• Link to specific page on Google Document Viewer on iPad

  I am thinking of using the Google Document Viewer to show PDF files that are hosted by our company server. The scenario is: A webpage will contain a menu with menu items that are actually different pages of a PDF file. After clicking a menu item, that particular page from the pdf will be displayed on that same web page This project is targeted for mobile devices (iPad, for now) Now, I am using an iFrame like below: But I don't know if linking to a specific page is possible or Google would like that because I tried the solutions posted on how to open specific page on Google's docs viewer and http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/11/link-to-page-in-googles-document-viewer.html but all of them seem to be outdated. Is this even possible? Thanks for any help.

This solution will include a CMS for building the website and various interfaces for various types of users. I'm to do a "Solutions Architecture" document for the same. • How to scan for available networks for Blackberry device from application?

  Hi All, Is there any RIM API available which will help to get the list of available network service or only Wi-Fi networks for a device and set selected network access point for any network communications? Is it possible programmatically to disable the Mobile networks like GPRS, WAP, etc? For Ex: When a application is started it should scan for WiFi connections (even if there are no previous WiFi network access points are set on device) and list the available WiFi connection. Then user will select the appropriate WiFi connection to connect for any network communication. Outside the application any internet communication (like browser or any other application) should done through same selected WiFi connection. The scanning for WiFi and setting the connection is almost similar to Blackberry WiFi Setup. If anyone know how to implement this using available RIM API and let me know its possible or not. Please share if anyone have any code snippet related to this. I am looking for OS v4.5, 4.7, and 5.0. Thanks, siddh.

  I want to write an App for android that has only one ListView. The App will constantly search for anything (mobile devices, desktops, etc.) that is connected in the wifi network. The problem is, I have no idea how to do this. What do I need to study? I comprehend I'd need to use a Thread or a Runnable to constantly search for those devices. Also I know very little about TCP, UDP or any internet protocols. So, can someone give me a basis of what I need to learn to develop this App?

• Specifying Sd card mountable as removable disk in android manifest

  My android app requires that the device has an SDcard and that SDcard is mountable on a PC or MAC as a FileSystem (removable disk) . It is because there is a program for windows which my mobile app writes to sd card which user has to run from his PC and that program works on files on that Mounted SD card and disks on PC from windows. This was a problem on most the Tablets because not all of them can mount their SDcard as removable disk on PC without requiring special drivers on PC for that tablet. But for majority of ICS phones the PC seems to mount the disk as removable storage so I would like to limit my app for the API 8 - API15 (Phones only) Is there a way to specify in the manifest of an android app that the app should work with an ICS android phone and not the ICS tablets so that users having tablets can not download it from android market ?   I have some code I use to transfer a table1 values to another table2, they are sitting in different database. It's slow when I have 100.000 records. It takes forever to finish, 10+ minutes. • Can I create and connect to a SQL Server CE database if SQL Server 2005 isn't installed?

  Is there any way to do this? Update: Sorry, I should have included more information. I am trying to create and connect to a SQL CE database using System.Data.SqlServerCe in C# running on a PC (i.e. not running on a Windows Mobile device). This code: string connstr = "Data Source=\"" + filename + "\";Persist Security Info=False;"; System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeEngine engine = new SqlCeEngine(connstr); engine.CreateDatabase(); ... works fine on any PC that has SQL Server 2005 installed, but fails on any PC that doesn't have it installed. I'm trying to find out if there's any way to get this to work without installed SQL Server 2005 on the machine.

  I'm writing an application in C# for a smart device running Windows Mobile 6.1. It's pretty basic. Just querying a database and getting results. Nothing too fancy. This program is only going to be deployed internally, but we still want to be secure with our SQL connection info. What's the best way I should go about encrypting/securing my connection string in the program? I've seen examples for .NET programs using AppSettings, but I'm not seeing a Setting stab in my Solution properties. This is my first time developing an application in C#/Visual Studio 2008, so there might be some kind of setting I'm missing. Thanks for the help.

  I have an architecture where a task-based UI passes commands to a service layer. Now, my intention is to implement the UI in javascript, using KendoUI and the service layer, domain layer etc. in .NET. I'm also looking at future mobile implementations of the client that may use say Java rather than Javascript. If I define the commands in .NET, I'd like to know how to use them from my Javascript client so the client can communicate the commands appropriately to service layer. Do I have to use something like Apache Thrift for this i.e. to define the commands at both the client and service layer?

And in consideration, id like to go into mobile app dev...So thats +1 for Java. Time taken to learn the language is not an issue...Just would like to know which is the most profitable at the end of all the training. And on a slight note. Can Javascript work with Java? • How do I find the IP address of a GPRS modem?

  I want to pull data from a device that is accessed via a serial protocol and has a GPRS modem attached which should allow transparent access over an IP connection. It seems to me that this approach is upside down, because how should I know at which IP address the device currently is? Unfortunately, the device itself is rather dumb, so I can't make it send something to my server, which would reveal the current IP. For home routers on dialup lines, there's dynamic DNS services. Is there something equivalent in the mobile world? Each modem would, of course, have its phone number as a reliable address, but how does that help me? Practically all material on GPRS etc. that I can find online seems to be concerned with initiating the connection from the modem side, since that's what the system is designed for.

