• When is a Transient-scope object Deactivated in Ninject?

  When an object in Ninject is bound with InTransientScope(), the object isn't placed into the cache, since it's, er, transient and not scoped to anything. When done with the object, I can call kernel.Release(obj); this passes through to the Cache where it retrieves the cached item and calls Pipeline.Deactivate using the cached entry. But since transient objects aren't cached, this doesn't happen. I haven't been able to figure out where (or who) performs the deactivation for transient objects. Or is the assumption that transient objects are only ever activated, and that if I want a deactivateable object, I need to use some other scope?

• living column in instruments

  In the context of allocations what exactly does the living column mean? Does it mean the number of times an object was created or does it mean how many instances of an object there is? I ask because I'm testing going in and out of a view. When I enter the view I create a class "myClass". When I exit the view I nil "myClass" and release it. If I go in and out of the view 6 times for example the living column in instruments for "myClass" says 6. Is this normal or is it not being released properly?

  Hello all, I am storing the images in database. I get the NSData and create an image from it. Now I want to crop or draw a smaller image of the existing image in database which I am getting from the querry. I dont want to cache the images since I am using them in bulk and want to release them as soon as the view being displayed where the images are used is popped up. Is there any efficient solution to make sure that images dont consume memory at the background once their use is over... I will appreciate the lines of code for this. Tnx in advance.

• Static keyboard in uitableview

  I have a UITableView that holds just two cells with a textfield in each. As my tableview is just for editing the text in these textfields I always want the keyboard to be shown static in the bottom of the screen. So in viewDidLoad I set the first textfield to become first responder. Something I have noticed though is that when I push the UITableViewController into the UINavigationController the keyboard show up a little bit slower so you can see it animate into the screen. It would be much better if it was there already there when the uitableview shows up. I also tried making the textfield first responder before pushing it as recommended but that didn't made the keyboard show at all: MyTableViewController *myTableViewController = [[MyTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MyTableViewController" bundle:nil]; [myTableViewController.textField becomeFirstResponder]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:myTableViewController animated:YES]; [myTableViewController release]; How can I accomplish this?   This is ok: Class<? extends String> stringClass = "a".getClass(); But this gets error: <T> void f(T obj) { Class<? extends T> objClass = obj.getClass(); } I know I can cast it like: <T> void f(T obj) { @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") Class<? extends T> objClass = (Class<? extends T>) obj.getClass(); } But why the previous error? Will the next release of Java 7 will support such usage?

• Writing an installer using codigniter

  I'm just about finished my first release of automailer, a program I've been working on for a while now. I've just got to finish writing the installer. Its job is to rewrite the codigniter configs from templates. I've got the read/write stuff working, but I'd like to be able to test the server credentials given by the user without codingiter throwing a system error if they're wrong. Is there a function other than mysql_connect that I can use to test a connection that will return true or false and won't make codeigniter have a fit?

• GNU General Public License (v2): can a company use the licensed software for free?

  When a library is released under the GPL v2, can a company use it internally for free? If they develop software based on it, do they have to release it under the GPL, even if they don't distribute it? Can they make money by using (not distributing) internally developed software that links to the GPL'ed library, without any compensation for the author? I am looking for a software license that only allows non-commercial uses (copy, modify, link to); the resulting derived programs must also be free for non-commercial uses. Is there any software license that does this for non-commercial uses, and prevents any commercial use (including using the software in order to make money)? It looks like the Creative Commons licenses are flexible enough to do something close to that, but I've read against using them for software. What do you think?

• What is an appropriate way to programmatically exit an application?

  I am evaluating user inputs as commands for my application. If the user presses Q, or q, and then hits enter, the application quits and execution terminates. Is there a proper context, or best practices on how to do that? I do not have any resources to release, or anything like that. Should I just use System.exit(0);? Is there a recommended way to do that? • Getting 'choice' to work in Highline Ruby Gem without error and getting variable from it

  I'm having a couple of problems using Highline in Ruby, and trying to get the choice element, detailed here, to work. At the moment the following code produces the error "error: wrong number of arguments (0 for 1). Use --trace to view backtrace" How do I get the variable out of choice? At the moment I have the 'do' setup, but I have no idea about how to get the variable the user has chosen out and into a variable for use elsewhere.   I want to launch a method every time when user just highlights a cell (doesn't select it) in UITableView. Could you tell me please, how is it possible to do this ? I want to do it because I have a custom cell with a pictures on it and I want to change pictures every time when user highlights the cell. UPD: By highlight I mean that user just highlights a cell and don't release the finger from it. By select I mean when didSelectRowAtIndexPath is being launched (so the user releases the finger from the cell after he presses on it)

