  I see a lot of stuff online related to fixing buttons that can't be pressed, and fixing network issues with proxies. This seems like a different problem to me, related to jem.util.0.0.0 in the case of maven2 or needed libs for other plugins. The setup: Eclipse 3.5.1 (Galileo) installed with apt-get. Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) (This is running as a VM, not that is should matter.) General problem description: Maven2 eclipse plugin installation fails. Specifically, I can not install maven2 plugin from the eclipse installation flow using this target site: http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e/ The maven site is found, installation begins, and then returns this error: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: Maven Integration for Eclipse (Required) 0.10.0.20100209-0800\ (org.maven.ide.eclipse.feature.feature.group 0.10.0.20100209-0800) Missing requirement: Maven Integration for Eclipse (Required) 0.10.0.20100209-0800 (org\ .maven.ide.eclipse.feature.feature.group 0.10.0.20100209-0800) requires 'org.eclipse.jem.\ util 0.0.0' but it could not be found Official Ubuntu documentation claims eclipse 3.5.1 support, and recommends using the Synaptic Package Manager, and nothing else about any issues. Does anyone has any insight into this?

• How do I store more information in a marker?

  Hello, I'm using Google Maps v3 and I build in the server side a json collection of location data. So when I receive that, I iterate through that collection and create a marker object for each and every one of them. For each of these markers, I bind them with the click event, so when the user clicks on a marker in the map, it displays an infoWindow with data related to the associated location. I have an array to store all the location got from the server that holds the retrieved json objects and their corresponding marker. The problem is that, even when I have an array that I can reference or iterate through, I need to not only get the marker object when the user clicks on them, but also the location object, that stores more information. I tried to mantain this array of objects and reference it from the calling object without success, because the function is called by the marker and not the location object. So I thought if it's possible to store more information in the google maps marker object like using a general purpose field. Please let me know if more information is needed. Thanks!

• Castle Windsor with ASP.NET MVC 2 Areas

  Been lurking for a few months and decided to jump in with a question. I am very new to Windsor and IoC in general. I can get Windsor to work with my MVC2 project with no problem. The project I am working on is a "portal" of multiple applications under one MVC2 project using the new Areas concept. In this scenario, each Area will actually be a separate application inside the "portal". We are doing this to effectively share a LOT of common code, views, authentication, and cross-application functionality. Many of our apps link to one another, so it made sense after discussing it to combine them into one project. What I am wondering how to do is actually allow different Areas to inject different concrete classes? In my limited understanding, the Application_Start is governing building the container and assigning it as the controller factory. I don't necessarily want to do all the injection at the application level. We have a config system where we have a config.xml at the root of every Area and those settings override any root settings. I would like to continue that trend by having the injections for each Area be read by the Area's config.xml (an inheritance similar to Webforms web.config where the config in a lower folder overrides settings in a parent folder). Example: I would have an ILogHandler which would need a different concrete implementation depending on which Area of the application I am in. So I would need to inject something different depending on where I am at in the application. I can easily do this using factories since each area could have it's own set of factories, but I am attempting to take this opportunity to learn about IoC and what the benefits/drawbacks are. Any help would be appreciated.

• HttpServletRequest#login() not working in Java.

  Hello, j_security_check just doesn't seem enough for me to perform login process. So, instead of submitting the form to j_security_check i created my own servlet and in that i am programmatically trying to do login. This works but i am not able to redirect to my restricted resource. Can anybody tell me what can be the problem? • Character set issues with Oracle Gateways, SQL Server, and Application Express

  I am migrating data from a Oracle on VMS that accesses data on SQL Server using heterogeneous services (over ODBC) to Oracle on AIX accessing the SQL Server via Oracle Gateways (dg4msql). The Oracle VMS database used the WE8ISO8859P1 character set. The AIX database uses WE8MSWIN1252. The SQL Server database uses "Latin1-General, case-insensitive, accent-sensitive, kanatype-insensitive, width-insensitive for Unicode Data, SQL Server Sort Order 52 on Code Page 1252 for non-Unicode Data" according to sp_helpsort. The SQL Server databases uses nchar/nvarchar or all string columns. In Application Express, extra characters are appearing in some cases, for example 123 shows up as %001%002%003. In sqlplus, things look ok but if I use Oracle functions like initcap, I see what appear as spaces between each letter of a string when I query the sql server database (using a database link). This did not occur under the old configuration. I'm assuming the issue is that an nchar has extra bytes in it and the character set in Oracle can't convert it. It appears that the ODBC solution didn't support nchars so must have just cast them back to char and they showed up ok. I only need to view the sql server data so I'm open to any solution such as casting, but I haven't found anything that works. Any ideas on how to deal with this? Should I be using a different character set in Oracle and if so, does that apply to all schemas since I only care about one of them.

