  • How to send a signal SIGINT from script to script ? BASH

    - by debugger
I want to trap a signal send from Script-A.sh to Script-B.sh so in Script-A.sh i use the command (Send SIGINT to Script-B.sh) kill -2 $PID_Script-B.sh And in Script-B.sh i catch the signal and call function Clean trap 'Clean' 2 It does not work, instead the Script-B.sh is killed right away without performing the Clean !! What i notice also is that if i want to send SIGINT from terminal to any script that traps it, a ctrl-c will be catched correctly, but not if i specify the signal via the command kill -2 $pid_of_script Any idea about the difference between the two method to send the SIGINT (ctrl-c VS kill -2 $pid_of_script), and how i can send a SIGINT from a script to another ? Regards, Debugger

  • How and why are operating systems bootable from a USB?

    - by user114638
I'm told to install ubuntu on my laptop for work in order to learn shell scripting. I've read the best way is to install ubuntu on a USB stick and partition my HDD. I'm curious how an OS is bootable from a USB stick? Is it literally just a small interface that can be put anywhere? This reminds me of a time I downloaded a game onto my USB stick, when I brought it to my friends house he told me it will run slow if I don't install it and only run it from the usb, is this different from running ubuntu from a usb? Will ubuntu be slow?

  • Problems with VBScript - RegRead when running as a service

    - by Brandon
I am working on a script that runs under a custom installation utility, which is running as a service. To get the current user name the script executes this command: str_Acct_Name_Val = "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Logon User Name" str_Acct_Name = RegRead(str_Acct_Name_Val) When I run the script from the command prompt, it can read that value just fine (under an administrator account). When the value is attempted to be read with service/local system privileges, the read fails. What is the problem here? EDIT: Some additional information. When running as a service calling the current user name returns "SYSTEM" and my guess is that HKCU doesn't "exist" under the view of the SYSTEM, since there is technically no current user. There is a user logged in at the time, but not in the scope of the running script. Maybe there is somewhere in HKLM I could find the currently logged on user?

  • MissingSourceFile when I run "cucumber features"

    - by Jess
I had cucumber 0.6.1 working quite fine... but I ran the gem update cucumber command, and things went smoothly. Then when I decided to run the cucumber features command, I received this error: Using the default profile... no such file to load -- cucumber/webrat/element_locator (MissingSourceFile) /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in gem_original_require' /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:inpolyglot_original_require' So I tried a few things... I did a gem update on webrat, that didn't work. I removed all previous versions of cucumber by doing gem uninstall cucumber then selecting past versions. Same with webrat. No luck. What am I doing wrong?

  • Missed environment variables in Eclipse Juno

    - by hara
I recently moved from Eclipse Indigo to Juno. I installed the IDE in my Ubuntu 12.04 by downloading the archive from here. Then I created an entry in the unity launcher for Juno as I done before for Indigo. Here is what I wrote in ~/.local/share/applications/eclipse-juno.desktop: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Name=Eclipse Juno Comment=Eclipse Integrated Developmentm Environment Icon=~/.eclipse-juno/icon.xpm Exec=~/.eclipse-juno/eclipse -vmargs -Duser.name="my name" Terminal=false Categories=Development;IDE;Java; When I run eclipse from the unity launcher, eclipse does not see environment variables that I set in ~/.bascrc. Instead, if I run eclipse from shell, it can see all the env variables. How can I fix the problem? Thanks a lot.

  • Maven mercurial extension constantly fails

    - by TheLQ
After 2+ hours I was able to get the maven-scm-provider-hg extension (for pushing to mercurial repos from Maven) semi working, meaning that it was executing commands instead of just giving errors. However I think I've run into a wall with this error [INFO] [deploy:deploy {execution: default-deploy}] [INFO] Retrieving previous build number from pircbotx.googlecode.com [INFO] Removing C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\wagon-scm1210107000.checkout\pir cbotx\pircbotx\1.3-SNAPSHOT [INFO] EXECUTING: cmd.exe /X /C "hg clone -r tip https://*SNIP*@site.pircbotx.googlecode.com/hg/maven2/snapshots/pircbotx/pircbotx/1.3-SNAPSHOT C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\wagon-scm1210107000.checkout\pircbotx\pircbotx\1.3-SNAPSHOT" [INFO] EXECUTING: cmd.exe /X /C "hg locate" [INFO] repository metadata for: 'snapshot pircbotx:pircbotx:1.3-SNAPSHOT' could not be found on repository: pircbotx.googlecode.com, so will be created Uploading: scm:hg:https://site.pircbotx.googlecode.com/hg/maven2/snapshots/pircbotx/pircbotx/1.3-SNAPSHOT/pircbotx-1.3-SNAPSHOT.jar [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [ERROR] BUILD ERROR [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Error deploying artifact: Error listing repository: No such command 'list'. • Eclipse and python: library will import in interprer, but not in IDE

    - by John
I'm running Windows 7, Python 2.6.4 and the latest version of Eclipse. I downloaded the boto library (http://code.google.com/p/boto/) and ran python setup.py install, which created boto-1.9b-py2.6.egg in C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages. Importing a class - say, by doing 'from boto.sqs.connection import SQSConnection' - works fine from the python command line tool. But Eclipse will not find boto, despite the fact that it is using the same python interpreter as I am using when at the command line. I added the library as an external source folder, but that didn't work either. How can I properly import the boto library into Eclipse? Thanks.

