  Hello: I am new to the Amazon EC2 services and I am planning to host a Windows based vm on Amazon. I have lot of fuzziness about AMIs on Amazon. So my first question would be, am I be able to install softwares and frameworks(e.g. Silverlight, .NET, etc) on a existing Windows instance that I select?   I'm pretty sure the options consist of Just don't do it (use a nice open standard file format). Not great when someone sends you something. Translate the format on Windows. I think you need Publisher, the viewer won't even print. But you can download a trial version for a once off (been there, done that). Submit the file for online translation to PDF. www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/ Use a Windows VM, wine, crossover office, Win4Lin, or otherwise run Publisher "under" linux. What I really want to do is convert it to something nicer natively under Linux.

• POST variables to web server?

  Hello I've been trying several things from Google to POST data to a web server, but none of them work: I'm still stuck at how to convert the variables into the request, considering that the second variable is an SQL query so it has spaces. Does someone know the correct way to use a WebClient to POST data? I'd rather use WebClient because it requires less code than HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse. • C/C++ Control Structure Limitations?

  I have heard of a limitation in VC++ (not sure which version) on the number of nested if statements (somewhere in the ballpark of 300). The code was of the form: if (a) ... else if (b) ... else if (c) ... ... I was surprised to find out there is a limit to this sort of thing, and that the limit is so small. I'm not looking for comments about coding practice and why to avoid this sort of thing altogether. Here's a list of things that I'd imagine could have some limitation: Number of functions in a scope (global, class, or namespace). Number of expressions in a single statement (e.g., compound conditionals). Number of cases in a switch. Number of parameters to a function. Number of classes in a single hierarchy (either inheritance or containment). What other control structures/language features have limits such as this? Do the language standards say anything about these limits (perhaps minimum requirements for an implementation)? Has anyone run into a particular language limitation like this with a particular compiler/implementation? EDIT: Please note that the above form of if statements is indeed "nested." • Problem loading scripts from Ajax Response

  The problem is I am using get_info() to make a ajax call to Result.lasso and paste the response in div with id 'test'.I am unable to use the sendForm() function from the page where i am calling the get_info(). I have also tried using different versions of jQuery 1.1.1.3 is working fine.But i am facing the problem while using higher versions of jquery. • How can I force a jQuery faded-in user control to remain after click events?

  I have a basic page to which I'm adding an uploader control based on Bulk Uploader at c-sharpcorner.com and the control is in a jQuery-faded div based on yesdegisn The Bulk Uploader has two server side event handlers for two buttons--Add and Remove. After clicking these buttons, the fade disappears and you're back to the basic page--if the user needs to add more files, this is not desirable. The ArrayList of files added to a ListBox is maintained, but I have to click the "fade-in" link (LinkButton id="lnkDocumentUpload") to display this window again. I also need the control to POST to UploadPost.aspx, and it doesn't work either. Clicking the upload button(<asp:Button ID="btnUpload" runat="server" />) has the same behavior described above--fade disappears, data is retained, and no POST. I've surrounded the control with <form id="frmUpload" action="~/UploadPost.aspx"> ... <asp:Button ID="btnUpload" runat="server" Text="Upload"/> </form> A LinkButton activates the fade in jQuery via $("#lnkDocumentUpload").click(function() { centerPopup(); loadPopup(); });

  a requirement was sent to me below: API should be in the form of static library. company xxx will link the library into a third party application to prevent any possible exposure of the code(dll) could they mean an import library? An import library is a library that automates the process of loading and using a dynamic library. On Windows, this is typically done via a small static library (.lib) of the same name as the dynamic library (.dll). The static library is linked into the program at compile time, and then the functionality of the dynamic library can effectively be used as if it were a static library. this might be what they might be eluding to.....I am not sure how to make this in vs2008 . Additional facts: I have a static lib that i use in my current application. Now, I have to convert my app that uses that static lib into an import lib so that they can use a third party prog to access the API's they providede me which in turn will use that static lib i am using. I hope I am clearly explaining this. I am just not sure how to go about it in vs2008. I am looking for specific steps to do this. I already have the coding done. Just need to convert it into the form they are asking and I have to provide the API they want. Other than that then I need to create a test prog which will act as that third party prog so I can make sure my import library works.