• sIfr (3.436) and IE8 - My h1 and h2 are flickering

  I am using sIfr (3.436) for my H1 and H2 tags. In IE8 the text flickers and jumps around alot. • Smoothing touch-based animation in iPhone OpenGL?

  I know this is vague, but looking for general tips/help on this, as it's not an area of significant expertise for me. I have some iPhone code that's basically an EAGL view handling a single touch. The app draws (using GL) a circle via triangle fan at the touch point, and moves it when the user moves the touch point, and re-renders the view then. When dragging a finger slowly, the circle keeps up and consistent with the finger as it moves. If I scribble my finger quickly back and forth across the screen, the rendering doesn't keep up with the touch motion, so you see an optical illusion of "multiple" discrete circles on the screen "at once". (Normal persistence of vision illusion). This optical illusion is jarring. How can I make this look more natural? Can I blur the motion of the circle somehow? Is this result the evidence of some bad frame rate issue? I see this artifact even when nothing else is being rendered, so I think this might just be as fast as we can go. Any hints or suggestions? • How do you use asynchronous ORMs without huge callback chains?

  I'm using the relatively immature Joose Javascript ORM plugin (project page) to persist objects in an Appcelerator Titanium (company page) mobile project. Since it's client side storage, the application has to check to see if the database is initialized before starting up the ORM since it inspects the DB tables to construct the classes. My problem is that this sequence of operations (and if this one is like this, other things down the road) takes a lot of callbacks to complete. I have a lot of jumping around in the code that isn't apparent to a maintainer and results in some complex call graphs and whatnot. So, I ask these questions: How would you asynchronously initialize a database and populate it with seed data using an ORM that needs the schema to be correct to function? Do you have any general strategies or links for async/event driven programming and keeping the call graph simple and understandable? Do you have any suggestions for Javascript ORMs/meta object systems that work with HTML 5 as a storage engine and are hopefully framework agnostic? Am I just a big newb and should be able to work this out with ease? Thanks folks!

  I have a question of how to sort an anonymous type. Using Linq2SQL I have the following query, which returns a list of submissions: var submissions = EventSubmissions .Where(s => s.EventId.Equals(eventId)); Consider the following interface (somewhat simplyfied): public interface IQuerySorter { IOrderedQueryable Sort(IQueryable query); IOrderedQueryable<T> Sort<T, U>(IQueryable<T> query, Expression<Func<T,U>> selector); ... } Using this interface allows me to implement a number of 'sorters', e.g. on Date, Rating or whether or not a submission has been nominated (for voting). sortedQuery = sorter.Sort(submissions) So far so good. A submission can be made "votable". I get the number of votes a nominated submission may have using the following query: var withVoteCount = submissions .Select(s => new {NumberOfVotes = s.Votes.Count(), Submission = s}); I would like to sort this new query by NumberOfVotes using my "general" sorter class, but run into the problem that the anonymous type/member does not seem to live outside the repository-method, hence I am unable to sort on it. • Javascript menu that hovers over initial element

  I'm trying to build a javascript menu using prototype that when you mouseover an element, that element is hidden and a bigger element is shown in its place that closes onmouseout. This is what I have so far to give you an idea, but it doesn't work and is buggy. • iPhone User Interface Design

  Hey guys, I've just had a nagging question for a while regarding iPhone app user interfaces. For example, consider WeightBot's User Interface. I am wondering, how are most of these user interfaces created? In general, of course. Is there a way to simply design controls (that is, the images) in a program like Photoshop, then use that 'skin' for controls in UIKit? I realize that there are some controls that are probably created by the programmer (custom controls), but I'm referring to the ready-made ones that come in UIKit. In other words, is the concept similar to 'splicing' web site designs? Where a designer draws out the design of the website in something like Photoshop, and then it is cut up into pieces which can be applied to form the actual website? I know this can be done for UIButtons, can this also be done for other controls, and is this how it is usually done? Or perhaps this is done with Core Animation? I've heard this from time to time, so does this mean that the User Interfaces are 'hard-coded'? Or is Core Animation only use for the 'effects', such as applying the glowing effect to the numbers in WeightBot? If there are any resources you can point me to I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

