• TDD - testing business rules/validation in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi, I am using the sharp architecture so I can easily use mocks etc. in my unit tests and/or during TDD. I have quite complicated business rules and would like to test them at the controller level. I am just wondering how other people do this? For me validation tests business rules at three levels: (1) Property level (e.g. property is required) (2) Intra property level (e.g. start date < end date) (3) Persistence level (e.g. name is unique, parent cannot be child of child) My validation framework also assigns errors to properties. I am just wondering what other people do? Do you write a test for each business rule and check whether the correct error message is assigned to the correct property (i.e. looking at the ASP.MVC ModelState)? I hope my question makes sense. • UIImagePickerController image editing not working

  I am having a problem with implementing UIImagePickerController. When the controller loads, it displays modally, and allows the user to select the image. Good so far. Yet, then when it moves to the editing phase, it often displays somewhat corrupted view (the image cropping box is halfway off the top of the screen) and their is no image. It does not crash, but all UI interaction is blocked. The strange part is that this only happens when I compile with Release settings. Under debug compile settings, the image editing works fine! I have tried checking for memory warnings during this time, but none are showing up. Here is the code calling the image picker controller for reference. When I use the camera (the first method), it always works fine. It is just when selecting images from the Library (called from the second method below) does it fail as described above. And again, only on release build, and with various different types of images. - (IBAction) showCameraController:(id)sender { self.imagePicker =[[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; self.imagePicker.sourceType=UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; self.imagePicker.delegate=self; self.imagePicker.allowsEditing=YES; [self presentModalViewController:self.imagePicker animated:YES]; } - (IBAction) showPictureAlbumController:(id)sender { self.imagePicker =[[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; self.imagePicker.sourceType=UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary; self.imagePicker.delegate=self; self.imagePicker.allowsEditing=YES; [self presentModalViewController:self.imagePicker animated:YES]; } The delegate methods are properly implemented, yet, during the problem I am describing, the controller is not yet calling those methods. It is failing when displaying the editing screen before the user is able to select cancel or save. It is just locking up with no crash. Please help!

  Hello, I'm writing an application in Delphi (have two over revisions of it written in both C# and Visual Basic, also). • Twitter-OAuth update_profile_*_image methods problem [EpiTwitter]

  People, I have been struggling over the two methods - Update Profile Image and Update Background Image I am using EpiTwitter library. I am uploading GIFs, Twitter returns the expected result for update_profile_background_image but returns 401 for update_profile_image , but the image is not changed. • How to avoid XCode framework weak-linking problems?

  Hi, I'm building an application that takes advantage of Mac OS X 10.6-only technologies, but without giving up backwards compatibility to 10.5 Leopard. The way I do this is by setting the 10.6 SDK as the base SDK, weak-linking all frameworks and setting the deployment target to 10.5 as described in: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPFrameworks/Concepts/WeakLinking.html This works fine; before making a call that is Snow Leopard-only I need to check that the selector or indeed the class actually exist. Or I can just check the OS version before making the call. The problem is that this is incredibly fragile. If I make a single call that is 10.6 only I blow Leopard-compatibility. So using even the normal code code completion feature can be dangerous. My question: is there any way of checking which calls are not defined on 10.5 before doing a release build? Some kind of static analysis, or even just a trick (a target set the other SDK?) would do. I obviously should test on a Leopard machine before releasing anything, but even so I can't possibly go through all paths of the program before every release. Any advice would be appreciated. • Synchronizing an ERWin model with a Visual Studio 2008 GDR 2/2010 db project

  I am looking for options to get our vast collection of DB objects across many DBs into source control (TFS 2010). Once we succeed here, we will work toward generating our alter scripts for a particular DB change via TFS build. The problem is, our data architecture group is responsible for maintaining the DB objects (excluding SPs), and they work within a model centric process, via ERWin. What this means, is that they maintain the DBs via ERWin models, and generate alters from them that are used to release changes. In order to achieve our goal of getting the DB objects (not just the ERWin models) into TFS, I believe the best option is to do this via Visual Studio DB projects. From what I can tell, there is very little urgency for CA to continue supporting an integration between ERWin and Visual Studio, that no longer works as of Visual Studio 2008 DB Ed. GDR. If I have been mislead in this regard, please feel free to set me straight. One potential solution is to: Perform changes in the ERWin model. Take the alter script generated from ERWin, and import the script into the appropriate Visual Studio DB project, updating the objects in the in the DB project Check the changed objects in the DB project into TFS. TFS Build executes to generate the alter scripts that will be used to push the changes through our release process. My question is, is this solution viable, or are there any other options?

