• How do I deal with content scrapers? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to protect SHTML pages from crawlers/spiders/scrapers? My Heroku (Bamboo) app has been getting a bunch of hits from a scraper identifying itself as GSLFBot. Googling for that name produces various results of people who've concluded that it doesn't respect robots.txt (eg, http://www.0sw.com/archives/96). I'm considering updating my app to have a list of banned user-agents, and serving all requests from those user-agents a 400 or similar and adding GSLFBot to that list. Is that an effective technique, and if not what should I do instead? (As a side note, it seems weird to have an abusive scraper with a distinctive user-agent.)

  I am trying to decode a piece of code from a book: List<Person> people = new List<Person>() { new Person {FirstName="Homer",LastName="Simpson",Age=47}, new Person {FirstName="Marge",LastName="Simpson",Age=45} }; Person is just a simple class they made, with a bunch of fields: Name, Last Name, etc... What I don't understand is, don't we send parameters to a constructor of Person in non-curly brackets? I tried replicating this code, but it doesn't seem to fly, any takers? Thanks for input.

In addition to the release documentation, the following new information is provided: Learn about some of the "behind the scenes" work for an application, such as threads, events, and binding with the new learning trail on the landing page. Learn how to use cell editors with the List View component. The new example in the UI Controls tutorial shows how to build a list of names by selecting them from a combo box. • Component-based Rendering

  I have component Renderer, that Draws Texture2D (or sprite) According to component-based architecture i should have only method OnUpdate, and there should be my rendering code, something like spriteBatch.Draw(Texture, Vector2.Zero, Color.White) But first I need to do spriteBatch.Begin();. Where should i call it? And how can I make sure it's called before any Renderer components OnUpdate method? (i need to do more stuff then just Begin() i also need to set right rendertarget for camera etc.)

• What to do when product range evolves and site name does not reflect this?

  Suppose, just as an example, I have a website with domain www.gifts-for-dogs.com.....but after a few years I start selling stuff for Cats and Fish. I may not keep enough of a range of products for these other type of pets yet, so can't justify changing the domain name and logo (to something like gifts-for-pets.com) just yet....but envisage that I eventually may have to in the not too distant future. What would be a good strategy here and what are the steps I would have to consider before making these changes?

• A program/CLI command to help translate multiple file names

  I have hundreds of files with different names that I want to translate into a different language. Is there an application/CLI action that would allow me to copy all this names as in a list/table and then, after having translated them, to paste them back into the list/table, or that would allow a procedure somewhat similar to "Rename" in Thunar but with a more complex action closer to what I have described? (I am in Lubuntu and I prefer not to use Nautilus due to unwanted interference with LXDE/pcmanfm desktop and LXPanel. If there is a solution in Nautilus please provide it but try to give an alternative if possible.)

• Can see samba shares but not access them

  For the life of me I cannot figure this one out. I have samba installed and set up on the ubuntu box and on the Win7 box I CAN SEE all the shares I created. I created two users on ubuntu that map to the users in windows. On ubuntu they are both admins, user A & B on Windows User A is admin and user B is poweruser. User A can see both shares and access them, but user B can see everythin, but only access the homes directory, the other directory throws an error. I have two drives in Ubuntu and this is the smb.config file (I am new to samba): [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu) wins support = no dns proxy = yes name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000 syslog = 0 panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d security = user encrypt passwords = true passdb backend = tdbsam obey pam restrictions = yes unix password sync = yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* . pam password change = yes map to guest = bad user ; usershare max shares = 100 usershare allow guests = yes And here is the share section: Both user A & B can access this from windows. Any ideas? The goal is to have a setup like this. 3 users on window machines. Each user on the data drive will have their own personal folder where they are the ones that can only access, then another folder where 2 of the users will have read only and one user full access. I had this setup before on windows, but after what happened I am NEVER going back to windows, so Unix here I am to stay! I am really stuck. I am running Ubuntu 11. I could reformat again and put on version 10 if that would make life easier. I have been dealing with this since Wed. 3pm. Thanks.

