I have already made an application that gets special text messages ( starting with !farenc! ) and I know how to Encrypt/Decrypt the messages as well. The problem is that I don't know how to edit a text message after it's arrived (for decryption). I've tested: cmd.exe > ftp host > username > password > SIZE filename = Invalid Command However, if I access the FTP site through an Internet Browser, the filesize is displayed. Do I need to install FTP Extensions, and if so, which ones and where do I get them? • Most readable way to write simple conditional check

  What would be the most readable/best way to write a multiple conditional check such as shown below? Two possibilities that I could think of (this is Java but the language really doesn't matter here): Option 1: boolean c1 = passwordField.getPassword().length > 0; boolean c2 = !stationIDTextField.getText().trim().isEmpty(); boolean c3 = !userNameTextField.getText().trim().isEmpty(); if (c1 && c2 && c3) { okButton.setEnabled(true); } Option 2: if (passwordField.getPassword().length > 0 && !stationIDTextField.getText().trim().isEmpty() && !userNameTextField.getText().trim().isEmpty() { okButton.setEnabled(true); } What I don't like about option 2 is that the line wraps and then indentation becomes a pain. What I don't like about option 1 is that it creates variables for nothing and requires looking at two places. So what do you think? Any other options?

• Why is my panel not positioned correctly even after setting the boundaries?

  I'm trying to make a simple GUI with radio buttons and I grouped them into one panel. I wanted it positioned on the leftmost side so I used the setBounds method. Whatever numbers I put on the parameters, the panel won't move. Are panels not affected by the setBounds method? Or is there another way to position my panel. I have an asp version which works fine with the same url and data, i think it's just a php/curl thing...? • Weird symbols on Mac

  Since I've had my mac, I keep seeing this weird symbol. Till today, it had been only in the place of bullet points in OpenOffice.org. The first pictures shows this in a .doc file created on a Windows system. I thought nothing of it - just an annoyance. It appears no matter what the font. Real bullets appear if I delete the text and insert a bulletted list using the toolbar. Then, today I noticed in in iTunes - which seemed strange. Image 3 is a zoom of the character. It says on it: Private Use E000 F8FF. What is it (unicode related?), and how do I get the bullets working properly? Edit: The plot thickens... If I boot in Safe Mode, the symbols look like little snap boards like you'd have at the beginning of filming a scene in a film...

• Two domains hosted on the same server with different root folder shows up the same homepage

  I have hosted two domains from GoDaddy at Linode VPS. They are mobiletoast.com and lesseltechnologies.com Thought the latter site has a separate index folder, whenever I navigate to it, I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The strange thing is, I see the expected page (It works), when I open the site from my mobile phone. But when I open the site from my PC (any browser, without any cache, hard refresh), I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The Linode support team says, they see the correct "It works" page. But I am not able to see that page. Is it not possible that some other actor could change the value of addr between the if and the assignment? In which case, assuming all code is using this CAS fundamental, it would be found the next time something "expected" it to be a certain way, and it wasn't. However, that doesn't change the fact that it could happen, in which case, is it still atomic? What about the other actor returning true, even when it's changes were overwritten by this actor? If that can't possibly happen, then why? I want to believe the author, so what am I missing here? I am thinking it must be obvious. My apologies in advance if this seems trivial.

• JavaScript change to DropDownList.SelectedIndex not submitted

  Hi So, I have a form to submit fighters. You write his/her name, country, and then the team they fight for + the team's country. When you start typing the name I have constructed my own Ajax AutoCompleter. It will find existing fighters that might match. When you click on one of the suggestions it will populate up to four fields depending on existing data in the database. If you're lucky the fighter already exists with information on country, team, and the team's country. The problems starts when submitting. The JavaScript follows and just get's the id of the country to select (also the value of the select-option), and the select-element itself. function dropdownSelect(value, element) { var dropdown = document.getElementById(element); for (var i = 0; i < dropdown.options.length; i++) { if (dropdown.options[i].value == value) { dropdown.options[i].selected = true; return true; } } } When submitting the ASP.NET-code halt's and says that my country-field is null. So my JavaScript-change of selected field couldn't be read by ASP.NET. Is this a limitation of how ASP.NET works? Or a limitation of my skills? ;P