  • How to add a timeout value when using Java's Runtime.exec()?

    - by James Adams
I have a method I am using to execute a command on the local host. I'd like to add a timeout parameter to the method so that if the command being called doesn't finish in a reasonable amount of time the method will return with an error code. Here's what it looks like so far, without the ability to timeout: public static int executeCommandLine(final String commandLine, final boolean printOutput, final boolean printError) throws IOException, InterruptedException { Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime(); Process process = runtime.exec(commandLine); if (printOutput) { BufferedReader outputReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream())); System.out.println("Output: " + outputReader.readLine()); } if (printError) { BufferedReader errorReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getErrorStream())); System.out.println("Error: " + errorReader.readLine()); } return process.waitFor(); } Can anyone suggest a good way for me to implement a timeout parameter? Thanks in advance for any suggestions! --James

    - by HackToHell
I am setting up a new user let his name be ftpguy. He has access to only one directory /var/www/xxx. I have already chowned the directory so that he has write and read privileges. However I am able to log in with my ssh creditals to my ftp server without any problems.(I do not use a key).

  • Progressing Alfresco workflows through web script

    - by Domchi
I have an Alfresco document reference; what I'm looking for is a way to access workflow attached to that document and finish it (or progress it to the next transition) through Javascript. Almost every example on the web shows how to start workflow, and from the dashlet I could call task command processor (/alfresco/command/task/end/[/transition]) if I knew the task ID, but how do I do the same thing from server-side web script starting only from the document reference? There must be a way to access workflows from document and manage them programatically.

  • How to use Fixedsys in the Gnome Terminal, or wherever monospaced fonts are required

    - by Walter Tross
I think that the Fixedsys font is one of the most readable monospaced fonts for programming. It has zero antialiasing, with vertical lines mostly 2 pixels wide. Close to ideal for current monitor dot pitches, in my eyes (literally). After years of Windows at home (for family reasons) and Linux servers at work accessed through Cygwin on Windows (for company policy reasons), with Fixedsys as the shell and IDE font, I have decided to switch to the Ubuntu desktop. Eclipse and gedit are no problem, they accept the Fixedsys Excelsior TTF font. But the Gnome Terminal only accepts monospaced fonts. Although Fixedsys Excelsior is essentially monospaced, it contains larger glyphs (mostly for eastern languages), and also some ligatures. Since apparently ALL characters must have the same width for a font to be recognized as monospaced, Fixedsys Excelsior cannot be selected in all those contexts where monospaced fonts are required, including gnome-terminal. So what is the easiest/cleanest way to use a Fixedsys clone font in contexts that only accept monospaced fonts?

  • Indy10 Deadlock at TCPServer

    - by user1769184
to write information on the processing state to the GUI inside a tcpserver.onexecute(..) function , i used the following command sequence ExecuteDUMMYCommand(Global_Send_Record); BitMap_PaintImageProcess; TThread.Synchronize(nil, BitMap_PaintImageProcess); The code is working well on some machines, but on a few it fails. The code execution stops atTThread.Synchronize command. I guess on these machines the function call is trapped inside a deadlock Any chance to figure out the real problem behind ? The procedure BitMap_PaintImageProcess , here I create a Bitmap and do a lot of painting stuff , but is seems that this code is never executed ?

  • Can anyone tell me why Gnome 3 looks like as if it were a gnome fallback session in my virtualbox?

    - by Elysium
For some reason Gnome 3 wont work in my virtualbox. Both gnome classic and gnome look exactly identical. The version of my virtualbox is: 4.1.2_ Ubuntu r38459 The 3D acceleration is on in the virtualbox and the Guest Additions is installed in the virtualbox from the software center. Obviously, the graphic card driver is installed on the main Ubuntu system I am using with my laptop. (although the post-release updates can't be installed for whatever reason) Gnome shell is installed from the software center in the virtualbox. Now the issue is that the gnome and gnome classic look like just the same. Here is an image of what gnome looks like (so does gnome classic too....so I am only posting one image): What causes this issue? By the way....I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome fallback session.

