• iPhone + alternative to drop downs

  Hello, I am developing native iPhone app. I have one requirement that, there are 5 drop downs in the screen, where user will select each value and based on that there will be a graph generated on screen. Also the drop downs are cascading, meaning that depending on value selected in upper drop down, the values in lower drop downs will change. If it was a web app than, I had no problem as we have drop downs available. But it is a native iPhone app and we don't have drop down in iPhone SDK. • ACL suggestions needed for a small light framework developed

  Hello all, I've developed a small framework that was needed for the firm that I work. The problem is I've not made a full level framework, as developers are finding tough time to understand what is what, So I made a simple structure with app/controllers, app/models, app/views so that they can clearly separate the code and can get used to higher frameworks later. All other things like components/modules/helpers are just coded for now in a file called app_functions.php. The above framework is derived from cakePHP, not all, but just the framework uses a modified code of dispatcher of cake. The models all work with normal sqls, and views with pure html using a template engine. Now I'm trying to develop a small application over it, it cameout well, but ACL is something which many versions of it have not proved that satisfactory. Can anybody suggest a good ACL. I've checked phpGACL(too heavy), Zend_ACL likely won't be compatible, Cakephp's ACL which wont fit in the structure,as we are not using cake's SQLs, as there too many queries hitting the database for one page display.

  I have setup the combination Codeigniter + HMVC + Twitter Bootstrap using this tutorial. I have created two modules named app and session. The app module contains the twitter bootstrap sample. When I click on About link, a new login page is displayed which is the session module configured using <?php echo Modules::run('session/session/index'); ?> The problem I am facing is that when I include the twitter bootstrap in both the views, the app module gets realigned and corousal doesnt work. How do I get the CSS to work with the session module ?

• Dynamically add new HTML elements on page load after getting JSON data from Web API

  I'm building an hybrid Android App using Phonegap/Apache Cordova. My app should get data from my web api. I'm using JSON to serve the data to the APP.   I am trying to integrated my IOS 7 application with Facebook SDK I following this official tutorial https://developers.facebook.com/docs/ios/getting-started which states Configure the .plist Follow these three steps: Create a key called FacebookAppID with a string value, and add the app ID there. Create a key called FacebookDisplayName with a string value, and add the Display Name you configured in the App Dashboard. Create an array key called URL types with a single array sub-item called URL Schemes. Give this a single item with your app ID prefixed with fb. This is used to ensure the application will receive the callback URL of the web-based OAuth flow. The finished .plist should look something like this: My question is where to put these values? They already put this image, maybe it helps you to answer me Edit The problem that I don't have any plist file in my framework in xcode and I can't add a new one because if i did, I would have to add all the variables that you see in the image but the tutorial just stated about some of them

  My app is forced to use a 3rd party module which will blue-screen Windows if two instances are started at the same time on the same machine. To work around the issue, my C# app has a mutex: static Mutex mutex = new Mutex(true, "{MyApp_b9d19f99-b83e-4755-9b11-d204dbd6d096}"); And I check if it's present - and if so I show an error message and close the app: bool IsAnotherInstanceRunning() { if (mutex.WaitOne(TimeSpan.Zero, true)) return (true); else return (false); } The problem is if two users can log in and open the application at the same time, and IsAnotherInstanceRunning() will return false. How do I get around this?

• Problem sending php variables to flash game, on facebook

  When I run the app for the first time in a session it works great i get all data form Database(if i logout, and enter with a diffrent account)the swf does not receive the variables. If i run manually the script typing the url address in the browser (typing: http://myserver.com/app/variables.php), and refresh the facebook app, it receives the data perfectly.How can i fix this?I used the URLVariables, URLRequest and flashvars but still with no succes.I asked for help on many forums but without succes, apparently there are many in my situation.Could this porblem be due the fact tha facebook does not allow flash to talk outside? Any help would be highly apreciated!Thanks!!

  How can I query the read/write ratio in Sql Server 2005? Are there any caveats I should be aware of? Perhaps it can be found in a DMV query, a standard report, a custom report (i.e the Performance Dashboard), or examining a Sql Profiler trace. I'm not sure exactly. Why do I care? I'm taking time to improve the performance of my web app's data layer. It deals with millions of records and thousands of users. One of the points I'm examining is database concurrency. Sql Server uses pessimistic concurrency by default--good for a write-heavy app. If my app is read-heavy, I might switch it to optimistic concurrency (isolation level: read uncommitted snapshot) like Jeff Atwood did with StackOverflow.

• Embed a JRE in a Windows executable?

  Suppose I want to distribute a Java application. Suppose I want to distribute it as a single executable. I could easily build a .jar with both the application and all its external dependencies in a single file (with some Ant hacking). Now suppose I want to distribute it as an .exe file on Windows. That's easy enough, given the nice tools out there (such as Launch4j and the likes). But suppose now that I also don't want to depend on the end user having the right JRE (or any JRE at all for that matter) installed. I want to distribute a JRE with my app, and my app should run on this JRE. It's easy enough to create a Windows installer executable, and embed a folder with all necessary JRE files in it. But then I'm distributing an installer and not a single-file app. Is there a way to embed both the application, and a JRE, into an .exe file acting as the application launcher (and not as an installer)?

