• Jeditable with jQuery UI Datepicker

  I need to have a click to edit element on a page, that will in turn invoke an instance of the jQuery UI Datepicker. Currently, I'm using JEditable to provide the in place editing, which is working fine. However, I have a date control input that I would like to have appear as a calendar, which is where the fun starts. I've found a Comment in the this blog by Calle Kabo (the page is a little mashed unfortunately) that details a way to do this: $.editable.addInputType("datepicker", { element: function(settings, original) { var input = $("<input type=\"text\" name=\"value\" />"); $(this).append(input); return(input); }, plugin: function(settings, original) { var form = this; $("input", this).filter(":text").datepicker({ onSelect: function(dateText) { $(this).hide(); $(form).trigger("submit"); } }); } }); However, I can't get the above to work - no errors, but no effect either. I've tried placing it within the jQuery document ready function and also outside of it - no joy. My UI Datepicker class is date-picker and my Jeditable class is ajaxedit, I'm sure the above inaction is due to the need to reference them somehow in the code, but I don't know how. Also, the Jeditable control is one of many element ids, if that has a bearing. Any ideas from those more in the know?

• Force full garbage collection when memory occupation goes beyond a certain threshold

  I have a server application that, in rare occasions, can allocate large chunks of memory. It's not a memory leak, as these chunks can be claimed back by the garbage collector by executing a full garbage collection. Normal garbage collection frees amounts of memory that are too small: it is not adequate in this context. The garbage collector executes these full GCs when it deems appropriate, namely when the memory footprint of the application nears the allotted maximum specified with -Xmx. That would be ok, if it wasn't for the fact that these problematic memory allocations come in bursts, and can cause OutOfMemoryErrors due to the fact that the jvm is not able to perform a GC quickly enough to free the required memory. If I manually call System.gc() beforehand, I can prevent this situation. Anyway, I'd prefer not having to monitor my jvm's memory allocation myself (or insert memory management into my application's logic); it would be nice if there was a way to run the virtual machine with a memory threshold, over which full GCs would be executed automatically, in order to release very early the memory I'm going to need. Long story short: I need a way (a command line option?) to configure the jvm in order to release early a good amount of memory (i.e. perform a full GC) when memory occupation reaches a certain threshold, I don't care if this slows my application down every once in a while. All I've found till now are ways to modify the size of the generations, but that's not what I need (at least not directly). I'd appreciate your suggestions, Silvio P.S. I'm working on a way to avoid large allocations, but it could require a long time and meanwhile my app needs a little stability

• vlad the deployer: why do I need a scm folder?

  I'm learning to use vlad the deployer and I've got a question. Since I'm still learning I don't know what is pertinent to the question and what isn't, so please bear with me if I'm a little verbose. I've got 2 environments for a new application (test and production) besides my development machine. I've figured out this way to do the initial setup in my vlad.rake: namespace :test task :set set :domain, 'test.myserver.com' end end namespace :production task :set set :domain, 'www.myserver.com' end end This way I can have environment-specific stuff inside the namespaces, and still have shared tasks. For example, this would be the initial setup for test: rake vlad:test:set vlad:setup vlad:update This creates the following folders on my test server: releases/ scm/ shared/ current -> symlink to last release (inside the releases folder) My question is: what's the point of the scm folder? Every time I do vlad:update, the following happens: svn checkout on the scm/ folder above svn export on the /releases/{date} folder update current symlink So scm is a copy of my repository... but then there's an "export" copy of the repository on /releases/{date}. And that is the one used by the application... scm doesn't seem to be used by anyone? Wouldn't I be just fine without the scm folder?

  Hi, I am new to iPhone programming and I can't understand why the MKAnnotationView is not showing the title's of my annotation's. • How to convert many-to-one XML data to DataSet?

  I have an XML document that has a collection of objects. Each object has a key/value pair of label and value. I am trying to convert this into a DataSet, but when I do ds.ReadXml(xmlFile), then it creates two columns: label and value. • Why does my Delphi program's memory continue to grow?