• symfony doctrine build-sql error

  I have some big problems with symfony and doctrine at the beginning of a new project. I have created database diagram with mysql workbench, inserted the sql into phpmyadmin and then I've tried symfony doctrine:build-schema to generate the YAML schema. It generates a wrong schema (relations don't have on delete/on update) and after this I've tried symfony doctrine:build --sql and symfony doctrine:insert-sql The insert-sql statement generates error (can't create table ... failing query alter table add constraint ....), so I've decided to take a look over the generated sql and I've found out some differences between the sql generated from mysql workbench (which works perfect, including relations) and the sql generated by doctrine. I'll be short from now: I have to tables, EVENT and FORM and a 1 to n relation (each event may have multiple forms) so the correct constraint (generated with workbench) is ALTER TABLE `form` ADD CONSTRAINT `fk_form_event1` FOREIGN KEY (`event_id`) REFERENCES `event` (`id`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE; doctrine generated statement is: ALTER TABLE event ADD CONSTRAINT event_id_form_event_id FOREIGN KEY (id) REFERENCES form(event_id); It's totally reversed and I am sure here is the error. What should I do? It's also correct like this?

  I have a client who lectures, and wants to sell spots to his lecture online. I would preferably like to set him up with a solution that allows me to collect billing information on his site. My experience with e-commerce is in using solutions like Authorize.net, however this does not seem cost effective since I can't imagine he's making a huge profit off of this. I'm afraid he would lose money in the cost of using Authorize.net (or any payment gateway for the matter). I could use google checkout or paypal express, but this would require me to leave his site (although with google checkout, it looks like, from a glance, that I could just submit to their form from my server, and likely with paypal as well, but I don't know if this is against their TOS). What is the most cost-effective solution for accepting credit card payments in this situation?

Page 1 may have 2 text fields that can be customized, page 2 may have 3 text fields, a slider to define text size, and a drop down list to pick a color, and page 3 may have five text fields that can all be customized. All three pages (and all form elements, 12 in this example) are associated with 1 product. So when I create the product, could i add a button to create a page for that product, then within the page i can add a button to add a new form element field? I'm still somewhat new to this, so my db structure may not be ideal. i'd appreciate any suggestions and feedback! Could someone point me toward some information, tutorials, documentation, ideas, suggestions, on how I can implement this?

• Arrow keys and changing control's focus hang the application

  I have a usercontrol that contains a FlowLayoutPanel (topdown flow) with a bunch of radiobuttons. The control exposes a CheckedChanged event that fires whenever one of the radiobuttons's check changed. My form contains the usercontrol and a textbox. I subscribe the usercontrol's CheckedChanged event and depending on which radiobutton gets checked, I either disable the textbox or put a focus inside the textbox. All this works fine with mouseclick when changing the radiobutton's check state. However, this will hang indefinitely when using the arrow keys. I don't understand why the difference. The following are steps to reproduce the behavior I'm seeing: Create a usercontrol and drop a FlowLayoutPanel control and set its FlowDirection = TopDown. Then add two radiobuttons to the FlowLayoutPanel. Provide an event handler in the usercontrol public event EventHandler CheckedChanged { add { radioButton2.CheckedChanged += value; } remove { radioButton2.CheckedChanged -= value; } } Create a windows form and drop the above user control. Add a textbox and set Enabled to False. Subscribe to the usercontrol's CheckedChanged event as follows private void userControl11_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { textBox1.Select(); } Run. Notice that if you use the mouse to click between the radiobuttons, thing works fine; but it will crash if you use the up/down arrow keys.