  I have sent out emails to my 6.2k subscribers through iKode Newsletter Server. And about 50 to be considered as spam. It is less than 1%. It is amazing! The web based email marketing software of iKode also provides double opt-in subscription form which is effective to target special audience. However, if I want to import mailing list to this software, I need to add the address one by one, which is a waste of time. Does iKode provides mass account import ability? Or just need to upload a mailing list file?

Despite some (apparent) improvements over the VS2008 behavior, in its current form it's even LESS usable than before. A brief non-exhaustive summary of the typical grief with this dialog is: Scrolling a list of *hundreds* of entries? (300+ typically) No partial matching when typing: yes, you can type in the list to get to the desired entry, but the matching is performed in an exact manner, from the beginning of the assembly name. • Rendering order in an Entity System

  Say I use a basic ES approach, and also inside Systems I hold lists of all entities that Systems are required to process. How do I maintain this list of entities in desired rendering order, i.e. for a dumb 2D RenderingSystem? I saw this discussion, and what they suggest is to do something like Z ordering - what I would probably do is just to store a "layer" int in DrawableComponent and then, inside RenderingSystem, just sort entities by mentioned "layer" whenever the entity list for RenderingSystem changes. They also say we could just delete and recreate the entity whenever we want it on the top, but it seems too inflexible to me. How is this problem usually solved?

• Was I wrong about JavaScript?

  Yes, I was. Recently, I’ve taken a good hard look at JavaScript. I’ve used it before but mostly in the capacity of web design. Using JQuery to make your web page do cool stuff is different than really creating a JavaScript application using all of the language constructs. What I’m finding as I use it more is that I may have been wrong about my assumptions about it. Let me explain.   I enjoyed doing cool stuff with JQuery but the limited experience with JavaScript as a language coupled with the bad things that I heard about it led me to not have any real interest in it. However, JavaScript is ubiquitous on the web and if I want to do any web development, which I do, I need to learn it. So here I am, diving deep into the language with the help of the JavaScript Fundamentals training course at Pluralsight (great training for a low price) and the JavaScript: The Good Parts book by Douglas Crockford.   Now, there are certainly parts of JavaScript that are bad. I think these are well known by any developer that uses it. The parts that I feel are especially egregious are the following: The global object null vs. undefined truthy and falsy limited (nearly nonexistent) scoping ‘==’ and ‘===’ (I just don’t get the reason for coercion)   However, what I am finding hiding under the covers of the bad things is a good language. I am finding that I am legitimately enjoying JavaScript. This I was not expecting. I’m not going to go into a huge dissertation on what I like about it, but some things include: Object literal notation dynamic typing functional style (JavaScript: The Good Parts describes it as LISP in C clothing) JSON (better than XML) There are parts of JavaScript that seem strange to OOP developers like myself. However, just because it is different or seems strange does not mean it is bad. Some differences are quite interesting and useful.   I feel that it is important for developers to challenge their assumptions and also to be able to admit when they are wrong on a topic. Many different situations can arise that lead to this, such as choosing the wrong technology for a problem’s solution, misunderstanding the requirements, etc. I decided to challenge my assumptions about JavaScript instead of moving straight into CoffeeScript or Dart. After exploring it, I find that I am beginning to enjoy it the more I use it. As long as there are those like Crockford to help guide me in the right way to code in JavaScript, I can create elegant and efficient solutions to problems and add another ‘arrow’ to the ‘quiver’, so to speak. I do still intend to learn CoffeeScript to see what the hub-bub is about, but now I no longer have to be afraid of JavaScript as a legitimate programming language.   Has something similar ever happened to you?   SharePoint 2010 Training: more information You know that ECB Menu in SharePoint 2007? Well in SharePoint 2010 you can very easily move it around on any column you wish. What you do is, open the view in SharePoint Designer, then you click on the field you wish to see the ECB menu in, then you will see a little floatie button with this on it ">", then, you click on that floatie, and it shows a little popup with 2 checkboxes in it. "Common xsl:value-of Tasks"- Show List Item Menu- Show Link To Item You check the "Show List Item Menu" checkbox, and off you go - now the ECB menu is available on the other column. Enjoy! • How can I backup my PPAs?