• Can a thread call wait() on two locks at once in Java (6)

  I've just been messing around with threads in Java to get my head around them (it seems like the best way to do so) and now understand what's going on with synchronize, wait() and notify(). I'm curious about whether there's a way to wait() on two resources at once. I think the following won't quite do what I'm thinking of: synchronized(token1) { synchronized(token2) { token1.wait(); token2.wait(); //won't run until token1 is returned System.out.println("I got both tokens back"); } } In this (very contrived) case token2 will be held until token1 is returned, then token1 will be held until token2 is returned. The goal is to release both token1 and token2, then resume when both are available (note that moving the token1.wait() outside the inner synchronized loop is not what I'm getting at). A loop checking whether both are available might be more appropriate to achieve this behaviour (would this be getting near the idea of double-check locking?), but would use up extra resources - I'm not after a definitive solution since this is just to satisfy my curiosity.

• What's some simple F# code that generates the .tail IL instruction?

  I'd like to see the .tail IL instruction, but the simple recursive functions using tail calls that I've been writing are apparently optimized into loops. I'm actually guessing on this, as I'm not entirely sure what a loop looks like in Reflector. I definitely don't see any .tail opcodes though. I have "Generate tail calls" checked in my project's properties. I've also tried both Debug and Release builds in Reflector. • Internet Pings but Does Not Load

  From what I've been seeing and been doing my research for the past two days, many people have been having the same issues throughout the years, however, this is the first time I've encountered this issue and many of the specific workarounds or fixes have not worked for me. I've been trying to work through this for 24 hours straight now, but to no avail so many thanks to those that can help. On Monday night, got home from work; surfing the internet for half an hour, everything was fine as always. Just after half an hour, my Internet got very sluggish and then it died completely. I thought it might have been the an update I just put through in terms of Windows Update that said was a critical update for MSE, as the same thing happened a few years ago. I did a System Restore to two different dates that were in the past two weeks, nothing. Uninstalled MSE and disabled Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall: Nothing. Reset IE Options, Reset Winsock, Dumping DNS, many of the other command prompt screens to reset items: Nothing. Reset the modem: Nothing. What DID work, however, was a ping test to Yahoo. The ping test worked, saying all four packets was recieved, yet nothing else popped up. LAN and CenturyLink said everything worked on their end and that everything was connected properly, as well as the speeds working fine. CenturyLink said in their notes that they thought Port 80 was blocked. I went and put in the Firewall to allow Port 80 but it didn't make any difference whatsoever. I remembered I had a spare modem laying around and I switched them up, both modem and the cords - nothing. I then hooked it up to my netbook to see if that would work, as it usually does - connection didn't work there either. Like I said, it's been about 24 hours now and this is increasingly frustrating, as I've tried all solutions (While browsing through 10 search results pages on my phone) suggested and still nothing. Any suggestions and tricks would be greatly appreciated! Here's my specs: Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium Intel Core 2 Duo 3.14 Ghz 4 GB Kingston DDR2 RAM eVGA nForce 750i SLI eVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB ISP: CenturyLink No router Modem: CenturyLink 660 Series Hardwired connection PLEASE NOTE: This is the only computer I have (Like I said, the netbook solution didn't work), so downloading programs and such is not an option til I get to other computers somewhere else, like right now. Unless someone knows of a way of copying/pasting a file in Windows and then transferring said info to an Android smartphone, this is gunna take a while haha. Patience is requested.

• working with files on "start without debugging"

  I'm programming in C, and I have the following problem: I use fopen and try to read from a csv file, that is currently storred in the folder of the exe file of the program. the program works fine in debug mode and release mode, but when I try to run the program in "start without debugging" on visual studio 2008 express edition, the program stops working and windows is showing a message: "*.exe has stopped working. a program caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I've tried running the program on several computers, and it's the same. another information I can give you is that if I enter the full path of the file (C:....file.csv) - then is works just fine, without any problem. I know I didn't write any code, but I hope someone will have an idea why this can happend. thanks is advance.

