• git merge, git rebase none seems to work, should I delete my github fork and refork from the upstream master?

  I have to confess my github sins. 4 month ago, I forked a upstream repo, without knowing much of git and pull request, i did some work on master branch locally, later on I realized the mistake, created a new branch, and squashed the changes to one and successfully send a PR later from that branch. the PR is accepted, and I moved on. Now I need to submit another PR. But my master branch is so messed up, when I do merge, or rebase, there are so many mistakes. I probably committed a few more sins this morning. I have been battling this for the whole morning now. so it comes to the point that I want a clean start. Can I delete the github fork and refork from the upstream master? What are the correct steps?

• Retrieving specific tuples using Mysql

  Hi, I have some problems retrieving specific tuples. I am actually a student trying to build a Room management system. I have two tables: Room(roomID,hotelname,rate) and Reservation(resID,arriveDate,departDate,roomID). I am not sure how to retrieve the rooms that are available between 2 specific dates. This was the query that i used. SELECT Room.roomID,hotelname,rate FROM Room LEFT JOIN Reservation on ( Room.roomID=Reservation.resID and arriveDate >='2010-02-16' and departDate <='2010-02-20' ) GROUP BY roomID,hotelname,rate HAVING count(*)=0;' but it returns an empty set. Can any1 be kind enough to tell me what mistake i am doing??

• There is more then one Point class

  Today I hit something very annoying while working with one of my colleagues. It seems there are two Point classes in .NET and by mistake we were trying for a good few minutes to figure out why our "Point(x,y)" wouldn’t take double, but only Int. Turns out we were using the wrong one since the XAML element in question needed the version with Double. So, based on what you actually want to do, make sure you’re using the right namespace. • Rscript does not recognize setGeneric function

  I am trying to convert an R script into something that a client can run in batch mode. My code uses generic functions and one snippet which is near the beginning goes like: setGeneric("testInput", function(inputData, params = list()) standardGeneric("testInput")) I've been using R CMD BATCH and it works fine. However I couldn't find an easy way to make my script print the output on the console, so based on that (and suggestion that Rscript.exe is the "proper" way to run R batch files) I decided to switch to Rscript. However when running the very same .R file with Rscript I get the following: Error: could not find function "setGeneric" Execution halted I know there is probably a trivial reason behind this but I just cannot figure it out. • Confusion between JPA and Hibernate cascading

  I'm using Hibernate 3.6 and have my code annotated (versus using hibernate mapping files). I ran into the known "problem" of using JPA cascading options that are not compatible with Hibernate's CascadeType (see this link for more info http://www.mkyong.com/hibernate/cascade-jpa-hibernate-annotation-common-mistake/). I was hoping to get a bit more clarification on the problem. I have some particular questions: 1) So @Cascade({CascadeType.SAVE_UPDATE}) works for saveOrUpdate(), but does it apply also if I use merge() or persist()? or do I have to use all three Hibernate CascadeTypes? 2) How do I decide whether to use JPA cascade options or the Hibernate @Cascade annotation instead? 2) There is a "bug" filed against this in Hibernate, but the developers apparently see this as a documentation issue, (I'm completely disagree with them), and I'm not seeing that it was addressed in said documentation. Anyone know why this is "working as designed" and not a bug in Hibernate's JPA implementation? Many thanks in advance.

• Cross Domain Cookies Problem (ASP.NET)

  Hi guys, i have a problem with cross-domain cookies. I read a lot of documentation about sharing cookies between subdomains. The main idea of all articles is set Domain property to something like ".mydomain.com". I've created two domains on local IIS server - test1.local.boo and test2.local.boo. They works great and visible with browser. I have the following code: Site test1 - Writes cookie: HttpCookie myCookie = new HttpCookie("TestCookie"); myCookie.Domain = ".local.boo"; myCookie["msg"] = "Welcome from Cookie"; Response.Cookies.Add(myCookie); Site test2 - Reads cookie: HttpCookie cookie = Request.Cookies["TestCookie"]; if (cookie != null) { Response.Write(cookie["msg"]); } else { Response.Write("FAILED"); } This code always shows FAILED message. So it means that second site can't read cookie from the same subdomain. Where is my mistake??

• How to add model entity property in WCF RIA service

  I'm developing silverlight app with WCF Ria service. I'm using MS SQL database and Entity Framework as ORM framework (Database first method). Model with domain service are in separate project - App1.Data. Silverlight and generated model proxy classes are in App1 project. I want to add property to model entity class EntityClass to get this property on client side. So I did it that way - added this class to project App1.Data: public partial class EntityClass { [DataMember] public List<EntityClass2> PropertyName {get; set;} } After rebuilding EntityClass proxy on client side doesn't have this new property. Where is my mistake?

• "Send it to a friend" button on a webpage

  Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

• Why repeat database constraints in models?

