    I have a UIDatePicker object and I am setting it up as follows but for some reason my hours field is disabled on the current date but minutes are not. Not exactly sure what I am missing, any help would be appreciated.   • Compile C# into objective-C

    Now that monotouch is being banned, I was wondering if there is a way to translate C# (or some other modern language for that matter) into objective-C? I won't mind using apple's api as long as I don't have to declare my variables in 3-4 stages (ivar-property-synthesize-dealloc). All I want is a less wordy language to concentrate on my intent and not on the compiler syntax. unfortunately apple in its arrogance thinks objective-c is a "modern" language and if you are looking for an alternative (monotouch) it's because you are incapable of coding. also if you don't find programming in itunes; sorry, xcode enjoyable, it is not because there are better alternatives, it's because you are stupid. anyway back to my original question: can it be done?

    Hello, another issue where I seem to have found an solution for ObjC but not MonoTouch. I want a NSUrl from an URL (as string). The string may contain whitespace and backslashes. Why is NSUrl returning null for such string, even though these are valid urls in a browser? For example: NSUrl foo = NSUrl.FromString(@"http://google.com/search?\query"); foo == null Any suggestions?

  • Removing Divider Line from UISplitViewController

    Guys, I know a similar question exists but the thread seems to be inactive, and I really would like this question to be answered. It's been annoying me for a few days now. I'm wondering how to remove the divider line between the Master and Detail view in the UISplitViewController. I know its possible to remove/hide/cover it up because I see some apps in the store without that line. I have tried setting backgroundColor to clearColour on my views but to no avail. So SO community, you're my only hope!

    Hello, I recently found this very interesting article on APNS and Emoji characters: EASY APNS - Just for fun It contains a list with all supported Emojis. However, I couldn't get them to display in my push notifications. All I get is the code, not the image. For example, if I add \ue415 (a smiley) to my message, I never see the image, just the code. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

    Hi, All the applications I have ever seen, that use UINavigationBars, have the UINavigationBar right at the top of the app. If you want to use a UISearchBar then it's usually in the 'header' of the UITableView such as this... What I would like to do is to put a UISearchBar object above/outside of the UINavigationBar/Controller, but i've been having some problems doing this. Firstly, is what I want to achieve even possible? What would the easiest way to do this be? Starting with the navigation based application seems to make the navigationbar/view un-resizeable!     I'd like to "darken" a UIView by a certain amount. Right now, I'm doing the darkening like this: UIView *overlay = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:mainView.bounds]; overlay.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; overlay.alpha = 0.5f; [mainView addSubview:overlay]; Unfortunately, this also adds a semi-transparent black overlay to parts of mainView that are transparent. Is there any way to only darken the non-transparent sections?

I have a UITableView that in 'normal' mode, show a UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator meaning if the user taps the row, another list is showed, like HIG says: "Disclosure indicator. When this element is present, users know they can tap anywhere in the row to see the next level in the hierarchy or the choices associated with the list item. Use a disclosure indicator in a row when selecting the row results in the display of another list. Don’t use a disclosure indicator to reveal detailed information about the list item; instead, use a detail disclosure button for this purpose." When the user tap the edit button in the top bar of the UITableView, I think I have to change the disclosure because if the user tap it, a view for changing the information of the current row is showed (see the bold line above), again, like HIG says: "Detail disclosure button. Users tap this element to see detailed information about the list item. (Note that you can use this element in views other than table views, to reveal additional details about something; see “Detail Disclosure Buttons” for more information.) In a table view, use a detail disclosure button in a row to display details about the list item. Note that the detail disclosure button, unlike the disclosure indicator, can perform an action that is separate from the selection of the row. For example, in Phone Favorites, tapping the row initiates a call to the contact; tapping the detail disclosure button in the row reveals more information about the contact." Have I miss understood the HIG, or I really do have to change the disclosure style in edit mode of UITableView? If yes, how I can intercept the edit mode when the user taps the Edit button?     I have a question regarding setting up a custom delegate class for use with UITableView. What I have done is as follows: Setup a new class (in sperate *.h and *.m files for the class) Conformed that new class to the <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> protocols Added the required methods. Created a pointer to the new object using @property and IBOutlet. In InterfaceBuilder created and assigned an object template to my new class Assigned the dataSource and delegate connections. This all works fine. My question is if I don't want to use interfaceBuilder to setup and instantiate my new delegate class directly in Xcode how do I go about doing that? More specifically how would I: Instantiate the delegate class, would that be created / owned by the controller? Set the dataSource and delegate connections? What is the best way of doing this? any help / information is much appreciated. Gary

