  I want to upgrade my Mac Snow Leopard ruby from 1.8.7 to 1.9.1 version, anyone know the painless and best way to upgrade? because i read some forum/post/blog/discussion say that is it not good to override the ruby that ship by apple and what the best way to upgrade rails from version 2.2.2 to 2.3.8? because all the information that i find either is for leopard/tiger only & few complicate article for snow leopard. and they also say is it not good to override the rails that ship by apple. anyone can help me? • Sync GIT and ClearCase

  I am currently working on ClearCase and now migrating to GIT. But we need this migration in a way that all work will be done in GIT and the data will be synced backed to ClearCase stream. We will have the same branch names and stream names in both GIT and CC, so scripting shouldn't be a problem. The problem here is, Can someone suggest which is the best model to sync CC and GIT Have all the Vobs in CC as single repo in GIT, and have the major stream in CC as various branches in GIT. - Single GIT repo (VOBS) and many branches (CC streams). - This takes up less space as VOBs are kept as single repo with many branches. Have important CC branches as independent GIT repositories and each repository having all the CC VOBs. - Many GIT repo for many CC branch - This will take up lots of space as VOBs will be replicated across. Which do you think is the best way to keep it in sync with ClearCase

Here is I think the best presentation of my table. -Somedate is not duplicated - it is date of modifiedon -a,b,c are parent ids, let say countryCode -1,2,3,4 are subparent, let say citycode -guids are id of rows -true, false are values of rows - one can name this column - freshAir a 1 GUID somedate true a 1 GUID somedate true a 2 GUID somedate false a 2 GUID somedate false b 3 GUID somedate false b 3 GUID somedate false b 3 GUID somedate false b 4 GUID somedate false c 5 GUID somedate true c 6 GUID somedate true c 6 GUID somedate false c 6 GUID somedate false c 7 GUID somedate false I want the most recent rows MAX(modifiedon) grouped by countrycode and citycode and in this groups I need elements which have another values (true, false). • Setting the Identity/Principal from a MessageInspector in WCF

  I am developing a WCF service that receives the user's credentials in the SOAP header. These credentials are read on the server side using a MessageInspector. So far so good. I want to set the Thread.CurrentPrincipal to a custom principal (CustomPrincipal), but when I do this from the MessageInspector, it gets overridden by the time the service is invoked. When is the best time to set the principal? Also what is the best way to pass the principal, identity or credentials from the inspector to that location?

• XML: Multiple roots + text content outside the root. Does anyone do it?

  I have another one of those "is it done in XML" questions (my last one about xml comments hasn't been answered if anyone has a good explanation) I was just wondering if anyone, anywhere would: Use multiple root elements in an XML document Put text content outside of a root element W3C discourages these practices, Javascript's DOMParser doesn't even allow these cases, and I can't think of one sane reason to do either of these things. However, I know how bizarre some implementations of XML have been, so I wouldn't be surprised. Does anyone have any real world examples where this would be done? I will also accept an answer that specifies if other mainstream parsers allow doing either of these.

But in TD(1) I think update rule will be: Q(t-2) = (1-alpha) * Q(t-2) + (alpha) * (Reward(t-2) + gamma * Reward(t-1) + gamma * gamma * Max( Q(t) ) ) My question: The term gamma * Reward(t-1) means that I will always take my best action at t-1 .. which I think will prevent exploring.. However, I want to become a better Javascript programmer. I'd like to learn all the best-practices, tricks of the trade, things to avoid, and anything else I should know so that my code will be 100% optimized and as readable as possible. How do I do that? I realize this question has been loosely asked before here, but the OP was something of beginner. I want to get into the more advanced side of Javascript programming with this question. Is this possible or am I just being way too impatient? Do I just need to spend loads of time programming?

• Run groovy script from within gradle

  What's the best way to create a gradle task, which runs a groovy script? I realize that gradle build files are groovy, so I would think it would be possible to do something like this: task run << { Script app = new GroovyShell().parse(new File("examples/foo.groovy")) // or replace .parse() w/ a .evalulate()? app.run() } I get all kinds of whacky errors when I try this if bar.groovy is using @Grab annotations or even doing simple imports. I want to create a gradle task to handle this, so that I can hopefully reuse the classpath definition. Would it be better to move the examples directory into the src directory somewhere? What's a best practice?

• Maven: Unofficial artifact naming scheme?

  I'm creating some Maven artifacts for various dependencies for our projects, and while I'm taking my best guess at group / artifact IDs, I'd like to add something to flag them as "unofficial" and created by us for compilation, so that should we find official sources for the same thing in the future there's no confusion and we can simply change to point to the identifiers. Is there a best/common/reccomended practice for doing so? I was just thinking something like setting groupId="org.providername.unofficial", but since Maven's all about "doing it our way" I just want to see if there's a precedent for something different already...

• Formatting address of different types

  I have various classes which all contain address details, i.e. AddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressLine3, Suburb, Town, etc. On the front end, I need to format the address in a particular way, i.e. AddressLine1<br /> AddressLine2<br /> Suburb State Postcode If AddressLine2 does not exist or empty, don't show it. Quite straight-forward. I am trying to determine the best way to show this info. At the moment, the Address property of each class calls a FormatAddress method which writes out the html string. This exists as a method of the class. My opinion is that any formatting should exist from the front-end control i.e. ascx etc. However, if these DetailClasses need to format the same address info, what would be the best option, also making it easier to maintain?

• Who owns the intellectual property to Fragile Allegiance?

  Fragile Allegiance was developed by Gremlin Interactive, which was later acquired by Infogrames (Atari). I couldn't find any details of the acquisition though. The only interesting thing I have found online is that the owner of the registered trademark Fragile Allegiance is Interplay, who published Fragile Allegiance. However, the only copyright note I've found was in one installation .ini file, claiming it for Gremlin. What are the common business practices when it comes to old, unused IPs? What do publishers/developers actually need to legally claim an intellectual property? Does anyone have an experience with contacting big publishers with copyright/IP inquiries? Related legal question.

• How to structure controller to sort multiple criteria asp.net mvc

  Hi, What's the best way to set up a controller to sort by many (possibly null) criteria? Say for example, I was building a site that sold cars. My CarController has a function Index() which returns an IList of cars to the view, and details on each car are rendered with a partial view. What's the best way to structure this? Especially if there are a lot of criteria: Car Type (aka SUV), Car Brand, Car Model, Car Year, Car Price, Car Color, bool IsNew, or if I want to sort by closest to me etc... I'm using NHibernate as my ORM. Should I have just a ton of possible NHibernate queries and figure out which one to choose based on if/then's in the controller? Or is there a simpler way. I am now working on a project where we are limited to .Net 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005. I liked the clean separation of concerns when working with ASP.Net MVC, and am looking for something to make webforms less unbearable. Are there any recommended patterns or practices for people who prefer asp.net MVC, but are stuck on .net 2.0 and visual studio 2005?
