  • Why does running "$ sudo chmod -R 664 . " cause me to get access denied on all affected directories?

    I have a project folder which has messy permissions on all files. I've had the bad tendency of setting everything to octal permissions 777 because it solved all non security related issues. Then FTP uploads, files created by text editors etc. has their own set of permissions making everything a mess. I've decided to take myself together and start using the permissions the way they were meant to be used. I figured 664 was a good default for all my files and folders, and I'd just remove permissions for others on private files, and add +x for executable files. The second I changed my project folder to 664 however: $ sudo chmod -R 664 . $ ls ls: cannot open directory .: Permission denied Which makes no sense to me. I have read/write permissions, and I'm the owner of the project folder.     I am detailing the tasks that I have to do for a certain project (am the sole developer), so I do not have the luxury of MS Project etc., and it has to be in MS Excel. What I would like to do is the following - Create Tasks, Sub Tasks in a way that the SubTasks are hidden beneath the tasks with a "+" sign for the Tasks, which when expanded, shows the SubTasks. This is similar to Grouping. How do I do that?

I am looking for a solution where i can restrict the powerpoint template so that the respondants do not go beyond the given restrictions in filling up the template. Currently we are using MS 2003 so is it possible to have such restrictions in MS 2003. Thansk for your help in advance

  • Laptops on Windows Domain sometimes have problems accessing internet when off-site

    Hi all-- We've had this problem for a long time. When users travel, sometimes they can't get internet access from a wired or wireless connection. Here are a couple examples: 1) A user goes to a hotel and tries to access the wireless in their room. They can connect to the access point. They open a web browser and they can't get re-directed to the hotel's login page. Because they can't log in, there's no internet access. 2) A user goes to another laboratory/university and tries to access the wired network. They connect, link is fine, PC gets IP from DHCP but no internet access. There's no login page to be re-directed to. It should just "work". What I've found is that it's a DNS issue. Because the computer is on a Windows Domain, it seems it MUST use our DNS servers. Even if you connect to an outside network and do an ipconfig /all, it looks like everything is ok. It'll even show their DNS servers listed in the config. The computer just won't use the other network's DNS server. I found a reg key that keeps our DNS servers listed and it seems that they take priority every time: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\DNSClient All the values under that key are for our AD domain. NameServer and Searchlist never change. What I've found is if the user edits the NameServer string and puts the DNS server of the network they're on, everything works just fine. They get re-directed to the hotel's correct login page or their internet access starts working. It's only a problem if the network they're on blocks outside DNS or a hotel that uses an internal name in their front page redirection that only their DNS server knows about, i.e., not public. If the re-direct page starts with an IP, like 10.10.10.10, it'll work just fine. Obviously this isn't a fix for everyone. Most of my users are pretty knowledgeable so it’s easy for me to walk them through or send them a .reg file that they can edit and run. This problem isn't limited to Windows 7. It was like this with XP as well. It's not hardware related. The problem exists on both wired and wireless, Intel or Broadcom, laptops or desktops. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a GPO I can change that I missed? Got a good work-around for this? Thanks for any help!

  • Can I regenerate the rsa key for SSH access to a Cisco router? Or should I completely erase the SSH config?

    I have a production 2691 that I administer via telnet. I'd like to change that to SSH. Looking at the config, it looks like there have been keys generated in the past. I think the history here is SSH was set up, they had issues connecting, and fell back to telnet. There are a number of crypto entries, including the following: crypto pki trustpoint Gateway-2691.xxx.com enrollment selfsigned subject-name cn=IOS-Gateway-2691.xxx.com revocation-check none rsakeypair Gateway-2691.xxx.com I've also got this going... Gateway-2691#sh ip ssh SSH Disabled - version 1.99 %Please create RSA keys (of atleast 768 bits size) to enable SSH v2. Authentication timeout: 120 secs; Authentication retries: 3 Gateway-2691# My question is simply, can I run crypto key generate rsa again to set it up again? Is there a way to negate or no all of the previous ssh config so that I can start fresh there? I may be asking the wrong questions, as I'm learning here. As for the SSH how-to, I'm sure I can find information in many places. I'm just basically wondering if I need to start fresh, or if I can pick up where the last attempt at SSH config left off.

