• How can I make my binary file is served as binary and not text when user choose "Save Linked File As..." in Safari?

  I'm serving a binary file (.IPA) with Ubuntu/Apache 2.2. When I have chosen Save Linked File As... in Safari, it says it's text file. And it guides me to add .txt extension. However it does not add any extra extension when I download it just clicking link. I added line AddType application/octet-stream .ipa in apache configuration file. I don't know what's wrong with this. Is this a bug of Safari or my misconfiguration? (1) If it caused by bug, how can I avoid this? (2) Or if it caused by misconfiguration, what should I do?

• Can't disable giant cursors (from accessibility mode)

  I've just installed ubuntu 12.04 from a livecd. Out of curiosity, I enabled the accessibility options for people who are hard of sight. As you can guess this does the usual stuff of inverting colours, increasing text size and making the cursor larger. Having finished the installation I booted into the new system to find accessibility mode was still installed. From the lightdm login screen I disabled this which switched colours and text size back to default, however it's only the pointer cursor that has gone back to default. To put it another way, the "hand" icon that you get when hovering over a link, the cursor which appears when typing and pretty much every other cursor on the system are still large. I've looked on the Universal Access menu, but there's no option to disable large cursors. I've tried toggling accessibility on and off but to no avail.

• Hostapd to connect laptop to Android

  i am trying to set up my laptop as an access point for my Android to use WiFi, so i knew that ubuntu sets the network as Ad-Hoc which is not discoverable by android, So i tried the method explained here -which i found on many other websites- but when i run hostapd.conf this error appears : nl80211: Failed to set interface wlan0 into AP mode nl80211 driver initialization failed. • Ubuntu One Preferences does not show usage, name, e-mail, current plan

  Ubuntuone is correctly synchronizing selected files between two computers running Ubuntu 10.10. When I open Ubuntuone Preferences, Account tab, on one computer it does not display the usage, name e-mail or current plan. On the other computer all information is shown correctly. On the Devices tab the 2 computers are not shown. They do show correctly on the other computer. Any ideas on how to fix this problem. I have reinstalled Ubuntuone per this link.

• Firefox: middle mouse button stopped working

  In Firefox, middle mouse button/wheel has been assigned "Open link in new tab" action for a while now, by default. Since I ran Software Update tonight, this action doesn't work in Firefox anymore. To be specific, middle mouse click doesn't open links anymore. At the same time, it closes tabs just fine (middle-click a tab == 'Close tab'). I don't know the update details, but I remember that Firefox update was there among other things. I tried running Firefox with a clean profile and middle button did work there, so something must've changed with existing settings.

• "./configure: command not found" error when trying to install the JRE

  I was trying to install JRE on my 64-bit ubuntu 10.04 installation. Just to be sure that that is what I really want, I need to run a .jar file. I downloaded java from this link. Then I chose linux x64 and downloaded the tar file, I extracted it and tried to compile the source code but had the error. I don't know whether I downloaded the wrong file or I ran the wrong commands in the terminal After I changed directory using the cd command to the extracted directory, I tried ./configure but I got this error: ./configure: command not found I know that there is an easier way to install java but I just want to understand how to install an application from source in linux as it seems that I will face this problem in the future. • How to disallow indexing but allow crawling?

  In the front page of my website, I have some previews to articles (with a small introduction to them) that link to the full articles. I want to disallow the front page to prevent duplicate content. But if I do this (in robots.txt), would it still be crawled? I mean, the full articles would be still reached by the crawler even though I disallowed the only page that links to them? I don't want the webcrawler not to access the page and enter the links in them, but I just don't want it to save the information (that will be repeated in the full articles).

• Tracking URL Goals to an external site from a landing page

  I have a landing page promoting an iOS app. The page is at vitogo.com. I've set up a goal for When a user clicks on the link to go to iTunes to download the app. I set up a URL destination goal in the property for the site, and can see the goal set up in the reports section.   Possible Duplicate: Why isn't my website in Google search results? I have submitted my website today into Google search using Google Webmasters using sitemaps. The status on the sitemap says OK and it shows that 12 urls have been recognized. I was wondering how long does it take for the link to get indexed, as the indexed url option says "No data available. Please check back soon." I am not sure if it is showing this message due to some error, or everything is fine.

• How can I monitor a website for malicious changes to the files

  I had an occasion recently where our website was compromised - a link farm was added to a couple of the pages on one occasion, and on another occasion, a large and nasty aspx file was put on the server. I won't mention the host's name (Hostway), but I was pretty annoyed that someone was able to do this. No, it wasn't a leaky password - around 10 sites hosted by HW with consecutive IP addresses got trashed. Anyway. What I need is a utility or service (preferably free) that takes a snapshot of my websites contents, and then regularly monitors the files (size and datestamp) for unauthorized changes or additions, and alerts me. I've used web services that monitor one file for changes, but I'm looking for something a bit more aggressive.

  My aim is to simply be informative about where a link is pointing to search engines. I have some content that is listed by name and then I have a "Permalink" button. Would it be blackhat SEO to add some hidden text within the anchor that describes where the permalink is pointing? My content is like so: News Item 1 Permalink (<a href="/my-news-item-1"><hidden>News Item 1</hidden> Permalink</a>) Teaser text.. The news title of the block already links to the article, but I think it would be of benefit to users to provide and explicit permalink button.
