• Audio processing in C# or C++

  Hi, I would like to create an application that uses AI techniques and allows the user to record a part of a song and then tries to find that song in a database of wav files. I would have liked to use some already existing libraries for the audio processing part. So, could you recommend any libraries in C# which can read a wav file, get input from microphone, have some audio filters (low pass, high pass, FFT etc) and maybe have the ability to plot the audio signal as well. I would prefer to develop in C#, but if there aren't good libraries for audio processing, I guess I could work in C++ as well. As far as I know, Mathlab already has the above mentioned functionalities, but I can't use it in my application.

• A Question About the Expressive Power of Higher-Order Logical Reasoning Formalisms.

  Hi! I do not really know if this is scientifically proven, but I've read in a book (It was a relatively modern AI book by Peter Norvig) that secon-order logical programming could be more expressive than existing first-order languages. The question is: Is it statistically/symbolically proven that higher-order predicate logics exceed first-order predicates in their expressive power? Or they just bring the modularity/convenience/maintainability to your knowledge bases? Additionally: If there is some kind of firm direction in which I could go seeking more expressive power than I have (I mean exactly the descriptive potential of the symbols I write in given semantics/syntax) - then I would be glad to hear just almost everything :) Thank you.

  I am attempting to write a Genetic Algorithm based on techniques I had picked up from the book "AI Techniques for Game Programmers" that uses a binary encoding and fitness proportionate selection (also known as roulette wheel selection) on the genes of the population that are randomly generated within the program in a two-dimensional array. I recently came across a piece of pseudocode and have tried to implement it, but have come across some problems with the specifics of what I need to be doing. I've checked a number of books and some open-source code and am still struggling to progress. I understand that I have to get the sum of the total fitness of the population, pick a random number between the sum and zero, then if the number is greater than the parents to overwrite it, but I am struggling with the implementation of these ideas. Any help in the implementation of these ideas would be very much appreciated as my Java is rusty.

  Hi, I'm trying to find best free expert system, with the highest functionality. I know about CLIPS, but is there another system, for example being able to accept percent of confidence for each rule (fuzzy logic). I need it to know will I be able to do fast a short project using expert system, with highest functionality. But anyways, it's interesting is there an open source program that aims to gather different AI methods (whitch there are plenty of), and use them together. So I would be extremely thankeful for any info about more robust CLIPS, or similar programs. Thanks!

  I'm coding some critter AI for a game i am working on for my Unity 3D project. I have no programming background and have been stumbling through this using tutorials and other peoples scripts. My problem is that i want my critter to run directly away from the player when the player kicks it. I need the dodo to run directly away from the player when kicked, and i dont know the math nor the syntax to calculate that angle. They are two characters moving independently through worldspace. Here is what i got so far: waypoint = (fleeWP.transform.position); transform.LookAt(Vector3(waypoint.x, transform.position.y, waypoint.z)); transform.Translate (Vector3.forward * speed * Time.deltaTime); This currently makes the critter move towards the waypoint, rather than away. I might be attacking this all wrong. Please chastise me.

  Hi, I am trying to detect the numbers written on a grid and then process them using the iPhone camera. What i have found till yet are some good examples like: http://blog.damiles.com/?p=93 http://cmgresearch.blogspot.com/2010/01/augmented-reality-on-iphone-how-to_01.html Although I am able to draw the numbers on the overlay view to a good extent but still not able to detect what these numbers are. What I don't wanna do is to go through the whole AI process: training the system, providing the system whole set of values and then process them, because this is so much troublesome for me as well for the performance of my application.   Hi, A lot of interesting code/projects are implementations of protocols, eg SNMP. How are projects like these, which depend on implementing a certain format, developed? Is the process something like get the guidelines of the protocol and then implement code which follows it. For example, XML-RPC is about transmitting XML docs between client/server, so the documentation on this protocol must outline the structure of the XML documents and then the way the transportation between client and server works, so the coder will implement this sort of functionality (xml doc construction, networking between the client and server). Projects I am thinking of (not to develop) are C# libraries which can interpret .PSDs, make VHDs, etc. So if I was to develop a C# app to implement .AI files (Illustrator files), what would be the steps I would look at (such as contacting Adobe, etc)? Is this the way such projects are developed?

