  I would like to set all virtualhosts on my server down for maintenance for some time. The temporary page should contain something like sorry, the page www.xxx.com is down for maintenance. you can see the cached version here: Then the trick: the user should then see the cached page from a cache like googlecache or similar for the requested page as long as the server is down. This would show the correct content on pages, that are static anyway and give the visitor the needed content in many cases, while I can shut down mysql and other services that would usually be needed to show that pages. How can I set a global page on all virtualhosts, that parses the original requested URL through PHP?

  Hi We are looking into putting a hardware firewall into a data center to protect our rack of servers. We are using the servers for terminal services and we have 2 x 1GB connections to the Internet. We have about 50 servers supporting about 250 users which will grow very soon to 500 users. We plan to purchase 2 hardware firewalls to provide HA. Do you think the Sonicwall NSA 240 with Total Secure is a good match for this in terms of performance and protection (from spyware, virus etc?) or is there a better purchase?   I work on a project for which I use an Ubuntu server vm on an Ubuntu host. The VM runs all the services / webapps through haproxy and nginx and serves it on the domain (xyz.com). I manually modify my resolv.conf to use the VMs IP address as the nameserver and I can run my app on the host browser. The problem is I am modifying an auto-generated file (resolv.conf) and I need to do it each time. • inetmgr missing after vista iis7 install

  I have installed IIS7 on Vista with all options from Programs and Features->Turn on/off windows features. I have searched for inetmgr accross the whole system with no luck. It is also not present in C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv. The IIS Admin Service is shown as running in the list of all services. Might anyone know what the problem is? My initial problem before this was that after installing IIS and trying to view any arbitrary page via localhost/*filename*, i recieved the error HTTP Error 404.4 - Not Found The resource you are looking for does not have a handler associated with it.

• Unable to logoff, disconnect, or reset terminal server user in production environment

  I'm looking for some ideas on how to disconnect, logoff, or reset a user's session in a 2008 Terminal Server (unable to login as the user either as it is completely locked-up). This is a production environment, so rebooting the server or doing something system-wide is out of the question for now. Any Powershell tricks to help us with this? We've tried to disconnect, log the user off and reset the session as well as killing the session's processes too, directly from the same terminal server (from the task manager, Terminal Services Manager and the Resource Monitor) with no results. Help! UPDATE: We ended up rebooting the server as no other attempts that we could think of worked. I'll leave this question open hoping someone might have more information about this one issue, and it's potential fixes

  I set up this computer with a Local account. I have linked it to my 'primary' Microsoft account - which is used in the Mail and Store apps. There are no other accounts linked at this time. I wish to use the Messaging app with a different Microsoft account. However, Add an account only lets me add a Facebook account! I don't want to remove or change my primary Microsoft account, since I do not wish to use the Messaging account with any other services.

• Technicolor TG582n with external DHCP server [on hold]

  We have a small home setup with a Technicolor TG582n on Plusnet ISP. We have a Samba4 DC with DNS forwarding enabled. The DC forwards to the Technicolor. However, the client machines have their DNS settings manually set. This is an annoyance when using laptops on other networks. We would like to have DHCP handled on the server machine, such that when a client connects to the Technicolor, it gets its IP and DNS information from the DHCP server, eliminating the need to manually set adapter DNS settings. However, I cannot find an option to disable DHCP on the Technicolor and am not completely clear on how one would point DHCP services to the server from the Technicolor if there were the option. So, how would one make the Technicolor use an external server for DHCP leases?

  I have linux apache mysql and php server. My website uses the php mail() function and the server's postfix server to email other people. I successfully installed SPF and DKIM on my server to reduce the likelihood of my website's email-outs from ending up in people's spam boxes. In my research, I stumbled on Domain Keys which seems to be a "historical" version of DKIM. Do the big web mail services like Google, Yahoo and Hotmail still use Domain Keys? If not, then maybe I don't need to install it?

• CentOS 6: Can not start NFS

  I am unable to start the NFS service. When starting there is no error. But the services are stopt after it. No messages at all in /var/log/messages. Same happens to rpcbind serivce. Any idea what this could be? I also tried to disable iptables. The script has read and execute privileged for the internet guest account; and, I've added read/execute privileges to the whole D:\PHP.   We need to build out a server running Windows 2008 R2 Standard that can allow up to 10 simultaneous RDP/Terminal Services connections and I'm a little confused about how the CAL licenses work. From one source I was told I needed 10 "server CALs" and an additional 10 "RDP CALs" (total of 20 CALs). From another, I was told I just needed the 10 "RDP CALs", which implicitly came with the server CAL. The Microsoft licensing website (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/licensing-rds.aspx) seems to support scenario #1, but it is still not real clear what those server CALs are needed for. Also, can we use the 2 "built-in" RDP clients, meaning we only need to purchase 8 CALs to reach a total of 10?