  • After the upgrading to 13.10, I can't input Japanese and Chinese in Emacs

    - by oda
I have just upgraded Ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10. It seems iBus have been made big changes. Then I just go to system setting - text entry settings - add "Chinese pinyin" and "Japanese anty" input method. It works well when I input Chinese or Japanese in terminal or .txt file. But when I want to input Chinese and Japanese in Emacs. Even though I have enable ibus-mode in the buffer and change to Chinese pinyin or Japanese anty input method. It just output the English word. Below is the ibus configure in .emacs.By the way, It works well before I upgrade Ubuntu to 13.10 and Emacs to 24.3.1. (add-to-list 'load-path (concat my-emacs-path "/ibus-el-0.3.2")) ;;(setq ibus-python-shell-command-name "python2.7") (require 'ibus) ;; Turn on ibus-mode automatically after loading .emacs (add-hook 'after-init-hook 'ibus-mode-on) (setq ibus-cursor-color '("red" "blue" "limegreen"))

  • Reflection, invoke

    - by Alaa'
Hi, I have a dll file, and i took an object from it and called the functions inside this dll by the object, like this way: Command testClass = (Command)assembly.CreateInstance(creatObject); testClass.Execute(); anyway, the i used reflection from some reason. so i need to use invoke function & set values for variables, then calling the basic function Execute. Before: i wrote the following: object returnValue = objectType.GetMethod("setValues").Invoke(classObject, arguments); testClass.Execute(); but it wasnt useful for me. i used the following: object returnValue = objectType.GetMethod("setValues").Invoke(classObject, arguments); object returnValue1 = objectType.GetMethod("Execute").Invoke(classObject, null); i just want to ask if this is right, to calling the execute in this way, and by the way it works! Thank you.

  • How to use parameter with LIKE in Sql Server Compact Edition

    - by Colin
I'm trying to parameterise a search query that uses the LIKE keyword with a wildcard. The original sql has dynamic sql like this: "AND JOB_POSTCODE LIKE '" + isPostCode + "%' " So I've tried this instead, but I get a FormatException: "AND JOB_POSTCODE LIKE @postcode + '%' " Edit: I guess the FormatException isn't going to be coming from Sql Server CE, so as requested, here is how I set the parameter in my C# code. The parameter is set in code like this: command.Parameters.Add("@postcode", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = isPostCode; I also tried: "AND JOB_POSTCODE LIKE @postcode" with command.Parameters.Add("@postcode", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = isPostCode + "%"; but that doesn't return any results. Can anyone advise how to use parameters in this search sql?

  • How can I rename a VB6 executable?

    - by parsley72
I'm trying to automate a VB6 build where different apps are built from the same source by: 1. Changing "Conditional Compilation Arguments". 2. "Make Project" to a different executable name. I can do part of this on the command line: VB6.EXE /m Project.VBP /d BUILD_OTHER_APP=1 but the executable still has the name "Project.exe". If I rename the .EXE it stops working (doesn't seem to run). VB6 doesn't seem to have a command line option to set the executable name and I can't get round this problem with renaming. I'm using VB6 on Win7 32-bit.

  • SSH'ing to my machine attaches an existing screen session and detaching it ends my SSH session

    - by jsplaine
ssh'ing to my Ubuntu machine automatically attaches an existing screen session and detaching ends my ssh session What I want is to be able to ssh to my Ubuntu machine without automatically attaching to the screen session on that machine. Or at least, I should be able to to detach from that screen session w/o ending my ssh session .. right? Doesn't seem to work. This so that I can attempt to run firefox --display <whichever one is being forwarded to my ssh session>, so that I can debug a website that the remote Ubuntu machine is running (via localhost). Best case scenario is that I could just remote-desktop to my Ubuntu machine. But it's not set up to allow remote-desktop, and I see no way to set it up remotely via shell/ssh. Also, it sounds like you need a static IP in order to remote desktop to an Ubuntu machine (so I keep reading).

  • How can I view multiple git diffs side by side in vim

    - by Pete Hodgson
I'd like to be able to run a command that opens up a git diff in vim, with a tab for each file in the diff set. So if for example I've changed files foo.txt and bar.txt in my working tree and I ran the command I would see vim open with two tabs. The first tab would contain a side-by-side diff between foo.txt in my working tree and foo.txt in the repository, and the second tab would contain a side-by-side diff for bar.txt. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Is LightDM is broken? Autologin works

    - by Ben
I recently upgraded my Mythbuntu box to 11.10. LightDM worked for a while and then I configured autologin on my user account. After some time, I've removed some packages to lean down the system. Now when I log out (from either Unity or Gnome Shell) I lose the X session, LightDM doesn't start back up. If I disable autologin through /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf I get no login screen & no X. As I said, autologin works and gives me a Ubuntu Classic desktop. This is the only reference in dmesg to lightdm; [ 17.351023] type=1400 audit(1329530135.420:19): apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_load" name="/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper" pid=1097 comm="apparmor_parser" Can anyone help?
