• Cast to generic type in C#

  I have a Dictionary to map a certain type to a certain generic object for that type. For example: typeof(LoginMessage) maps to MessageProcessor<LoginMessage> Now the problem is to retrieve this generic object at runtime from the Dictionary. Or to be more specific: To cast the retrieved object to the specific generic type. I need it to work something like this: Type key = message.GetType(); MessageProcessor<key> processor = messageProcessors[key] as MessageProcessor<key>; Hope there is a easy solution to this. Edit: I do not want to use Ifs and switches. Due to performance issues I cannot use reflection of some sort either.

  have an action that generates active vacancies.   I'm terribly new to web development. I'm trying to make a pretty simple site with a friend. My friend has taken the time to design the layout for our site, and we have things looking how we want in a static HTML page. What I'd like to do now is move over to a Content Management System like Drupal but keep the same design that we have all ready laid out. Since I'm completely new to this field, I'm looking for some best-practices advice as to how to make this leap. It's apparent to me that I could probably edit some existing Drupal Theme to make it give me the layout that I want, but is that the path I should go down? Thanks! Update: Also, is it more than just replacing my style.css with their style.css?

  Basically i want to create XMLDesigner kind of thing in Flex, using which user can add/edit components and properties of view/dashboard. i am storing view structure in a xml file. i parsed that file at runtime and display view. • Can I modify package.xml file in SQL bootstrapper to install a named SQL server instance

  I want to use the SqlExpress2008 Bootstrapper for a new installation on Windows7, I do not want to use the default SQLEXPRESS Instance. • Unable to compare valuesfrom mysql in a prepared statement

  I can't seem to get this to connect to the database so that I can run my prepared statement.   I am having the hardest time wrapping my head around this. I recently asked this question Create/Edit/Save data in a jQuery pop-up for ASP.NET-MVC and Linq2Sql I'm sure that the response is the right way to go, but I just can't figure out how to write the back-end code to make it work. I originally made my site by following the nerddinner tutorial. I have a subcontracts model and a subcontracts controller. On my subcontract entry page, I'd like for there to be a pop-up/dialog box where the user can enter a new company if the company isn't already in the drop-down list. Do I need to create a new company controller? I wouldn't have a company model b/c the company table is linked to my subcontracts table within the subcontracts dbml. Can anyone point me to an example somewhere? Or offer any help.

• Do passwords used for .htaccess need to be encrypted?

  I am using .htaccess files to control access to various Apache2 directories. I have a main "password" file that contains usernames and passwords. All the instructions I have found regarding .htaccess talk about how the passwords added are encrypted. The usernames and passwords are created using the following command line syntax ... htpasswd -nb username password What I am wondering is ... do the passwords always need to be encrypted? Could I store usernames and passwords in a plain-text form someonewhere on the system (above the web root)? This would allow me to easily edit user names and passwords via FTP without requiring access to the Shelll (which I do not always have). Thank you.

• Preserving text formatting for dynamic website

  Hello Folks, I am facing a problem while creating a dynamic website. I am building it for some pharma company, which have many products. The problem is, every product have different sections of description, and have to be formatted differently. I wanted to store all the product descriptions in the database, but at the same time preserve the formatting of each description. I also plan to provide an admin interface, where they could edit the product information themselves. I could use Joomla or any other CMS for that purpose, but i wanted to know if i want to build such a system of my own, where i could format the text in an editor and them save that thing into database and when i retrieve it, i get the same formatting. • bundle .NET dlls to run application in .NET-less machine?

  AFAIK, ngen turns MSIL into native code (also reffered to as pre-JIT), however I never payed too much attention at it's startup performance impact. Ngen'd applications still require the .NET base class libraries (the runtime). Since the base class libraries have everything our .NET assemblies need (correct?) would it be possible to ship the framework's DLLs with my ngen'd application so that it does not require the runtime to be installed? (e.g., the scenario for most Windows XP machines) Oh, and please don't bother mentioning Remotesoft's Salamander Linker or Xenocode's Postbuild. They are not for my (and many's) current budget (and they seem to simply bundle the framework in a virtualized enviroinment, which means big download sizes and slow startup times I believe) EDIT: I know now, ngen doesn't do what I thought it did. But is it possible to bundle the .NET files with an application, without using a VM?

• ASP.NET MVC - Custom validation message for value types

  When I use UpdateModel or TryUpdateModel, the MVC framework is smart enough to know if you are trying to pass in a null into a value type (e.g. the user forgets to fill out the required Birth Day field) . Unfortunately, I don't know how to override the default message, "A value is required." in the summary into something more meaningful ("Please enter in your Birth Day"). There has to be a way of doing this (without writing too much work-around code), but I can't find it. Any help? EDIT Also, I guess this would also be an issue for invalid conversions, e.g. BirthDay = "Hello".

