• Using Sessions in WCF Services called from Silverlight

  (Using Visual Studio 2008, and Silverlight 3) -I've really looked around for this one, and now I'm just confused by all the solutions that simply won't work for me. I'm trying to call a WCF service from a Silverlight client, which is no problem, but I can't get the service to handle sessions (I want to remember a few things about the callee between calls) I've gathered that basicHttpBinding is no good for sessions, and I haven't managed to make wsHttpBinding work... what's the matter? I would have thought this was a pretty basic thing people would want in their WCF services, or am I just completely muddle-headed not to see how it can be done?

• Create SOAP message from WSDL using axiom

  Hi, I'm a starting a project which consist in sending a request to a web-service (which is already available) and parsing the response. I have the WSDL and URL endpoints. Does anyone have a startup tutorial on how to build something from there? I would like to use Axis2 + Axiom to send the service request and receive and process the response. I'm using eclipse as dev env. I've been search for a tut on how to do this but with no success. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

• Obtaining the server IP address in WCF?

  How can I obtain the server IP address that was used to connect to a service? The server has multiple IP addresses and I need to know which one the client is connected to. So far I only found that OperationContext.Current.EndpointDispatcher.EndpointAddress and OperationContext.Current.Channel.LocalAddress contain the address from .config (e.g. localhost) OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageProperties.Via contains the Url that the client used to connect to the server (but this might just be a name from the clients hosts file). EDIT - Sorry, I wasn't being clear enough: The server needs to know which of its IP addresses were used by the client. E.g. the server has the addresses 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2. when processing the request the server service needs to know if 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.2 was used by the client to connect to it.

  Users of my service includes a JS in their pages that I provide. I am hosting the script they are including. My script does some manipulation on their content. I am sick of writing my own DOM manipulators/selectors and wasting hours for jobs that can be done with 1 line of code if I can use jQuery. Some of the users of my service already uses jQuery (or Prototype etc.) on their pages, so if I include jQuery there will be a conflict. Because there will be version differences, I don't want to use their jQuery selectors, methods either in case jQuery exists. Keeping in mind that I have no control over their pages, how can I include jQuery and avoid conflict?

• Setup and Deployment does not work

  Hi, I am working on VS 2008 and 3.5 framework. I had three windows services. I placed all three in a single solution, created installer individually for each of them. Then created a setup project. When I build it says build failed . But I checked on the errorlist, (i enabled the diagnostics in options menu), but there was no error at all. I went ahead and installed. There were no issues, But there was no service showed up in the services.msc. I installed each service individually , using installutil command, it showed up. But my requirement is to bundle these services and deploy to the client. The client should install it. Where am I going wrong. Any inputs will be highly appreciated. Regards cmrhema

• Question about the lifecycle of a simple Android application

  Hi, I've got a simple application with 3 activities: -the first contains a search box which calls a web service and show the results (restaurants) below in a listview -when a restaurant is clicked another activity is started showing the description of the restaurant and a button "show map" -when the button "show map" is clicked, guess what, the map is shown in a third activity. All the data is loaded in the first activity by a web service (restaurant descriptions and coordinates), and data required by each activity is passed in a bundle using "intent.putExtra". Now everything seems to run smoothly when clicking on the back button (eg. clicking on the back button from the map resumes the "restaurant description" activity with all data set properly), while I haven't done anything about the lifecycle yet. Why? Are all variables saved automatically? Should I use onSaveInstanceState() and onRestoreInstanceState() anyway? Thanks Jul

What am i doing wrong? (i don't have control over the service so all solutions must relate to the client configuration)

• Android: making a custom ListView independent of adapters ?

  I am adding a local database as a cache to a remote web service in my android application to answer queries. I used ArrayAdapters before for list views to display the results from the web service. Now with a database cache, the result could be either a Cursor(from database) or a List(from web), which means the adapter can be CursorAdapter or ArrayAdapter too. Creating two adapters for one query doesn't seem to be a good idea. So I am wondering what would be the best way to refactor my current code to add this database feature? Thanks,

From server - only certain columns from certain tables need to be synced. From client - everything will need to be synced once client has made changes. • Max number of web methods?