• Problems compiling peazip on OSX

  I'm having some problems with compiling Peazip on OSX (10.6). I emailed the Peazip developer and he said he probably couldn't help me too much as the error seems to be OSX specific and he doesn't have access to an OSX machine any more. The compiler I'm using is Lazarus as the source is in Pascal. • How to weed out the bad programmers from the competent ones in the interview process

  I am getting ready to add another developer to my team and I want to try and fix the mistakes I made in my last hiring cycle. I like to think of myself as a competent programmer (I can be given a project, I can deliver on that project and the deliverable work with very few if any bugs) and so I ask questions that I would ask myself in an interview. I've come to the conclusion that my interviewing skills are completely lacking because the last two people I've hired interviewed incredibly well but have been less than ideal at the tasks that they've been given. My CTO (who was completely useless in giving any guidance as to how) suggested I improve on my interviewing skills. The question is this - How does one programmer interview another programmer and get an understanding of the other programmer's abilities? Edit: Though slightly different, the answers provided to this question could be of use to you. That question concerns specific interview questions while yours seems to be more general about interview approaches and not just about the questions themselves. Update: Just for the hell of it I asked two of the guys I worked with if they could do FizzBuzz. 45 minutes and 80 minutes to work it out. And these aren't bottom level guys either.

• Implementing Naïve Bayes algorithm in Java - Need some guidance

  hello stackflow people As a School assignment i'm required to implement Naïve Bayes algorithm which i am intending to do in Java. In trying to understand how its done, i've read the book "Data Mining - Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques" which has a section on this topic but am still unsure on some primary points that are blocking my progress. Since i'm seeking guidance not solution in here, i'll tell you guys what i thinking in my head, what i think is the correct approach and in return ask for correction/guidance which will very much be appreciated. please note that i am an absolute beginner on Naïve Bayes algorithm, Data mining and in general programming so you might see stupid comments/calculations below: The training data set i'm given has 4 attributes/features that are numeric and normalized(in range[0 1]) using Weka (no missing values)and one nominal class(yes/no) 1) The data coming from a csv file is numeric HENCE * Given the attributes are numeric i use PDF (probability density function) formula. + To calculate the PDF in java i first separate the attributes based on whether they're in class yes or class no and hold them into different array (array class yes and array class no) + Then calculate the mean(sum of the values in row / number of values in that row) and standard divination for each of the 4 attributes (columns) of each class + Now to find PDF of a given value(n) i do (n-mean)^2/(2*SD^2), + Then to find P( yes | E) and P( no | E) i multiply the PDF value of all 4 given attributes and compare which is larger, which indicates the class it belongs to In temrs of Java, i'm using ArrayList of ArrayList and Double to store the attribute values. lastly i'm unsure how to to get new data? Should i ask for input file (like csv) or command prompt and ask for 4 values? I'll stop here for now (do have more questions) but I'm worried this won't get any responses given how long its got. I will really appreciate for those that give their time reading my problems and comment.

• Adding a navigation bar to a web view in a tab bar app

  I've built the tab bar application in IB, with three tabs. The third tab happily displays a UIWebview where you can browse. The only thing missing is a back button, as not all web pages supply such a link. I need a navigation bar hooked up properly to the correct classes. I'm still a bit unsure about exactly how the hierarchy should look in interface builder and how to hook it up properly. Currently, the third tab is hooked up to a referencing outlet called 'webnews' in the class 'thirdviewcontroller', and the UIWebView (under a normal IUView in the hierarchy, which in turn is under the third tab bar controller) is connected to the webnews outlet. How do I make the navbar control the webview, and do I add code to the thirdviewcontroller.m that lets the navbar on the view control the webview 'back' function? What do I hook up as the delegate for it? Currently I have an app delegate, but that's hooked up to the tab bar. I'm not really after specific code as much as a general 'how it works' clue :) (Unless I can just add the navbar dynamically to the functioning app... but I don't think addSubView on viewWillAppear {} in thirdviewcontroller.m will create the proper functionality?) If I were to guess at the simplest solution, I'd guess create a navbarcontroller.h/.m, slap a navbar on the view in IB, connect the third tab to navbarcontroller, connect the navbar to the webview (?) and move the webnews outlet to navbarcontroller.h, and connect the webview to it. But I don't quite have the nerve to try, better to ask advice first.

