  • Can't install any drivers at all on Windows 8. Error 0x000003F9

    I suddenly can't install any drivers at all on my Windows 8 Pro x64 install. It doesn't matter what kind of driver it is, nothing will install. Everything ends with error 0x000003F9: The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format. When Windows Update tries to install a driver, it just gives error code 800703F9 and says that "Windows Update ran into a problem." I've already done a scan of system files with sfc, tried another user account, done a chkdsk, and a few more things, but nothing works. The problem started when I tried to install drivers for my printer earlier today and suddenly started getting messages saying that "Windows Modules Installer has stopped working." I decided to restart and was being greeted with the recovery boot options. I shut the computer down, but when I booted it back up the same thing happened, so I did a repair your pc, and was able to boot into the OS properly. Then I rebooted into my external drive and did a chkdsk on the Windows 8 install that started acting funny. When I booted back into Windows 8, I wasn't able to install any drivers. They all keep coming up with the same error. And I can't seem to find anything at all on this issue. Any help would be much appreciated.   • OSX telnet not working from localhost

    Telnet from my mac OSx doesn't work while it works from the AWS instances and other networks. I have no local firewalls. Nothing related in /var/log/system In the below transcript, the telnet hangs at "Trying 74.125.136.26..." I have tried many different addresses across multiple domains.. same result !     Hi, We've deployed our first 2008 R2 server on a client site which has replaced their existing 2003 DC. This server provides DNS resolution services to all client machines on that site for general internet usage. Since using the 2008 R2 DNS services we have noticed every couple of days the DNS server starts timing out when requests to certain sites are made (google is the only example I can provide at this time although it seems to be larger sites with problems rather than small - CDN compatiblity issue?). When you restart the DNS Server service then resolution returns to normal... just only for a day or so. Is anybody aware of any significant changes to the DNS server architecture or configuration out of the box in R2 that may explain this intermittent behaviour?   • Cannot access certain URL on my wireless

    Problem: On my wireless network at home, there is one URL that I just cannot access with my browser: http://research.microsoft.com/ I have no problems with the Internet connection otherwise. But on that address I just get The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. from Firefox. I am using a DSL modem (Westell) and Linksys wireless router (using DHCP). When I use my neighbor's wireless connection I can access the microsoft site without a problem. Additional technical details: But with my connection, here is what I get from nslookup.   • Can't get port based virtual hosts working in Apache2.2 CentOS 5.2, Plesk 8.6

    I have installed Google Sitemap Generator on my CentOS server, which is running plesk 8.6. Google Sitemap Generator adds an include to an external conf in my httpd.conf as follows: Listen 8181 NameVirtualHost *:8181 <VirtualHost *:8181> DocumentRoot "/usr/local/google-sitemap-generator/admin-console" ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/usr/local/google-sitemap-generator/admin-console/cgi-bin/" <Directory "/usr/local/google-sitemap-generator/admin-console"> Allow from all Options ExecCGI DirectoryIndex index.html </Directory> </VirtualHost> LoadModule google_sitemap_generator_module /usr/local/google-sitemap-generator/lib/mod_sitemap.so After installation I should be able to navigate to myserverip:8181 and access the GSG console. Unfortunately my browser throws up "Safari can’t open the page “http://myserverip:8181/” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding." I've checked the port with netstat and nmap, and it's open and listening. I've added a rule to allow traffic on 8181 in iptables, but no joy. Is there anything obvious I could be missing?   • Why can't I route to some sites from my MacBook Pro that I can see from my iPad?

    I am on M1 Cable (residential) broadband in Singapore. I have an intermittent problem routing to some sites from my MacBook Pro—often Google-related sites (arduino.googlecode.com and ajax.googleapis.com right now, but sometimes even gmail.com.) This prevents StackExchange chat from working, for instance. Funny thing is, my iPad can route to those sites and they're on the same wireless network! I can ping the sites, but not traceroute to them which I find odd. That I can get through via the iPad implies the problem is with the MBP. In any case, calling M1 support is... not helpful. I get the same behaviour when I bypass the Airport Express entirely and plug the MBP directly into the cable modem.     I am running a postfix mta with debian wheezy. I am using postfix-policyd-spf-python, openkdim and opendmarc. When receiving e-mails from google (google apps with own domain) for example, the header looks like this: [...] Authentication-Results: mail.xx.de; dkim=pass reason="1024-bit key; insecure key" header.d=yyy.com [email protected] header.b=OswLe0N+; dkim-adsp=pass; dkim-atps=neutral<br> [...] Authentication-Results: mail.xx.de; spf=pass (sender SPF authorized) smtp.mailfrom=yyy.com (client-ip=2a00:1450:400c:c00::242; helo=mail-wg0-x242.google.com; [email protected]; [email protected]) [...] Authentication-Results: mail.xx.de; dmarc=pass header.from=yyy.com<br> [...] This means any of these programs creates it's own Authentication-Results:-Line. Is it possible to tell postfix to merge this into one single Authentication-Results:-Line? When I send an e-mail to google, it says: [...] Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx as permitted sender) [email protected]; dkim=pass [email protected]; dmarc=pass (p=NONE dis=NONE) header.from=xxx.com [...] And this is exactly what I want.   • Trying to get a PC to boot off a bootable SD card that is inside an USB attached Android device.