For example: The Engine renders at a decent speed. May be a fact but is not what I am interested in. If the same article states: A class is a reference type. • Parsing C# Script into Java

  I'm looking for a way to easily read in a C# file and place it into a Java Object for database storage (storing the class name, functions, variables, etc). I'm making a Hierarchical State Machine AI Building Tool for a game I'm creating and need to be able to import an existing C# file and store it in a database for retrieval in the future. Does anyone know of any preexisting libraries for parsing C# files? Something similar to JavaParser? Thanks everyone! EDIT: This needs to be part of my Java Project. I'll be loading in the C# files through my Java Application and saving it into my db4o database.

The most obvious solution would be: SELECT COUNT(*) as ExecutesNum, DATE(Date) as D, HOUR(Date) as H GROUP BY D, H And it works, BUT it does not create rows for hours where there were no executes. For instance, I made the 16x16 size icons, they looked ok in PS or AI, but after saved them as some other image types, they are not that clear at all. • Social Media Talk: Facebook, Really?? How Has It Become This Popular??

  If you have read some of my previous posts over the past few years either here or on my personal blog David's Journal on Tap you will know I am a Social Media enthusiast. I use various social media sites everday in both my work and personal life. I was surprised to read today on Mashable.com that Facebook now Commands 41% of Social Media Trafic. When I think of the Social Media sites I use most, the sites that jump into my mind first are LinkedIn, Blogging and Twitter. I do use Facebook in both work and in my personal life but on the list of sites I use it probably ranks closer to the bottom of the list rather than the top. I know Facebook is engrained in everything these days - but really I am not a huge Facebook fan - and I am finding that over the past 3-6 months my interest in Facebook is going down rather than up. From a work perspective - SM sites let me connect with candidates and communities and they help me talk about the things that I am doing here at Oracle. From a personal perspective SM sites let me keep in touch with friends and family both here and overseas in a really simple and easy way. Sites like LinkedIn give me a great way to proactively talk to both active and passive candidates. Twitter is fantastic to keep in touch with industry trends and keep up to date on the latest trending topics as well as follow conversations about whatever keyword you want to follow. Blogging lets me share my thoughts and ideas with others and while FB does have some great benefits I don't think the benefits outweigh the negatives of using FB. I use TweetDeck to keep track of my twitter feeds, the latest LinkedIn updates and Facebook updates. Tweetdeck is a great tool as it consolidates these 3 SM sites for me and I can quickly scan to see the latest news on any of them. From what I have seen from Facebook it looks like 70%-80% of people are using FB to grow their farm on farmville, start a mafia war on mafiawars or read their horoscope, check their love percentage, etc...... In between all these "updates" every now and again you do see a real update from someone who actually has something to say but there is so much "white noise" on FB from all the games and apps that is hard to see the real messages from all the 'games' information. I don't like having to scroll through what seems likes pages of farmville updates only to get one real piece of information. For me this is where FB's value really drops off. While I use SM everyday I try to use SM effectively. Sifting through so much noise is not effective and really I am not all that interested in Farmville, MafiaWars or any similar game/app. But what about Groups and Facebook Ads?? Groups are ok, but I am not sure I would call them SM game changers - yes there is a group for everything out there, but a group whether it is on FB or not is only as good as the community that supports and participates in it. Many of the Groups on FB (and elsewhere) are set up and never used or promoted by the moderator. I have heard that FB ads do have an impact, and I have not really looked at them - the question of cost jumps and return on investment comes to my mind though. FB does have some benefits, it is a great way to keep in touch with people and a great way to talk to others. I think it would have been interesting to see a different statistic measuring how effective that 41% of Social Media Traffic via FB really is or is it just a case of more people jumping online to play games. To me FB does not equal SM effectiveness, at the moment it is a tool that I sometimes need to use as opposed to want to use.
