• managing library dependencies with Boost.Build and C++

  I want to develop a project which can be built on a bunch of different platforms. The project code will be in C++, what's the the best way to manage libraries? I plan on using bjam as the build system because I'm going to be depending on Boost and their unit testing framework as well. The two dependent libraries are Boost itself and FLTK. The possibilities that come to mind for library management are: include build artifacts (binaries) and headers for all supported platforms in-tree include complete source for all dependent libraries in-tree, and somehow script them as dependencies A combination of 1 and 2, like node.js does with v8 inform the user that they need to build the libraries themselves and then have them on the PATH or in some special directory, like libcurl does with its dependencies What is the best approach here? The project will probably not grow beyond a few thousand lines over the next six months, but I want to make the right choice here so that I don't have to come back and switch everything around later.

I looked for any idea how to use them, but unfortunately I didn't found. So, I ask my questions here: How to use VisualStudioTemplate? the archive did not contain any .vstemplate file, so it cannot be used as VisualStudio template. Do I need to rename any $safesolutionname$ manually? It's not make any sense. What the porpuse of CodeCampServerPackage? This archive contains a deployment files only.

  A friend of mine was seeking some help regarding HTML tables and JQuery. I have decided to write a few posts demonstrating the various techniques I used with JQuery to achieve the desired functionality. ?here are other posts in my blog regarding JQuery.You can find them all here.I have received some comments from visitors of this blog that are "complaining" about the length of the blog posts. I will not write lengthy posts anymore...I mean I will try not to do so..We will demonstrate this with a step by step example. I will use Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. You can also use Visual Studio 2012 Express Edition. You can also use VS 2010 editions. 1) Launch Visual Studio. Create an ASP.Net Empty Web application. Choose an appropriate name for your application.2) Add a web form, default.aspx page to the application.3) Add a table from the HTML controls tab control (from the Toolbox) on the default.aspx page4) Now we need to download the JQuery library. Please visit the http://jquery.com/ and download the minified version.5) We will add a stylesheet to the application (Style.css)5) Obviously at some point we need to reference the JQuery library and the external stylesheet. Now let's say that we want to highlight only alternate rows of the table.We need to add another rule in the style.css.alternate { background-color:#42709b; color:#ff6a00;} The JQuery code (comment out the previous JQuery code) follows  <script type="text/javascript">        $(document).ready(function() {                     $('table tr:odd').addClass('alternate');        });    </script>  When I run my application through VS I see the following result You can do that with columns as well. • Maven: Unofficial artifact naming scheme?

  I'm creating some Maven artifacts for various dependencies for our projects, and while I'm taking my best guess at group / artifact IDs, I'd like to add something to flag them as "unofficial" and created by us for compilation, so that should we find official sources for the same thing in the future there's no confusion and we can simply change to point to the identifiers. Is there a best/common/reccomended practice for doing so? I was just thinking something like setting groupId="org.providername.unofficial", but since Maven's all about "doing it our way" I just want to see if there's a precedent for something different already...

• What frameworks to use to bootstrap my first production scala project ?

  I am making my first foray into scala for a production app. The app is currently packaged as a war file. My plan is to create a jar file of the scala compiled artifacts and add that into the lib folder for the war file. My enhancement is a mysql-backed app exposed via Jersey & will be integrated with a 3rd party site via HttpClient invocations. I know how to do this via plain java. But when doing it in scala, there are several decision points that I am pussyfooting on. scala 2.7.7 or 2.8 RC ? JDBC via querulous Is this API ready for production ? sbt vs maven. I am comfortable with maven. Is there a scala idiomatic wrapper for HttpClient (or should I use it just like in java) ? I'd love to hear your comments and experiences on starting out with scala.   I get a missing artifact error during Maven build because one of the dependencies declares it's parent artifact using a property for the version. Now the property itself is declared in the parent pom and my project's build fails giving this error: [ERROR] Failed to execute goal on project abc: Unable to get dependency information for xyz:pqr:jar:SNAPSHOT: Failed to process POM for xyz:pqr:jar:SNAPSHOT: Non-resolvable parent POM xyz:pqr-parent:${someversion} for xyz:pqr:${someversion}: Failed to resolve POM for xyz:pqr-parent:${someversion} due to Missing: ---------- 1) xyz:pqr-parent:pom:${someversion} ---------- 1 required artifact is missing. for artifact: xyz:pqr-parent:pom:${someversion} I have verified that the artifacts are present in correct location in the repository. Is there a way to specify the value of someversion property used in the dependency pom? If not, how should the dependency pom be changed to resolve the error?

  i received a big book full of processes. i was thinking about the end user (they will be lawyers) and decided the best GUI would be showing activity diagrams or business processes. It reminded me Quickbooks and how non-accountants can successfully use it and understand accounting processes. i began doing research before sending my project to a bunch of programmers: is there some open source solution? can i use MS Visio libraries? which UML tool is programable? what about Eclipse and its modeling tools? etc etc the key points here are: relationships between events, artifacts, actors, etc should be stored in a database. processes or steps in a process should be easily modified by updating the database do this sounds too crazy? (should I explain a bit more why it must be programmed this way?)

  We're using Hudson on Windows to build a .NET solution and run the unit tests (NUnit). Hudson is thereby used to start batch files that do the actual work. I am now trying to set up a new test that is to run on a build slave and will run very long. The test should use the binaries produced by the upstream build. I have searched the Hudson documentation but I cannot find how to pass upstream build artifacts to downstream slaves. How do I do this?

• What would you use for deployment scripts in Java?

  Hi, I'm working on a Java web project that uses Maven to build its artifacts. At the end of the Maven build we have a few jar and war files that we need to deploy onto our development/testing environment. Right now we're using a pretty hefty Ant script that performs several tasks (on both Windows/Linux machines) Starts/Stops services Copies/deletes files Builds some stuff and then executes it Etc Ant does the job well - but the script is quickly getting very large, and to be honest, it feels inadequate for the task at hand. Are there other alternatives? I've heard of gant, but I'm not sure that's the right way to go. Thanks for helping!

• Imagick: gifs, and background color

  Hi, I have 2 questions about using the php imagick class that I can't get working properly... 1.) I tried resizing / cropping a gif, and treated it as a normal image. It seemed to work, except that a few frames in the middle of the animation contained a small patch of artifacts. Is there a setting that should be used when working with multi-frame gifs? 2.) Is there a simple command to resize images if they are too small by just adding a background? For instance, if an image is 10x10, could I add a white background, and have a 100x100px image with the original in the upper left corner? Thanks for any help!
