Note that any third party tools have to be free (but not necessarily open-source); the company I work for will not pay for additional tooling.     I'm tying to use one database call and reuse that data for other controls - without having to do another call. Scenario: I call the books table which returns all the authors and titles. I create an author's list control called list1 to displays all the titles by Shakespeare and a list2 to display titles by Charles Dickens.     I have a gridview with edit option at the start of the row. Also I maintain a seperate table called Permission where I maintain user permissions. I have three different types of permissions like Admin, Leads, Programmers. These all three will have access to the gridview. Except admin if anyone tries to edit the gridview on clicking the edit option, I need to give an alert like This row has important validation and make sure you make proper changes. When I edit, the action with happen on table called Application. The table has a column called Comments. Also the alert should happen only when they try to edit rows where the Comments column have these values in them.     I'm working on getting an MVC app up and running via AD Membership Provider and I'm having some issues figuring this out. Login without typing the domain (i.e. the "@my.domain.com"). I realize that this could only work if I limit myself to just one domain - that's fine. Organize users in up to N different OUs within a single OU. As you can tell from my current connection string, I'm authenticating users in my Product Users OU. I would LIKE to create OUs for various companies within this OU and put the users into those OUs. How can I authenticate across all of these different OUs? I'm trying to figure out how the Active Directory Membership Provider ties in with the Profile and Role providers. Are there AD versions of those too or am I stuck with SQL, home-grown, or finding something somebody else has coded up? Many thanks!!

    Hello! I have a WinForms application (OwnerForm) with some UserControl. When textbox of UserControl is changed, I want to filter content of a OwnerForm. But how can I make it? I don't want to specify OwnerForm inside the user control. I know a solution to add manually handlers for MyUserControl.tb.TextChanged to some functions on a owner form, but I think it's bad way. I'll prefer to have overridable functions, but I can't imagine how to do it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

  • Dynamically creating objects at runtime that inherit from a base class

    I am writing a game editor, and have a lot of different "tool" objects. They all inherit from BTool and have the same constructor. I would like to dynamically populate a toolbox at runtime with buttons that correspond to these tools, and when clicked have them create an instance of that tool and set it as the current tool. Is this possible, and if so will it be better/easier than creating those buttons by hand?

    I am trying UpdatePanel & AsyncPostBackTrigger on master pages through find control method but problem is when I click on button (UpdateButton) It just flash/flick (No Postback) the UpdatePanle but still it don't update or refresh the gridview (images) inside the updatePanel. I have placed script Manger on the master page & an AJAX Update panel in a ContentPlaceHolder in the child page. Also, in another ContentPlaceholder there is an asp button (outside of the UpdatePanel). I want to refresh/reload the AJAX UpdatePanel with this asp button. Thanks for suggestions.   • Is there unreachable code in this snippet? I don't think so, but Resharper is telling me otherwise.

    I have the following method I came across in a code review. Inside the loop Resharper is telling me that if (narrativefound == false) is incorrect becuase narrativeFound is always true. I don't think this is the case, because in order to set narrativeFound to true it has to pass the conditional string compare first, so how can it always be true? Am I missing something?     I've been playing with MVC 3 in a test project and have the following issue. I have Group & Subscriber entities and those are coupled through a SubscriberGroup table. Using the DetailView of Group I open a view of SubscriberGroup containing all subscribers. This list has the option to filter. So far it all works, however when I call the AddToGroup method on the controller it fails. Specifically it goes into the method but doesn't pass the subscriberCheckedModels list.   • How does Model binding with a selectlist work?

    Hi, I'm having problems retrieving the values of a selectlist in my form collection. I've tried making a viewmodel with an attribute with the same name as the select list. I'm honestly just realizing I REALLY don't understand how model binding works with selectlists. I've just been assuming that the following conventions apply: Name the select list the same thing as the attribute on the model you want it to bind to. Apart from that, I really don't get it. I've looked at several books on it and they're useless frankly. How does a select list work with a) form collection and b) a particular model?

    This is really driving me crazy. I've got a button inside a gridview to remove that item from the gridview (its datasource is a list). I've got the list being saved to session anytime a change is being made to it, and on page_load check if that session variable is empty, if not, then set that list to bind to the gridview. If I keep it commented out...it fires no problem, but then of course my list can never have more than one item since I am not loading the saved list from session into the gridview but just a fresh one. But the button click is being registered, because page_load is being stepped through again when I am viewing in debug mode, just deleteUser never fires. Why is this happening?? And how can I fix it??

Does anyone know where I can find some examples of this type of validation...or can somebody whip one up for me? :)

    Hi, I have a news table and I would like to implement custom ordering. I have done this before via a positional mapping table which has newsIds and a position. I then LEFT OUTER JOIN the position table ON news.newsId = position.itemId with a select case statement CASE WHEN [position] IS NULL THEN 9999 ELSE [position] END and order by position asc, articleDate desc. Now I am trying to do the same with Linq to Entities. I have set up my tables with a PK, FK relationship so that my News object has an Entity Collection of positions. Now comes the bit I can't work out. How to implement the LEFT OUTER JOIN. I have so far: var query = SelectMany (n => n.Positions, (n, s) => new { n, s }) .OrderBy(x => x.s.position) .ThenByDescending(x => x.n.articleDate) .Select(x => x.n); This kinda works. However this uses a INNER JOIN so not what I am after. I had another idea: ret = ret.OrderBy(n => n.ShufflePositions.Select(s => s.position)); However I get the error DbSortClause expressions must have a type that is order comparable. I also tried ret = ret.GroupJoin(tse.ShufflePositions, n => n.id, s => s.itemId, (n, s) => new { n, s }) .OrderBy(x => x.s.Select(z => z.position)) .ThenByDescending(x => x.n.articleDate) .Select(x => x.n); but I get the same error! If anyone can help me out, it would be much appreciated!

The list is a global variable, and on page_load I set that to the gridview's datasource and databind it. However, anytime I click the 'add a user' button, or the button to remove the user from the list. So if that's the case, why is it calling page_load everytime I click the buttons? I ran this code and debug and I see that even before any of the code associated with button press fires, page_load runs again. I tried putting the gvAssociatedUser.Datasource = associatedFaculty and the line below inside the Page.IsPostBack check, that prevented the page from working. I tried every combination of settings of the update panel for ChildrenAsTriggers and UpdateMode, and none of them worked. I know this is something simple, but all the combinations I've tried won't get it to work. How can I make this thing work?

    How to fill multiple tables in a dataset. I m using a query that returns me four tables. At the frontend I am trying to fill all the four resultant table into dataset. Here is my Query. Query is not complete. But it is just a refrence for my Ques Select * from tblxyz compute sum(col1) suppose this query returns more than one table, I want to fill all the tables into my dataset I am filling result like this con.open(); adp.fill(dset); con.close(); Now when i checks this dataset. It shows me that it has four tables but only first table data is being displayed into it. rest 3 dont even have schema also. What i need to do to get desired output
