• Working with datetime type in Quickbooks My Time files

  I'm attempting to process Quickbooks My Time imt files using PHP. The imt file is a plaintext XML file. I've been able to use the PHP SimpleXML library with no issues but one: The numeric representations of datetime in the My Time XML files is something I've never seen before: <object type="TIMEPERIOD" id="z128"> <attribute name="notes" type="string"></attribute> <attribute name="start" type="date">308073428.00000000000000000000</attribute> <attribute name="running" type="bool">0</attribute> <attribute name="duration" type="double">3600</attribute> <attribute name="datesubmitted" type="date">310526237.59616601467132568359</attribute> <relationship name="activity" type="1/1" destination="ACTIVITY" idrefs="z130"></relationship> </object> You can see that attritube[@name='start'] has a value of: 308073428.00000000000000000000 This is not Excel based method of storage 308,073,428 is too many days since 1900-01-00 and it isn't Unix Epoch either. So, my question is, has anyone ever seen this type of datetime representation?

• What could cause these Apache crash errors ?

  Hello guys. I had a server crash several days ago. I use Cacti to keep stats: at the time when the server crashed, a huge spike from Load 1 to Load 200 occurred, with over 800 processes in the run queue ( from 300 average).   One table in my MySQL database tracks game plays. It has the following structure: SCENARIO_VICTORIES [ID] [scenario_id] [game] [timestamp] [user_id] [winning_side] [play_date] ID is the autoincremented primary key. timestamp records the moment of submission for the record. winning_side has one of three possible values: 1, 2, or 0 (meaning a draw) One of the queries done on this table calculates the victory percentage for each scenario, when that scenario's page is viewed. The output is expressed as: Side 1 win % Side 2 win % Draw % and queried with: SELECT winning_side, COUNT(scenario_id) FROM scenario_victories WHERE scenario_id='$scenID' GROUP BY winning_side ORDER BY winning_side ASC and then processed into the percentages and such. Sorry for the long setup. My problem is this: several of my users play each other, and record their mutual results. So these battles are being doubly represented in the victory percentages and result counts. Though this happens infrequently, the userbase isn't large and the double entries do have a noticeable effect on the data. Given the table and query above - does anyone have any suggestions for how I can "collapse" records that have the same play_date & game & scenario_id & winning_side so that they're only counted once?

• Storing Credit Card Numbers in SESSION - ways around it?

  I am well aware of PCI Compliance so don't need an earful about storing CC numbers (and especially CVV nums) within our company database during checkout process. However, I want to be safe as possible when handling sensitive consumer information and am curious how to get around passing CC numbers from page to page WITHOUT using SESSION variables if at all possible. My site is built in this way: Step 1) collect Credit Card information from customer - when customer hits submit, the information is first run through JS validation, then run through PHP validation, if all passes he moves to step 2. Step 2) Information is displayed on a review page for customer to make sure the details of their upcoming transaction are shown. Only the first 6 and last 4 of the CC are shown on this page but card type, and exp date are shwon fully. If he clicks proceed, Step 3) The information is sent to another php page which runs one last validation, sends information through secure payment gateway, and string is returned with details. Step 4) If all is good and well, the consumer information (personal, not CC) is stored in DB and redirected to a completion page. If anything is bad, he is informed and told to revisit the CC processing page to try again (max of 3 times). Any suggestions?

• Word forms with too many ActiveX checkboxes load slowly.

  Hi there, my company's software product has a feature that allows users to generate forms from Word templates. The program auto fills some fields from the SQL database and the user can fill in other data that they desire. So we have a .dotx template that holds the design of the form, and then the user gets the .docx file to fill out when they call it from our program. The problem we're having is that some of our users have been finding that the forms take an exceptionally long time to open up and then, once open, are so slow to respond (scroll around, etc) that they're unusable. So in my investigations so far, I've found out that the problem systems are one with lower powered CPUs (unfortunately it happens for systems above our system requirements) and the Word forms that cause the problems are ones with large amount of ActiveX style checkboxes on them. I verified that reducing the ActiveX checkboxes fixes the form loading problems. So I have the following questions about solutions (we're using Word 2007): 1) Is there any way to configure Word, or some other settings, so that there won't be such a strain opening a Word form with lots of ActiveX checkboxes? Any way of speeding up Word's opening? 2) Using Legacy style checkboxes instead of the ActiveX ones makes the forms load fine, but it looks like the user has to double-click the checkbox and change Default Value-Checked. Is there a way to configure it so that they can simply click on the checkbox to tick it? "Legacy Forms" checkbox as a name kind of worries me (Legacy…), does that mean a future version of word at some point wouldn't load the checkboxes because they're "legacy"? 3) Yes, it became clear to me after a little bit of research into solutions that Word is not the tool for the job for forms like I'm describing. InfoPath seems to be exactly what we should have been using all along but unfortunately I wasn't involved in the decision making or development of these forms, just tasked with coming up with a solution. I'd appreciate answers to any of these, or if anyone has any other ideas for solutions to this problem. Thanks

  Hi all, I am having an issue when using jeditable to edit a cell in a table. The project is the MVC 2 web application and the table has been put on the standard about page. How do i tell the script to call a specific method in the controller ? because it is currently just loading the entire page into the cell.   I'm not sure if this is possible, is there a way to get the <mx:Form> to set its own height based on the position of an element within it?   A very simple java code inside a doGet() servlet is getting more than a second of cpu time on GAE. That seems to be a very simple request and still is using more than a second of cpu. What I am missing?

• Matlab GUI - How to get the previous value entered from a callback function?

