• For a primary key of an integral type, why is it important to avoid gaps ?

  I am generating a surrogate key for a table & due to my hi/lo algorithm, everytime you reboot/restart the machine, gaps may appear. T1: current hi = 10000000 (sequence being dished out .. 1 to 100) Assume that current sequence is 10000050 T2: restart system. T3: System gives out the next_hi as 10000100 (sequence being dished out now ranges from 101 to 200) T4: Next request for a key returns 100001001 From a primary key or indexing internals perspective, why is it important that there be no gaps in the sequences ? I'm asking this for a deeper understanding of mysql specifically. Thanks

  Hello, actually i use this method to show similar words for a search request.. $query = "SELECT * FROM searches WHERE Query LIKE '%$search%' ORDER BY Query"; if someone searches for "nelly" it looks up in the database for similar words "nelly furtado, nelly ft. kelly"... but i dont want to show up the searched word.. example: you've searched for nelly - try this too: nelly, nelly furtado, nelly ft., the bold word should not showed up again, because it's the searched word.. is there maybe a method with MATCH AGAINST? thank you!

• What's a good Minimal Server-Side Javascript Framework?

  So I was writing a web app with web.py that uses plenty of client-side javascript, and my database is on couchdb so the queries are in javascript too, and eventually I just got to thinking, why not skip the python and go all javascript? Besides, some functions need to run once on the client and again on the server to make sure you're not spoofing, so why translate between javascript and python? So I'm looking for a simple lightweight javascript web framework. All I really need is the url routing, request and response stuff (standard wsgi?), and a way to hook into a big http server like nginx. What do you guys recommend?

• How to check misspelled email during user registration

  I use an email registration and confirmation in my project (yes, I know about OpenID. In my counry, a main email service lack it). Sometimes users misspell their email addresses. I know about this due to "message could not be delivered" letters in a mailbox. A misspelled address is absolutely correct, because I check it with a regular expression - say, [email protected] intstead of [email protected]. And I do not want to duplicate a email field in a registration form (who likes it?). Request processing routine cannot wait for email delivery - it could take an unpredictable time. So, my script will return to user a confirmation message "An email was sent". And the user will wait for it forever (of cause, not - he/she will turn to an alternative project with a more perfect registration system). Does someone knows how it can be improved (in any programming language)?

• Are there any FreeRTOS interpreted language libraries available?

  I work for a company that created firmware for several device using FreeRTOS. Lately our request for new features has surpassed how much work our firmware engineers are capable of, but we can't afford to hire anyone new right now either. Making even tiny changes requires firmware people to go in and modify things at a very low level. I've been looking for some sort of interpreted language project for FreeRTOS that would let us implement new features at a higher level. Ideally I would like to get things eventually so the devices become closer to generic computers with us writing drivers, rather than us having to implement every feature ourselves. Are there any FreeRTOS projects that interpret java, python or similar bytecode? I've looked on google, but since I'm not a firmware engineer myself I'm not sure if I'm looking for the right keywords. Thanks everyone

DataAnnotations in sample code does not work when the database fields are set to not allow nulls. ERROR occurs with the code from the book and with the sample code downloaded from codeplex. Help! I'm really frustrated by this!! I can't believe something so simple just doesn't work???   Is there a tutorial that goes along with the PetClinic application? I have been trying to find one, but google is not helping me today. Specifically, I dont understand things like: @Autowired - what does that even mean? @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.GET) public String setupForm(@RequestParam("petId") int petId, ModelMap model) { Pet pet = this.clinic.loadPet(petId); model.addAttribute("pet", pet); return "petForm"; } How can a request return just a string? Shouldnt it need to return some sort of ModelAndView? Or does the application somehow redirect to whatever is returned? • Qt QNetworkAccessManager does not emit signals

