    Can I have two independent Connection servers attached to the same vCenter server? Here's my scenario. I'm setting up View 4 to provide desktops to two seperate Windows domains that are on different IP subnets seperated by a firewall. One cluster of physical servers, one vCenter server, linked clones. As I understand it View Connection server has to be a member of a Windows domain in order for quickprep to work. So the way to provide desktops to both Windows domains is to have a Connection server in each one right? Then open ports in the firewall so the Connection server from the other subnet can communicate with vCenter. Any reason why this won't work? Or is there a better way to accomplish it?

  • how to copy sql server database on same server

    I've got a SQL Server 2008 and want to make a copy of a database so I've got a 2nd Version of the database for testing on the same server. The database copy wizard is not able to copy the database, it always sends funny error Messages about missing objects (using SMO copy). When I try to make a backup and restore it under a different database name it still keeps the file names of the original database and overrides this (crashing the original database). So how do I copy a SQL database? Shutdown SQL Server, copy the physical files and attach them? Maybe a command line tool for database copy? Shouldn't there be an easy way to make a copy?

    I'm stuck how best to configure disk array. We have Hp P2000 G3 disk array with 24 SAS physical disks 300Gb each. We need to configure this array got 2 copies of PostgreSQL 9.2 because two different system. As we know it's recommended to store database and transaction logs(pg_xlog) files on separate disks. So we must setup 4 logical disk: 2 for transaction logs with RAID 1 2 for database with RAID 10 Is this right scheme of distribution? Or may be it is best to just make one big RAID 10 with 4 logical disks?

  • Get email address from OpenId using Jboss/Seam

    I'm using the org.jboss.seam.security.openid.OpenId class to login user's to my seam webapp. Currently I'm saving the validatedId (openid.getValidatedId()) into the database, and asking the user to provide their own email address and first and last name after logging in. I'm using Google, Yahoo, AOL, and MyOpenID for the openId Providers. Is there any way to retrieve the email address and or first/last name of the user without having them enter this in manually?

  • apache and ajp performance

    I have an apache sitting in front of two tomcat app servers(one on the same physical server, the other on a different one) that does time consuming work(0.5 sec to 10sec per request). The apache http server is getting killed by an average of 1 to 2 concurrent requests per second. both Server spec is about 2GB of RAM. Is there a way to optimize apache to handle the load? any advise is welcome.     Is it possible to connect to a SQL Server Express 2008 database in ASP.NET with a server name of (local) like "server=(local);integrated security=SSPI;database=DBNAME"? I'm working with another developer on a project and it's getting annoying having to have 2 different version of web.config because he is using SQL Server 2008 and (local) works, but I can't seem to get it to work with SQL Server 2008 Express locally. The database is located on the same computer as the .NET code in case that matters. Thanks.

  • What's an easy way to shut down a computer that I'm connected to via RDP

    I have a secondary machine on my local network that I usually use via RDP. Most of the time, it's on 24/7, but there are times when I may want to shut it down from the RDP client machine. The shutdown and restart options aren't available from the Windows XP start menu when you connect to a machine via RDP, so how can I shut this machine off without actually going to the physical machine? Also note that this computer currently doesn't have a monitor attached to it, which is partly why I want to be able to shut it down over RDP.

  • Hyper-V shutdown/start up host causing issues in VMs

    I have a single physical host, running 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, all fully updated. On that host I am running 3 clients, a DC, a web server and a SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1. All are running on Windows Server 2008 R2, again all fully patched. Generally all is fine, but sometimes and not repeatably, when I shutdown the host properly, which suspends the Clients, when it all comes up again, SQL Server is no longer running and the IIS App Pool I am running the website in needs to be told which account to run in again! Any ideas!?

