How to get new logs in an EventLogEntyCollection?

I need to monitor security event logs on very busy domain controllers, which generates hundreds of them each minute. I know how to use EventLog, EventLogEntry and EvenLogEntryCollection to open and read a server's event log, but an EvenLogEntryCollection can contain ~300.000 events, and it wraps around continuously (and very fast), so I can't rely on its index to find new entries. So far, the only thing I was able to come up with is saving the timestamp of the last processed log entry and then iterate above the EventLogEntryCollection until I find an EventLogEntry which TimeGenerated properties is greater than the timestamp I saved; but it's terribly slow to iterate on ~300.000 entries to find the new ones. How can I quickly find the new entries in an big event log?

How do I style just the thumbnail image in this post?

I need help with some CSS styling. I've tried various options with Firebug and cannot sort this out. How can I style the thumbnails on my posts (eg url: http://thatcriticguy.com/index.php?post/4/crossover-9-revamped-reinvented-and-a-must-have) and not style all images in the post at the same time. I have numerous posts on this site and need to only style the ones that are thumbnails that float right. Is there a way to do this without modifying the template code just using CSS?

Rails routes looking for show action

I am pretty new to rails and basically I want to make a user registration form. I am currently using rails 3.2.3 Basically I want to make basic routes like user/register on top of basic REST route for user. Here are my routes.rb resources :user do collection do get 'register' end end And here are my rake routes: register_user_index GET /user/register(.:format) user#register user_index GET /user(.:format) user#index POST /user(.:format) user#create new_user GET /user/new(.:format) user#new edit_user GET /user/:id/edit(.:format) user#edit user GET /user/:id(.:format) user#show PUT /user/:id(.:format) user#update DELETE /user/:id(.:format) user#destroy From my understanding, since register user is on top of show, it should match with register first before going to show. However, when I try to do localhost:3000/user/register, it gives me this error: No route matches {:action="show", :controller="user"} Can somebody help me with this? Thanks!!

Reading in data from a file into an array

If I have an options file along the lines of this: size = 4 data = 1100010100110010 And I have a 2d size * size array that I want to populate the values in data into, what's the best way of doing it? To clarify, for the example I have I'd want an array like this: int[4][4] array = {{1,1,0,0}, {0,1,0,1}, {0,0,1,1}, {0,0,1,0}}. (Not real code but you get the idea). Size can be really be any number though. I'm thinking I'd have to read in the size, maloc an array and then maybe read in a string full of data then loop through each char in the data, cast it to an int and stick it in the appropriate index? But I really have no idea how to go about it, have been searching for a while with no luck. Any help would be cool! :)

Help choosing the right data structure

I need a data structure with the following requirements: Needs to be able to get elements by index (like a List). I will always just add / remove elements from the end of the structure. I am inclined to use an ArrayList. In this situation, it seems to be O(1) both to read elements (they always are?), remove elements (I only need to remove them at the end of the list) and to add(I only add to the end of the list). There is only the problem that time to time the ArrayList will have a performance penalty when it's completly full and I need to add more elements to it. Is there any other better idea? I don't think of a data structure that'd beat the ArrayList here. Thanks

C++ allocate objects on heap of base class with protected constructors via inheritance

I have a class with protected constructor: class B { protected: B(){}; }; Now I derive from it and define two static functions and I manage to actually create objects of the class B, but not on the heap: class A : public B { public: static B createOnStack() {return B();} //static B* createOnHeap() {return new B;} //Compile time Error on VS2010 }; B b = A::createOnStack(); //This works on VS2010! The question is: 1) Is VS2010 wrong in allowing the first case? 2) Is it possible to create objects of B without modifying B in any way (no friendship and no extra functions). How do stream rows from a MSSQL table into a .NET app, in 10000 row chunks?

I have a table with 300 million rows in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. There is a clustered index on the date column [DataDate] which means that the entire table is ordered by the date column. How do I stream out the data from this table, into my .NET application, in 10000 row chunks? Environment: Using C#. Have to be able to pause the data stream at any point, to allow the client to process the rows. Unfortunately, cannot use a select * from as this will select the entire table (its 50GB - it won't fit into memory).

Removing items from a nested list Python

I'm trying to remove items from a nested list in Python. I have a nested list as follows: families = [[0, 1, 2],[0, 1, 2, 3],[0, 1, 2, 3, 4],[1, 2, 3, 4, 5],[2, 3, 4, 5, 6]] I want to remove the entries in each sublist that coorespond to the indexed position of the sublist in the master list. So, for example, I need to remove 0 from the first sublist, 1 from second sublist, etc. I am trying to use a list comrehension do do this. This is what I have tried: familiesNew = [ [ families[i][j] for j in families[i] if i !=j ] for i in range(len(families)) ] This works for range(len(families)) up to 3, however beyond that I get IndexError: list index out of range. I'm not sure why. Can somebody give me an idea of how to do this. Preferably a one-liner (list comprehension). Thanks.

How do you tell git to permanently ignore changes in a file?

Hi all, I'm working with a git repository that's storing data for a website. It contains a .htaccess file, with some values that are suitable for the production server. In order for me to work on the site, I have to change some values in the file, but I never want to commit these changes or I will break the server. Since .gitignore doesn't work for tracked files, I was using "git update-index --assume-unchanged .htaccess" to ignore my changes in the file, however this only works until you switch branches. Once you change back to your original branch, your changes are lost. Is there some way of telling git to ignore changes in a file and leave it alone when changing branches? (Just as if the file was untracked.)