• MS SQL Database with clustered GUID PKs - switch clustered index or switch to sequential (comb) GUID

  We have a database in which all the PKs are GUIDs, and most of the PKs are also the clustered index for the table. We know that this is bad (due to the random nature of GUIDs). So, it seems there are basically two options here (short of throwing out GUIDs as PKs altogether, which we cannot do (at least not at this time)). We could change the GUID generation algorithm to e.g. the one that NHibernate uses, as detailed in this post, or we could, for the tables that are under the heaviest use, change to a different clustered index, e.g. an IDENTITY column, and keep the "random" GUIDs as PKs. Is it possible to give any general recommendations in such a scenario? The application in question has 500+ tables, the largest one presently at about 1,5 million rows, a few tables around 500 000 rows, and the rest significantly lower (most of them well below 10K). Furthermore, the application is installed at several customer sites already, so we have to take any possible negative effects for existing customer into consideration. Thanks!

• Playing online video on iphone web, the iphone seems to cache the reference movie

  We are working on an online mobile video app, and are trying to play a reference movie on an iphone from the iphone browser. The problem is, the movie plays the first time, but when we try to play a different movie the second time, it doesnt. Quicktime gives a general error message sayin "Cannot Play Movie". More precisely this is what we are trying to do: Connect with an iPhone to a webserver that serves a reference movie (generated with quicktime pro). The ref movie automatically gets downloaded to the iphone by quicktime. Quicktime then chooses one of the 3 references in the reference movie, based on the connection speed, and tries to download the designated movie via a relative path. A servlet gets called and forwards the relative path to the right movie. This all works the first time. However the second time when we want download different movies, we get the quicktime error. Test case: Open reference movie 1 Movie plays in Quicktime Open reference movie 2 ERROR: Quicktime gives an error - Cannot Play Movie Shut down Iphone Turn Iphone on again Open reference movie 2 Iphone plays movie Open movie ERROR: Quicktime gives an error - Cannot Play Movie Did anyone encounter similar issues with quicktime and the use of reference movies and is there something we can do to work around that?

It works great with sites that are anonymous, but I have not been able to use it against a site that is expecting username\password (IIS with Integrated Windows Authentication).   Hi all , i cannot understand a certain part of the paper published by Donald Johnson about finding cycles (Circuits) in a graph. More specific i cannot understand what is the matrix Ak which is mentioned in the following line of the pseudo code : Ak:=adjacency structure of strong component K with least vertex in subgraph of G induced by {s,s+1,....n}; to make things worse some lines after is mentins " for i in Vk do " without declaring what the Vk is... As far i have understand we have the following: 1) in general, a strong component is a sub-graph of a graph, in which for every node of this sub-graph there is a path to any node of the sub-graph (in other words you can access any node of the sub-graph from any other node of the sub-graph) 2) a sub-graph induced by a list of nodes is a graph containing all these nodes plus all the edges connecting these nodes. in paper the mathematical definition is " F is a subgraph of G induced by W if W is subset of V and F = (W,{u,y)|u,y in W and (u,y) in E)}) where u,y are edges , E is the set of all the edges in the graph, W is a set of nodes. 3)in the code implementation the nodes are named by integer numbers 1 ... n. 4) I suspect that the Vk is the set of nodes of the strong component K. now to the question. Lets say we have a graph G= (V,E) with V = {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} which it can be divided into 3 strong components the SC1 = {1,4,7,8} SC2= {2,3,9} SC3 = {5,6} (and their edges) Can anybody give me an example for s =1, s= 2, s= 5 what if going to be the Vk and Ak according to the code? • file layout and setuptools configuration for the python bit of a multi-language library