  The function CheckSite() is called with an url like http://site.com, it initializes a QNetworkAccessManager object and connect() slots and signals. The manger-get() call seems work (it generates http traffic) but does not call the slot replyFinished() at the request end.   I want to use a custom authentication module conforming to JSR 196 in GlassFish 3. The interface javax.security.auth.message.ServerAuth has the method: AuthStatus validateRequest( MessageInfo messageInfo, javax.security.auth.Subject clientSubject, javax.security.auth.Subject serviceSubject ) AuthStatus can be one of several constants like FAILURE or SUCCESS. The question is: How can I get the roles from a "role datebase" with JSR 196? Example: The server receives a request with a SSO token (CAS token for example), checks whether the token is valid, populates the remote user object with roles fetches from a database via JDBC or from REST service via http. Is the role fetching in the scope of JSR 196? How could that be implemented? Do I have to use JSR 196 together with JSR 115 to use custom authentication and a custom role source?

  I'm attempting to get Rails to play nice with the Digg API's OAuth. I'm using the oauth gem (ruby one, not the rails one). However, Digg spits a "400 Bad Request" error back at me when @consumer.get_request_token is called. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

  I have a UIViewController(AbcViewController) with NavigationController.AbcViewController uses UIView(AbcView) as its view. AbcView has a UITableView. I have set This TableView's datasource in AbcViewController and delegate in its SuperView i.e. AbcView. How will I push another UIViewController(XyzViewcontroller) into navigationController when I select a row in this table because it gives "error: request for member 'navigationController' in something not a structure or union" when I do this : [self.navigationController pushViewController:xyzViewcontroller animated:TRUE]; I also did this : AbcViewController *parentVC; [parentVC.navigationController pushViewController:xyzViewcontroller animated:TRUE]; Though it builds successfully but XyzViewcontroller's view does not appear. • Getting a 404 when setting up MVC in IIS 6 and using .NET 4 beta 2

  Hi all, I've completed this set up on a fair few IIS 6 boxes, but one is giving me a tough time. The problem occurs when I add the application extension mapping to: c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.21006\aspnet_isapi.dll When this is in place, I get a 404 error on every request. Even if I remove all files from the application directory apart from a basic test.htm and navigate to that, I still get a 404. I've unchecked the "Verify that file exists" I've set up a .NET 4 application pool and pointed my application to that I've changed the ASP.NET version to 4.0.21006 I've checked the IIS log file, and there's nothing useful in there (it only shows the first bunch of requests after each reboot and then stops logging) I've checked the application event log and nothing gets reported I've installed MVC 2 I've copied the set up onto another box, just to be sure, following all the same steps - and it all works! What else can I look out for?? N.B: If I set .NET to v2 in IIS, then I can successfully navigate to \test.htm

• spring.net application scope repository object on loadbalanced application

  Hi, We have an application running on a loadbalanced environment, let say webserver A and B. The loadbalancing is on the HTTP level, so the loadbalancer directs each user request to one of both webservers. The scope of the repositories in the application is managed by the spring.net container, and the application relies on data that can be cached by the repository (performance reasons). In this case we can never be sure that the cached data in the repositories on both webservers is the same. Is there mechanism in spring.net that can manage this kind problem? Or is there another common approach for this kind of thing? Any ideas? Thx, Bert

If I do this. trip = Trip.create( { name: 'Flight', flights: { flights: flights.to_json } } ) It works. I don't want this though because now I have to access the json array with trip.flights.flights. Not the behavior I'm wanting.

• Sitemaps on multiple front end servers using a http handler, is that a good idea?

  Question 1 We would like to generate a site map for our CMS site We have multiple front end servers with approx a million articles. Environment multiple MS SQL servers multiple front end servers (load balanced) ASP.net - and IIS 6 Windows 2003 To have the site maps (the site map index file, and the site map files) physically on the front end servers will be a operations nightmare and error prone. So we are considering using http handlers instead so that it does not matter what server gets the request, it will be able to serve the correct xml file. Question 2 If we ping Google each time we publish a new article will that effect us negatively if that happens more than once a hour. Thanks!

