  • How to store coordinates in a database

    Hello all! I have a Flex GUI where I have to place quadrate elements. The position of these elements need to be stored into a database. So I can create two integer fields in the db table x and y. Also I need an angle, because the user can rotate these elements, so I can also make a int (int is okay, I do not need a double value therefore). As a ORM, I use Hibernate. But the question is, if creating three integer fields is the best way to handle this. Perhaps someone can tell me if this will be okay or if there are better ways? However, it's getting the database to find data that's the issue. I need to make a migration between 2 database connections, one of them having unique index on 2 fields and one doesn't. And my migration is empty. It looks like Doctrine doesn't support indexes when importing from databae, other than those tied to relationship foreign keys. $changes = Doctrine_Core::generateMigrationsFromDiff($migrationsPath, array('doctrineOld'), array('doctrine'));

    When you have a slow database app, the first suggestions that people make is to: Track the slow queries Add appropriate indexes In the case you are building your own application this is very logical, but when you use a CMS like Drupal, that are people have developed and tuned, is this approach valid? I mean, aren't Drupal tables already fine-tuned for performance? Even if I try to see which queries are the slow ones, what could I do about it? Re-write Drupal core?!?

    I am creating a very simple script. The purpose of the script is to pull a question from the database and display all answers associated with that particular question. We are dealing with two tables here and there is a foreign key from the question database to the answer database so answers are associated with questions. Hope that is enough explanation.     I know I am going about this in an unusual way, every tut I've seen uses multiple tables, but due to the way the rest of my site works I would like to create a chained select which operates using a single table.     I'm wanting to store items in my database with a DATE value for a certain day. I don't know how to get the current Monday, or Tuesday, etc. from the current week. Here is my current database setup. menuentry id int(10) PK menu_item_id int(10) FK day_of_week date message varchar(255) So I have a class setup that holds all the info then I was going to do something like this... foreach ( $menuEntryArray as $item ) { if ( $item->getDate() == [DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE] ) { // code to display menu_item information } } So I'm just unsure what to put in "[DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE]" to compare to see if the date is specified for this week's Monday, or Tuesday, etc. The foreach above runs for each day of the week - so it'll look like this...     i have a question. I have a website in which i am giving security like login id and password( as usual). No what i want is that, 1) I don't want to allow a single user to login in different machine at the same time. 2) For this i am using a column in database which is keeping the current status of user(i.e. loging/logout). I am allowing user to login only when has session has not closed and status is login. 3) So my problem is that when i am logging out manually. it is closing the session as well as updating the database with status "logout". 4) but when i am closing the window from Cross buttonat top right corner. it is closing the ssion but table data is still "login". so later on i can't be able to login into the same user. 5) So how could i solve this problem. Please help me!
