  I am working on rolling a bit of my own version of linux for my real time car application. I plan to base it off of minimal ubuntu (only needsd 32 MB of memory). I am not the most skilled person with linux so not really sure how to assess components when adding them to my system. What I am looking for is a lightweight windows manager to replace gnome and it has to support the gtkmm library. Does anyone know of one?

  Situation: I have this log4j logger: private static final Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(ThisClassName.class); And am trying to set it programatically through: Logger.getLogger(ThisClassName.class).setLevel(Level.DEBUG); Still, DEBUG level prints are swalloed (while INFO prints are printed successfully). Even this bit has no effect: Logger.getRootLogger().setLevel(Level.DEBUG); Calling logger.debug("foo") reaches Category.forcedLog() and ConsoleAppender.doAppend(), and then fails (quits) at: if(!isAsSevereAsThreshold(event.getLevel())) Any idea why this is happening?

• How to resize an image smoothly (with resampling) using Windows API calls?

  I need to resize images and resample them so they don't end up all jagged (I think that's called aliasing). I found some code (sorry, lost the link) that does this in pure VB6 code but it's a bit slow (2-5 seconds) and I'm displaying pictures in real time so I need something faster. I seem to recall seeing some examples of doing this with the GDI+ library. An example in VB6 would be ideal, but I can probably work with a simple example with Windows API calls in another language.

• Java slick command line app?

  Hello Guys, I want to make a slick java commandline app which doesnt include all the nasty "java -jar some.jar arguments" instead, I would have it work just like program -option argument like any other commandline app. I use ubuntu linux, and it would be fine if it included a bit of .sh script or anything. I know I can just create a file with java -jar program.jar and do chmod +x file, afterwards I could run i with ./file, but then how can I pass the arguments to the program ?

I've been searching everywhere for something on how to fully make a navigation-based iphone app, but all I've found is how to set up table views or navigation controllers. I haven't found anything on how to create a data model (something simple from arrays and dictionaries, SQLite and CoreData are a bit out of my scope) or navigate it. Looking up the definition of entropy finds this graph showing how many bits of output I should, in theory, be able to get from each bit of input.   Hi folks, I'm currently using os.popen() but have been recommended to use subprocess.popen() instead. Any ideas on how I can integrate this? It would be cool and fun to have a Python shell accessible on a Django app. But I reckon that it might be a bit complex to implement.   I'm bit confused. I've been building my sites with my own session system, but i'm not sure how secure the php's own session system is. My session system usually just has user id and quite harsh hash, which does not include user name or password for generation. I save the hash in the user database and as a cookie to confirm the user session on every page load. So my question is should i keep using my own systems or try out php sessions?
