• Windows 2008 Group Policy Setting? - Migration Headache

  I have a small domain of users that I just migrated from a linux domain running open-ldap. Our new servers are running Windows 2008 Standard. I've installed Active Directory and everything is working perfectly... except that the initial user privileges is pretty restrictive and I need to loosen it up a bit. For example once they login to their workstations, they can create new files and folders but can not modify existing files or start. I basically want to open it all up except for software installations. Can someone please help with with this migration headache?

I went to create a new project using this pattern only now the immediate window says retPlatKeys is out of scope and hovering over retPlatKeys after loading I get something like retPlatKeys|0x0000000002578900. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Can not find Picasa Web Album, under Google App admin panel/google app/Other Google Services

  We got a Google App account that we use with our domaine name. We use the core service apps (gmail, calendar, drive, etc.). Now we are looking into going into Google+. To be able active Google+ for my users, I need to activate Picasa Web Album first. But I can't find it anywhere in my admin panel. It's suppose to be under Google Apps/Add Services/Other Services, but it's not. The only thing I see there is "Google App Engine" and "Google Apps Marketplace". Is it because I don't have Google Apps for business account? Thanks.

• How do I view the job queue in lftp after it has moved to a background process?

  I've just started using lftp for remote transferring files on my Raspberry Pi running Debian. I know how to transfer the files, and use queue and jobs to add and view transferring files. However, I'm not actually sure on how to view these transfers once lftp moves to the background. The lftp man page mentions how lftp is moving to the background, but when I open a new instance of the program from shell and type jobs, the queue is empty. However, I can clearly see using my file manager that the transfers are still happening, as the files are there and growing in size. I'm guessing that when I reopen lftp, it's just opening a new instance that isn't connected to the nohup mode lftp that has the active queue. I've tried searching various places, but no one else seems to have this particular issue. So, I guess what I'm asking is twofold: Is there a way to easily attach to the background lftp process to view the current jobs list? If not, is there a way to view this at all?

  I know that I can check CPU info via cat /proc/cpuinfo and memory info via cat /proc/meminfo. • KVM-Guests can't get past bridge - no internet connection

  I'm running a backported KVM on a Debian Squeeze. ATM the KVM-Guest can't connect to the internet through the bridge I have set up. The guests can reach each other, the host but nothing outside. I can neither ping, nslookup or do anything to a remote address. The guest are configured to have a static IP. When I didn;t have the bridge but a virtual bridge (the KVM-default) the guest could connect fine. • Pfsense: Inbound Load Balancing https with sticky connection

  first of all I'm very sorry for my English... This is my scenario: Internet Firewall+LB: pfsense_1(Active) + pfsense_2(Passive) in CARP Pool servers: 3 x nginx(PHP5+HTTP+HTTPS) Pfsense 1 and 2 CARP configured with Virtual IP (pubblic). Nginx servers's ips are all private. I want to load balance inbound HTTP and HTTPS connections between the 3 nginx web servers. An importat thing is that the HTTPS connections must be "sticky connections": in HTTPS connections, after login by username and password, I setup a php session and therefore when a client starts a HTTPS connection it will be always redirected to the same nginx server, until it disconnects itself, it closes the page/browser or after a timeout (30minutes?) without activity. Is this possible whit the last release(2.0.1) of pfsense? thank you very much...

  We have a Windows server (2008 R2) with the "Remote Desktop Services" feature installed and no Active Directory domain. Remote desktop is set up to "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)". This means that before the remote screen is displayed, the connection is authenticated in a "Windows Security: Enter your credentials" window. The only two role services installed on this server is the RD Session Host and Licensing. When the "User must change password at next logon" checkbox is selected in the properties for a local user on this server, the following displays on a client computer after attempting to connect using the credentials that were last valid: On some other servers using RDP for admin access (but without the Remote Desktop Services role installed), the behavior is different -- the session begins and the user is given a change password prompt on the remote screen. What do I need to do to replicate this behavior on the Remote Desktop Services server?

