• OWC does not work with IE8

  Hi, I have a web page that is generated with Access 2003 and uses Office Web Components. It worked fine with IE6 and IE7 but does not work anymore with IE8. Here are more details. I create an MSODSC component and a WSH object to get my ConnectionString in the registry. Then the Dropdown Lists are fed by a request to the database. It works perfect with IE6 and IE7, works locally with IE8 but if the page is served by IIS to IE8, the drop down lists are empty. Can anyone help me ? Thanks Mactov

• Check ReturnUrl is valid before redirecting

  I'm using ASP.NET Membership and Form Authentication and before redirecting to the returnURL I wanted to validate it. For those unfamiliar with the workflow, basically if you request a page that requires that you are authenticated, you are redirected to a login page. In the URL string you'll see a parameter called returnURL, e.g. http://example.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fprotected%2fdefault.aspx Whether you use this in a redirect such as Response.Redirect(returnURL) or indirectly through the FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage method, it passes without validating returnURL. FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage does have a security check that it is isn't leaving the domain, but that still doesn't stop someone from putting enough random characters to cause an error. I tried using System.IO.File.Exists(Server.MapPath(returnURL)) but given enough illegal characters it cause Server.MapPath to error. Note: URLEncoding doesn't work because we are not cleaning a parameter, but the primary URL. Any other suggestions for validating or cleaning the returnURL value?

• issues with horizontal scrolling using jQuery.ScrollTo / jQuery.SerialScroll

  Hi, I am trying to develop auto horizontal scrolling for our website using - jQuery.ScrollTo / jQuery.SerialScroll. I am not sure if this is the best jquery library to do that, but if there's something better, please let me know. Here's the behavior that I want, check out foursquare's "Recent Activity" list. The data that will refresh will come from a ajax request that I make every few seconds using window.setInterval. I am not really a CSS/java script guy so I havent been able to figure out jQuery.SerialScroll. Here's the website - look at the "Live job Feeds" list. Currently the list does refresh the data coming from the ajax call, but I dont see the effect, the animation, in fact I dont even think serialScroll is being used. Right now I am doing a - $('#feed-ticker').prepend(content) to pre-append the newly arrived data. You can do a view source to look at the current code. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

  Hello everyone I just read the new User fql table fields at http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fql/user As I can see a lot of the fields have been deprecated such as work_history or books and movies. It is quite essential for my app to get all those fields for my user's friends in a single fql query. If i am not wrong the only way to do this is to get those extra fields using the Graph API by requesting them seperately for every friend of my user. Is there any way to do it in a more efficient way without so many calls? Can I subscribe to real time updates for the request fields for my user's friends (i do not care about the logged in user data)? Thank you a lot

• UIWebView NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData doesn't actually ignore the cache

  I have a UIWebView object, with the caching-policy specified as: NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData This should ignore whatever objects are in the local cache and retrieve the latest version of a site from the web. However, after the first load of the site (10 resources in trace, HTTP GET), all subsequent loads of the site only retrieve a small subset of resources (3 resources in trace, HTTP GET). The images all appear to be loaded from some local source. I have confirmed that my sharedURLCache has a memory usage of 0 bytes, and a disk usage of 0 bytes. Whenever the process starts fresh, the full version of the site is retrieved again. This leads me to believe that these resources are being stored in an in-memory cache, but as I noted before, [[NSURLCache sharedURLCache] currentMemoryUsage] returns 0. I have also tried explicitly removing the cached response for my request, but this seems to have no effect. What gives?

• Get Instance from StructureMap by Type Name

  Is there any way to request an instance from the StructureMap ObjectFactory by the string name of the type? For example, it would be nice to do something like this: var thing = ObjectFactory.GetInstance("Thing"); The use case here is a messaging scenario in which the message is very generic and contains only the name of a task. The handler receives the message, gets the task name from the message and retrieves the Type of task runner from a configuration database. StructureMap scans all the assemblies in a directory and one of them will contain the Type returned from the config database which then needs to be instantiated. The other possibility is to grab a Type instance by doing the following: var type = Type.GetType("Thing"); But the problem there is the assembly may or may/not be loaded in the AppDomain so that reflection call isn't always possible.