• Using inotify-tools and ruby to push uploads to Cloud Files

  Hi Guys, I wrote a few scripts to monitor an uploads directory for changes, then capture the file uploaded/changed and push it to cloud files using a ruby script. This all works well 95% of the time, the only exception is that occasionally, ruby fails with a 'file does not exist' exception. I am assuming that the ruby 'push' script is being called before the file is 100% in its new location, so the script is being called a little prematurely. I tried adding a little function to my script to check if the file exists, if it doesn't, sleep 5 then try again, but this seems to snowball and eventually dies.   Hi Guys, please help µe as I am new into accessing an unmanaged DLL from C#.. I have a large unmanaged DLL in C++ and I am trying to access the DLL's classes and functions from a C# Web Service. I have seen many examples how to use DLLImport, but for some reason I am stuck with my very first wrapper method spending many hours with no luck.. What should I do to return an object in my 'Marshaled' [DllImport..] function? • iPhone SDK - UITabBarConroller and custom design

  Hi I am having a problem with my tab bars at the bottom of the screen. The designer has decided it should be one colour (not black) when inactive and another colour when active. I have worked out how to replace the main colour of the tabbar by subclassing UITabBarController and doing this:- - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0, self.view.bounds.size.width, self.view.bounds.size.height); UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; //get percentage values from digitalcolour meter and enter as decimals v.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:.0 green:.706 blue:.863 alpha:1]; [tabBar1 insertSubview:v atIndex:0]; [v release]; } I just can't see how to make the active tabbar be a separate colour when it is selected. I have tried subclassing UITabBarItem but there doesn't seem to be any property for me to set to change the background colour of the tab. They also want to have the icons on the tab bar not be blue and grey and I can't figure out how to do that. In the ViewController for one tab bar item I have put this into viewdidload:- myTabBarItem *tabItem = [[myTabBarItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"listOOO" image:[UIImage imageNamed:@"starcopy.png"] tag:1]; tabItem.customHighlightedImage=[UIImage imageNamed:@"starcopy.png"]; self.tabBarItem=tabItem; [tabItem release]; tabItem=nil; and in my subclass of UITabBarItem I have put this:- -(UIImage *) selectedImage{ return self.customHighlightedImage; } Only I don't see the icon at all. If I put this into the viewDidLoad of my subclass of UITabBarController:- for (UITabBarItem *item in tabBar1.items){ item.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"starcopy.png"]; } Then all my tab bars have the icon but they are blue (and grey when inactive) how would I get them not to become blue but stay their original colour?   Hey all i am in need of some helpful tips/advice on how to go about my problem. I have a database that houses a "signup" table. The date for this table is formated as such: 2010-04-03 00:00:00 Now suppose i have 10 records in this database: 2010-04-03 00:00:00 2010-01-01 00:00:00 2010-06-22 00:00:00 2010-02-08 00:00:00 2010-02-05 00:00:00 2010-03-08 00:00:00 2010-09-29 00:00:00 2010-11-16 00:00:00 2010-04-09 00:00:00 2010-05-21 00:00:00 And i wanted to get each months total registers... so following the example above: Jan = 1 Feb = 2 Mar = 1 Apr = 2 May = 1 Jun = 1 Jul = 0 Aug = 0 Sep = 1 Oct = 0 Nov = 1 Dec = 0 Now how can i use a query to do that but not have to use a query like: WHERE left(date, 7) = '2010-01' and keep doing that 12 times? I would like it to be a single query call and just have it place the months visits into a array like so: do until EOF theMonthArray[0] = "total for jan" theMonthArray[1] = "total for feb" theMonthArray[2] = "total for mar" theMonthArray[3] = "total for apr" ...etc loop I just can not think of a way to do that other than the example i posted with the 12 query called-one for each month. This is my query as of right now. Again, this only populates for one month where i am trying to populate all 12 months all at once. SELECT count(idNumber) as numVisits, theAccount, signUpDate, theActive from userinfo WHERE theActive = 'YES' AND idNumber = '0203' AND theAccount = 'SUB' AND left(signUpDate, 7) = '2010-04' GROUP BY idNumber ORDER BY numVisits; The example query above outputs this: numVisits | theAccount | signUpDate | theActive 2 SUB 2010-04-16 00:00:00 YES Which is correct because i have 2 records within the month of April. But again, i am trying to do all 12 months at one time (in a single query) so i do not tax the database server as much when compared to doing 12 different query's...   At various points during my application's workflow, I need so show a view. That view is quite memory intensive, so I want it to be deallocated when it gets discarded by the user. So, I wrote the following code: - (MyView *)myView { if (myView != nil) return myView; myView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; // allocate memory if necessary. // further init here return myView; } - (void)discardView { [myView discard]; // the discard methods puts the view offscreen. [myView release]; // free memory! } - (void)showView { view = [self myView]; // more code that puts the view onscreen. } Unfortunately, this methods only works the first time. Subsequent requests to put the view onscreen result in "message sent to deallocated instance" errors. Apparently, a deallocated instance isn't the same thing as nil. I thought about putting an additional line after [myView release] that reads myView = nil. However, that could result in errors (any calls to myView after that line would probably yield errors). So, how can I solve this problem?