There are a variety of tools available to help you and Support diagnose SOA Suite issues in 11g but it can be confusing as to which tool is appropriate for a particular situation and what their relationships are. This blog post will introduce the various tools and attempt to clarify what each is for and how they are related. Let's first list the tools we'll be addressing: RDA: Remote Diagnostic Agent DFW: Diagnostic Framework Selective Tracing DMS: Dynamic Monitoring Service ODL: Oracle Diagnostic Logging ADR: Automatic Diagnostics Repository ADRCI: Automatic Diagnostics Repository Command Interpreter WLDF: WebLogic Diagnostic Framework This overview is not mean to be a comprehensive guide on using all of these tools, however, extensive reference materials are included that will provide many more details on their execution. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them. A couple of the tools have a WebLogic Scripting Tool or 'WLST' interface. WLST is a command interface for executing pre-built functions and custom scripts against a domain.     I get the folowing error in my Silverlight application. But i cant figure out what control it is that is the problem. If i debug it don't break on anything in the code, it just fails in this framework callstack with only framework code. Is there any way to get more information on what part of a Silverlight app that is the problem in this case.   • How to optimize simple linked server select query?

    Hello, I have a table called Table with columns: ID (int, primary key, clustered, unique index) TEXT (varchar 15) on a MSSQL linked server called LS. Linked server is on the same server computer. And: When I call: SELECT ID, TEXT FROM OPENQUERY(LS, 'SELECT ID, TEXT FROM Table') It takes 400 ms. When I call: SELECT ID, TEXT FROM LS.dbo.Table It takes 200 ms And when I call the query directly while being at LS server: SELECT ID, TEXT FROM dbo.Table It takes 100 ms. In many places i've read that OPENQUERY is faster, but in this simple case it does not seem to work. What can I do to make this query faster when I call it from another server, not LS directly?

    How do I start validation from the client/javascript using the MS MVC Validation library? Using MS ASP.Net MVC, I have a page with a PartialView in a modal dialog (change password). When the user selects 'save', I need to validate this on the client side without a full page postback. I am able in JS to post and refresh the partialView, however I am unable to start client validation. The MS MVC validation starts on postback (Input type='submit'). How can I start this in JS?     Azure itself is imo PaaS and not IaaS. Do you agree? MS gurantees an availability of 99% and a strong consistency. You can find MS SLAs here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsazure/sla (three SLAs Uptime: http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/4889/unbenanntqt.png ) I can't find anyhing about how they are going to archive that. Do they do backups? If Yes: How do they manage consistency? According to the Cap theorem (http://camelcase.blogspot.com/2007/08/cap-theorem.html ) their claims are not realistic. 2.1 Do you know detailed technical stuff about the how they are going to realize the claims about consistency and availability? On the MS page you'll find three SLAs .docs, one for SQL Azure, the second for Azure AppFabric/.Net Services and the third for Azure Compute&Storage.(Screenshot in 1.) How can one track whether SLAs are violated? Do they offer some sort of monitor, so I don't have to measure the uptime by myself?

    MS Cassini Development Web Server is a nice product that executes web requests in a similar way that IIS7 does. Every request (event for static content) goes through the same .Net pipeline without exception. All custom HttpModule can handle any request. But sometimes you don't want these modules to execute for certain content (most often static content). In this regard, MS Cassini doesn't read/obey <system.webServer> web.config settings like IIS7 does. I'm particularly interested in these settings. <system.webServer> ... <handlers /> <modules /> </syste.webServer> Does UltiDev's Cassini (a separate payable product upgraded from MS Cassini) web server read these settings and execute as the web.config tells it to?

  • MSSQL Efficiently dropping a group of rows with millions and millions of rows

    I recently asked this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2519183/ms-sql-share-identity-seed-amongst-tables (Many people wondered why) I have the following layout of a table: Table: Stars starId bigint categoryId bigint starname varchar(200) But my problem is that I have millions and millions of rows. So when I want to delete stars from the table Stars it is too intense on MS SQL. I cannot use built in partitioning for 2005+ because I do not have an enterprise license. When I do delete though, I always delete a whole category Id at a time. I thought of doing a design like this: Table: Star_1 starId bigint CategoryId bigint constaint rock=1 starname varchar(200) Table: Star_2 starId bigint CategoryId bigint constaint rock=2 starname varchar(200) In this way I can delete a whole category and hence millions of rows in O(1) by doing a simple drop table. My question is, is it a problem to have thousands of tables in your MS SQL? The drop in O(1) is extremely desirable to me. Maybe there's a completely different solution I'm not thinking of?