• Editing a BrowserField's History

  I have a BrowserField in my app, which works great. It intercept NavigationRequests to links on my website which go to external sites, and brings up a new windows to display those in the regular Browser, which also works great. The problem I have is that if a user clicks a link to say "www.google.com", my app opens that up in a new browser, but also logs it into the BrowserHistory. So if they click back, away from google, they arrive back at my app, but then if they hit back again, the BrowserHistory would land them on the same page they were on (Because going back from Google doesn't move back in the history) I've tried to find a way to edit the BrowserField's BrowserHistory, but this doesn't seem possible. Short of creating my own class for logging the browsing history, is there anything I can do? If I didn't do a good job explaining the problem, don't hesitate for clarification. Thanks

• iphone: is there any secure way to establish 2-way SSL from an application

  Hi I need to establish a HTTPS 2-way SSL connection from my iPhone application to the customer's server. However I don't see any secure way to deliver the client side certificates to the application (it's an e-banking app, so security is really an issue). From what I have found so far the only way that the app would be able to access the certificate is to provide it pre-bundeled with the application itself, or expose an URL from which it could be fetched (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2037172/iphone-app-with-ssl-client-certs). The thing is that neither of this two ways prevent some third party to get the certificate, which if accepted as a risk eliminates the need for 2-way SSL (since anyone can have the client certificate). The whole security protocol should look like this: - HTTPS 2-way SSL to authenticate the application - OTP (token) based user registration (client side key pair generated at this step) - SOAP / WSS XML-Signature (requests signed by the keys generated earlier) Any idea on how to establish the first layer of security (HTTPS) ? regards

  I've added a proxy to a webservice to a VS2008/.NET 3.5 solution. When constructing the client .NET throws this error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'IMySOAPWebService' in the service model client configuaration section. This might be because no configuaration file was found for your application or because no end point element matching this contract could be found in the client element Searching for this error tells me to use the full namespace in the contract. Here's my app.config with full namespace: <client> <endpoint address="http://192.168.100.87:7001/soap/IMySOAPWebService" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="IMySOAPWebServicebinding" contract="Fusion.DataExchange.Workflows.IMySOAPWebService" name="IMySOAPWebServicePort" /> </client> I'm running XP local (I mention this because a number of Google hits mention win2k3) The app.config is copied to app.exe.config, so that is also not the problem. Any clues?

I don't know why, since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table. • Perl: Edit hyperlinks in nested tags that aren't on separate lines

  I have an interesting problem. I wrote the following perl script to recursively loop through a directory and in all html files for img/script/a tags do the following: Convert the entire url to lowercase Replace spaces and %20 with underscores The script works great except when an image tag in wrapped with an anchor tag. Is there a way to modify the current script to also be able to manipulate the links for nested tags that are not on separate lines? • Silverlight MergedDictionaries and subclassing of Application

  We have subclassed the Silverlight Application class to add some additional functionality and then use this in multiple projects. The problem is that the Resources defined in App.xaml do not seem to get loaded. Has anyone else seen this and/or have some insight?   I don't want to have to add the EmulateIE7 meta tag for every page if I dont have to. My default.htm is a FRAMESET page so can I just add the meta tag to my default FRAMESET page and my site stay in IE=EmulateIE7 mode for each new page that loads in the frameset? Thanks

I want to do something like: for sandwich in request.POST['sandwiches']: print "%s on %s with %s is yummy!" % (sandwich['meat'], sandwich['bread'], sandwich['topping']) But I don't seem to have a list of dicts when my data arrives at my client app.

• Disable Ctrl-Alt-Del and shutdown for kiosk

  I finished an app for a client. After talking for a bit he would like me to do an additional app or recommend one for their kiosk. The client would like a way to prevent the computer from shutting down. They like to disable Ctrl+Alt+Delete (also so processes cant be killed), Alt+F4 to close their browser and no windows button to make the start menu pop up for the user to click or use keyboard to shutdown. Obviously there should be a way to unlock it I told them i'll look into it but they really don't need it. They are using Windows 7. Is there a WinAPI call I can use or an already existing app or a lib to do this?

  I have a feature in my web app like I have to send mails from the server to many email ids (some kind of notification stuff) my web application is implemented in struts2. Possibly I have to use javamail api i guess. I am completely new to this javamail and sending mail from server. what basic steps I need to do to setup a mail server in windows, contact the server from my java web app. What api i should I use ? The web has very limited tutorials on javamail and they are damn complicated too. Is there any other api other than javamail by which I can send mail from my java struts2 web app. thanks

• No GPS updates on Galaxy S3

  I'm developing a GPS tracker and it works like a charm. But a couple of weeks ago a customer of me (a trackage company) bought Samsung Galaxy S3 for his drivers. And since that we have really strange behaviour of my app. The app receives location updates from GPS receiver, but after some hours of work it doesn't receive any location updates. I have registered the app for onGpsStatusChanged() too and in this time onGpsStatusChanged() was called (I see that GPS receiver have 10-17 satellites!), but the method onLocationChanged() was not called! After the service restart (=re-registering of LocationListener) it works again. It is really strange. It seems that after some hours of work the GPS reciever is not in the mood for calling onLocationChanged() :) Any idea what may be wrong?

• How to avoid piracy in iPhone apps by server side validation?

  As par my app requirement, there is a couple of scenarios that I need to handle. Scenario 1: To avoid piracy, I want to include some piece of code, whose job is sending both IMEI and Serial number of IPhone. Scenario 2: At server side, I've a database, which has a list of both IMEI and Serial No info. Here I wanna validate both IMEI and Serial numbers. If both are not matched then I can make sure that the app is pirated. Idea seems good. But I don't know how to handle these two scenarios in my app. Any help is greatly appreciated.
