  • how to load an image to a grid using pygame, instead of just using a fill color?

    I am trying to create a "map of a city" using pygame. I want to be able to put images of buildings in specific grid coords rather than just filling them in with a color. This is how I am creating this map grid: def clear(): for r in range(rows): for c in range(rows): if r%3 == 1 and c%3 == 1: color = brown; grid[r][c] = 1; else: color = white; grid[r][c] = 0; pygame.draw.rect(screen, color, [(margin+width)*c+margin, (margin+height)*r+margin, width, height]) pygame.display.flip(); Now how do I put images of buildings in those brown colored grids at those specific locations? I've tried some of the samples online but can't seem to get them to work. Any help is appreciated. If anyone have a good source for free sprites that I can use for pygame, please let me know.     The error i'm getting is in the fillPayroll() method in the while loop where it says payroll.add(employee). The error says I can't invoke add() on an array type Person but the Employee class inherits from Person so I thought this would be possible.     I am trying to implement a naive bayseian approach to find the topic of a given document or stream of words. Is there are Naive Bayesian approach that i might be able to look up for this ? Also, i am trying to improve my dictionary as i go along. Initially, i have a bunch of words that map to a topics (hard-coded). Depending on the occurrence of the words other than the ones that are already mapped. And depending on the occurrences of these words i want to add them to the mappings, hence improving and learning about new words that map to topic. And also changing the probabilities of words. How should i go about doing this ? Is my approach the right one ? Which programming language would be best suited for the implementation ?

  • Best way to pass image to server?

    I have an SL3 application that needs to be able to pass an image to the server, and then the server will generate a PDF file with the image in it, and display it to the user. What I already have in place are the following: (1) Code to convert image to byte array (2) Code to generate PDF file with image The main problem that I am running into is the following: In order to bypass the pop-up blocker, which is a requirement for my application, I am using the following code: var button = new NavigationButton(); button.NavigateUri = new Uri("http://localhost:3616/PrintReport.aspx?ReportIndex=11&ActionType=Get&ReportIdentifier=" + reportIdentifier.ToString() + ""); button.TargetName = "_blank"; button.PerformClick(); Initially, I would pass the image to a WCF web service (as a byte array), and then "navigate" to the ASP.NET page that would display the report. However, if I do this, then I can not use my custom HyperlinkButton class, and, certain browsers, including Safari, will block a new window from opening up. Therefore, it appears that the only option is to use the HyperlinkButton class. What I need to be able to do is to somehow pass the image, as a byte array or some other data type, to the server, such that it can temporarily store the image, even if it is in a server variable, and then immediately retrieve it when I navigate to the PrintReport.aspx page. If I upload the image to an ASP.NET form and then use the HyperlinkButton class to navigate to the PrintReport page, it doesn't work, as the app navigates to the PrintReport page before the system has finished uploading the image. I can't pass it to a web service, as that would require that I navigate to the PrintReport.aspx page in the callback code of the web method that I would be passing the image to, and the HyperlinkButton will not allow that, based on security rules. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Chris

    Does anyone know how to make a map overlayitem draggable so I can press and hold it and drag it across the map. I am trying to duplicate the draggable icon behavior that's available on the iPhone. One developer suggested a possible solution is to detect a touch event, get rid of the existing overlay item, draw your own copy of the icon where the overlay item had been, manually animate that as the user drags, and then put the overlay item where the user drops it (getting rid of your manually-drawn icon). Does anyone have sample java code to do this Android 2.1? This would be much appreciated.

Note : 'code_summary_id' is define as column in code_set_detail table, and define as primary key in code_summary table. To sum-up, I would like define 'code_summary_id' as primary key in code_summary table, and map 'code_summary_id' in code_set_detail table. How to define a primary key in a table, and also map this key to another table ?

  • java BufferedReader specific length returns NUL characters

    I have a TCP socket client receiving messages (data) from a server. messages are of the type length (2 bytes) + data (length bytes), delimited by STX & ETX characters. I'm using a bufferedReader to retrieve the two first bytes, decode the length, then read again from the same bufferedReader the appropriate length and put the result in a char array. most of the time, I have no problem, but SOMETIMES (1 out of thousands of messages received), when attempting to read (length) bytes from the reader, I get only part of it, the rest of my array being filled with "NUL" characters. I imagine it's because the buffer has not yet been filled. char[] bufLen = new char[2]; _bufferedReader.read(bufLen); int len = decodeLength(bufLen); char[] _rawMsg = new char[len]; _bufferedReader.read(_rawMsg); return _rawMsg; I solved the problem in several iterative ways: first I tested the last char of my array: if it wasn't ETX I would read chars from the bufferedReader one by one until I would reach ETX, then start over my regular routine. the consequence is that I would basically DROP one message. then, in order to still retrieve that message, I would find the first occurence of the NUL char in my "truncated" message, read & store additional characters one at a time until I reached ETX, and append them to my "truncated" messages, confirming length is ok. it works also, but I'm really thinking there's something I could do better, like checking if the total number of characters I need are available in the buffer before reading it, but can't find the right way to do it... any idea / pointer ? thanks !