• Replacing sick NTP server source and re-synching (with internal time currently 2 minutes late)

  One of the external NTP servers (the primary one--currently) we're using as source seems to not be responding to NTP calls. Unfortunately, on our core router (Cisco 6509), the NTP functionality hasn't switched to the secondary NTP external server as it was expected. As a result, our core router which is pretty much our main internal NTP source is 2 minutes late. I'm planning to fix the external router issue by making the external NTP source be the one currently working. I'm wondering, how much will a 2 minute change affect my users and services? Specially since these days, we're heavily relying on certificate-based authentication. We're a Windows/Cisco shop. • Squid Proxy Server: limit total bandwidth

  Hello my dear friends! We have a marvellous squid proxy with dansguardian for filetering and they both work just great. Is there any easy way to limit the total bandwidth usage? I'd like to set the max amount of squid users internet use to 1200 since our total band is 2000 and I need the rest to ensure other services such as voip to work without hiccups related to huge downloads on the "internet side" of our connection and similar issues. I mean a total squid bandwidth limitation and not a user-based. Fair thanks to everybody.

• Windows Azure openSUSE: rcnetwork not starting

  I have a Linux VM in Azure, created from their default image. My problem is simply that the init script network doesn't look like to start, so dependent services (apache, postfix...) won't start. If I run yast runlevel and try to start postfix it asks me to start network first: if I accept, network is started without errors and then postfix is started. While network is configured to start on boot, it just doesn't appear to have started. Anyway, SSH connections work fine. Currently, I had to edit my init scripts and remove network from the Required-Start list, but that didn't work for posftix (even after running systemctl --system daemon-reload). How can I fix all this?

• TTL and traceroute showing different values for same domain

  y am i getting two different output for tracert and ping. Ping Result showing total hops of 20 and tracert showing 8. default ttl value on my linux machine 64,icmp echo reply ttl value 44. 64-44=20 but tracert is showing only 8 hops. What can be the reason? If tracert is implemented using ttl then why am i getting different values for same domain.no matter how many times i tried. Fo google and google services,ttl value and tracrt are same,but for other domains its different.

  Hi all, I'm currently evaluating the feasibility of using VirtualBox (or VMWare) to deploy the follow project to 10 sites Windows XP MSSQL 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services JBoss to run 1 in-house software that mostly query master data (customers/products) and feed to other software Why I want to do this ? Because the IT staffs in my 10 sites are not capable enough and the steps taken to setup those "in-house project" are also complicated What are the cons I can forsee ? Need extra power to run that virtualbox instance The IT staffs won't be much knowledgeable 'bout how to install the stuffs Cost (license for VirtualBox in commercial environment as well as extra OS license) I really seek your inputs on the pro/con of this approach, or any links that I can read further Thanks a lot

• Active Directory LDS Structure Best Practices

  I'm looking for guidance in structuring an LDS directory and finding only best practices targeted at Domain Services. Does anyone here have references for the hierarchical structure we set up in the directory? I'm interested in small items, like whether to name the top node with "DC" tags or "O" tags, etc. E.g., should it be "DC=CompanyName,DC=local" when we're not actually using any specific domain? Shouldn't it be "O=CompanyName"? And I'm interested in whether this question is even worth considering.

• Why is my hosts file not working?

  I've been using the hosts file to for local website development, and it's recently stopped working. No entries other than localhost resolve. I've simplified to test, so it now contains only 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost 127.0.0.1 test.dev localhost responds to ping, test.dev does not. The file is called hosts with no extension It has no trailing spaces It's saved in C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc which matches the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DataBasePath Oddly, despite UAC being on, I can edit, delete and save the file without admin permissions No proxy is being used, PC is not connected to network for testing Stopping the DNS Client service seemed to resolve the issue for a few minutes, test.dev briefly resolved but doesn't any more. Only firewall is Windows' Machine has been restarted. Is there anything else I should try?

• Kill xserver from command line (init 3/5 does not work)

  Hi, I'm running Linux Mint 10, although I've had this same issue with other variants of Linux. I've been told/found while researching that if the X server hangs or otherwise errors, one can drop to a root prompt, usually at another tty, and execute init 3 (to drop to single user mode) and then init 5 to return to the default, graphical session. Needless to say, I've tried this before in multiple configurations on multiple machines to no avail. The only feedback I receive form executing those two commands is a listing of VMWare services (from a kernel module) that are stopped and then restarted. Note: If I run startx (either before or after init 3), then I am told that the xserver is still running and that I should remove /tmp/.X0-lock. Having tried that, it removes that error message, but claims that the xserver cannot be attached as another instance is running. How do I kill the xserver completely? Can I killall some process name?