    First, I'd like to make myself look less a madman than I may have appeared to be. I wanted to have a bootable USB stick with me at all times, but it's less convenient because it's an extra object and it's easier to lose, forget etc. Then I thought, I have an Android phone, and it has a micro SD in it; perfect. Not all PC's can boot off a card reader, but the phone itself is a card reader when attached as a disk drive. Or at least so I thought. Turns out that my netbook BIOS (tested on Asus eeePC) refuses to see it as an external harddrive; it only recognizes it as a generic USB device and doesn't offer an option to boot from it. The device has a name "Android phone" or smth, so it seems to me that it doesn't work as a "pure" card reader, and instead still manifests itself as a phone. Can it be somehow overridden?

  • FeedValidator & Feedburner get 404 when accessing wordpress RSS feeds when permalinks are enabled.

    I'm helping a friend set up a self-hosted Wordpress blog + feedburner and I'm seeing a problem with the feeds that I'm finding somewhat mysterious. Using the default permalink structure (e.g., ?p=123) everything works as expected; I can follow the feed in Google reader, navigate to it manually, and set it up in feedburner. However, once I switch away from the default permalink structure, feedburner and feedvalidator both report that accessing the feed is returning HTTP-404 and Google reader no longer shows new posts (I'm assuming for the same reason), but I can navigate to the feed using a browser. When I do that it appears as though nothing is wrong; there is a feed there and it contains all the posts I expect it to have. I've re-started the feedburner & reader set-up from the beginning after changing the link structure, so I don't think they're doing anything silly like looking at the feed at its old address. I've seen people with similar problems in various other places but there doesn't seem to be a good answer anywhere.

  • IPv6 works only after ping to routing box

    Situation: There is ipv4 only router in network and every computer is connected to it (wifi or cable). Server with ipv4 and ipv6 is connected to this router as well. Server has configured tunnelbrokers 6to4 tunnel and radvd. Clients in network has right prefix and can ping each other. But they can't ping to internet until they ping Server (the one with tunnel). I found somewhere that it's icmp problem, but I couldn't find solution.   • IE10 does not open .pdf

    I can't open any PDFs in IE10 on Win7 64bit. I've tested with PDFs from Intranet / Internet / local file system, http and https. I've tested installing/uninstalling Acrobat Reader 11.0.03 and the Nitro PDF Reader. I've also tried enabling/disabling the Tools Internet Options Advanced Security Do not save encrypted pages to disk option. In Google Chrome PDFs are opened in the Acrobat Reader Plugin, but in IE10 the only thing I always get is a small cross in the top left corner of the browser. Can anybody help me?

    I am trying to convert a large number of PDFs (~15000) to plain text using pdftotext. This is working pretty well except for a few of the PDFs (~600) which, I guess, are "PDF portfolios." When I run these PDFs through pdftotext, it just outputs: For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, or later. Get Adobe Reader Now! If I do open these PDFs in Adobe Reader, they look like two or more PDFs inside a single file. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there any tool I can use to convert these PDFs automatically? (Either directly to text or at least to regular PDFs that pdftotext can then understand.)

  • Redirect physical keyboard input to SSH

    I'm having a raspberry pi running debian linux and I have an RFID reader connected to it. The RFID reader behaves like a keyboard. Every time I scan a tag it types then number of the tag and then carriage return. My problem is that I want to redirect the output of the RFID reader to my SSH session. That means anything that is typed to the physical keyboard of the pi should be displayed in my SSH window. I have tried with: cat /dev/tty0 but it wont work because the user is not logged in. Is there a way to disable the login screen after the pi boots and then redirect all input through SSH?

  • PDF Icon changes to blank in Dropbox folder

    Strange enough, the PDF reader icon corrupts in my Dropbox folder on my Windows 8 machine. I am using Windows 8 x64 Pro. If I change the "open with" to some other reader and then back to Adobe Acrobat Reader, it shows the PDF icon and preview of the PDF file. But somehow it MAGICALLY corrupts sometime later and the PDF file gets a blank icon. Possibly corruption of thumbs.db in Dropbox during synchronization? This screenshot is in the root folder of my Dropbox folder on my Windows 8 machine.

  • window.requestFileSystem fails/events firing multiple times in PhoneGap Cordova 3

    cordova 3.1.0-0.2.0 Droid Razr M Android 4.1.2 Windows 7 New to PhoneGap/Cordova. Running one of the filesystem demos from http://docs.phonegap.com/en/3.1.0/cordova_file_file.md.html#File. Using "cordova run android" to compile the code and run it on the phone attached via USB. Problem #1: When the app first starts I get alert("1") twice and then nothing else. Problem #2: When I kick of the code via the button onclick I get the following alert pattern: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6, 5, 7, 4, 6, 5, 7. Some of that makes sense based on the code flow but most of them are firing twice. I'm suspecting problem #2 is being caused by some asynchronous calls hanging out from the first attempt but no matter how long I wait those events don't fire until I kick of the code via the button. So why is the requestFileSystem call failing even though it is waiting for deviceready and why is the other code getting intermingled?