  Related to this question. But my concern is that over the past year, most of my more interesting (or used) applications are from PPAs, and just backing up my sources list won't add the associated launchpad keys the way that add-apt-repository does. So I'm looking for a way to list all the PPA urls (like ppa:chromium-daily/stable) so that I can easily script a series of add-apt-repository commands to add them into a new installation gracefully. Short of dumping my bash history of course. Which might be feasible, depending on how far back that file goes back?

• would a composite design pattern be useful for group membership?

  I'm trying to think about the best way to handle group memberships on a website. People sign up and select checkboxes in a list of interests. Every week we send out interest-themed emails to those members that indicated that interest. however i store the information in the database, while i am working with the lists and generating lists of email addresses or manipulating group memberships, the composite design pattern looked interesting. it would be easy to populate the group, then do some aggregating functions that say... generate the list of email addresses based on the interests. but i'm not sure i'm seeing any other advantages. i do need something scalable, and flexible. thoughts?

• wrong GNOME logo at startup after 12.04 upgrade

  I'm not too expert of Ubuntu, but after a quite painful upgrade to version 12.04 (from 11.10), which first required to reinstall wireless drivers in order to work properly, and after an update from the Update Manager that I ran soon after the upgrade, I have a very strange problem coming up: at login page, where you choose your user among the list of the available ones, I can also see the list of available IDEs (Gnome, Gnome classic, Unity, Unity 2d, etc) but the funny thing is that the classic "foot" logo normally associated to the GNOME selection has now disappeared, and instead the "gear" logo (the one normally related to Unity, is on the side of the "gnome" choice. Note that the foot logo remains associated to the Gnome Classic item, and that the "gear" logo is still associated to the various versions of Unity available. This is not serious, since I can still access my GNOME or Unity environment, but I wonder if I can fix this up.

• How to view files from host? (running inside VMWare Fusion)

  I have just finished moving my development server into a Ubuntu 10.04 Server VM in VMWare Fusion 3. I have all of my mysql and tomcat stuff running and am now trying to connect to my actual site files which are stored on my mac under /{User Root}/Workspace/ColdFusion/. I know that normally you should be able to setup a shared folder in VMWare and find it under /mnt/hgfs/{Share Name}, but I can't find it. I am not sure if I have to manually mount it or what.

Am configured BIOS to boot second hard drive first (Ubuntu OS). and then i updated grub, so its shows windows 7 in the boot list. I can boot in to ubuntu, but i can't boot into windows 7, its shows error A disk read error occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart . then am configured BIOS again to load windows 7 first, it shows windows 7 and ubuntu in the boot list, windows 7 is working, but i can't boot into ubuntu.. Help to solve this problem.. i want dual boot from any one of the drive...

• Find Nearest Object

  I have a fairly sizable game engine created, and I'm adding some needed features, such as this, how do I find the nearest object from a list of points? In this case, I could simply use the Pythagorean theorem to find the distance, and check the results. I know I can't simply add x and y, because that's the distance to the object, if you only took right angle turns. However I'm wondering if there's something else I could do? I also have a collision system, where essentially I turn objects into smaller objects on a smaller grid, kind of like a minimap, and only if objects exist in the same gridspace do I check for collisions, I could do the same thing, only make the gridspace larger to check for closeness. (rather than checking every. single. object) however that would take additional setup in my base class and clutter up the already cluttered object. TL;DR Question: Is there something efficient and accurate that I can use to detect which object is closest, based on a list of points and sizes?
