jQuery fadeout a div that's revealed by php and not Javascript?

Seems like this might be easy, but from reading other SO answers there are a number of ways for it to possibly work: I have the "thanks" div below that shows when a php form is sucessfully submitted: <?php if(isset($emailSent) && $emailSent == true) { ?> <div class="thanks"></div> The page does not reload after the form is submitted; the php for the form is included in the page header, the php above is in <body>, and when the form is submitted, the "thanks" div appears. Question: How can the div be faded out (or simply removed) after a few seconds? Document ready doesn't seem like it would work because the page is not reloaded. Can jQuery detect the appearance of the div and then start the fadeout timer? If possible, I'd like to stay with the php form and not move to a jQuery form.

Rails and MongoDB with MongoMapper

I'm new to Rails development and I'm starting with MongoDB also. I have been following this Railscast tutorial about complex forms with Rails but I'm using MongoDB as my database. I'm having no problems inserting documents with it's childs and retrieving the data to the edit form, but when I try to update it I get this error undefined method `assert_valid_keys' for false:FalseClass this is my entity class class Project include MongoMapper::Document key :name, String, :required => true key :priority, Integer many :tasks after_update :save_tasks def task_attributes=(task_attributes) task_attributes.each do |attributes| if attributes[:id].blank? tasks.build(attributes) else task = tasks.detect { |t| t.id.to_s == attributes[:id].to_s } task.attributes = attributes end end end def save_tasks tasks.each do |t| t.save(false) end end end Does anyone knows whats happening here? Firefox DOMContentLoaded event problem

Hi, i've created a script that works with the Dom so it has to wait until the Dom is ready before execute every operation. I want that this script can be included in two ways: In the head tag so that it is loaded before the Dom is ready. I've used document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded",function(){...},false) for this and it works well Loaded dinamically when the Dom is already loaded. In this case the script doesn't work because for some reasons if the Dom is already loaded the DOMContentLoaded event isn't fired So i want to know, is there a way to check if the Dom is already loaded so that the script can execute the code without using the DOMContentLoaded event?

Why does an onclick property set with setAttribute fail to work in IE?

Ran into this problem today, posting in case someone else has the same issue. var execBtn = document.createElement('input'); execBtn.setAttribute("type", "button"); execBtn.setAttribute("id", "execBtn"); execBtn.setAttribute("value", "Execute"); execBtn.setAttribute("onclick", "runCommand();"); Turns out to get IE to run an onclick on a dynamically generated element, we can't use setAttribute. Instead, we need to set the onclick property on the object with an anonymous function wrapping the code we want to run. execBtn.onclick = function() { runCommand() }; BAD IDEAS: You can do execBtn.setAttribute("onclick", function() { runCommand() }); but it will break in IE in non-standards mode according to @scunliffe. You can't do this at all execBtn.setAttribute("onclick", runCommand() ); because it executes immediately, and sets the result of runCommand() to be the onClick attribute value, nor can you do execBtn.setAttribute("onclick", runCommand);

What I am trying to accomplish is using jQuery UI dialog method from my own JavaScript source code file. I have this kind of links in the Site.Master <script src="/Scripts/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/Scripts/jquery.validate.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/Scripts/jquery-ui.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/Scripts/Common.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Common.js is my own helper file. jQuery works fine there, but when I try to call for example: $(document).ready(function() { $("#dialog").dialog(); }); I'll get "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method" Any ideas why this happens? jQuery Works fine, but jQuery UI doesn't.

Jquery live not working in IE

Hi, I have some code that works fine in FF but not in IE. I have read other posts saying that the Jquery live method does not support change events but I am using a click event. Here is my code, it is inside $(document).ready(function(): $("a").live("click", function(e) { alert("link clicked"); //do stuff }); If FF the alert is fired but not in IE. When I use $("a").click it works fine, the problem is that I need to the function to be applied to links that do not exist when the page is first loaded (they will be created via ajax calls at a later stage). Do I have any options here. We are using jquery-1.4.1.min.js. Thanks in advance

RESTful web services - best way to return result of an operation?