  I've been working on developing a middle man application of sorts, which uploads text to a CMS backend using HTTP post requests for a series of dates (usually 7 at a time). I am using HttpWebRequest to accomplish this. It seems to work fine for the first date, but when it starts the second date I get the System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. I've tried overloading the GetWebReuqest but that doesn't make sense because I don't make any use of that function.   I am trying to create a basic navigation application with a header and detail screen. My problem is the detail screen is not working. The code below is for the opening the detail view and placing it on the nav stack. My problem is the detail screen is not being pushed and I'm not sure why? • Stop all sounds permanently in AS3

  Hi, I have a main swf which has sound on/off buttons. It has many SWF's which are loaded into different placeholders at different time. All of them have different sounds in them. In addition to that there is a music loop going on in the background. Now, this perticular swf lets call it Father will be placed in some swf later on. What I'm trying to do right now is when the sound off button is pressed turn off all the sounds permanently so the child swf's and their sounds stop too. I have found a way in AS2 : global = new Sound( ) //no movie clip target path. and add the following code to your off button. on(release){ global.setVolume(0); //mutes all sound } and for on button on(release){ global.setVolume(100); //un mutes all sound } which ofcourse does not work for AS3. So how can I stop all sounds permanently in AS3? Secondly what if I have one sound (my background loop) which I want to keep going on. Would be a lot of help, been searching for a while now without a appropriate answer.

• Public key of Android project and keystore created in Eclipse?

  I created an Android project using Eclipse (under Windows FWIW) and let Eclipse create the keypair during the Export Android Application process. I successfully used Eclipse to make a signed release build that is now on the Market. Now I want to now use ProGuard, which I believe means using Ant instead of Eclipse to build. It was a pain, but Ant building works in both debug and release, until it tries to sign the APK. I get: [signjar] jarsigner: Certificate chain not found for: redacted. redacted must reference a valid KeyStore key entry containing a private key and corresponding public key certificate chain. keytool -list -keystore redacted gives me: Keystore type: JKS Keystore provider: SUN Your keystore contains 1 entry redacted, Jan 16, 2011, PrivateKeyEntry, Certificate fingerprint (MD5): BD:0F:70:C1:39:F5:FE:5B:BC:CD:89:0B:C8:66:95:E0 Which brings me to the actual question: where is my public key? I have some sort of public key on my Android Market profile, but is that the pair for my private key? If so, how do I store that in the keystore so that jarsigner will work?

  I've written an RSS feed parser in Java (running on Android) and it parses some feeds perfectly, and others not at all.   I'm using jQuery Countdown plugin to implement a Countdown and call a webservice when timer expires. • Memory leak with NSData

  I'm having a leak with this code without being able to find where it's coming from. This function get called within an autorelease pool. I release the IplImage* image argument. When I run the ObjAlloc tool, it tells me that "NSData* data" is leaking. If I try to manually release the UIImage returned by this function, I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error, probably because this UIImage is autoreleased. I'm a bit confused, any hint would be appreciated. • AVAudioPlayer making noise when playing multiple sounds at the same time

  I am having an issue where AVAudioPlayer is introducing noise into playback ONLY when I play multiple sound files at the same time. If I play them each individually, they all sound perfect. But, if I play sound clip B while sound clip A is still playing, the speakers start crackling like there is noise. I have tried both m4a files AND caf files and both make the same noise, so it has to be something with how I am implementing this method or a quirk with AVAudioPlayer.