• Grant relay to servers based on AD security group membership

  We're moving our relay from an Exchange 2003 server to an Exchange 2010 server. I was hoping the "Grant or deny relay permissions to specific users or groups" option would still be available in some form, but I can't find out how to do it. I've read up on recieve connectors and so far I can't get it to work. I have edited the security on the Recieve Connector to allow the following extended rights to the group and added computer accounts to that group: Accept Routing Headers Bypass Anti-spam Submit to Server Accept any Sender Accept any Recipient Then I suddenly realised while testing... How would the receive connector resolve the permission to a particular AD object, maybe a reverse DNS lookup? What I'd like to know is if what I'm trying to achieve is possible, and how it would be possible. I would rather not revert to an IP-based list as this is not as manageable, and I'm trying to avoid creating static IPs/reservations for a number of workstations that would otherwise not need them.

  I searched and tried a lot, but I can't accomplish it as I want.. so here's my problem. class Moving < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :movingresources, :dependent => :destroy has_many :resources, :through => :movingresources end class Movingresource < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :moving belongs_to :resource end class Resource < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :movingresources has_many :movings, :through => :movingresources end Movingresources contains additional fields, like "quantity". We're working on the views for 'bill'. Thanks to formtastic to simplify the whole relationship thing by just writing <%= form.input :workers, :as => :check_boxes %> and i get a real nice checkbox list. But what I haven't found out so far is: How can i use the additional fields from 'movingresource', next or under each checkbox my desired fields from that model? I saw different approaches, mainly with manually looping through an array of objects and creating the appropriate forms, using :for in a form.inputs part, or not. But none of those solutions were clean (e.g. worked for the edit view but not for new because the required objects were not built or generated and generating them caused a mess). I want to know your solutions for this! :-)

  This may be a bit winded because I am new to wpf. I have created a partial class for an entity in my L2S class that is primarily used for validation. It implements the onchanging and onvalidate methods. I am trying to use the MVVM pattern, and in a window/view I have set the datacontext in the xaml: <Window.DataContext> <vm:StartViewModel /> </Window.DataContext> when a user leaves a required field in the view blank, the onchanging event of the partial class is fired when I close the form, not when I save the data. So, if a user leaves the textbox blank, the old value is retained and the onchaging method is fired, but I have no idea how to alert the user of the resulting error. here is my onchanging code in the partial class: partial void Ondocument_titleChanging(string value) { if (value.Length == 0) throw new Exception("Document title is required."); if (value.Length > 256) throw new Exception("Document title cannot be longer than 256 characters."); } throwing an exception doesn't notify the user of the error. it just allows the form to close and rejects the changes to the textbox. hope this makes sense... edit: this example was taken from Scott Guthries article here: http://aspalliance.com/1427_LINQ_to_SQL_Part_5__Binding_UI_using_the_ASPLinqDataSource_Control.5

This works as follows: User clicks "Order now" in the windows app App uploads a file with POST to a PHP script The script immediately calls the PHP mail() function (order is not stored in a db) This works fine most of the time. However, sometimes a big delay occurs (several days). Customers calls why the product has not yet been delivered. They say the delay does not occur in their network (impossible). But they do confirm that the e-mail is first seen in their mail server on May 26, which is 7 days after the mail has been composed. The order is marked with the timestamp of the user's local PC, which also matches May 19 (so it's not a PC clock problem) It's also interesting to see that all delayed mails (orders were placed on different days) come in at once. So I suddenly receive 14 e-mail in my mailbox from various days. Any idea were this delay may be introduced? Could there be a bug in my PHP code that causes this? (I cannot believe I can introduce a loop of 7 days in my PHP code)

  Hi people, I'm trying to validate an age field in a form but I'm having some problem. First I tried to make sure that the field will not be send empty. • Exception calling remote SOAP call from thread

  This is an extension / next step of this question I asked a few minutes ago. I've a Delphi application with a main form and a thread. Every X seconds the thread makes a web services request for a remote object. It then posts back to the main form which handles updating the UI with the new information. I was previously using a TTimer object in my thread, and when the TTimer callback function ran, it ran in the context of the main thread (but the remote web services request did work). This rather defeated the purpose of the separate thread, and so I now have a simple loop and sleep routine in my thread's Execute function.