    I'm using a standard animation block to flip over from one view to another, like this: [UIView beginAnimations:@"FlipAnimation" context:self]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:self.view cache:NO]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:NO]; [containerView exchangeSubviewAtIndex:1 withSubviewAtIndex:0]; [UIView commitAnimations]; During the animation's course, the "from" view darkens as it begins to flip over. Since I'm using nearly identical views on both sides which don't cover the whole view (it's meant to represent a physical card being flipped over), this looks absolutely horrible. Using [UIColor clearColor] as the backgroundColor property for every associated UIView didn't help one bit as transparent areas seem to get darkened as well. Any ideas on how I could get rid of this darkening effect?

    Hello, all ... I want to determine when the index (transparent alphabet) along the side of a UITableView is tapped. To be more specific, I have a sectioned UITableView that has an index, and said index does the right thing, but when the UITableView's -scrollViewDidScroll method is called, I want to be able to determine if said scrolling was the result of the user tapping the index, vs. dragging or swiping the table view itself. If anyone has ideas on how to do this, i'd love to hear about them :-) Regards, John

    How can I use both of these in the same UIView correctly? I have one custom subclassed CALayer in which I draw a pattern within drawInContext I have a another in which I set an overlay PNG image as the contents. I have a third which is just a background. How do I overlay all 3 of these items? [self.layer addSublayer:bottomLayer]; // this line is the problem [squaresLayer drawInContext:viewContext]; [self.layer addSublayer:imgLayer]; The other 2 by themselves draw correctly if I do them in that order. No matter where I try and put bottomLayer, it always prevents squaresLayer from drawing. The reason I need 3 layers is I intend to animate the colors in the background and custom layers. The top layer is just a graphical overlay.

  • Handling multiple UISwitch controls in a table view without using tag property

    I have a table view controller with multiple UISwitch controls in them. I set the delegate to the table view controller with the same action for all switches. I need to be able to determine what switch was changed, so I create an array of strings that contains the name of each switch. The indexes in the array will be put in the tag property of each UISwitch. However, I'm ready using the tag property for something else, namely to find the right control in the cell in cellForRowAtIndexPath with viewWithTag! (There are several things I need to set within each cell.) So, am I thinking along the right lines here? I feel I'm rather limited in how I find out exactly which UISwitch changed its value, so I can do something useful with it.

Using these urls can I make image url by appending any data values getting from the parser. http://musicbrainz.org/ws/1/artist/f27ec8db-af05-4f36-916e-3d57f91ecf5e?type=xml&inc=url-rels+artist-rels using these url i get data and set of urls.They are not providing image url or thumbnail.   • Issues dismissing keyboard conditionally

    I have an app that has a username and password field. I want to validate the input before the the user is allowed to stop editing the field. To do that, I'm using the textFieldShouldEndEditing delegate method. If the input doesn't validate I display a UIAlertView. This approach works as advertised - the user cannot leave the field if the input doesn't validate. To have the done button on the keyboard dismiss the keyboard, I call resignFirstResponder on the textfield. The issue I have is the alert is being called twice. How do I keep the alert from showing twice? edit for clarification What is happening is that the alert appears, then another alert appears. I then have to dismiss both windows to fix the input. But which options I have, depends on a lot of situations. How could I dynamically compose such a bitmask? Is this valid?