  I am using Delphi 2009 which has the FastMM4 memory manager built into it. My program reads in and processes a large dataset. All memory is freed correctly whenever I clear the dataset or exit the program. It has no memory leaks at all. Using the CurrentMemoryUsage routine given in spenwarr's answer to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/437683/how-to-get-the-memory-used-by-a-delphi-program, I have displayed the memory used by FastMM4 during processing. What seems to be happening is that memory is use is growing after every process and release cycle. e.g.: 1,456 KB used after starting my program with no dataset. 218,455 KB used after loading a large dataset. 71,994 KB after clearing the dataset completely. If I exit at this point (or any point in my example), no memory leaks are reported. 271,905 KB used after loading the same dataset again. 125,443 KB after clearing the dataset completely. 325,519 KB used after loading the same dataset again. 179,059 KB after clearing the dataset completely. 378,752 KB used after loading the same dataset again. It seems that my program's memory use is growing by about 53,400 KB upon each load/clear cycle. Task Manager confirms that this is actually happening. I have heard that FastMM4 does not always release all of the program's memory back to the Operating system when objects are freed so that it can keep some memory around when it needs more. But this continual growing bothers me. Since no memory leaks are reported, I can't identify a problem. Does anyone know why this is happening, if it is bad, and if there is anything I can or should do about it?

• Params order in Foo.new(params[:foo]), need one before the other (Rails)

  I have a problem which I don't know how to fix. It has to do with the unsorted params hash. I have a object Reservation which has a virtual time= attribute and a virtual eating_session= attribute when I set the time= I also want to validate it via an external server request. I do that with help of the method times() which makes a lookup on a other server and saves all possible times in the @times variable. • populate UITableView from json

• How can I work around "Xcode could not locate source file"

  Hello, I'm working with the ID3 framework in Xcode (which has since disappeared off the face of the web - including google cache!). I'm testing out an import mp3 feature which allows them to edit the tags as they import them. One of the test cases is a corrupt or invalid mp3 with no proper id3 header. The problem I'm having is that when updating the tags of the invalid mp3 (updateFile:), the ID3 framework attempts to use id3V1Tag.m (I assume it falls back to this if it can't find the v2 tag) and this is where I get the Xcode error (whilst running the program, not building): Xcode could not locate source file: id3V1Tag.m (line: 299) Even in a release build this crashes the program, so it's not something I can really ignore. I've tried putting a try/catch block around it but it's not treated as an exception so doesn't get caught. The function to load the tag data for the file returns a BOOL but it appears this only returns false if the given file doesn't exist, so this doesn't help either.   Hello, I need to load Dimensions from EDW Tables (which does maintain historical records) and is of type Key-Value-Parameter. My scenario is ok if got a record in EDW as below Key1 Key2 Code Value EffectiveDate EndDate CurrentFlag 100 555 01 AAA 2010-01-01 11.00.00 9999-12-31 Y 100 555 02 BBB 2010-01-01 11.00.00 9999-12-31 Y This need to be loaded into DM by pivoting it as key1 and key2 combinations makes Natural key for DM SK NK 01 02 EffectiveDate EndDate CurrentFlag 1 100-555 AAA BBB 2010-01-01 11.00.00 9999-12-31 Y My ssis package does this all good pivoting... looking up the incoming NK in DIM.. if new will insert .. else with further lookup with effective date and determine if the incoming for same natural key got any new (change) in attribute.. if so updates the current record byy setting its end date and insert the new one with new attribute value and pulling the recent records values for other attributes. My problem is if the same natural key comes twice with same attribute in single extract my first lookup which on natural key .. will let both records pass and try to insert.. where its fails. If i get distinct records on NK the second is not picked and need to run package again. So my question how can i configure lookup or alernative way to handle this scenario when same NK comes twice in single extract, would be able to insert first record if not exists in Dim table and for second one should be able to updated with the changes with reference to one inserted above. Not sure this makes sense what am trying to explain. Will attached the screenshot once back to work desk (on monday). Thanks

