• Subclassing UINavigationBar ... how do I use it in UINavigationController?

  Hi, I wanted to subclass UINavigationBar (to set a custom background image & text color) and use that for all the navigation bars in my app. Looking at the API docs for UINavigationController, it looks like navigationBar is read-only: @property(nonatomic, readonly) UINavigationBar *navigationBar Is there a way to actually use a custom UINavigationBar in my UIViewControllers? • LaTeX: Multiple authors in a two-column article

  I'm kind of new to LaTeX and I am having a bit of a problem.. I am using a twocolumn layout for my article. There are four authors involved with different affiliations, and I am trying to list all of them under the title so they span the entire width of the page (all on the same level). It should be similar to this: Article Title auth1FN auth1LN 2 ... 3 auth4FN auth4LN department ... department school ... school email@edu ... email@edu Abstract ..................... .................... ..................... .................... ..................... .................... ..................... Currently I have something along the lines: \documentclass[10pt,twocolumn]{article} \usepackage{multicol} \begin{document} \begin{multicols}{2} \title{Article Title} \author{ First Last\\ Department\\ school\\ email@edu \and First Last\\ ... } \date{} \maketitle \end{multicols} \begin{abstract} ... \end{abstract} \section{Introduction} ... \end{document} The problem is that the authors are not displayed all on the same level, instead I get the first three next to each other, followed by the last one underneath. Is there way to achieve what I want? Also if possible, how can I customize the font of the affiliations (to be smaller and in italic)?

This is strange , since lowerPtr = mid + 1 ; lowerBound = lowerPtr -1 ; that means lowerBound = mid ; Why the author didn't pass mid to merge like merge(workSpace, lowerBound,mid, mid+1, upperBound); ? I think there must be a reason , otherwise I can't understand why an algorithm older than half a center ,and have all coincident in the such little detail.

• Synchronizing Asynchronous request handlers in Silverlight environment

  For our senior design project my group is making a Silverlight application that utilizes graph theory concepts and stores the data in a database on the back end. We have a situation where we add a link between two nodes in the graph and upon doing so we run analysis to re-categorize our clusters of nodes. The problem is that this re-categorization is quite complex and involves multiple queries and updates to the database so if multiple instances of it run at once it quickly garbles data and breaks (by trying to re-insert already used primary keys). Essentially it's not thread safe, and we're trying to make it safe, and that's where we're failing and need help :). But instead they all seem to be running and conflicting with each other in the verifyClusters method. One solution would be to force our front end calls to be made synchronously. And in fact, when we do that everything works fine, so the code logic isn't broken. But when it's launched our application will be deployed within a business setting and used by internal IT staff (or at least that's the plan) so we'll have the same problem. We can't force all clients to submit data at different times, so we really need to get it synchronized on the back end. • AS 400 Performance from .Net iSeries Provider

  Hey all, First off, I am not an AS 400 guy - at all. So please forgive me for asking any noobish questions here. Basically, I am working on a .Net application that needs to access the AS400 for some real-time data. Although I have the system working, I am getting very different performance results between queries. Typically, when I make the 1st request against a SPROC on the AS400, I am seeing ~ 14 seconds to get the full data set. After that initial call, any subsequent calls usually only take ~ 1 second to return. This performance improvement remains for ~ 20 mins or so before it takes 14 seconds again. The interesting part with this is that, if the stored procedure is executed directly on the iSeries Navigator, it always returns within milliseconds (no change in response time). I wonder if it is a caching / execution plan issue but I can only apply my SQL SERVER logic to the AS400, which is not always a match. Any suggestions on what I can do to recieve a more consistant response time or simply insight as to why the AS400 is acting in this manner when I was using the iSeries Data Provider for .Net? Is there a better access method that I should use? • Random MKAnnotationView is tapped when there are overlapping annotations

  I cannot believe this bug/problem doesn't have any solution! In my iphone application, I'm using MapKit with MKMapView and custom MKAnnotationView. The problem is when annotations overlap (in my app, annotations are photos and those photos may overlap) and when you tap on the annotation that appears on front, other annotation (on back) receives the event (seems to be random). I didn't find any way to send the event to the front annotation. Z ordering and Order of overlapping annotations questions on stackoverflow did not help me that much. Please any idea is welcome (even ugly ones)!   I have a huge XML(400MB) containing products. Using a DOM parser is therefore excluded, so i tried to parse and process it using a pull parser. Below is a snippet from the each_product(&block) method where i iterate over the product list.   I'd like to create a new operating system for x86 PC computers. I'd like it to be 64-bit but possibly run as 32-bit as well. I have these kinds of questions: What kinds of things do you start working on first? Knowing where to start in writing your own operating system seems to me to be a tricky subject, so I am interested in your input. Generally how to go about making your own 32-bit/64-bit operating system, or good resources that mention useful information about going about writing your own operating system for x86 computers. I don't care how old sources are as long as they are still relevant and useful to what I am doing. I know that I will want it to have kernel drivers that access peripheral hardware directly. Where should I look for advice and documentation for programming and understanding the interface to peripheral hardware the operating system will communicate with? I will need to understand how the operating system will receive input and interact with keyboards, mice, computer monitors, hard drives, USB, etc. etc. This is probably the area I know least about. I have the Intel instruction set manuals and have been getting more familiar with assembly programming, so the CPU side of things is what I know the most about. At this point I'm thinking that I'd like to implement the Linux system calls within my operating system so that programs that run on Linux can run on my operating system. I want my operating system to use the ELF binary format. I wonder what obstacles I have to overcome to achieve this Linux compatibility. Are the main things implementing the system calls that Linux provides, and using the ELF format? What else? I am also interested in people's thoughts about why it might not be a good idea to make your own operating system, and why it is a good idea to make your own operating system. Due to black being transparent color now (kinda stupid choice, why couldn't it be pink) anything that is clBlack becomes transparent, too. It means all labels, edits, button texts... even if I set text to some other color at design time, DWM still makes them that color AND transparent. Well, my question would be - whether it's possible to solve this somehow?