• Forwarding MySQL connection with iptables and differents network interfaces

  I have a PC with Ubuntu as a router. It has a 3G connection with a public IP to the Internet, and there is a private wireless subnet. So it has two active interfaces: ppp0: public IP (WAN) wlan0: private IP (LAN) With iptables I wannt to forward every MySQL connection (port 3306) to a local machine (10.42.43.10) of the subnet. I type these iptables commands: iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i ppp0 -p tcp --dport 3306 -j DNAT --to 10.42.43.10:3306 iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i ppp0 -o wlan0 -d 10.42.43.10 --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT But it doesn't work. telnet publicip 3306 fails :-( Any help will be appreciated. • Getting gridview column value as parameter for javascript function

The other column is a TemplateField column (LinkButton) and as the user clicks on the button it will grab the value from the ID column and pass the value to one of my javascript function. • AWS VPN Tunnel going down without traffic

  I managed to setup a site-to-site VPN connection from Amazon VPC to a company's network, and after a lot of configuration it was working fine, but now i realized that the VPN tunnel is DOWN every time there's no traffic going trough for a couple minutes. The only way that i have found to generate traffic is to reach the amazon instance from the company's network and then the tunnel goes up again. I had a cronjob doing ping every minute, but i think it should have a keepalive option somewhere, or at least a log file of the tunnels to find out what's going on. Any ideas to keep the tunnel up and/or bring it up from amazon? The firewall is a Checkpoint R75.20, it only allows one tunnel at a time for the same subnet, so i cant have both tunnels active. Thank you, any questions just ask. EDIT I forgot to add, the ping keepalive was working great (maybe generating a bit of traffic, but nothing to worry about), the connection dropped because i had to restart the instance, and it that little time it dropped me.

• Cookies not present after using XMLHttpRequest

  I'm trying to make a bookmarklet to download videos off of YouTube, but I've come across a little problem. To detect the highest quality video available, I use a sort of brute force method, in which I make requests using the XMLHttpRequest object until a 404 isn't returned (I can't do it until a 200 ok is returned because YouTube redirects to a different server if the video is available, and the cross-domain policy won't allow me to access any of that data). Once a working URL is found, I simply set window.location to the URL and the download should start, right? Wrong. A request is made, but for reasons unknown to me, the cookies are stripped and YouTube returns a 403 access denied. This does not happen if the XML requests aren't made before it, i.e. if I just set the window.location to the URL everything works fine, it's when I do the XMLHttpRequest that the cookies aren't sent. The only downside is I can't automatically detect the highest quality, I just have to try every "fmt" parameter manually until I get it right. So my question is: why is the XMLHttpRequest object removing cookies from subsequent requests? This is the first time I've ever done anything in JS by the way, so please, go easy on me. ;)

• Debugger Visualizer, ElementHost, and Edit and Continue problems

  I recently wrote a custom Debugger Visualizer for Visual Studio 2008 for one of the custom types in my application. The UI for the visualizer is written in WPF and is hosted in an element host and shown using the IDialogVisualizerService windowService object. Everything works great, and my visualizer loads and shows the relevant information, but if try to "edit and continue" in my application after loading the visualizer, Visual Studio crashes with no useful error message. In trying to debug this I removed almost all of my code from the solution to the point where I was only serializing a string with the ObjectSource and displaying just an empty element host and I still get the crash on edit and continue. If I remove the element host and show a WinForms control or form there is no crash. • SQL Server "Long running transaction" performance counter: why no workee?