• C# WPF XAML Problem with icon in GridViewColumn

  I've created a ListView with a GridView component in it. Now trying to fill one of the cells with an icon (PNG) like in the code sample below (save_icon.png): <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn Header="Date" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Date}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="Time" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Time}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="FriendlyName" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding FriendlyName}" /> <GridViewColumn Width="Auto"> <Image Source="save_icon.png" /> </GridViewColumn> </GridView> </ListView.View> Visual Studio gives me an error on the line, where i put the icon into the column (ERROR: "Error 35: The file save_icon.png is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'.") I added the icon to the project as a resource and when i start the app, everything works (the icon appears at the right place). But the WPF designer window can't be reloaded and i'm not able to see changes in the designer, when i change the XAML code. Can somebody explain this error or am i doing something wrong? • Subversion - Do I need to reintegrate if I don't merge from trunk

  Hi, I have read quite a bit about the need to re-integrate when you merge from a branch back to the trunk in SVN (This article was really helpful http://blogs.open.collab.net/svn/2008/07/subversion-merg.html). The problem seems to come from the fact that people are regularly updating the branch from the trunk which means that the final merge back is reflective. In my use-case, we want to create a release branch which will live for as long as it takes to stabilise the branch and fix any bugs. To maintain stability we don't want to merge up from the trunk but we do want to regularly merge fixes down from the release branch so that trunk gets all the bug fixes for free. We also don't want to wait until the end of QA to merge back to trunk. We therefore want to: 1.) Create the branch 2.) Make regular changes to the branch (and trunk) 3.) Merge back to trunk regularly (daily perhaps) Since we will never merge up from trunk I don't think that we need to worry about the problems that re-intergrating is designed to fix. Can anyone see a problem with this approach? Cheers, Matt

• Basic site analytics doesn't tally with Google data

  After being stumped by an earlier quesiton: SO google-analytics-domain-data-without-filtering I've been experimenting with a very basic analytics system of my own. MySQL table: hit_id, subsite_id, timestamp, ip, url The subsite_id let's me drill down to a folder (as explained in the previous question). I can now get the following metrics: Page Views - Grouped by subsite_id and date Unique Page Views - Grouped by subsite_id, date, url, IP (not nesecarily how Google does it!) The usual "most visited page", "likely time to visit" etc etc. I've now compared my data to that in Google Analytics and found that Google has lower values each metric. Ie, my own setup is counting more hits than Google. So I've started discounting IP's from various web crawlers, Google, Yahoo & Dotbot so far. Short Questions: Is it worth me collating a list of all major crawlers to discount, is any list likely to change regularly? Are there any other obvious filters that Google will be applying to GA data? What other data would you collect that might be of use further down the line? What variables does Google use to work out entrance search keywords to a site? The data is only going to used internally for our own "subsite ranking system", but I would like to show my users some basic data (page views, most popular pages etc) for their reference.

• Database warehoue design: fact tables and dimension tables

  I am building a poor man's data warehouse using a RDBMS. I have identified the key 'attributes' to be recorded as: sex (true/false) demographic classification (A, B, C etc) place of birth date of birth weight (recorded daily): The fact that is being recorded My requirements are to be able to run 'OLAP' queries that allow me to: 'slice and dice' 'drill up/down' the data and generally, be able to view the data from different perspectives After reading up on this topic area, the general consensus seems to be that this is best implemented using dimension tables rather than normalized tables. Assuming that this assertion is true (i.e. the solution is best implemented using fact and dimension tables), I would like to see some help in the design of these tables. 'Natural' (or obvious) dimensions are: Date dimension Geographical location Which have hierarchical attributes. However, I am struggling with how to model the following fields: sex (true/false) demographic classification (A, B, C etc) The reason I am struggling with these fields is that: They have no obvious hierarchical attributes which will aid aggregation (AFAIA) - which suggest they should be in a fact table They are mostly static or very rarely change - which suggests they should be in a dimension table. Maybe the heuristic I am using above is too crude? I will give some examples on the type of analysis I would like to carryout on the data warehouse - hopefully that will clarify things further. I would like to aggregate and analyze the data by sex and demographic classification - e.g. answer questions like: How does male and female weights compare across different demographic classifications? Which demographic classification (male AND female), show the most increase in weight this quarter. etc. Can anyone clarify whether sex and demographic classification are part of the fact table, or whether they are (as I suspect) dimension tables.? Also assuming they are dimension tables, could someone elaborate on the table structures (i.e. the fields)? The 'obvious' schema: CREATE TABLE sex_type (is_male int); CREATE TABLE demographic_category (id int, name varchar(4)); may not be the correct one.

