Setting a mapped drive in Virtual hosts causes apache to not start

I´m trying to set a virtual host on my windows 7 machine. The folder I want to point to is located on a centOS machine and the folder path is Z:\Websites\Online\MyClient\Site. But something strange happens when I set the document root like this: DocumentRoot "Z:\Websites\Online\MyClient\Site" Apache do not restarts after that. When I take a look at the log, there is an error pointing to that line, where I added the path to the folder: Syntax error on line 48 of C:/Program Files/Zend/Apache2/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf: DocumentRoot must be a directory. There must be a way to make it work like this, by setting an Apache Installation on a machine and pointing it to a folder located on another computer, right? My hosts file is set like this: 172.17.10.1\Data\Websites\Online\MyClient\Site MyClient.local ANY HELP would be VERY appreciated.

Is this too much to ask for a game programming and developing enthusiast? Am I doing this wrong?

I have been a computer-fanatic for almost a decade now. I've always loved and wondered how computers work, even from the purest, lowest hardware level to the very smallest pixel on the screen, and all the software around that. That seems to be my problem though ... as I try to write code (I'm pretty fluent at C++) I always sit there enormous amounts of time in front of a text-editor wondering how every line, statement, datum, function, etc. will correspond to every Assembly and machine instruction performed to do absolutely everything necessary for the kernel to allocate memory to run my compiled program, and all of the other hardware being used as well. For example ... I would write cout << "Before memory changed" << endl; and run the debugger to get the Assembly for this, and then try and reverse disassemble the Assembly to machine code based on my ISA, and then research every .dll, library file, linked library, linking process, linker source code of the program, the make file, the kernel I'm using's steps of processing this compilation, the hardware's part aside from the processor (e.g. video card, sound card, chipset, cache latency, byte-sized registers, calling convention use, DDR3 RAM and disk drive, filesystem functioning and so many other things). Am I going about programming wrong? I mean I feel I should know everything that goes on underneath English syntax on a computer program. But the problem is that the more I research every little thing the less I actually accomplish at all. I can never finish anything because of this mentality, yet I feel compelled to know everything... what should I do?

Sharing a symlinked (`mklink /d`) directory via SMB?

I have a Windows 7 amd64 box where one directory is shared: local path is d:\drop\ remote path is \\aloism\drop from SMB point of view, Everyone has Read and Write permission ACLs for the folder are set so that all authenticated users have read and write permissions:NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users:(OI)(CI)C (which is inherited to all levels below) Now I create a symbolic link within the structure of the directory: D:\drop>mklink /d tools2 tools symbolic link created for tools2 <<===>> tools The problem is that I can't access this new directory from any of the remote machines (a Windows 7 box and a Windows XP box—both behave the same way): C:\>dir \\aloism\drop\tools2\ Volume in drive \\aloism\drop is droot Volume Serial Number is FA73-1897 Directory of \\aloism\drop\tools2 File Not Found How can I make it work? Possibly also for files?

The bat has >>%vbs% echo oShellLink.IconLocation = "%1, 0"to produce oShellLink.IconLocation = ""C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.exe", 0"` where %1 is a quoted path However, unless I remove the quotes from path like here: oShellLink.IconLocation = "C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.exe, 0" I get the titular error. What do you suggest? (Note that %1 is always supplied with quotes) Also, I'm not very familiar with vbscript, why does it require no quotes next to each other? ... Still not clear why vbscript can't interpret this assignment, but found a fix: %~1 - Expands %1 and removes any surrounding quotation marks ("").

Apache RewriteRule ignoring RewriteCond?

So I have an Apache running on OSX Server 10.4 (don't ask) with multiple sites. In 0002_[example.com].conf, I have this bit of code: <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents/secret/"> RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^137\.250\. RewriteRule .* /messages/secret.html </Directory> However, in this configuration, the RewriteCond always seems to evaluate to false, since the secret directory gets shown even if the client's address does not begin with 137.250. If I change the config to this <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents/secret/"> RewriteEngine On RewriteRule .* /messages/secret.html RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} !^137\.250\. </Directory> the condition either does not get evaluated at all or always evaluates to true. Either way, all clients get blocked. What am I doing wrong?

Smart Auto-completion in SVN (and other programs!)