• Eclipse + Git: Can't add files to my repository

  I use Eclipse (Helios) with PDT and egit. I have a project without versioning, so I created a git repository for it by doing: Team -> Share Project When I try to add the files of my project to the repository: Team -> Add I get an exception: Failed to add resource to index Failed to add resource to index Exception caught during execution of add command When I add the files manually on the command line, everything is working fine. Any ideas? EDIT: The error eclipse gives is: Caused by: org.eclipse.jgit.errors.ObjectWritingException: Unable to create new object: Z:\eage_layout\.git\objects\60\f30dd232bd6ddaeb198fb11400c2613a072189 at org.eclipse.jgit.storage.file.ObjectDirectoryInserter.insert(ObjectDirectoryInserter.java:100) at org.eclipse.jgit.api.AddCommand.call(AddCommand.java:177) The code I'm running is located on a virtual machine running on CentOs. I'm working on a windows machine and using a samba share to get access to the code on the virtual machine. I've put the filesystem permissions on my .git directory to 777, but still it does not work.

  I want to do some screen-scraping with Python 2.7, and I have no context for the differences between HTMLParser, SGMLParser, or Beautiful Soup. Are these all trying to solve the same problem, or do they exist for different reasons? Which is simplest, which is most robust, and which (if any) is the default choice? Also, please let me know if I have overlooked a significant option. Edit: I should mention that I'm not particularly experienced in HTML parsing, and I'm particularly interested in which will get me moving the quickest, with the goal of parsing HTML on one particular site.

• Rails 3, changing a specific value in a row

  Hey Guys, This question seems ridiculously easy, but I seem to be stuck. Lets say we have a table "Books" Each Book, has a name, description, and a status. Lets say I want to create link in the show view, that when clicked, solely changes the status (to "read") for example. So far, I've tried adding a block in the controller, that says: def read @book = Book.find(params[:id]) @book.status = "Read" @book.update_attributes(params[:book]) respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to :back} format.xml { render :xml => @book } end end Then I've added a link to the view that is like: <%= link_to "Read", read_book_path(@book), :method = :put % This isn't working at all. • Visual C# GUI Designer basic tutorial

  Hi, can you recommend a Visual C# Form Designer tutorial that is targeted at experienced programmers who have at least a basic knowledge of C# but are new to the VS C# Form Designer. At least it shouldn't be targeted at programming newbs, like Introduction to Visual C# 2008 Express Edition (it explains how a comment looks like in C#). So far I've found C# Programming Tutorial - Programming Winforms in C# on stackoverflow. Wishlist: ;-) I'm more interested in focus on the designer itself rather than an explanation of single gui-elements. In other words explaining separation between generated-code, what to not edit manually (visual-c#-designer-responsibility) and on the other hand the parts for which the programmer himself is responsible. So a little more abstract best-practice point of view pointing out some caveats would be great as well. I would prefer text over video as well, but that's minor. /Wishlist Perhaps even a Microsoft reference specific to the Visual c# forms designer (which I seem to have been unable to find) would be helpful.

  A jQuery AJAX request .post()s data to page.php, which creates $res and var_dump()s it. $res: $res = array(); foreach ($_REQUEST as $key => $value) { if($key){ $res[$key] = $value; } } var_dump($res): array(4) { ["text1"]=> string(6) "mattis" ["text2"]=> string(4) "test" ["tu"]=> string(32) "deb6adbbff4234b5711cc4368c153bc4" ["PHPSESSID"]=> string(32) "cda24363cb9d3226bd37b2577ed0bc0b" } My javascript only sends text1 and text2: $.post("page.php",{ text1:"mattis", text2:"test" } What is the "tu" variable beeing sent? Apparantly it's very similar to the session id, but I've never seen it before. EDIT: It is sent in IE but not in FF.

• Create View using Linked Server db in SQL Server

  How can I create View on Linked Server db. For Example I have a linked server [0.0.0.0] on [1.1.1.1]. Both db servers are SQL Sserver 2005. I want to create View on [1.1.1.1] using table on linked server. EDIT: On creating using full name, [0.0.0.0].db.dbo.table, I am getting this error. SQL Execution Error. Executed SQL statement: SELECT * FROM 0.0.0.0.db.dbo.table (YOu can see brackets are not there.) Error Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider Error Message: Incorrect syntax near '0.0'. --- part of IP address. I am just creating this in ManagementStudio, not using it because it is not created yet. I Have changed IP. In image you can see there are not brackets around IP but I given it and on error these brackets are removed. Thanks.

• Cache Refresh in Chrome

  I dunno what exactly it's called, by cache refresh I mean, refresh the page after clearing its cache. I don't want to clear the entire browser cache. I prefer Chrome's Dev panel against firebug... don't ask me why. But I can't seem to cache refresh my pages. In FF, I know it to be Shift+Refresh. In chrome, I've tried Ctrl+R, Ctrl+Refresh, Alt+Refresh, Shift+Refresh but none of them work. EDIT: I got a Notable Question Badge for the lamest question I've ever asked. FML.

• Showing HTML comment strings (<!-- -->) in HTML files

  Hello all. I'm building a source code search engine, and I'm returning the results on a HTML page (aspx to be exact, but the view logic is in HTML). When someone searches a string, I also return the whole line of code where this string can be found in a file. However, some lines of code come from HTML/aspx files and these lines contain HTML specific comments (). When I try to print this line on the HTML page, it interprets it as a comment and does not show it on the screen....how should I go about solving this so that it actually shows up?