  Hi, I know that this is probably a simple problem but I am new to Matlab GUI's and basically want to get the old value which used to be stored in the text box to replace the value which has just been entered. E.g. Text box contains a valid string, User enters invalid string, Callback func, validates input and realises new input is an error and reverts to the old previous value. How should this be implemented or done? Atm I am just using the get and set property values. • Open a dialog box in same window on selectOneMenu change

  I have a jsf page where I have a selectOneMenu and , I want to open a dialog box on selectOneMenu changes. As a example if user selects a value ="passive" from jsf selectOneMenu it should open a dialog box or a light box on same page where I want to display a small jsf form like as here done. http://www.primefaces.org/showcase-labs/ui/dialogLogin.jsf and I also want save that submitted data in my backing bean somewhere so I can store it in to database later. I dont know how to open a dialog box or light box from backing bean in same window,as we will identify value change using valueChangeListener event or by using ajax event. • [AS3] Calling Php Script with UTF-8 POST variables

  AS3 documentation says that Strings in AS3 are in UTF-16 format. There is a textbox on a Flash Clip where user can type some data. When a button is clicked, I want this data to be sent to a php script. I have everything set up, but it seems that the PHP script gets the data in UTF-16 format. • how to make a software and preserve database integrity and correctness and please help confused

  i have made an application project in vs 08 c#, sql server from vs 08. the database has like 20 tables and many fields in each have made an interface for adding deleting editting and retrieving data according to predefined needs of the users. now i have to 1) make to project in to a software which i can deliver to professor. that is he can just double click the icon and the software simply starts. no vs 08 needed to start the debugging 2) the database will be on one powerful computer (dual core latest everything win xp) and the user will access it from another computer connected using LAN i am able to change the connection string to the shared database using vs 08/ debugger whenever the server changes but how am i supposed to do that when its a software? 3)there will by many clients am i supposed to give the same software to every one, so they all can connect to the database, how will the integrity and correctness of the database be maintained? i mean the db.mdf file will be in a folder which will be shared with read and write access. so its not necessary that only one user will write at a time. so is there any coding for this or? please help me out here i am stuck do not know what to do i have no practical experience, would appreciate all the help thank you

• Document management, SCM ?

  Hello, This might not be a hard core programming question, but it's related to some of the tools used by programmers I suspect. So we're a bunch of people each with a bunch of documents and a bunch of different computers on a bunch of operating systems (well, only 2, linux and windows). The best way these documents can be stored/managed is if they were available offline (the laptop might not always be online) but also synchronized between all the machines. Having a server with extra reliable storage be a "base repository" seems like a good idea to me. Using a SCM comes to my mind and I've tried Subversion, and it seems to be a good thing that it uses a centralized repository - but: When checking out the total size of the checkout is roughly double the original size. Big files or big repositories seem to slow it down. Also I've tried rsync, which might work - but it's a bit rough when it comes to the potential conflict. Finally I've tried Unison (which is a wrapping of rsync, I think) and while it works it becomes horribly slow for the big directories we have here since it has to scan everything. So the question is - is there a SCM tool out there that is actually practial to use for a big bunch of both small and big files? If thats a NO - does anyone know other tools that do this job? I don't know where to write the "new repairs" code, in this view or the controller (in update part). • Can someone tell me why I'm seg faulting in this simple C program?

  I keep on getting seg faulted, and for the life of me I dont why. The file I'm scanning is just 18 strings in 18 lines. I thinks the problem is the way I'm mallocing the double pointer called picks, but I dont know exactly why. I'm am only trying to scanf strings that are less than 15 chars long, so I don't see the problem. • Calculating distance from latitude, longitude and height using a geocentric co-ordinate system

  I've implemented this method in Javascript and I'm roughly 2.5% out and I'd like to understand why. My input data is an array of points represented as latitude, longitude and the height above the WGS84 ellipsoid. These points are taken from data collected from a wrist-mounted GPS device during a marathon race. My algorithm was to convert each point to cartesian geocentric co-ordinates and then compute the Euclidean distance (c.f Pythagoras). Cartesian geocentric is also known as Earth Centred Earth Fixed. i.e. it's an X, Y, Z co-ordinate system which rotates with the earth. My test data was the data from a marathon and so the distance should be very close to 42.26km. However, the distance comes to about 43.4km. I've tried various approaches and nothing changes the result by more than a metre. e.g. I replaced the height data with data from the NASA SRTM mission, I've set the height to zero, etc. Using Google, I found two points in the literature where lat, lon, height had been transformed and my transformation algorithm is matching. What could explain this? Am I expecting too much from Javascript's double representation? (The X, Y, Z numbers are very big but the differences between two points is very small). My alternative is to move to computing the geodesic across the WGS84 ellipsoid using Vincenty's algorithm (or similar) and then calculating the Euclidean distance with the two heights but this seems inaccurate. • Does anyone know of any good open source voting software?

  I'm looking for a voting system that we can implement at work amongst our developers. We need something that allows developers to submit ideas about what we can do to improve our development practices (amongst other things) and then have all the developers vote on the ideas to give everyone an idea of what ideas we should attempt to implement first. For example, our developers could list ideas for parts of our code base that should be improved/cleaned up and we'd be able to collectively vote on which parts to start on first. Something like www.uservoice.com might be one way of getting what we need but I'm still wanting to look at alternatives. Unfortunately, googling for voting and polling systems just doesn't seem to bring up any useful results because most of them seem geared towards elections and surveys rather than a way for people to make suggestions and vote on them. Does anyone here know of any sort of software system that might be able to do what I'm looking for? Better yet, does anyone have such a system set up for the developers at their work place? I'd be interested in knowing if it is useful at all.