  I'm getting pretty frustrated figuring out how to add a lowercase header field to an NSMutableURLRequest. NSMutableURLRequest *urlRequest = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:MyURLString]]; [urlRequest setValue:@"aValue" forHTTPHeaderField:@"field"]; In the example above, "field" get's switched to "Field," since the header field names are case insensitive. I wouldn't think this should happen, but it does. The API I am working with is case sensitive, so my GET request is ignored. Is there any way to override the case switch? Thanks

I tried public static class TraceListenerExtensions { public static void TraceVerbose(this Trace trace) {} } but nothing is being exposed on the trace instance being passed in :(

• Trying to add trailing slash with htaccess, results in a absolute path

  What I'm trying to achive is to have all urls on my page look like http://domain.com/page/, no extensions, but a trailing slash. If a user happends to write http://domain.com/page or http://domain.com/page.php it will redirect to the first url. After some googling i found this code, and it's close to working, but when you leave out the trailing slash in your request the url becomes something like http://domain.com/Users/"..."/page/ and therefor returns a 404. My .htaccess looks like this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ /[^?\s]+\.php RewriteRule (.*)\.php$ /$1/ [L,R=301] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule (.*)/$ $1.php [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !(.*)/$ RewriteRule (.*)/$ $1.php [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f RewriteRule .*[^/]$ $0/ [L,R=301] I've been trying to add an additional rule but I really don't get any of this and I haven't been able to find any answers.

• Silverlight WCF service acting strange

  Hi I have a silverlight project that calls into a wcf service. Everything works fine on my local machine. However when I deploy to a virtual machine, with the exact same query the wcf service returns, but the result is empty. I've tried debugging, but have not been able to get it to break in the wcf service. Any ideas what the problem could be, or how I could go about debugging it? Thanks I figured out what the problem is, but am not sure what the solution is. In my silverlight project the wcf service I am referencing is http://localhost/.../SilverlightApiService.svc I used fiddler on my vm to see the request that was made and instead of trying to contact the above service, it was trying to contact: http:///.../SilverlightApiService.svc So, for some reason my machine name is getting inserted in there instead of localhost. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

• Why don't the .net 4.0 charting controls work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express?

  The .net charting controls are now built into .net 4.0. They work great in Visual Studio 2010. However, they do not work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (which is what I have at home.) I get the error, System.Web.HttpException: Error executing child request for ChartImg.axd. That sounds like the message from .net 3.5 if charting wasn't set up correctly. But the bottom of the same page says, "Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1" Does anyone know why this doesn't work?

• How to preselect nodes using jsTree jQuery plug-in

  I am using the jsTree jQuery plug-in with its "Checkbox" plug-in and using an async http request to lazy-load each level of the tree. All works great, except that I cannot get the tree to pre-select certain nodes after the first level. I am using the "selected" attribute to provide an array of ID's to preselect. ID's in the top level of the tree are correctly pre-selected. However, ID's in lower levels of the tree are not selected when the level loads. Am I missing something?   I have a similar question than django cross-site reverse. But i think I can't apply the same solution. I'm creating an app that lets the users create their own site. After completing the signup form the user should be redirected to his site's new post form. Something along this lines: new_post_url = 'http://%s.domain:9292/manage/new_post %site.domain' logged_user = authenticate(username=user.username, password=user.password) if logged_user is not None: login(request, logged_user) return redirect(new_product_url) Now, I know that "new_post_url" is awful and makes babies cry so I need to reverse it in some way. I thought in using django.core.urlresolvers.reverse to solve this but that only returns urls on my domain, and not in the user's newly created site, so it doesn't works for me. So, do you know a better/smarter way to solve this?

• Saving State Dynamic UserControls...Help!

  I have page with a LinkButton on it that when clicked, I'd like to add a Usercontrol to the page. I need to be able to add/remove as many controls as the user would like. The Usercontrol consists of three dropdownlists. The first dropdownlist has it's auotpostback property set to true and hooks up the OnSelectedIndexChanged event that when fired will load the remaining two dropdownlists with the appropriate values. My problem is that no matter where I put the code in the host page, the usercontrol is not being loaded properly. I know I have to recreate the usercontrols on every postback and I've created a method that is being executed in the hosting pages OnPreInit method. I'm still getting the following error: The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases.