  Guys I have a web service in asp.net 2.0 that has 234 methods. It seems that when I add another method the site does not compile in VS2005 until I remove one first. I get a message saying that the new method I just added does not exist in a file that belongs in the Microsoft.Net/.../Temporary Files directory. I have restarted IIS, closed down VS2005, removed all files from this temp directory but to no avail. The only way to get the code to compile is to remove another one so as to keep 234 methods.... I can consistency replicate this behaviour so it cannot be my code. Now I know this seems strange but it is true! One other strange thing is that exactly 100 of the method names begin with the word GetXXXyyyZZZ Has anyone else experienced problems with the maximum number of methods that are allowed in a web service?   I had a row in my database: starttime:4/6/2012 2:00pm, Endtime:31/12/9999, name:"swetha", status:"open"..... When I update this row I changed the starttime to the current time (getdate()) and have no issues. I am running a Windows Service each day at 1am to modify a value in the row. I would like to know the status of my row at 4/6/2012 11:59 pm when my service runs. There is no need to do an update at 4/6/2012 11:59 pm and the last update may be at any time of the day however my requirement is to get the status value at 4/6/2012 11:59 pm. I would like to have the query in SQL Server 2008. Can anyone please help me to find a solution?

I would like to mock the client, but the generated client interface doesn't contain the close method, which is required to properly terminate the proxy. If I don't use the interface, but instead a concrete reference, I get access to the close method but loose the ability to mock the proxy. • How to send reminder notifications to subscribers for renewal from SQL Server 2005?

  I have a table in SQL DB, namely dbo.subscribers, it contains following columns: -SubscriberID -JoinDateTime The business logic says a subscription last for 2 weeks and a reminder should be sent after 7 days from the JoinDateTime. The way that the system was designed to send reminders are via a URL call, e.g. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/renew_userid=SubscriberID/ and that can only be called from our webserver which is the only whitelisted IP machines given. Currently there is a windows service written to query the DB once a day at midnight to grab all expiring subscribers and send them reminders, however this batch approach only sends reminders to the nearest date, well, I could have set the interval down from 1 day to 1 hour such that the service can send notifications out closer to the exact JoinDateTime + 7 days requirements. I have heard a stored procedure can be written and perform task like this to a nearly real-time manner, if yes, please give me some hints on how to do it. Another question is - is SSRS bit of an overkill to perform things like this? Please advice. TIA

The idea is that we want to see how much time of a web service call is lost due to the actual transfer trough the network. Does WCF already offer something in this direction?   I would like to access a web service provided by one of the machines on my LAN from the android emulator. If the service was running on the same machine where the emulator is running (called host), I could add a network redirection and access the 10.0.2.2 (host loopback interface in the emulator) with the correct port. However it is running on another machine on the LAN. I guess I could add another redirection on the host additionally to the above one (would have to fight with iptables though ... ), but does a more simple solution exist ?

  I want to build a way to automatically redirect users to Timeout.aspx when their session expires due to inactivity. My application uses forms authentication and relies heavily on update panels within the same aspx page for user interaction, so I don't want to simply redirect after a page-level timer expires. For the same reason, I can't use '<meta http-equiv="refresh"/>' What I want to do is create a simple ajax web service with a method called IsSessionTimedOut(), that simply returns a boolean. I will use a javascript timer to periodically call the method, and if it returns true, then redirect to Timeout.aspx. However, I don't want calling this method to reset the session timeout timer, or the session would never time out because of the service call. Is there a clean way to avoid this catch-22? Hopefully there is an easy solution that has so far eluded me.

  Hi all I have an ASP.NET web application that runs on a windows server 2003 server. there is a form that reads and writes data to an xml file inside the application's directory. I always grant the NETWORK SERVICE user full control on my application folder so that it can read and write to the xml file. I put the application on another windows server 2003 server and did the same steps above but i was getting an Access denied exception on the form that reads and writes to the xml. I did some search and found that if you grant the user ASPNET full control to the directory it would work, I did that and it worked fine. my question is: what is the difference between granting full control permissions to NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET users ? and what can be the difference between the two servers that caused this issue ? thanks

Is EF 1.0 business entities can be used in n-tier apps without sacrificing the tracking changes in the entities? Is there a sample reference application available to look? Thanks.

• How to retrieve Google Blogger feed in ASP.NET medium trust?

  I have an ASP.NET web site hosted at HostMySite.com and they recently changed the shared accounts to run in medium trust. In my web site I query my Blogger account and get blog posts to display on my web site. I am using Google.GData.Client v1.4.0.2 The retrieval works locally (and worked until medium trust was invoked at the ISP).
