  I'm writing an ANT task in Java. In my build.xml I specify parameters, which should be read from my java class. Problems occur, when I use special characters, like german umlauts (Ö,Ä,Ü) in these parameters. In my java task they appear as ?-characters (using System.out.print). All my files are encoded as UTF-8. and my build.xml has the corresponding declaration: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> For the details of writing the task: I do it according to http://ant.apache.org/manual/develop.html (especially Point 5 nested elements). I have nested elements in my task like: <parameter name="test" value="ÖÄÜtest"/> and a java method: public void addConfiguredParameter(Parameter prop) { System.out.println(prop.getValue()); //prints ???test } to read the parameter values.

  Is getJSON only useful for those who control a server? Is there any other alternative for getting data from a file? i tried $.getJSON("good.json", function(data){ out=out+"good.json: "+data + ","; }); where good.json = {"a":"1","b":"2"} and got a result of 'null' for data. These all are valid JSON files, and all give null when used in the above: good.htm assoc.json assoc.js stub.json stub.js test.js test.txt and all get a null result... • Unable to load the Starteam Dump into SVN

  Hi, I have a dump created from StarTeam 2008 R 2 (10.4.7.-64) using svn importer 1.1-M8. But when I am trying to import the dump its giving me error: * adding path : tags/Test/GH/13_Environment/Process/Capgemini EN Template - Business Case.doc ...svnadmin: File already exists: filesystem 'help\db', transaction '2-2', path 'tags/Test/GH/13_Environment/Process/Capgemini EN Template - Business Case.doc' I can see from the svn admin load o/p that the file has been added already. May be the dump created by SVN Importer is not correct. Can anyone guide me how to solve this ?

  I'm trying out mock/responsibility driven design. I seem to have problems to avoid returning mocks from mocks in the case of finder objects. An example could be an object that checks whether the bills from last month are paid. It needs a service that retrieves a list of bills for that. So I need to mock that service that retrieves the bills. At the same time I need that mock to return mocked Bills (since I don't want my test to rely on the correctness bill implementation). Is my design flawed? Is there a better way to test this? Or is this the way it will need to be when using finder objects (the finding of the bills in this case)?

My problem is that I'm stumped when it comes to defining test properties for my functions. • Testing ASP.NET security in Firefox

  I'm not sure whether this question belongs on StackOverflow or SuperUser, but here goes nothing... I'm trying to test out some basic security problems on my personal ASP.NET website to see exactly how the custom validators, etc. work when tampering with the data. I've been looking at the Firefox extension TamperData which seems to do the trick, but it doesn't feel very professional at all. The issues I'm having with TamperData is that the textbox for the POST data is way too small to hold the ASP.NET view-state, so I have to copy that data into Emacs and then back again to be productive at all. I also don't like that there doesn't seem to be an option to only tamper with data which is from/to localhost. Any ideas on better extensions for the task or better methods to test it?

• Any way to separate unit tests from integration tests in VS2008?

  I have a project full of tests, unit and integration alike. Integration tests require that a pretty large database be present, so it's difficult to make it a part of the build process simply because of the time that it takes to re-initialize the database. Is there a way to somehow separate unit tests from integration tests and have the build server just run the unit tests? I see that there is an Ordered Unit test in VS2008, which allows you to pick and choose tests, but I can't make it just execute alone, without all the others. Is there a trick that I am missing? Or perhaps I could adorn the unit tests with an attribute? What are some of the approaches people are using? P.S. I know I could use mocking for integration tests (just to make them go faster) but then it wouldn't be a true integration test.

• Reducing the pain writing integration and system tests

  I would like to make integration tests and system tests for my applications but producing good integration and system tests have often needed so much effort that I have not bothered. The few times I tried, I wrote custom, application-specific test harnesses, which felt like re-inventing the wheel each time. I wonder if this is the wrong approach. Is there a "standard" approach to integration and full system testing? EDIT: To clarify, it's automated tests, for desktop and web applications. Ideally a complete test suite that exercises the full functionality of the application.