• VS2010 (older) installer project - two or more objects have the same target location.

  This installer project was created back in 2004 and upgraded ever since. There are two offending dll files, which produce a total of 4 errors. I have searched online for this warning message and did not find a permanent fix (I did manage to make it go away once until I have done something like a clean, or built in Release, and then in Debug). I also tried cleaning, and then refreshing the dependencies. The duplicated entries are still in there. I also did not find a good explanation for what this error means. Additional warnings are of this nature: Warning 36 The version of the .NET Framework launch condition '.NET Framework 4' does not match the selected .NET Framework bootstrapper package. Update the .NET Framework launch condition to match the version of the .NET Framework selected in the Prerequisites Dialog Box. So, where is this prerequisites box? I want to make both things agree on .Net 4.0, just having a hard time locating both of them.

• How to schedule hundreds of thousands of tasks?

  We have hundreds of thousands of tasks that need to be run at a variety of arbitrary intervals, some every hour, some every day, and so on. The tasks are resource intensive and need to be distributed across many machines. Right now tasks are stored in a database with an "execute at this time" timestamp. To find tasks that need to be executed, we query the database for jobs that are due to be executed, then update the timestamps when the task is complete. Naturally this leads to a substantial write load on the database. As far as I can tell, we are looking for something to release tasks into a queue at a set interval. (Workers could then request tasks from that queue.) What is the best way to schedule recurring tasks at scale? For what it's worth we're largely using Python, although we have no problems using components (RabbitMQ?) written in other languages.

• Running a groovy script created in STS(Spring Tool Suite) using the command line

  I have used the STS(Spring Tool Suite) to create a compiled groovy script which exists as a file on windows called Test.class. I am able to right click on the file in STS and execute it which works well. However - I want to be able to execute the script on the windows command line, so far I have tried various ways but have not been successful. I have tried the following... java -cp C:\Users\MyName\springsource\sts- 3.1.0.RELEASE\plugins\org.codehaus.grails.bundle_2.1.1\content\lib\ org.codehaus.groovy\groovy-all\jars\groovy-all-1.8.8.jar Test.class But that does not work it gives me an error -- Error: Could not find or load main class Test.class Any Pointers?

  I have a picker that prompts the user to choose a gender and an age group (17-21, 22-26, etc.) These 2 choices determine which view the user will be brought to after pressing the button, but I am having troubles writing the method for that button. • Vim's autocomplete is excruciatingly slow

  Most of the time the autocomplete feature in VIM works nicely for me, but sometimes it seems to be scanning files which the current file references, and then it becomes painfully slow, sometimes taking several seconds to release focus back to me. Sometimes VIM tells me simply that it is "Scanning" other times, it's saying "Scanning tags" I've only this happen in Ruby files, and it happens mostly when there is a require in the file. My guess would be that this is some kind of feature which checks related files for autocomplete options, but I don't really need that, and would prefer quicker autocomplete.

• Ojective C Class or struct?

  I have a class Song with properties Title, Key, Artist, etc. There are no methods. I loop through a database of song information and create a Song object for each, populating the properties, and then store the Song objects in an NSArray. Then I thought, why not just have a struct Song with all those same properties instead of a class Song. Doing so would eliminate the class files, the #import Song line in the using class's .m file, and the need to alloc, init, release. On the other hand, I'd have to put the struct definition in every class that might need it. (Unless there's some globally accessible location -- is there?) Also, can a struct be stored in an NSArray?

• Having a problem with simple bool

  Hi guys, I've some really simple code that checks if my bool is == YES but it does not ever enter. NSLog(@"boool %d",self.arrayAlreadyPopulated ); if (self.arrayAlreadyPopulated == YES) { Match *aMatch = [appDelegate.matchScoresArray objectAtIndex:(numMatchCounter)]; aMatch.teamName1 = TeamNameHolder; } else { Match *aMatch = [[Match alloc] init]; aMatch.teamName1 = TeamNameHolder; [appDelegate.matchScoresArray addObject:aMatch]; [aMatch release]; } The debug at the top says that the value of self.arrayAlreadyPopulated is 1 on the 2nd pass as it should be. But it never enters the first first part but jumps down to the 'else' I cant see for the life of me what the problem is. -.- Anybody able to clue me in?