The /VMNFS/ folder is present on linux box, from where script is run, and is mapped to the machine into which i am ssh'ing, as an NFS at /vmfs/volumes/VMNFS/. The second cd command doesn't work, neither with symbolic path name nor physical pathname.   • VMware two vSwitches Guests can't communicate between them

    I have some servers in this configuration: And I am not able, from VMGuest1, to ping either VMGuest3 or VMGuest4. I can, however, ping Host1 and Host2, which are attached to pSwitch1. The behavior is the same with VMGuest3 or 4 trying to ping VMGuest 1 or 2. I don't have promiscuity enabled for any of these switches, nor do I have a bridge set up inside ESXi for the virtual switches. I know that one of these options is usually necessary when trying to get connectivity between two virtual switches. These switches are connected, however, through their respective physical switches which are bridged together. Ping just times out, arp request looks like this: [root@vmguest1:~]# arp -a vmguest3 vmguest3.example.com (1.2.3.4) at <incomplete> on eth0 [root@vmguest1:~]# arp -a host1 host1.example.com (1.2.3.5) at 00:0C:64:97:1C:FF [ether] on eth0 VMGuest1 can reach hosts on pSwitch1, so why can't it get to hosts on vSwitch1 through pSwitch1 the same way?

    I am using RestEasy to develop a REST server and using the mock dispatcher (org.jboss.resteasy.mockMockDispatcherFactory) for testing the service in my unit tests. My service requires digest authentication and I would to make that part of my testing. Each of my services accepts a @Context SecurityContext securityContext parameter. Is there any way is inject a fake SecurityContext in the dispatcher so that I can test that my security methods function properly?

  • Putting our OLTP and OLAP services on the same cluster

    We're currently in a bit of a debate about what to do with our scattered SQL environment. We are setting up a cluster for our data warehouses for sure and are now in the process of deciding if our OLTP databases should go on the same one. The cluster will be active/active with database services running on one node and reporting and analytical services on the other node. From a technical standpoint I don't see an issue here. With the services being run on different nodes they shouldn't compete too heavily for resources. The only physical resource that may be an issue would be the shared disk space. Our environment is also quite small. Our biggest OLAP database at the moment is only about 40GB and our OLTP are all under 10GB. I see a potential political issue here as different groups are involved but I'm just strictly wondering if there would be any major technical issues that could arise from this setup.

  • Servers at remote sites vs. centralized servers?

    Looking for some opinions here. We've got three physical locations and site-to-site VPN between all three. Currently we've got Windows domain controllers at each location, with roughly 50 clients at each. The domains are currently separate, and we're looking at integrating the three sites. Email (Exchange) will be located at the primary site, and RPD is already being used at the secondary branches to hit the app servers also located at the primary site. The bulk of the local user load at the other two sites is just file sharing. What would the main benefits and drawbacks be of replacing the local domain controllers with NAS devices, and only keeping the domain controller(s) at the primary site? (assuming upgrades are coming regardless) Under what circumstances would you choose one setup over the other?

    Hello there, I've been enjoying the benefits of Geo IP lookup from database for some time. Its great. People are increasingly trying to access my site from a mobile phones or 3G modems, and their physical location seems to have little relation to whereabouts my IP lookup tells me they are. A user who is on the east cost of my country, may be looked up as being in the far inland, or up north. And one user may be reported as being in one location in one moment, and seconds later, be 100s of kilometers away. This is becoming a problem, and I need to find a solution.     Apologies if this is a stupid question but my only previous experience with SAN technology is using a SAN virtualisation tool (StarWind iSCSI SAN Free). This tool comes with a management interface that allows for iSCSI targets to be configured on the simulated SAN that can then be accessed. My question is basically: How is physical SAN device managed? Is an operating system required to be installed on the SAN device and then managed via software? Or can it be managed remotely via an application with no OS on the device? Thanks for any help.

  • What could be the maximum number of hosts on a 100BaseTX ethernet network ?

    Hello, I'm having two ip networks (192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x) bridged on a server, but all hosts (fixed IPs) are on the same physical 100BaseTX ethernet (with a daisy chain of 48ports switchs). Often, I loose link between the server and hosts of the second network. Usually if I reboot the host, the connection work again, and if I force connection to be active, the connection keep alive until I ping after a while without active connection. I'm wondering how many hosts can be connected on the same network without troubles, and eventually how many switches can be daisy chained ? I suppose maximum length between hosts to be 100meters to the hub or 200meters between extremity of the network.     I have a VM created in VMWare Player. It's VHD is currently sized 17 GB, split among multiple 2 GB files. The host OS is Windows 8. I use CrashPlan in host OS for file backup. The problem is, whenever I use the VM, CrashPlan detects all parth of VHD as altered and backs up the 17 GB VHD. WHat I want is a software that can run on host OS (Windows 8), treat the VHD as a physical hard disk and create incremental backups of the VHD, includeing all files, programs and the OS