  So we're writing a full-text search framework MongoDb. MongoDB is pretty much javascript-native, so we wrote the javascript library first, and it works. Now I'm trying to write a python framework for it, which will be partially in python, but partially use those same stored javascript functions - the javascript functions are an intrinsic part of the library. On the other hand, the javascript framework does not depend on python. since they are pretty intertwined it seems like it's worthwhile keeping them in the same repository. I'm trying to work out a way of structuring the whole project to give the javascript and python frameworks equal status (maybe a ruby driver or whatever in the future?), but still allow the python library to install nicely. Currently it looks like this: (simplified a little) javascript/jstest/test1.js javascript/mongo-fulltext/search.js javascript/mongo-fulltext/util.js python/docs/indext.rst python/tests/search_test.py python/tests/__init__.py python/mongofulltextsearch/__init__.py python/mongofulltextsearch/mongo_search.py python/mongofulltextsearch/util.py python/setup.py I've skipped out a few files for simplicity, but you get the general idea; it' a pretty much standard python project... except that it depends critcally ona whole bunch of javascript which is stored in a sibling directory tree. What's the preferred setup for dealing with this kind of thing when it comes to setuptools? I can work out how to use package_data etc to install data files that live inside my python project as per the setuptools docs. The problem is if i want to use setuptools to install stuff, including the javascript files from outside the python code tree, and then also access them in a consistent way when I'm developing the python code and when it is easy_installed to someone's site. Is that supported behaviour for setuptools? Should i be using paver or distutils2 or Distribute or something? (basic distutils is not an option; the whole reason I'm doing this is to enable requirements tracking) How should i be reading the contents of those files into python scripts?

  Hi All, I get following hibernate error. I am able to identify the function which causes the issue. Unfortunately there are several DB calls in the function. I am unable to find the line which causes the issue since hibernate flush the session at the end of the transaction. The below mentioned hibernate error looks like a general error. it doesn't even mentioned which Bean causes the issue. Anyone familiar with this hibernate error? Looking forward your help. • GPGPU programming with OpenGL ES 2.0

  I am trying to do some image processing on the GPU, e.g. median, blur, brightness, etc. The general idea is to do something like this framework from GPU Gems 1. I am able to write the GLSL fragment shader for processing the pixels as I've been trying out different things in an effect designer app. I am not sure however how I should do the other part of the task. That is, I'd like to be working on the image in image coords and then outputting the result to a texture. I am aware of the gl_FragCoords variable. As far as I understand it it goes like that: I need to set up a view (an orthographic one maybe?) and a quad in such a way so that the pixel shader would be applied once to each pixel in the image and so that it would be rendering to a texture or something. But how can I achieve that considering there's depth that may make things somewhat awkward to me... I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me with this rather simple task as I am really frustrated with myself. UPDATE It seems I'll have to use an FBO, getting one like this: glBindFramebuffer(...)

• Invoice & Invoice lines: How do you store customer address information?

  Hi I'm developing an invoicing application. So the general idea is to have two tables: Invoice (ID, Date, CustomerAddress, CustomerState, CustomerCountry, VAT, Total); InvoiceLine (Invoice_ID, ID, Concept, Units, PricePerUnit, Total); As you can see this basic design leads to a lot of repetiton of records where the client will have the same addrres, state and country. So the alternative is to have an address table and then make a relationship Address<-Invoice. However I think that an invoice is immutable document and should be stored just the way it was first made. Sometimes customers change their addresses, or states and if it was coming from an Address catalog that will change all the previously made invoices. So What is your experience? How is the customer address stored in an invoice? In the Invoice table? an Address Table? or something else? Can you provide pointers to a book, article or document where this is discussed in further detail?

• dynamically create class in scala, should I use interpreter?

  Hi, I want to create a class at run-time in Scala. For now, just consider a simple case where I want to make the equivalent of a java bean with some attributes, I only know these attributes at run time. How can I create the scala class? I am willing to create from scala source file if there is a way to compile it and load it at run time, I may want to as I sometimes have some complex function I want to add to the class. How can I do it? I worry that the scala interpreter which I read about is sandboxing the interpreted code that it loads so that it won't be available to the general application hosting the interpreter? If this is the case, then I wouldn't be able to use the dynamically loaded scala class. Anyway, the question is, how can I dynamically create a scala class at run time and use it in my application, best case is to load it from a scala source file at run time, something like interpreterSource("file.scala") and its loaded into my current runtime, second best case is some creation by calling methods ie. createClass(...) to create it at runtime.