Ruby on Rails ActiveScaffold: Showing {{model}} instead of model name?

Hi there, I'm using ActiveScaffold with Ruby on Rails and I'm loving it, however there is one weird thing. Whenever I hit "Edit" or "Create New" in my webapp's ActiveScaffold, it says "Create {{model}}" or "Update {{model}}" in the webapp rather than using the model's name. Why is this? I have an ads_controller.rb that includes this: active_scaffold :ad do |config| config.label = "Ads" config.columns = [:name, :description, :imageUrl, :linkUrl, :apps, :created_at, :updated_at] config.update.columns = [:name, :description, :imageUrl, :linkUrl, :apps] config.create.columns = config.update.columns list.sorting = {:created_at => 'DESC'} columns[:imageUrl].label = "Image URL" columns[:linkUrl].label = "Link URL" end And my routes.rb includes this: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.root :controller => 'admin_home', :action => 'index' admin.resources :ads, :active_scaffold => true end Any thoughts on why I'm seeing "Create {{model}}" instead of "Create ad" ?

Using cachedwithin attibute inside cfquery

When you use the cachedwithin attribute in a cfquery how does it store the query in memory. Does it store it by only the name you assign to the query? For example, if on my index page I cache a query for an hour and name it getPeople will a query with the same name on a different page (or the same page for that matter) use the cached results or does it use some better logic to decide if it is the same query? Also, if there is a variable in your query does the cache take into account the value of the variable?

compromised site

So, I have a web site that has been compromised twice in two weeks. every index.php and .js file gets a script injecting into the source code of the file. The problem is that I have no idea how they're doing it. I've seen this done via sql injection before, but I don't know how they are actually writing to the file. I've dug through the Apache logs but didn't find anything interesting. The site is built using the cakephp framework on a godaddy shared server. Anybody know what secturity settings or log files to check to see how they are doing this?

IE display problem

accessing variable sheet ranges within Google spreadsheet?

I've been trying to keep this little project entirely within Google docs, but I may have hit a wall. The spreadsheet is being used as a way for multiple users to record individual events with a Template they duplicate. I want to be able to compile a list of names of those attended onto a "report" sheet from all of the unique sheets, which should be after a certain sheet index [3] to [infinite]. Is this sort of variable sheet range possible in Google spreadsheets or do I need to go to the API to get this accomplished?

RoR: Where is the "rails/info/properties" route defined?

I'm running Rails 2.3.4. When I create a new rails project, the public/index.html file has a link named "About your application's environment" that points to "rails/info/properties". In dev mode, it gives a summary of the runtime environment. However, in production mode, it gives a 404 page cannot be found. Could someone point me in the direction of how and where the "rails/info/properties" route is configured? I'd just like to understand how it's set up.

Can you use POST to run a query in Solr (/select)

I have queries that I am running against out solr index that sometimes have very long query parameters, I get errors when i run these queries, which i assume are do to the limit of a GET query parameters. Here is the method I use to query (JSON), this is to show I am using the Http Extensions (the client i use is a thin wrapper for HttpClient) not an end to end solution. 90% of the queries run fine, it is just when the params are large i get the 500 error from solr. I have read somewhere you can use POSt's when doing the select command but have not found examples of how to do it. Is there anything wrong with checking so many things in this unit test?: ActualModel = ActualResult.AssertViewRendered() // check 1 .ForView("Index") // check 2 .WithViewData<List<Page>>(); // check 3 CollectionAssert.AreEqual(Expected, ActualModel); // check 4 The primary goals of this test are to verify the right view is returned (check 2) and it contains the right data (check 4). Would I gain anything by splitting this into multiple tests? I'm all about doing things right, but I'm not going to split things up if it doesn't have practical value. I'm pretty new to unit testing, so be gentle.

Sorting an NSArray of NSString

Can someone please show me the code for sorting an NSMutableArray? I have the following NSMutableArray: NSMutableArray *arr = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; with elements such as "2", "4", "5", "1", "9", etc which are all NSString. I'd like to sort the list in descending order so that the largest valued integer is highest in the list (index 0). I tried the following: [arr sortUsingSelector:@selector(compare:)]; but it did not seem to sort my values properly. Can someone show me code for properly doing what I am trying to accomplish? jQuery .get()/.post() doesn't send an updated cookie

I am working with the sample Home application project on http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/Home/index.html I've added another value to the THUMBS_IDS and IMAGE_IDS Integer arrays in the Wallpaper class for a total of four wallpaper options. When I run the application with Device API version 7, Skin: HVGA, hw.lcd.density: 160, in portrait layout, the fourth wallpaper option is not shown. I need to use the directional keys in the emulator to see the 4th wallpaper option, because the first option is centered. I have modified only the wallpaper.xml file with a variety of android:layout_* options with no success at this point. How do I show all four of my wallpaper options?

CakePHP delete() function is not working

Hello, Im just cracking open cakePHP (v1.3.2). I set it up on my local wamp server, seems to work fine except the delete() function doesn't work. I'm following their blog tutorial exactly, its as simple as it can be so I don't understand why its not working. Heres the function in my PostsController class: function delete($id = NULL) { $this->Post->delete($id); $this->Session->setFlash('The post with id: '.$id.' has been deleted.'); $this->redirect(array('action'=>'index')); } The "Delete" link's url looks like http://localhost/posts/delete/id:1 (where the id number matches the particular post, obviously). It redirects and sets the flash message, however there is no number where $id should be in the message, and the post isn't deleted. It seems the proper id is passed through the url, but I don't think it is getting into the function. I dont get it. Any ideas???