When I type "svn add path/to/somefile..." and tab to autocomplete, the system should ONLY complete files/directories that are NOT under currently under SVN control. Likewise, when I commit, remove or resolve files, the tab completion should only complete files that are relevant to what I'm doing. This is especially important in SVN where I can waste thousands of keystrokes typing long path and file names, but it of applies to other programs. I know bash has a bash_completion file that can be used to programatically alter this behaviour but I've not found a decent example of SVN completion which actually completes file names rather than SVN command names. My question is: Does anyone have such a setup? Does anyone use a different shell or tool that does something similar? Has anyone given this any thought?

Songbird very slow, freezes

I've read on few places that Songbird is no good with more than some thousands of library items because it starts getting quite slow. Well, in my case (which is a clean install) I've imported 17k items (which I know is not that much) and instead of becoming just too slow it frequently gets to not responding for several minutes until getting back to its senses again. That's for whichever random operation such as deleting 1 item from library. I've also read on few more places that gives very little hope on fixing this issue, but I wonder... Is there any way to tweak it and make it work as fast as expected? Am I missing something or is the software just not intended for libraries with more than 10 thousand thingies?

Does (should?) changing the URI scheme name change the semantics?

If we take: http://example.com/foo is it fair to say that: ftp://example.com/foo .. points to the same resource, just using a different mechanism for resolving it (and of course possibly a different representation, but perhaps not)? This came to light in a discussion we were having surrounding some internal tooling with Git. We have to process some Git repositories, and they come to use as "git@{authority}/{path}" , however the library we're using to interface with them doesn't support the git protocol. I suggested that we should make the service robust in of that it tries to use HTTP or SSH, in essence, discovering what protocols/schemes are supported for resolving the repository at {path} under each {authority}. This was met with some criticism: "We don't know if that's the same repository". My response was: "It had better be!" Looking at RFC 3986, I see this excerpt: URI "resolution" is the process of determining an access mechanism and the appropriate parameters necessary to dereference a URI; this resolution may require several iterations. To use that access mechanism to perform an action on the URI's resource is to "dereference" the URI. Which makes me think that the resolution process is permitted to try different protocols, because: Although many URI schemes are named after protocols, this does not imply that use of these URIs will result in access to the resource via the named protocol. The only concern I have, I guess, is that I only see reference to the notion of changing protocols when it comes to traversing relationships: it is possible for a single set of hypertext documents to be simultaneously accessible and traversable via each of the "file", "http", and "ftp" schemes if the documents refer to each other with relative references. I'm inclined to think I'm wrong in my initial beliefs, because the Normalization and Comparison section of said RFC doesn't mention any way of treating two URIs as equivalent if they use different schemes. It seems like schemes named/based on IP protocols ought to have this notion, at least?

trouble installing mercurial 1.5 on os x 10.5.8 (without using MacPorts)

i'm having trouble installing mercurial 1.5 (build 20100307) from the prebuilt installer on os x 10.5.8. the installer is halting telling me that i need to install python 2.6 to continue. i've installed the latest version of python (2.6.5) twice now but its not helping. which python is reporting /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python, but i can see that i also have 2.3 and 2.5 in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions directory, which i suspect is being picked up by the installer ahead of the 2.6 install. if possible i'd like to install mercurial and python without having to resort to MacPorts, but if that is the only option then so be it :)

A unique identifier for a Domain

I asked a question over on StackOverflow and was directed to ask a related one here to see if I could get any additional input. Basically, I am looking to have my application aware of what domain it's running under, if any at all. (I want to expose certain debugging facilities only in house, and due to our deployment model it isn't possible to have a different build.) Since I am over paranoid, I didn't want to just rely on the domain name to ensure we are in house. As such I noted the DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms675912(v=vs.85).aspx ) returned from DsGetDcName (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms675983(v=vs.85).aspx) has a GUID associated with it, however I can find little if any information on it. I am assuming this GUID is generated at the time the first DC in a domain is created, and that it would live on for the life of the domain. Does anyone else have any inner knowledge and would be kind enough to confirm or deny my assumptions?

