• I cannot log in after theme change

  After changing the gtk-theme in the gnome tweak took I was taken out of the session to the login screen and now I cannot log in. I can only log in using the guest account. So in the grub menu I selected the recovery mode and in the resulting menu I selected root-drop to root shell prompt. Once there I did a couple of things I've found in several pages and in the forums. 1.gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme This is what I got: (process:642):WARNING: Command line 'dbus-launch –autolunch=4438d024dd45ef7fb2d3f4ab0000000f –binary-syntax --close-stderr' exited with non-zero exit status 1: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n and nothing changes 2.gconftool-2 --type=string -s /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme Radiance with this I was trying to change the gtk theme to the Radiance one. No strange message this time but it did not work either. I still cannot log in. Any ideas please?? sssuizaaa

• Right-click In Ubuntu 11.10 Acts Too Fast - No Fix Yet, Any Workaround?

  When I click the right mouse button (anywhere, be it - desktop, browser, console, etc.), the right-click context menu pops up so quickly that the very option in the menu gets clicked. This happens to often to take it easy. This issue has been brought up a couple of times on Ask Ubuntu, but with no fix whatsoever. This is a very low priority issue for the Ubuntu team I believe? (How could they?!) Is there at least a workaround for the issue? Ubuntu is almost unusable for me as it is now. PS: I have a new mouse. So, please don't go about suggesting that I get a new one - - everything's working fine on Windows 7, so should be the case with ubuntu 11.10, which it is not.

• Is there a way to specify a CSS3 transition to occur only on :hover and when returning from hover, not on every event? [closed]

  You could define the transition on the :hover event, which causes the browser to render only the effect into the hover and not out of it. a:hover { transition... } Using scale as an example, an image being scaled up would scale up on hover, but go straight back down without any transition when the cursor leaves the image. Or, you can set the transition on the element directly: a { transition... } Which by definition means any change that effects the scale of the element such as any developer set styles will work, but also the user zooming in and out the page, will cause there to be a transition. All the tutorials being spewed onto the internet at the moment point to using the latter, but wouldn't one consider this a usability flaw for anyone wanting to resize the page or taking any other action that may cause similar scenarios? Pages with large amounts of transitional hover scaling can go pretty mental if you zoom in and out of them.

• can't open youtube or vimeo

  I can't open Youtube.com on computer with lubuntu and mint. I see that my flash works properly on other sites. Problem is in for example on youtube (yming.com loading without endless) and vimeo. I tried to use firefox and chromium. I thought that it would be problem with dns (I have dns from DHCP - opendns) so I changed to google dns but it didn't help to solve problem. When I use text browser - Links these site are opening well in text mode. I think that the problem is with flash or java. On other computer with windows connected to the same network these sites are being opened without problem. I am on the point that I don't know what to do next, because I tried to install and uninstall flash several times. I tried Flash-Aid as well.

• (My) Sun Ray 3i

  Last week, some Sun Ray devices were shown at the LASDEC exhibition. Afterward, they were brought back to the Aoyama Center, but not all of them found a place to be stored. So, two days ago, Iwasaki-san, one of the co-workers I've been close to (and who was at the exhibition), put a Sun Ray 3i (all-in-one with 21.5" screen) on my (shared) desk. Yay! I managed to get a Japanese keyboard, and now I can access my card and cardless sessions from Germany, and the performance is just great, as good as when I work from home in Hamburg. That's the way my deskt looks now,almost as messy as my desk in Hamburg: And my back is very grateful.

• Ubuntu 11.10 has some problem with GUI

  Once power on the system, after some time the GUI of all most all window has changed (look at the image). Into thunderbird all text are overlapped and display mashed up. Into Geany color all tabs and code are changed. I need to close those apps and reopen it to view it correctly. I have 1 GB of RAM. I am new to ubuntu. can any body help me what it the problem? and how to solve it? I have read the question Weird Ubuntu 11.10 GUI problem , but it does not solve my problem. Thanks

  As Apple wo lawsuits against Motorola and Samsung with the so called overscroll patent, i am asking myself what the legal consequences of releasing a APP with such a feature are. I think if one releases the APP in IOS it would be okay, but what happens in android or Windows? Am i getting sued ? What happens if i am writing an APP for the Browser? • Disposing of ContentManager increases memory usage

  I'm trying to wrap my head around how memory management works in XNA 4.0 I've created a screen management test and when I close a screen, the ContentManager created by that screen is unloaded. I have used ANTS Memory Manager to look at how the memory usage is altered when I do this, and it gives me some results which makes me scratch my head. The game starts with loading two textures (435kB and 48,3kB) which puts the usage at about 61MB. Then, when I delete the screen and runs Unload on the ContentManager, the memory usage drops to 56,5MB but instantly after goes up to 64,8MB. Am I doing something wrong or is this usual for XNA games? Do I have to dispose of everything the ContentManager loads seperatly or do I need to do something more to the ContentManager?   First When i downloaded java from official website i got confused how to install it. den i searched it on software center and i got it. but wen i install it, it starts but instantly stops and the line highlighting the installation status in progress tab doesn't move forward.den i searched on internet and tried installing it by terminal but he terminal says that u have to first configure something that i dont know but it tells me to run this command-"sudo dpkg-configure -a" and when i run this command the terminal process stops in the middle and even after leaving it for about an hour it doesn't proceed further.. after that when i press the close button of the terminal if shows that some tasks are in progress and closing the terminal would...bla bla bla... so i am greatly confused because even other software's like gimp image editor and all are not getting installed.. please help me..!!