  Please explain to me the following observation: I have the following piece of T-SQL code that I run from SSMS: BEGIN TRAN SELECT COUNT (*) FROM m WHERE m.[x] = 123456 or m.[y] IN (SELECT f.x FROM f) SELECT COUNT (*) FROM m WHERE m.[x] = 123456 or m.[y] IN (SELECT f.x FROM f) COMMIT TRAN The query takes about twenty seconds to run. I have no other user queries running on the server. Under these circumstances, I would expect the performance counter "MSSQL$SQLInstanceName:Transactions\Longest Transaction Running Time" to rise constantly up to a value of 20 and then drop rapidly. Instead, it rises to around 12 within two seconds and then oscillates between 12 and 14 for the duration of the query after which it drops again. According to the MS docs, the counter measures "The length of time (in seconds) since the start of the transaction that has been active longer than any other current transaction." But apparently, it doesn't. What gives?

• Postfix configuration - Uing virtual min but server is bouncing back my mail.

  I have no experience in setting up postfix, and thought virtualmin minght do the legwork for me. Appears not. When I try to send mail to the domain (either [email protected] [email protected] or [email protected]) I get the following message returned This is the mail system at host dedq239.localdomain. I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below. For further assistance, please send mail to <postmaster> If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message. The mail system <[email protected]> (expanded from <[email protected]>): User unknown in virtual alias table Final-Recipient: rfc822; [email protected] Original-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected] Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; User unknown in virtual alias table How can I diagnose the problem here? It seems that the mail gets to my server but the server fails to locally deliver the message to the correct user. (This is a guess, truthfully I have no idea what is happening). I have checked my virtual alias table and it seems to be set up correctly (I can post if this would be helpful). Can anyone give me a clue as to the next step?   How do I test the changes to the pam.d configuration files: Do I need to restart the PAM service to test the changes? Should I go through every service listed in the /etc/pam.d/ directory? I'm about to make changes to the pam.d/common-* files in an effort to put an Ubuntu box into an active directory controlled network. I'm just learning what to do, so I'm preparing the configuration in a VM, which I plan to deploy in metal in the coming week. It is a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 server, so other than SSH daemon, all other services are stock.

  I am trying to setup a "catchall" address. In my virtual_mailbox table I have emails setup like so: select * from virtual_users; id | domain_id | password | email ----+-----------+---------------------------------------------- 3 | 1 | ***************** | [email protected] 4 | 1 | ***************** | [email protected] That works great on its own. When I try to add a virtual alias for the catchall: select * from virtual_aliases; id | domain_id | source | destination ----+-----------+-------------------+--------------------------- 1 | 1 | @domain.com | [email protected] Once I add that virtual_alias, all email is going to catchall and I can send any to [email protected]. Is there something I need to do to shift around the priority? • In WPF 3D, why can't a perspective camera's LookDirection be straight down?

  I'm attempting to position my perspective camera 30 units above the origin and pointing straight down. If I set the LookDirection of the camera to "0,0,-1", however, everything disappears. I have to make it "0.01,0.01,-1" for it to work. • PostgreSQL server: 10k RPM SAS or Intel 520 Series SSD drives?

  We will be expanding the storage for a PostgreSQL server and one of the things we are considering is using SSDs (Intel 520 Series) instead of rotating discs (10k RPM). Price per GB is comparable and we expect improved performance, however we are concerned about longevity since our database usage pattern is quite write-heavy. We are also concerned about data corruption in case of power failure (due to SSDs write cache not flushing properly). We currently use RAID10 with 4 active HDDs (10k 146GB) and 1 spare configured in the controller. It's a HP DL380 G6 server with P410 Smart Array Controller and BBWC. What makes more sense: upgrading the drives to 300GB 10k RPM or using Intel 520 Series SSDs (240GB)?

We are planning to configure Active Directory NAT DNS server Visual Studio Team Foundation Server Subversion (SVN) Trac (Bug tracking tool) FTP server And our Hardware configuration is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual (Core processor 5600+, 2.60 GHz) Asus motherboard (M2N series) Transcend 4 GB RAM (800 MHz) 500 GB Hard Disk (RAID enabled) But my colleague is advising me AMD won't suite for servers platforms, and use Intel environment. Also they telling we can't install all the services to one server. I got confusion what to do?... Is really can`t install above services to AMD computer? Thanks...