• Segmentation fault on MPI, runs properly on OpenMP

  Hi, I am trying to run a program on a computer cluster. The structure of the program is the following: PROGRAM something ... CALL subroutine1(...) ... END PROGRAM SUBROUTINE subroutine1(...) ... DO i=1,n CALL subroutine2(...) ENDDO ... END SUBROUTINE SUBROUTINE subroutine2(...) ... CALL subroutine3(...) CALL subroutine4(...) ... END SUBROUTINE The idea is to parallelize the loop that calls subroutine2. Main program basically only makes the call to subroutine1 and only its arguments are declared. I use two alternatives. On the one hand, I write OpenMP clauses arround the loop. On the other hand, I add an IF conditional branch arround the call and I use MPI to share the results. In the OpenMP case, I add CALL KMP_SET_STACKSIZE(402653184) at the beginning of the main program and I can run it with 8 threads on an 8 core machine. When I run it (on the same 8 core machine) with MPI (either using 8 or 1 processors) it crashes just when makes the call to subroutine3 with a segmentation fault (signal 11) error. If I comment subroutine4, then it doesn't crash (notice that it crashed just when calling subroutine3 and it works when commenting subroutine4). I compile with mpif90 using MPICH2 libraries and the following flags: -O3 -fpscomp logicals -openmp -threads -m64 -xS. The machine has EM64T architecture and I use a Debian Linux distribution. I set ulimit -s hard before running the program. Any ideas on what is going on? Has it something to do with stack size? Thanks in advance

• IIRF redirect combine rules?

  I have 3 "rules". One to make sure URLs are lowercase another to include a slash at the end of directories, and a 3rd to force access to index.html pages to be thru the directory instead. The problem w/ how I have it is, sometimes this is causing multiple 301 redirects. I'd really like each rule to apply in turn and then if neccessary redirect once to the final url. For example a url might need to be converted to lowercase and have a slash added. Or may need to be lowecase and change from index.html to a directory. Any ideas how I can do this? Thanks very much. • Switching from ListView to VirtualStringTree

  Hey S.O! I am trying to build my projects with a VirtualStringTree rather than a Listview, because of the vast speed difference. The thing is, even after looking thru the demo's, I just can't figure out exactly how I would use it as a ListView. Like, adding, deleting, and basically just working with ListView items is so easy, but when I look at the VT, it gets almost too complicated. All I am looking for, is a VT that looks like a ListView, with subitems etc. Here are some routines using the ListView, that I would like to use with VT (This is just a pseudo example: procedure Add; begin with ListView.Items.Add do Begin Caption := EditCaption.Text; SubItems.Add(EditSubItem.Text): End; end; Procedure ReadItem(I : Integer); begin ShowMessage(ListView.Items[I].Caption); ShowMessage(ListView.Items[I].SubItems[0]); end; Of course, also the Delete function, but since thats like 1 line, I didnt bother :P Could anyone maybe translate the above examples into using a ListView style VT? • How do I get SSIS Data Flow to put '0.00' in a flat file?

  I have an SSIS package with a Data Flow that takes an ADO.NET data source (just a small table), executes a select * query, and outputs the query results to a flat file (I've also tried just pulling the whole table and not using a SQL select). The problem is that the data source pulls a column that is a Money datatype, and if the value is not zero, it comes into the text flat file just fine (like '123.45'), but when the value is zero, it shows up in the destination flat file as '.00'. I need to know how to get the leading zero back into the flat file. I've tried various datatypes for the output (in the Flat File Connection Manager), including currency and string, but this seems to have no effect. I've tried a case statement in my select, like this: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN '0.00' ELSE columnValue END (still results in '.00') I've tried variations on that like this: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN convert(decimal(12,2), '0.00') ELSE convert(decimal(12,2), columnValue) END (Still results in '.00') and: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN convert(money, '0.00') ELSE convert(money, columnValue) END (results in '.0000000000000000000') This silly little issue is killin' me. Can anybody tell me how to get a zero Money datatype database value into a flat file as '0.00'?
