  • advanced css: top and bottom with flexible centre

    is it possible with just css2 to have the following: all the content to be in the flexible div.mid section overlap the top and bottom parts not fussed about ie6 here's the photoshop with centre slice: as you can see the top and bottom parts are quite large and i need to overlap them from the middle slice... Please dont misunderstand here, i understand how to make a flexible central div, the complexity is in the overlapping of the top and bottom while the mid div remains flexible. I imagine it requires either negative margins or absolutely position top and bottoms elements with z-index..

  • My textarea won't accept any width attributes.

    Hi, for some odd reason the text area I have in my site won't accept the width I tell it to, I've tried to select it three times in the CSS just to make sure! Here is a jsfiddle example that shows what I want, and here is the page where it doesn't want to work. I have searched through the CSS to find any conflicting textarea properties, but there are none. Suppose I have some jquery code that states that if I mouseover an li, it gets a background color. However, if I mouseover the "Sub Item" list item, "Item 2" will be highlighted as well. How can I make it so that if the user mouses over "Sub Item" it only puts a background color on that and not on "Item 2" as well?

    Hi, Hoping someone could pls let me know how to prevent the symbol "&" from being replaced by "&amp;" within my URL, specifically within javascript? Just to expand on requirement, I am getting my url from an oracle database table, which I then use within Oracle Application Express, to set the src attribute of an iframe to this url. FYI, the url stored in the Oracle table is actually stored correctly, i.e. http://mydomain.com/xml/getInfo?s=pvalue1&f=mydir/Summary.xml what appears in my use when trying to pass over into iframe src using javascript is: http://mydomain.com/xml/getInfo?s=pvalue1&amp;f=mydir/Summary.xml which basically returns a page cannot be found Hope this clarified further my issue.   • Restructured Text - adding title attributes to links

    Hi all, I am trying to use a jquery lightbox implementation on my website that is generated from Restructured Text. The lightbox takes the title of the link around the images as the caption of the image in the lightbox display. However, I can't seem to find a way in Restructured Text of providing a title attribute on a link - does anyone know of a way of doing so. My Images are defined like so: .. image:: image001.thumb.jpg :alt: Some alt text here :target: image001.jpg So I can add an alt attribute, but not a title. A possible alternative may be to use a target as the reference like so: .. image:: image001.thumb.jpg :alt: Some alt text here :target: image1_ .. _image1: image001.jpg In this latter case, I am not sure how to add attributes to the link defined at the bottom (if it is possible at all)

    Uncompressed, jQuery is 160KB in size. I did not see a way to exclude seldomly used parts of it like with jQuery UI. How can I reduce the (compressed and minified) file size of jQuery? I am quite concerned because dial-up lines and slow machines/browsers are very common among users of my site.

    I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong, and I can't figure out how to Google it because a common mistake is very prevalent. I have the parent's height explicitly set, but I can't get #main-sub-content 's height to 100%.     Does anybody know how to center align a DIV that has the display set to inline-block? I cannot set the display to block because I have a background image that needs to be repeated, and it needs to expand based on the content. It sits inside of a parent div, in which is larger when it comes to width. So all in all. Does anyone have a fix to center align a div with the display set to inline-block?     I had this code in my Website <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"/> <script type='text/javascript' src='/lib/player/swfobject.js'></script> swfobject was not working (not loaded). After altering the code to: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> <script type='text/javascript' src='/lib/player/swfobject.js'></script> It worked fine. The document was parsed as HTML5. I think its funny. Okay, granted a tag that is closed and a self closing tag are not the same. So i would understand if jquery couldnt load. Altough i find it rediciulous. But what i do not understand is that jquery loads but the following, correctly written tag, doesnt?

  • "javascript: void(0)" links sometimes break event handlers in internet explorer

    A while back I ran in to a problem where after clicking an anchor with "javascript: void(0)" events just stopped firing. I read that following a link puts the page in a different state and in that different state events don't fire. Even though the link is not real, it sometimes confuses IE. Anyway, I removed the "javascript: void(0)"'s and the problem has not been seen again. Now, in a different application I am seeing the same thing... kinda. Clicking the "javascript: void(0)" sometimes has no ill effect. But then for some reason or another after clicking the bad link the page will stop working. Once this happens it will continue to happen consistently until the client machine is rebooted. After reboot, you are back to it sometimes happening. Crazy right? Reboot fixing a web page!?!?! So, my question is has anyone seen this before? Can anyone give an explanation for this issue? Any documentation on this issue? I can't seem to find anything on it again. Does this even make sense? I already know "javascript: void(0)" is bad practice... I am just looking to understand the issue. Specifically, this is IE7. Thanks for reading!

    Hello, I am creating a website and i want to allow personalization to individual users upto some extent like changing font family, background color etc. The problem with this is that, my default css file that i load has already default classes for everything. Now when i fetch the background color from my database, then if there is null value for background color then default css class of mystylesheet.css should be loaded and if the value is not null, then i want to override this with my default css.   • height: auto does not work to automatically resize header

    I'm trying to do a simple thing in CSS I have a header tag and inside that a couple of h tags. So, in order to have a responsive design I do height:auto; inside the header tag, so it will automatically stretch to contain the h tags. Right? But does not work, headeris just a line in the top of the page. t should stretch to contain the titles, right? What am I missing? Is it a good practice to put CSS in the h tags and not style header at all? So h tags will be like the header in user's eye? Thanks in advence Check it here

  • Making IE "forget" information entered in form when using back button.

    I have a page with a form where many of the fields are populated from variables passed in the URL. Those fields are disabled (NON-EDITABLE) and are only there for the user to view. The remaining fields require user input and are NOT disabled (EDITABLE). When the form is submitted a confirmation page comes up. It may be the case that the user needs to submit several of these forms where the NON-EDITABLE information is identical from form to form, so being able to go back to the form page from the confirmation page would save a lot of time. The way I want this to work is when a user presses the back button all the NON-EDITABLE fields are populated, but the EDITABLE fields are blank. This is what Firefox is doing, but IE8 is does not "forget" what has been entered in the EDITABLE fields. To disable the cache the following appears at the beginning of my page AND at the end of my page. <head> <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache"/> <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-store"/> <head/> What more must I do to make IE forget what was entered in the EDITABLE fields when the back button is pressed? All of my pages are generated with PHP if that matters. EDIT: It appears to me that this is a problem of IE caching my page even though I have told it not to. Are my meta tags correct? Do I need to do something else to prevent IE from caching my page?

  • css to replace characters in paragraph tag

    Already checked exisitng questions for this, but didn't find an exact match. My aim is to replace characters (like spaces) on a webpage with a small image using css. Example: <p><span>This is a text</span></p> becomes: <p><span>ThisIMGisIMGaIMGtext</span></p> (where IMG stands for a visible image (middot-pic for a space f.e.)) I cannot think of a suitable css selector. But myabe one of you guys (or girls) know a solution. Is this possible at all?