  • user table with javaDB and Hibernate from within grails

    let's see if I can ask this in an understandable way... I started with grails and created a domain class called user. As far as I understand, Hibernate is used to map this domain class to the database. This works pretty fine with hsqldb. Now I tried to switch to javaDB and get an error message because the table is called "user" (which seems to be a reserved word for javaDB). So a statement like create table user ... will result in an error message. create table "user" ... works, but Hibernate seems not put put the table name in quotes. How can I configure Hibernate to use quotes in order to make it work with my table name? PS: yes, I know, I could map the domain class to another table name... :-)

  • dynamic check_box using field_for in rails

    I have a many-to-many relationship with a link box, and I want to pull those models together into one form so I can update from the same page. I'm really struggling with getting the check_box to even show all the elements of my array - I've scoured the net and been working on this literally all day, and I'm finding it difficult to apply the information I'm reading to my problem. I'm also extremely new to RoR and I've been following a bit of an outdated video tutorial (pre 2.0) so apologies for my code. So far, I've got it to output only one key pair in the array (the last one) - although outside the form, the code used in the tutorial works exactly how it should. Thats of little use though! Host is the model for which the main form is for, and Billing is the outside model that I'm trying to add to the form. This is the code that works outside of the form from the tutorial: <% for billing in @billings -%> <%= check_box_tag('billing_title[]', billing.id, @host.billings.collect {|obj| obj.id}.include?(billing.id))%> <%= billing.title %><br /> <% end -%> I just need to know how to make it work inside the form. Naively I assumed the former would perform better than the later because gL is precomputed whereas G_of 1L has to be computed 100,000 times (at least it appears that way).

    Is there a Pool class for worker threads, similar to the multiprocessing module's Pool class? I like for example the easy way to parallelize a map function def long_running_func(p): c_func_no_gil(p) p = multiprocessing.Pool(4) xs = p.map(long_running_func, range(100)) however I would like to do it without the overhead of creating new processes. I know about the GIL. However, in my usecase, the function will be an IO-bound C function for which the python wrapper will release the GIL before the actual function call. Do I have to write my own threading pool?

    Hi, I have a one-to-many mapping between a parent entity and child entities. Now I need to find the number of children associated with each parent for a list of parents. I am trying to do this with HQL but I am not sure how I can get the list of parents in there. Also, I don't know how I can return the entity itself and not just its ID. My current HQL query is: select new map(parent.id as parentId, count(*) as childCount) from Parent parent left join parent.children children group by parent.id but this only returns the ID and does not filter on specific parents. EDIT Based on Pascal's answer I have modified the query to select new map(parent as parent, count(elements(parent.children)) as childCount) from Parent parent group by parent That does work, but is prohibitively slow: 30 seconds instead of 400 ms on the same database.

    I'm working on a basic garden logging application which consists of gardens, plants and planted plants. Each user has one or many gardens, plants are master definitions, and a planted plant can be thought of as an instance of a plant in a specific user's garden. In my routes.rb file I have the following: map.resources :gardens do |gardens| gardens.resources :planted_plants, :has_many => :plant_log_entries, :collection => { :filter => :post, :choose_garden => :post} gardens.resources :garden_log_entries end map.resources :plants This makes sense to me when retrieving a list of planted_plants in a user's garden, but I'd like to create a planted_plant record from the index of plant. The problem is, a user can have multiple gardens. How can I create a new form for a planted_plant that allows the user to specify which garden should be used? The current route requires a garden_id - which makes sense for retrieval, but I'd like to supply that as a parameter for creation. Thanks in advance for any help!

What are the recommended alternatives? Is there something besides Expression.Sql that would perform the same operation? I tried Expression.Like but couldn't figure out how to combine the first and last names. Should I map a FullName property to the formula "FirstName + ' ' + LastName" in the mapping class? Should I create a read only FullName property on the domain object then map it to a column?

I have used a pre-built in line AJAX validation library which uses jQuery.