• Forwarding keypresses in GTK

  I'm writing a bit of code for a Gedit plugin. I'm using Python and the interface (obviously) is GTK. So, the issue I'm having is quite simple: I have a search box (a gtk.Entry) and right below I have a results box (a gtk.TreeView). Right after you type something in the search box you are presented a bunch of results, and I would like the user to be able to press the Up/Down keys to select one, Enter to choose it, and be done. Thing is, I can't seem to find a way to forward the Up/Down keypress to the TreeView. Currently I have this piece of code: def __onSearchKeyPress(self, widget, event): """ Forward up and down keys to the tree. • JavaFX MouseEvent continues when I remove the object it happened on

  It took me a while to realize what was going on with mouse events going through my blocking dialog boxes when I closed them, but I finally figured out why. I still don't know any good way to fix it. I have a custom dialog box (that blocks the mouse) with a close button. When I click the close button, I remove the dialog box from the scene, but JavaFx is still processing the MouseEvent and now it finds that there is nothing blocking the screen behind where the cancel button was, so that component receives a MouseEvent. How do I make the mouseEvent stop processing when I see that they pressed cancel and remove the dialog box? Or, is there a way to make the removing of the dialog box not happen until after it is done processing the MouseEvent?   Let say I have three thread handles HandleList[0] = hThread1; HandleList[1] = hThread2; HandleList[2] = hThread3; /*All the above are of type HANDLE*/ Before closing the application, I want the thread to get its task done. So I want to make app wait till thread completes. So I do, WaitForMultipleObjects(3, HandleList, TRUE, INFINITE ); By this I'm able to make the thread, complete its task. But control never move to next line after the call to WaitForMultileObjects irrespective of all thread completing its task. If I use, some seconds instead of INFINITE, it comes to next line after that many secs, irrspective of whether thread completes its task or not. WaitForMultipleObjects(3, HandleList, TRUE, 10000 ); My problem here is, I'm can't go for seconds, as I may not be sure whether the threads will complete its task with the given time. To list my problem in simple words, I want all my thread to finish the task, before I close my app. How can I achieve it using WaitForMultipleObjects API?

• Is it possible to create an Android Service that listens for hardware key presses?

  I'd like to run an Android background service that will act as a keylistener from the home screen or when the phone is asleep. Is this possible? From semi-related examples online, I put together the following service, but get the error, "onKeyDown is undefined for the type Service". • When I type certain characters, they come out as backquotes

  Very strange behavior. Some background: I bought a new lenovo G550 laptop, running Windows 7. I live in Israel. When I type certain keys, in any application, they are prefaced with the backquote (`). These characters are: Insert, Delete, Left Ctrl (the right-hand one is fine), - (the regular dash: the one on the keypad is fine), =, 5 (the regular one), 4 (the one on the numeric keypad, whether or not Num Lock is on), and PgDn (the regular one). When I press the Fn key with these I don't get the behavior. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how I can fix it?

• Changing <object> height and width works in Chrome but not Firefox or IE. Why?

  I am making a site with two Youtube videos. These videos use the raw embed code from Youtube. The site's design doesn't work with any of the default Youtube sizes, so I am writing code to automatically resize the video. Here is my code. In IE and FF (latest versions), the videos are the unchanged, normal size. I cannot find anything in Google that explans why this won't work. I have tried using setattribute, for loops, adjusting both and , single-quotes and double-quotes, etc. Any ideas what is going wrong?

However, I can't figure out how to change a value as you iterate through a list. for word, s_word, checked in words: if not checked: for word1, s_word1, checked1 in words: if s_word1 == s_word: checked1 = True # this doesn't work print word1, print "" Any help on doing this or thinking more "Pythony" is appreciated.