Using (embedding?) wireshark in a C application for sniffing

I'm writing a C/C++ application which needs (among other things) to sniff packets and save the output in a file. This file will be read and processed by wireshark after a few days, using a LUA script to do some other stuff. My question is for the sniffing part which must be provided by my application. I can see two ways to do this: 1) Fork the wireshark process in background (of course using the command line version) 2) Using wireshark as library: no forking but include stuff like "wireshark.h" and link against libwireshark.so, thus using function calls to do the sniffing. So far I haven't found any documentation about #2 and it seems that #1 is the "right way" to embed sniffing capabilities in my code. Do you think I'm doing he right thing? Does wireshark allow embedding as a library?

iTunes for Ubuntu Studio

I have finally gotten my old Mac HDD sorted out, and now I would like to know if anybody has either: a) a way to run iTunes without wine, as it did not work out well for me the last time I tried it, or b) any other media player that will sync with an iPod and, more importantly, use the same file system. When my Mac died, I started to get into open source. I bought a MacBook Air, only out of necessity. For almost two years now, I have not once backed up or synced my iPod. I am getting nervous that it may give up on it's life soon and would like to find a solution. I don't have enough room on my Air, and it would just erase my iPod anyway... Another thing that I am having trouble with is the way iTunes arranged the music. Now, it is arranged all by artist, then album, the song and I would like to have a media library, but somewhere around 400GB of music is a lot to sift through (I have attempted in the past). Thus I am looking for something that will use the same library format. A side note: As I was writing this I started to wonder; Is a Hackintosh in order here? If somebody will give me instructions on how to install MacOSX for free (maybe Mavericks?) in a dual boot with Ubuntu, I will be ever grateful. :) Thanks, soundblastdj

Android save Checkbox State in ListView with Cursor Adapter

I cant find a way to save the checkbox state when using a Cursor adapter. Everything else works fine but if i click on a checkbox it is repeated when it is recycled. Ive seen examples using array adapters but because of my lack of experience im finding it hard to translate it into using a cursor adapter. Could someone give me an example of how to go about it. Using IDataErrorInfo i could successfully bind the field to a class property and with the help of styles display meaningful information about the error to users.About the submit button i use the MultiDataTrigger with conditions (Based on a post here on stackoverflow).All went well. Now i need to do the same for the passwordbox and apparently it's not as straight forward.I found on wpftutorial an article and gave it a try but for some reason it wasn't working. i've tried another one from functionalfun. Creating a multi-tenant application using PostgreSQL's schemas and Rails

Stuff I've already figured out I'm learning how to create a multi-tenant application in Rails that serves data from different schemas based on what domain or subdomain is used to view the application. I already have a few concerns answered: How can you get subdomain-fu to work with domains as well? Here's someone that asked the same question which leads you to this blog. What database, and how will it be structured? Here's an excellent talk by Guy Naor, and good question about PostgreSQL and schemas. I already know my schemas will all have the same structure. They will differ in the data they hold. So, how can you run migrations for all schemas? Here's an answer. Those three points cover a lot of the general stuff I need to know. However, in the next steps I seem to have many ways of implementing things. I'm hoping that there's a better, easier way. Finally, to my question When a new user signs up, I can easily create the schema. However, what would be the best and easiest way to load the structure that the rest of the schemas already have? Here are some questions/scenarios that might give you a better idea. Should I pass it on to a shell script that dumps the public schema into a temporary one, and imports it back to my main database (pretty much like what Guy Naor says in his video)? Here's a quick summary/script I got from the helpful #postgres on freenode. While this will probably work, I'm gonna have to do a lot of stuff outside of Rails, which makes me a bit uncomfortable.. which also brings me to the next question. Is there a way to do this straight from Ruby on Rails? Like create a PostgreSQL schema, then just load the Rails database schema (schema.rb - I know, it's confusing) into that PostgreSQL schema. Is there a gem/plugin that has these things already? Methods like "create_pg_schema_and_load_rails_schema(the_new_schema_name)". If there's none, I'll probably work at making one, but I'm doubtful about how well tested it'll be with all the moving parts (especially if I end up using a shell script to create and manage new PostgreSQL schemas). WPF Storyboard flicker issue

With the code below, the control flickers whenever the image is changed for MouseOver/MousePressed? I am using Storyboard and Double animation.The image display is very smooth with WPF Triggers but not with Storyboard. cmake doesn't work in windows XP