  In a CakePHP application, for unique constraints that are accounted for in the database, what is the benefit of having the same validation checks in the model? I understand the benefit of having JS validation, but I believe this model validation makes an extra trip to the DB. I am 100% sure that certain validations are made in the DB so the model validation would simply be redundant. The only benefit I see is the app recognizing the mistake and adjusting the view for the user accordingly (repopulating the fields and showing error message on the appropriate field; bettering the ux) but this could be achieved if there was a constraint naming convention and so the app could understand what the problem was with the save (existing method to do this now?)

• Tkinter mouse event initially triggered

  I'm currently learning Tkinter and I cannot find a solution for my problem here nor outside Stackoverflow. In a nutshell, all events that I bind to my widgets are triggered initialy and don't respond to my actions. • MySQL - Counting rows in preparation for greatest-n-per-group not working?

  Referring to SO and other sites have given me examples of how to use MySQL to create a 'greatest-n-per-group' query. My variant on this would be to have a query that returns the first 3 rows of each category. As the basis for this I need to sort my data into a usable sequence and that is where my problems start. Running just the sequence query with row numbering shows that changes in category are mostly ignored. I should have 35 categories returning rows but only 5 do so. My query: set @c:=0; set @a:=0; SELECT IF(@c = tdg, @a:=@a+1, @a:=1) AS rownum, (@c:=tdg) , julian_day, sequence, complete, year, tdg FROM tsd WHERE complete = 0 order by tdg, year, julian_day, sequence Do I have a syntax mistake with this query?

  Does the .NET String.Format method allow placement of a string at a fixed position within a fixed length string. " String Goes Here" " String Goes Here " "String Goes Here " How is this done using .NET? Edit - I have tried Format/PadLeft/PadRight to death. They do not work. I don't know why. I ended up writing my own function to do this. Edit - I made a mistake and used a colon instead of a comma in the format specifier. Should be "{0,20}". • Android USB driver v2 vs v3? V3 doesnt see moto droid in device chooser?!?

  I can see my adp2 in ddms device chooser, but cant see Dave's droid. (used to be able to before updating to usb v3!). Can some smart person diff the inf files from usb v2 and v3 and see if they dropped the droid by mistake when they added the nexus? I can't think of any other reason why I cant see the droid in the device chooser. USB debug turned on, same debuggable app that runs on the 1.6 adp2. I'd like to be able to see the 2.1 device even if it has a red x by it!

• C program giving incorrect output for simple math!

  (all are declared as ints, none are initialized to anything beforehand. I have included math.h and am compiling with -lm) cachesize = atoi(argv[1]); blocksize = atoi(argv[3]); setnumber = (cachesize/blocksize); printf("setnumber: %d\n", setnumber); setbits = (log(setnumber))/(log(2)); printf("sbits: %d\n", setbits); when given cachesize as 1024 and blocksize as 16 the output is as follows: setnumber: 64 sbits: 5 but log(64)/log(2) = 6 ! It works correctly when given cachesize 512 and blocksize 32. I can't seem to win. I'm really hoping that it's a stupid mistake on my part, and I'd be grateful if anyone could point out what it is! Thank you! PS: I posted this in Yahoo Answers first but that was probably silly. Won't be doing that again.

  Im trying to create a xml file from a POJO , in which i have a property that stores urls, I have been using the below method to replace all & in the url String to make the xml conform to standards and pass it as an html char entity but the string does not change. public static String forHrefAmpersand(String aURL){ return aURL.replaceAll("&", "&"); } the value might be www.abc.com/controller?a=1&next=showResults I have even tried changing the above method to use "/" as i read replaceAll uses regular expression but replaceAll is not working as exprected, Can anyone tell me what is the mistake im doing ? • Having trouble applying style to SVG using JavaScript upon object creation

  Hi, I have a function which creates an SVG text object using JavaScript. As soon as the object is created, I want it to have the style attribute which in CSS would be text-anchor: left. Currently, it doesn't work. I have tried many variations, and I also read that when using styles in JavaScript you must remove any '-' dashes and format the attribute name in camel casing (is this true?). • How to pass parameters with spaces via cstdlib system

  Hi, I have this windows console app which takes a file, do some calculations, and then writes the output to a specified file. The input is specified in "app.exe -input fullfilename" format. I need to call this application from my C++ program, but I have a problem with spaces in paths to files. When I call the app directly from cmd.exe by typing (without specifying output file for clarity) "c:\first path\app.exe" -input "c:\second path\input.file" everything works as expected. But, when I try using cstdlib std::system() function, i.e. std::system(" \"c:\\first path\\app.exe\" -input \"c:\\second path\\input.file\" "); the console prints out that c:\first is not any valid command. It's probably common mistake and has simple solution, but I have been unable to find any. Thx for any help.