  In command line I wrote: michael@ubuntu:~$ firefox Firefox launched. Command prompt ($) disappeared. Then I pressed ^+z. The result was: [1]+ Stopped firefox Well, Firefox really stopped. It did not react anyhow. So, I could not close it by pressing the cross of the window. By the way, the menu items 'Tools', and 'Help' somehow showed some signs of life. They showed drop-down lists, but nothing more (no reaction to inner menu items). Well, I could not end Firefox through System Monitor. Could you comment on this case: what happened after pressing ^+z?

  Possible Duplicate: How do I upgrade to the development release (aka. Ubuntu+1)? I was suggested these commands when I searched for it on Google: sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade But, I don't know whether that works or not. So my question is: How to upgrade 12.04 to the 12.10 daily build? How to rollback to 12.04 if the daily build breaks? You might ask me why I want to try something like that... it's probably because I want to check out all the new upgrades that have been done in quantal. Another bonus question: If I select the "precise-proposed" updates in Update Manager, how close will my 12.04 come off to the 12.10? Are these precise proposed updates same as "quantal-proposed"? What are the differences?

E.g like: LibreOffice | I use Google Doc etc. RhythmBox | I use Google Play Music Thunderbird | I use Gmail, don't like client Videos | Watch online Messaging | Hangouts And other softwares like Remmina Client, BitTorrent Client. Can I simply remove it in Ubuntu Software Centre? I like my Laptop clean and having unmessy software that I never use. I normally use Chromium Browser to do all the stuff, I think I am heavy user of Google, and love the simplicity of Ubuntu. Lol! Can anyone tell or guide me? Thanks!

• Neither suspend nor hibernate in 12.10 lubuntu - is there a workaround by scripts?

  I've neither suspend to ram nor to disk in 12.10 lubuntu (i suspect there might be a kernel issue but i'm only a simple user). Also, the xfce powermanagement which comes with lubuntu by default does not have any effect. Even it doesn't lock the screen when i set this in the preferences: What do when close the lid. So, on a portable that's annoying a lot. Is there some way to workaround by scripts in 'etc/pm/*.d'? TIA for any idea.

  When a box-shadow is applied to an element the corners are less "thick" than the middle because they don't have shadow on both sides. If the "banner" is at the top of a page you can spread it and shift it up but that doesn't work for the middle of the page as you can see the top. • suspend error on 14.04 LTS

  I've looked around and seems like various problems around suspend are wide spreaded for 14.04 release, nevertheless I haven't seen exactly my problem reported, nor my laptop model mentioned. So, the problem. When I press sleep button system seems to be going into suspend, i.e. screen goes black, it stops responding on the keyboard and wireless LEDs turn off, however the power LED doesn't go into suspend state and CPU fan also keeps spinning. But unlike the other problem described here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1315435 when I close the lid and reopen it - system wakes up and goes back to normal locked screen state, so reboot is not needed. System details: This is a clean freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04, 32bit Laptop Dell D630 kernel 3.13.0-34-generic

• Upgrade to 11.10 left me with Kmail not working

  On my way from 10.10 to 12.04 I chose to do the step by step (11.04 then 11.10 then 12.04) because I could not figure if I should do that or a direct install of 12.04LTS. After the first step (11.04) all was well. The next day I upgraded to 11.10. Now I seem to have lost my data in KOrganizer and all of my email history in KMail. KMail still has my email accounts but my tree structure of folders is missing as is all of the emails that should be there. Also, when KMail opens I get the following: KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection. Clicking OK closes KMail. KAlarm appears OK and my browser history is still in place as are various data files. What to do??

• Youtube controls (sound, etc) not functional in full-screen mode: is that normal?

  When playing youtube videos full-screen, I can't mouse-interact with the player controls, except for the slider (only single-clicking on the video works as play/pause, but not double-click, interestingly, so the only way to leave full-screen mode is via Escape). Is this behavior known? What can I do about it? I'm on Ubuntu 12.04, using Google's Chrome browser. P.S. If that matters, some other flash players I've tried also display the same problem, so this may be an issue with Google-supplied Flash plugin. Thanks in advance.