• ASP.net AppendHeader not working in ASP MVC

  I'm having problems getting AppendHeader to work properly if I am also using an authorize filter. I'm using an actionfilter for my AJAX actions that applies Expires, Last-Modified, Cache-Control and Pragma (though while testing I have tried including it in the action method itself with no change in results). If I don't have an authorize filter the headers work fine. Once I add the filter the headers I tried to add get stripped.   At http://blogs.msdn.com/vcblog/archive/2010/04/06/c-0x-core-language-features-in-vc10-the-table.aspx there is a table showing C++0x features that are implemented in 2010 RC. Among them are listed forwarding enums and strongly typed enums but they are listed as "partial". The main text of the article says that this means they are either incomplete or implemented in some non-standard way. So I've got VS2010RC and am playing around with the C++0x features. I can't figure these ones out and can't find any documentation on these two features. When a cell is selected I push another view but this second view makes a call to a web service to bring data. • Newbie database index question

  I have a table with multiple indexes, several of which duplicate the same columns: Index 1 columns: X, B, C, D Index 2 columns: Y, B, C, D Index 3 columns: Z, B, C, D I'm not very knowledgeable on indexing in practice, so I'm wondering if somebody can explain why X, Y and Z were paired with these same columns. B is an effective date. C is a semi-unique key ID for this table for a specific effective date B. D is a sequence that identifies the priority of this record for the identifier C. Why not just create 6 indexes, one for each X, Y, Z, B, C, D? I want to add an index to another column T, but in some contexts I'll only be querying on T alone while in others I will also be specifying the B, C and D columns... so should I create just one index like above or should I create one for T and one for (T, B, C, D)? I've not had as much luck as expected when googling for comprehensive coverage of indexing. Any resources where I can get a through explanation and lots of examples of B-tree indexing?

• Using the groupby method in Python, example included

  Trying to work with groupby so that I can group together files that were created on the same day. When I say same day in this case, I mean the dd part in mm/dd/yyyy. So if a file was created on March 1 and April 1, they should be grouped together because the "1" matches. But then I'll see multiple groups with the same day. Meaning I might have 4 files grouped that were created on the 17th. Later on I'll see another unique set of 2 files that are also created on the 17th. Where am I going wrong?

  hi all, I am a newbie in working on VS IDE and have not much experience in how the different libraries and files are linked in it. I have to build a OpenCV project which was made in VS2005 by one of my colleagues into VS2008. The project is for blob detection. Following is what he has to say in readme : Steps to use the library (using MSVC++ sp 5): 1 - open the project of the library and build it 2 - in the project where the library should be used, add: 2.1 In "Project/Settings/C++/Preprocessor/Additional Include directories" add the directory where the blob library is stored 2.2 In "Project/Settings/Link/Input/Additional library path" add the directory where the blob library is stored and in "Object/Library modules" add the cvblobslib.lib file 3- Include the file "BlobResult.h" where you want to use blob variables. 4- To see an example on using the blob library, see the file example.txt inside the zip file. NOTE: Verify that in the project where the cvblobslib.lib is used, the MFC Runtime Libraries are not mixed: Check in "Project-Settings-C/C++-Code Generation-Use run-time library" of your project and set it to Debug Multithreaded DLL (debug version ) or to Multithreaded DLL ( release version ). 2 Check in "Project-Settings-General" how it uses the MFC. It should be "Use MFC in a shared DLL". NOTE: The library can be compiled and used in .NET using this steps, but the menu options may differ a little NOTE2: In the .NET version, the character sets must be equal in the .lib and in the project.