I am designing a RESTful API and I would like to know what the most RESTful way is to return details about an operation. E.g. an operation on a resource occurs when some data is POSTed to a URL. HTTP status codes will indicate either success or failure for the operation. But apart from success/failure I need to indicate some other info to the client, such as an ID number. So my question is, should the ID number be returned in an XML document in the response content, or should it be returned in some custom HTTP header fields? Which is more in line with the principles of REST? Or am I free to choose.

jQuery getScript and Google Maps API Problem

moss 2007 workflows

Hi, I'm new to MOSS 2007. I need create a workflow to look at a document's review date (a select list predefined to values of 3 , 6 or 12 months) and send an email if the review date has passed. So the workflow needs to get the documents review date then convert this to date time add to the created date if greater than current date send an email. Digital signature integration with software written in java

hi everyone, i'm extremely rookie on this security field, so please forgive if my questions are dumb. i am asked to convert and migrate couple "Lotus Forms" forms to our software that is written in java. One thing in forms that bother me is digital signatures. These forms can be signed by digital signatures, probably generated by "Silanis Approve-it". as i have said before, i dont have much knowledge about this technology. and strangely couldnt find any tutorial or example of integrating digital signature and java. So what are the possibilities here ? how my code read a digital signature, sign a document with this signature? There should be an API or something that is provided by vendors right :)

Programmaticaly grabbing text from a web page that is dynamically generated.

There is a website I am trying to pull information from in perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it! Flash Hates Me. Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference

I simply create a movie clip, put it on the stage and give it an instance name of char. Here's my document class, simple as can be: public class Test extends MovieClip { public function Test() { char.x = 1315; char.y = 459; addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, mouseListen); } private function mouseListen(e:Event) { char.x = mouseX; char.y = mouseY; } } And I get this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at com.me::Test/::mouseListen() How in the world is it possible that it knows what "char" is in the constructor but not in the mouseListen function? What else could it be?

get height on a block of latex output

Hello, I am trying to determine how to get the height on a block of latex output (not the whole document, and not the code..but rather a block of output). As an example of what I am trying to accomplish: i were to have the latex code $\sum_{i=0}^\infty \frac{1}{n}\infty$ \newline hello world \newline hello universe its output would be something like 2 inches high. Of course, the height of the above block of text is dependent on a number of things-font, margin size, etc, as changing any of these parameters changes how many inches that output would be. wordpress permalinks

I set my wordpress permalink structure to /%postname%/ but now when I go to a page other than the home page (for example if I went to somelink.com/about) I lose all javascript references. I think this happens because the links to the js files are no longer right as it is in the imaginary folder "about". UIWebView in UITableView hide cells

I have a UIWebView in UITableView, I have this on storyboard: The UIImageView is my future NavBar and the UIWebView is in the UITableView, I have this configuration: -UIImageView -UITableView -UIWebView -UITableViewCell When the UIWebView load the pages (I Have local pages) I want that it takes dynamically their size and for this I have this code: [detailWebView setFrame:CGRectMake(0.,0.,detailWebView.frame.size.width,[[detailWebView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:@"document.body.scrollHeight;"] intValue])]; The problem is when the loaded page is long, my UIWebBrowser hide the cells and didn't push them to get cells at the bottom. I don't understand why I have this, when I resize the UIWebBrowser in the storyboard I don't have this problem but I want to do it programmatically Thanks,

When to use a module, and when to use a class

I am currently working through the Gregory Brown Ruby Best Practices book. Early on, he is talking about refactoring some functionality from helper methods on a related class, to some methods on module, then had the module extend self. Hadn't seen that before, after a quick google, found out that extend self on a module lets methods defined on the module see each other, which makes sense. Now, my question is when would you do something like this module StyleParser extend self def process(text) ... end def style_tag?(text) ... end end and then refer to it in tests with @parser = Prawn::Document::Text::StyleParser as opposed to just using a class with some class methods on it? is it so that you can use it as a mixin? or are there other reasons I'm not seeing?

Why is this exception thrown when trying to match this regex in Java?

Excel 2003 VSTO convert to PDF

I have an excel workbook vsto solution that needs to generate a pdf copy of one of its sheets as output. I have a license for abcdpdf .net and tried outputting to html, then using abcpdf to convert the html to pdf, but the excel html markup tries to emulate excel with all 4 worksheets with horrible markup. It also messes up the colors (silver background across entire workbook). Any suggestions? Here is the code I'm currently using to generate the html file: FileInfo excelDoc = new FileInfo(Globals.ThisWorkbook.Path + @"\Document.html"); Globals.Sheet2.SaveAs(excelDoc.FullName, Excel.XlFileFormat.xlHtml, missing, missing, false, false, Excel.XlSaveAsAccessMode.xlNoChange, missing, missing, missing); If I hack away some of the html header tags manually, I can get abcdpf to accept it, but the formatting is a bit off and this solution seems sub optimal.