  HI guys, I need to be able to make an ajax call to be made after every few minutes. Basically the ajax call would be to check on new emails in an inbox. If there are new emails it would download the emails to a database. I got all the server side code set up fine. I just need to know how do I set up on the front end the part where the ajax call is made after every few minutes plus it should be set up such that we don't end up with parallel ajax calls being made i.e if the ajax call hasn't returned a response it shouldn't start a new ajax request.

  I am building a web application crawler that's meant not only to find all the links or pages in a web application, but also perform all the allowed actions in the app (such as pushing buttons, filling forms, notice changes in the DOM even if they did not trigger a request etc.) Basically, this is a kind of "browser simulator". I find WebKit a good option to implement my crawler, since it has all the needed technology (Javascript engine, parsers, DOM manipulation, etc.) but it seems kind of an overkill being a fully featured browser. Is there any toolkit you know that can provide the above functionality?

  I'm having a trouble allowing asterisk (*) in the URL of my website. I am running ASP.NET MVC 2 and .NET 4.0. Here's an example that describes the problem: http://mysite.com/profile/view/Nice* The username is Nice* and ASP.NET says there are illegal characters in the URL: Illegal characters in path. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path. I have tried all the Web.config methods I've seen online such as: <pages validateRequest="false"> and <httpRuntime requestPathInvalidCharacters="" requestValidationMode="2.0" /> So my question is: Is it possible to allow asterisk in URL?   I have a scenario where I have single entry point Servlet and further Servlets that requests are forwarded to that undertake heavy processing. I am looking at options to distribute this load and I would like to know if it is possible using Tomcat or another platform to forward requests between Servlets sitting on different servers using a cluster type configuration or similar.   I am employing ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem to play some sound files and not hanging up the GUI while doing so. It is working but has an undesirable side effect. While the QueueUserWorkItem CallBack Proc is being executed there is nothing to stop it from starting a new thread. This causes the samples in the threads to overlap. How can I make it so that it waits for the already running thread to finish running and only then run the next request? EDIT: I did: Thread t = new Thread(FireAttackProc(fireResult)); t.Start(); but it gave me some errors. How do I specify a thread method with parameters?

I found two approaches which seemed promising at first but don't look like they will work. OpenXML SDK The OpenXML SDK isn't available for Silverlight at this time. Word Automation via COM Interop dynamic wordApplication = AutomationFactory.CreateObject("Word.Application"); Apparently this requires that the Silverlight 4 application be granted permission to run with elevated privileges, which is only available for out-of-browser applications (which ours isn't) My other thought is to hand off the request to a back-end service which doesn't have these limitations. Wanted to check for any ideas before going down that path. Thank you!

But: A) if this module is invoked for non-asp.net application, then how or why would HttpApplication object still be created, since non-asp.net apps don’t run in the context of CLR ( and thus Asp.Net runtime also won’t run )? b) Assuming HttpApplication object is also created for non-asp.net apps, why then does the code inside Init() event handler have to check for whether HttpApplication object actually exists? Why wouldn’t it exist? Isn’t this HttpApplication object which actually instantiates Http module instance? • Why does Sitecore throw a NullReferenceException exception when I redirect to one of its pages?

  I'm running Sitecore 6.1 on Windows 2008, IIS7, and I'm trying to use the URL Rewrite Module to do a redirect. When I enable the rule and hit the URL that triggers it, I get a YSOD. The same rule works perfectly on a non-sitecore site on the same machine. According to the Failed Request Trace, the rewrite module does its thing just fine, but then Sitecore throws an exception, even if the redirect points to another server. This is probably a result of something I have misconfigured, but I just can't understand why it doesn't work. The details from the YSOD are below. The problem is that {% paginate %} does not work, but other {% load pagination_tags %} and {% autopaginate object_list 10 %} works! Error message appeared, when I add {% paginate %} into html page: TemplateSyntaxError at /logging Caught an exception while rendering: pagination/pagination.html What I have done: Install django-pagination without any problems. When I do in python import pagination, it's work well.
