * * * whatever Is this right? The job doesn't seem to kick off.

  • Linux-Mint Maya Mate loses Alt-F1 menu and Alt-F2 run-dialog with Compiz

    I like the Linux-Mint 13 Mate Alt-F1 menu and the Alt-F2 run-dialog, but as soon as I installed Compiz those keys became non-functional. Conpiz has a Gnome compaatibility settings panel which allows you to set these keys, but using that Compix settings panel did not make any diference (probably because Mate is not Gnome, strictly speaking)... Is there some way to get those two shortcut keys back into acton with Compiz?

However on the java website, the mac section indicates that MAC provides its own java and should use the software update software to get the latest java application.   • how to add solr to run on startup?

    I asked this question before, but I think I got answers that were cron job type answers. I want the solr service to startup if I reboot my computer, and I also want it to run by itself instead of me opening up cmd.exe and running it manually, and then having to close my terminal connection (not log off as that will close it). What options do I have? I am on windows server 2008, IIS7 running a asp.net application that uses solr.

I need this to for example turn on/off speed limit for Transmission (as it is sometimes hard to work when hashing/downloading on full speed).