Drawing a WPF UserControl with DataBinding to an Image

Hey Everyone, So I'm trying to use a WPF User Control to generate a ton of images from a dataset where each item in the dataset would produce an image... I'm hoping I can set it up in such a way that I can use WPF databinding, and for each item in the dataset, create an instance of my user control, set the dependency property that corresponds to my data item, and then draw the user control to an image, but I'm having problems getting it all working (not sure whether databinding or drawing to the image is my problem) Sorry for the massive code dump, but I've been trying to get this working for a couple of hours now, and WPF just doesn't like me (have to learn at some point though...) And I have confirmed using the debugger that my Booking objects are being filled with the proper data... EDIT 2: Did something I should have done a long time ago, set a background on my canvas, but that didn't change the output image at all, so my problem is most definitely somehow to do with my drawing code (although there may be something wrong with my databinding too)

403 error after adding javascript to masterpage for sharepoint.

I am attempting to add highslide-with-html.js from http://highslide.com/ to my masterpage. I am receiving a 403 forbidden error when I use the provided masterpage. I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033. Test javascript files such as pirate.js which consists solely of alert("Arr!"); have loaded from the same directory. I have provided the code for the masterpage. Hi, I'm a complete newbie to Flex, so apologies for my dumbness. I've searched for an answer but haven't found anything that seems to be doing the trick. What I'm trying to do: port this example http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/articles/flex_air_codebase_print.html to Flash Builder 4. All seems to be fine but for one thing. How can I best share Ant targets between projects?

Is there a well-established way to share Ant targets between projects? I have a solution currently, but it's a bit inelegant. Here's what I'm doing so far. I've got a file called ivy-tasks.xml hosted on a server on our network. This file contains, among other targets, boilerplate tasks for managing project dependencies with Ivy. Have my build.xml depend on checking out a project from source control - this will make the build have more XML at the top-level just to access the file. What I do with this file in my projects' build.xmls is along the lines of: <property name="download.dir" location="download"/> <mkdir dir="${download.dir}"/> <echo message="Downloading import files to ${download.dir}"/> <get src="http://myserver/ivy/ivy-tasks.xml" dest="${download.dir}/ivy-tasks.xml" usetimestamp="true"/> <import file="${download.dir}/ivy-tasks.xml"/> The "dirty" part about this is that I have to do the above steps outside of a target, because the import task must be at the top-level. Plus, I still have to include this XML in all of the build.xml files that need it (i.e. there's still some amount of duplication). On top of that, there might be additional situations where I might have common (non-Ivy) tasks that I'd like imported. If I were to provide these tasks using Ivy's dependency management I'd still have problems, since by the time I'd have resolved the dependencies I would have to be inside of a target in my build.xml, and unable to import (due to the constraint mentioned above). Is there a better solution for what I'm trying to accomplish?

How can I bind the nested viewmodels to properties of a control

I used Microsoft's Chart Control of the WPF toolkit to write my own chart control. I blogged about it here. My Chart control stacks the yaxes in the chart on top of each other. As you can read in the article this all works quite well. Now I want to create a viewmodel that controls the data and axes in the chart. So far I'm able to add axes to the chart and show them in the chart. But I have a problem when I try to add the lineseries because it has one DependentAxis and one InDependentAxis property. I don't know how to assign the proper xAxis and yAxis controls to it. Below you see part of the LineSeriesViewModel. It has a nested XAxisViewModel and YAxisViewModel property. public class LineSeriesViewModel : ViewModelBase, IChartComponent { XAxisViewModel _xAxis; public XAxisViewModel XAxis { get { return _xAxis; } set { _xAxis = value; RaisePropertyChanged(() => XAxis); } } //The YAxis Property look the same } The viewmodels all have their own datatemplate. How is WPF Data Binding using Object Data Source in Visual Studio 2010 done?

This is probably mostly a question about how to use the VS 2010 IDE tools in a way the Microsofties didn't specifically intend. But since this is something I immediately tried without success. The question is: Why didn't this work? What will work instead? If I put bindings in a DataTemplate, it works. Blend, with its sample data stuff, implied that this should work, but it doesn't. I know I'm missing something pretty fundamental here; what is it?
