  • Business Analyst vs. Architect [closed]

    I'm a developer of a few years in the financial industry and will soon need to decide what career path to try and row towards. Broadly speaking I have two options: something more 'people' oriented like BAs, or keep coding and try to make more technical decisions like the Architects do where I currently work. Here are my perceptions right now: Business Analysts: get paid way more than devs once they do their job, it seems like they usually have no worries more likely to go REALLY high up in the organization (VPs, etc) Architects: things like certification matters (I see this as a con) called in when things go wrong more than anyone else (weekends & overtime) long career path to get to (dev - senior dev - team lead - architect) I would find the latter more intellectually rewarding, but when I look at it I just can't justify it in terms of lifestyle. Am I wrong / what am I missing? Can you really make a lot of money in a technical role or must you really get out of coding? Thank you for any constructive input.

    My site's URL is: www.hackinguniverse.org From some day in Google Webmaster tool a message is showing that says "Some important page is blocked by robots.txt". My robots.txt is: User-agent: Mediapartners-Google Disallow: User-agent: * Disallow: /search Allow: / Sitemap: http://www.hackinguniverse.org/feeds/posts/default?orderby=updated Now for other information - I hosted this website on blogger. I have some other sitemaps too where I had only included "/Search" in Disallow like in this robots.txt file. But those sites are ok. I mean no message is showing on those. So why am I getting that message telling that I have blocked some important page via robot.txt?

  • I think there is a problem with my url encoding

    I took someone's advice and started encoding my image sources, but Google doesn't seem to be able to decode them. I probably did something wrong, because basically Google is taking the full path as the image's name. See this page as an example. If you go on the top most thumbnail and do "Save as", you will see the path is not being decoded. Should I stop decoding or am I doing it wrong? Should I encode only the image name itself? Thanks!

I am still working on this but not getting proper guidance. This site is caching 2 times in 24Hrs. Some times sites will back in to top 10 search listing on 100s keywords, some time its gone out 1000+. anybody can help me why its happening.   • install 64 bit as dual boot with 32 bit

    I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 - bit .iso onto a bootable USB and want to put it on to my 32 bit 12.10 system as a dual boot, using a totally separate 1 Tb disk [which already has data on it]. However, when I go to restart and hit F8 fir BIOS set-up, I can change all the settings except the boot search order. Is there some other way to force the startup to read the USB first? Is the fact that I cannot change the search order to do with the fact that the 32 bit OS was 'Installed in legacy mode' not 'EFI? How can I rectify this? (This might be related -- might I need to update my BIOS for my Intel DX38BT motherboard? I think their last upgrade was 2009.)

  • Actinic and Google Analytics: does it mess with my stats?

    My fathers website is built using Actinic - not by me but by a local company - and since he went with them some years ago his traffic never went down, but has stayed more or less consistent which is fine. My question is this; does using actinic somehow confuse analytics? As it shows that 99% of all visitors come "direct", as in, not by organic search. Previous to using Actinic he would get 70 to 85% of new hits exclusively from organic search terms. So I'm wondering if Actinic somehow messes with these new hits and redirects them to a "home" page.. Not sure exactly what I mean but this change in stats is concerning and I'm struggling to find an explanation.

    Problem:  Not exactly SharePoint, but the issue is when setting the %JAVA_HOME% environment variable, Java installs to the Program Files directory by default.  The space in the path seems to stop the variable from being read.  You get an error. Solution:  Change Program Files to Progra~1, so the path now looks like this: C:\Progra~1\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin\; You can type %JAVA_HOME%\bin\javac to test.  Output should look like this: Usage: javac <options> <source files> where possible options include: ...

  • which status to put for temporarily inactive page

    I was wondering if someone could help me how to manage temporarily inactive website in regards of SEO and search engine. the case is i managed a big ecommerce site, and sometime i need to put down page(s). could be days, could be weeks, could be months, and it depends on our vendor. if my visitors land on the page that been temporarily inactive then i can give them a message that the vendor they looking for is not available at this time and he can check back later OR check another vendor with similar products, but how do i send my message to search engine robots? if i use 301 status and forward URL page to another similar products, then the chance that the current URL being deindex is huge while i still want to use that URL for the future if my vendor want to re-join. any advise will highly appriciated

For this to work I need to rewrite the url to open the correct php file. That would look something like this: RewriteRule ^(.*).css$ /csszip.php?file=$1.css [L] But I only want the first to happen when the second doesn't and vice versa.   • Am I making the right decision to take Information technology/system as my course in college?

    I am a student who just ended my high school last year. I will be entering college any time between march to August. And.. I am thinking of studying Information technology/System as my course in college. The problem is, I am unsure if this is the right path for me. I don't know if this is what I really want for my future later on! Yes, I do love learning more about computers (prefer software to hardware). But what if I don't find them interesting later on when studying? I'm worried about that as I don't wanna regret later on. To add to that, my knowledge of programming and other software development is actually quite low. Can someone advise me on what should I do? Or tell me more about Information technology (what will I study later on in college and the career path)?

    Possible Duplicate: How do you manage your knowledge base? What do you use for personal note taking to keep track of everything you learn? Are you always Googling or searching StackOverflow to answer the same questions? Or searching for and copying and pasting existing code? I feel like I have a poor memory, especially remembering things like syntax. Are there any knowledge management systems that would work well for a programming language or operating system? It would be great if there were a way to save everything I learn in an easy to search system. Does such a thing exist? Maybe you would be able to search by question (How to sort an array?, How to set static IP?), or by tag (sort, array, enumeration, iterator, IP). I know it would be easy to develop my own system, but I thought it would be great to learn what works for other people.

    Possible Duplicate: The SEO Benefit of Breaking Up Content Onto Different Websites I was wondering if (assuming all your content is related) it would be better to put all your content under a single domain or multiple domains that link to each other. Lets say I have Site A which doesn't have a good search ranking. If I have a new product that I'm sure could get a good ranking on its own would I get a better search ranking for Site A if I - Add the new product as a new section to Site A. Or put the product on new Site B and link back to Site A. To give you an example if you were developing a few browser plugins would it be better (in terms of ranking) to showcase them all in the same site, or would you give them each their own domain's that link to each other?   • Incorrect Google Profile Results

    Where do Google gets the info they display along with your profile in their "Profile Results" that is shown once you hit search for a particular person? When Google shows incorrect info, there's a feedback option at the bottom and it gives you an option to report a problem on which info is wrong. However, this is a tedious task since I've already done this before and they have corrected it but then when I search again after a couple of months, wrong info is shown again. So maybe I need to correct or do something on the process of putting those info into the profile... Not sure where Google gets all these info.. Help?

    I'm an economist (aspiring economist, if we are being technical) and my curiousity has been recently piqued by search engine optimization services. I had the following questions. 1) What industries most widely use search engine optimization services? 2) Is it small business or big firms that use SEO services typically? 3) What is SEO pricing typically dependent upon and how much is it on average? 4) Do SEO services really increase traffic? Is there a dataset I can get a hold of for this sort of thing? I am not looking for answers to the questions necessarily.