• Setting amount of time to pass when sending emails in a loop

  Forgive me for this noob question, but is there such a setting that sets a certain amount of time (e.g. milli/seconds) that has to pass in between sending emails through a script? How is that setting called and where do I change that setting? I'll give an example: I used to have a PHP script that sends emails like so: for ($i=0; $i<count($emails); $i++) { mail($email[$i],'test','test'); } It turned out that not all emails were sent successfully because the script ran so fast that there was not enough time in between sending emails that was required by the server. Did I make sense?

• Error calling webservice from JQuery

  I have a strange problem when I'm trying to call a simple webservice method from Jquery. Locally it works fine, but on my test-server it does not. The jquery request looks like this (only showing the actual request and not the rest of the method): $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/Service/Service.asmx/AddTab", data: "tab=" + element.innerHTML, success: function(msg) { alert('success'); } }); When I run this locally from the test-server it works fine, which has me wondering if it could be some setting that I've missed in the IIS. If I navigate to the .asmx file and click the AddTab method I get a list of SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 XML, but not the HTTP POST request. • I need acpi=off to boot, but this seems to disable wifi

  To boot my computer, I have to use acpi=off in kernel options. Doing this apparently causes my wifi adapter to be switched off and prevents my mouse and USB keyboard to not work. If I change acpi=off to nomodeset, it fixes these problems. But then it sets my computer at a lower resolution. I am currently running Kubuntu 13.10, although none of the updates, starting from 12.04, changed the need for acpi=off. I assume I need acpi=off in because I have an oldish computer with an intel motherboard How can I boot without acpi=off? • include_once fails!

  Hi, I am new to php. I thought I knew enough but apparently do not. I am trying to use the OAuth.php from code.google.com. So I include OAuth.php in my code. Here is my php file - index.php <?php print 'Hello1'; include 'test.php'; print 'Hello2'; include 'OAuth.php'; print 'Hello3'; ?> Here test.php, OAuth.php and index.php are all in the same directory. Amazingly enough, I see Hello1 and Hello2 but not Hello3. What am I missing. Its driving me crazy. Any help is greatly greatly appreciated. I am using php5 with apache 2.2 and also have the oauth.so module installed and loaded from php.net. SV

• XCode - Copy sqlite DB from simulator and copy onto device for testing

  Hello, I am working on a Core Data app, and have populated the sqlite file in the iPhone Simulator with all of the fixtures/data that I use to test the app. I would like to use that sqlite file as a standardized set of testing data. The devices that I test the app on all have different data sets, and I would like to standardize on the one in the simulator. Is there a way in XCode (3 or 4) to add a step to the build/install process that will copy the sqlite file from the iPhone Simulator and install it over the file on the phone (if one exists)? • Any 3D, Isometric, RPG oriented engines?

  I was wondering if there are any game engines out there that are oriented towards isometric, 3D RPGs such as Diablo 3, Torchlight, Magika, etc.. Most engines I found so far are either oriented towards FPS, such as Cry Engine and UDK, or are far too generic, such as the Irrlicht engine, which will add what I think is unnecessary work on the engine instead of the game. Any chance there are any engines out there that are crafted to be more suitable for RPGs? I would prefer they be in Java, since it's more my forte, but beggars can't be choosers, so C++ is great as well! Thank you.

• Installing Bugzilla on Ubuntu 9.04 and Plesk

  Hey guys. I'm trying to install the latest Bugzilla version on my ubuntu server. (Want to use a subdomain like bugs.domain.com) I already installed all necessary perl modules and check_modules.pl doesn't show any errors. But when I'm running the testserver.pl script I get the following: TEST-OK Webserver is running under group id in $webservergroup TEST-FAILED Fetch of images/padlock.png failed I'm also not able to visit ANY file within the bugzilla folder from the browser. I'm always getting a 404 error. The bugzilla folder and all containing files are set to apache as the owner. I tried to enter the apache configuration form the installation guide in the http.include file of the domain and in the vhosts.conf file of the subdomain as well. I don't know what to do... Playing with plesks' suexecgroup doesn't bring any solution... I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!