• keyboard in UIWebView shows and then hides itself on input focus

  I have a page that's loading into a UIWebView (which takes 100% of the screen) on an iPad. When I touch a text field, the page positions the text field to the right place and the keyboard starts to come up, but then it turns around and goes back down and blur is called on the input field. When I try this same page in mobile Safari, the keyboard is able to deploy successfully. I can't figure out what the rules are for the keyboard to show successfully and stay up = and why this is different for uiwebview than safari. All my research on the subject has yielded no answers.

The "Categories" table have 5 entries, they are: "Car", "Websites", "Technology", "Mobile Phones", and "Interest". So each time I put an entry to the "Pages" table, I need to map it to the "Categories" table so are arranged properly. • Secure password transmission over unencrypted tcp/ip

  I'm in the designing stages of a custom tcp/ip protocol for mobile client-server communication. When not required (data is not sensitive), I'd like to avoid using SSL for overhead reasons (both in handshake latency and conserving cycles). My question is, what is the best practices way of transmitting authentication information over an unencrypted connection? Currently, I'm liking SRP or J-PAKE (they generate secure session tokens, are hash/salt friendly, and allow kicking into TLS when necessary), which I believe are both implemented in OpenSSL. However, I am a bit wary since I don't see many people using these algorithms for this purpose. Would also appreciate pointers to any materials discussing this topic in general, since I had trouble finding any.

• Sending passwords over the web

  So I'm working on a mobile platform application that I'd like to have users authenticate over the web. I was wondering the best way to do security. The user is sending a password for HTTP to a php server wich authenticates against a mysql database on the same server. Obviously I don't want to send the password in plain text over the internet, but I also don't want to do 2 SHA hashes. This is what the server looks like (in pseudocode) $pass = $_POST['pass']; if ((get PASSWORD where USERNAME = USERNAME) == SHA($pass)) return PASS; This is pretty standard and I don't think there's any other way to do this. But I was wondering how I should prepare the data before sending it over the internet.

• Send data to webserver from C#, what's the most efficient way?

  I am sending gps coordinates from a windows mobile phone to a webserver using a basic program I wrote in C#. The problem is the data plan on the phone only allows 4 MB per month. I was planning on updating the location every 10 seconds. Currently I am just creating a webrequest every 10 seconds to a php page on the server and the coordinates are passed over in the url, the php page saves them to the database. This generates about 1K of data per request, at this rate I will hit my data limit in less than a day. Is there a more efficient way to do this?

  I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any T4 template based method interception systems? We are beginning to write mobile applications (currently with MonoTouch for IOS). We have a very nice core set of DI/IoC functionality and I'd like to leverage this in development for the new platform. Since runtime code generation Reflection.Emit is not supported, I'm hoping to use T4 templates to implement the dynamic interception functionality (+ TinyIoC as a container for resolution). We are currently using Castle Windsor (and intend to continue doing so for our SL and full .NET development), but all of the Windsor specific ties are completely encapsulated, so given a suitable T4 solution, it shouldn't be hard to implement an adapter that uses a T4 based implementation instead of Windsor.

  I am currently writing some pretty gnarly C#/C++/Cli code to interface with Telecommunication equipement and GSM Mobile Networks for a couple of the major telecom here and abroad. GSM networks primarily use SS7 Signaling using a protocol called TCAP to send messages back and forth to Signaling Points within the network. The laws of Tcp/ip do not apply here :) I am very interested in hearing from others in this space specifically individuals using the .NET framework most likely using C# / C++. I have not come across any .NET libraries or tools to assist in this sort of development. Most of the software in this industry is "C" / Java based, as a result I have written tons of infrastructure .NET code using C# where possible and C++ / CLI to interface with hardware. Is anyone aware of any .NET language tools for this niche industry?

  I'm currently writing some stylesheets for mobile browsers and have come across a strange issue in the Android browser. When changing the font-size CSS attribute of a text box the box gets bigger to accomodate the larger text. Doing this on a select box however does not change the size of the select box, but the text still gets larger (actually overlapping the top and bottom of the rendered form element). Can anyone tell me if it's possible to increase the height of select boxes in the Android browser. Or if not point me in the direction of a list of CSS attributes that can be applied to them.   I have simple Haxe app like class Main { public static function main() { trace("hello world"); } } I know how to compile such app for windows (not as SWF but as app from pure C\C++ )(and you can see how here but be worned thay use hxcpp\0,4 ) The problem is - I do not want to compile app for Windows Vista or 7 or XP I want to get PURE C\C++ code (better in one place as one project) for for example compiling that code on windows mobile or where ever I want to. So is there any algorithm for turning simple HAXE code into C/C++ code files?

• JavaScript QR Code Reader - can it be done? Or, Remote Service?

  I'm doing a bit of preliminary research on an upcoming project and I have a quick question that I figure I'll throw up here while I look elsewhere, in case anyone has any experience with this. The question is simple: is it possible to read a QR code using JavaScript? Is there a remote service to which I can pass a bitmap object from a camera and do it that way? Are there currently any libraries that allow this? The project is going to be deployed to various mobile devices and we'd like to try to use Appcelerator to make it work. I know Appcelerator does expose the Camera API on its host devices, but whatever we do with it has to be able to parse QR codes. Is this something that can be done? Thanks in advance! myk
