• No sound on laptop speakers on an Acer Aspire 6920

  Computer: Acer Aspire 6920 Card: HDA Intel Chip: Realtek ALC889 My problem is that the laptop build-in speakers don't play any sound. When i plug in my headphones the sound works normally, the same goes with external speakers. Those work normally like the headphones. The profile in the Sound settings is Analog two-way Stereo. I am using Ubuntu 12.04. Might trere be any problem with my sound drivers or something similar? Any form of help appreciated.

'format' => array('before', 'input', 'after', 'label', 'after', 'error') )); Do you start with one array parameter, then break a line? If it can't fit on a line, do you immediately break a line? After of which, do you do a set number of tabs over? What happens if an array within an array has lots of properties? Is there any particular guide you follow?

• Login and redirect to user home page [migrated]

  The problem I can't currently solve is when a user logs in. They arrive at the site (index.php) and enter username and password, which gets submitted via a Post form back to index.php - if there are incorrect details then they get an error message. But if successful then I would like them to be taken to their user home page - but I can't do this! I am left presenting them with a link to the home page, which is more than a little clunky. Seems there must be an obviously solution - never seen a site before that didn't redirect! Not sure is the answer is PHp, HTML, or Javascript.

• Redirect from domain to other one

  I deal with the following problem. I am customer of one domain reseller, which has fair prices, fine administration, and I have all my domains registered by it. Recently I've created a new webpage using a free web service (those sites where you can create a simple webpages with some template after few clicks). This new web page has default address in the following form: "pagename.provider.cz", but I want to use my own domain "pagename.cz". And that is the problem, because the provider would assign domain name to my presentation only if I registered mentioned domain by him. That wouldn't be a problem, but he is three times more expensive then my favorite one. So I am thinking about registering domain "pagename.cz" under my favorite registrator and then making 301 PHP redirect from it to "pagename.provider.cz". Shall this affect (negatively) my domain ranking? Are there any catches which I shoud care about?

  I'm working with a group of people from around the world to create a game engine (and hopefully a game with it) within the next upcoming years. My first task is to write a camera class for the engine to use in order to add cameras to the scene, with position and follow points. The problem I have is with using matrices for transformations in the class, should I keep matrices separate to each class? Such as have the model matrix in the model class, camera matrix in the camera class, or have all matrices placed in one class/chuck? I could see pros and cons for each method, but I wanted to hear some input form a more professional standpoint.

• Need in obtaining a specific local telephone number [closed]

  I am wanting a local phone number that I like. I have found one that I like. When I call the number that I want it says "this number has not been allocated" I have looked up and found the company that owns that number. How do I go about acquiring that number from the company. I spoke with someone who sells major phone packages and he said that if I signed up with them he could get the number for me. He said that there is a change of ownership form that the send to get the number. So I know it can be done. I am hoping that someone with industry specific knowledge in this area can guide me in getting this number.

• Does anyone know of a simple (free?) feature request tracking system we could use internally for sales people?

  I sometimes hear about pain points of customers using our app from sales people, but there really isn't a good way for us to currently keep track of these. I was going to write one myself but figured I would ask first. I was thinking something so simple it would literally just be a small form for adding a new feature, and then it would appear in the list, like stackexchange questions. Then users can upvote them, or even record each time a user complains about something related to the request so we can order them in priority based on real data. Then I can easily go look every few days and see what's going on. That's really it, nothing more complicated than that. Know of anything?

• Basic memcached question

  I have been reading up on distributed hashing. I learnt that consistent hashing is used for distributing the keys among cache machines. I also learnt that, a key is duplicated on mutiple caches to handle failure of cache hosts. But what I have come across on memcached doesn't seem to be in alignment with all this. I read that all cache nodes are independent of each other and that if a cache goes down, requests go to DB. Theres no mention of cache miss on a host resulting in the host directing the request to another host which could either be holding the key or is nearer to the key. Can you please tell me how these two fit together? Is memcached a very preliminary form of distributed hashing which doesnt have much sophistication?

This is especially true for game development. That being said, if you are designing a game from scratch from engine to front end, what steps should be taken in order? • If you should only have one assertion per test; how to test multiple inputs?

  I'm trying to build up some test cases, and have read that you should try and limit the number of assertions per test case. So my question is, what is the best way to go about testing a function w/ multiple inputs. For example, I have a function that parses a string from the user and returns the number of minutes. The string can be in the form "5w6h2d1m", where w, h, d, m correspond to the number of weeks, hours, days, and minutes. If I wanted to follow the '1 assertion per test rule' I'd have to make multiple tests for each variation of input? That seems silly so instead I just have something like: self.assertEqual(parse_date('5m'), 5) self.assertEqual(parse_date('5h'), 300) self.assertEqual(parse_date('5d') ,7200) self.assertEqual(parse_date('1d4h20m'), 1700) In the one test case. Is there a better way?

  I finished University around 4 years ago double degree in Software Eng/Comp Sci. Got my first job at a startup in my final year, was with them for 2.5 years then started my own business. So far everything is going great, lots of clients and stead work etc, but coming right out of uni and into a start up I never had any form or senior software engineer guiding my work or suggesting improvements etc... Whats the best way for me to improve & learn more? Books? MS Exams? Other? I develop in C#, ASP.NET/MVC. Update The problem isn't really with releasing products, I've released quite a few which are up and running with customers happy. It's more with quality of code, best practices, how do I know something I am code is correct, it may work but there may be ways of coding it much more efficiently or by adhering to some kind of standard Cheers for any responses! • My Laptop Battery Does Not Charge

  I am using a HP Pavilion and Ubuntu 11.10. I have been using Ubuntu for about a year. Recently (in Nov or there about), I noticed my battery never charges fully no matter how long it has been plugged in. I thought it was a problem with the power pack. However, after changing it, the problem is still persisting. I upgraded to 11.10 form 11.04 at about the same time so I do not know if this is a software or hardware issue. How do I solve this? We write one failing unit test and make it pass as simply as possible. What are the benefits to this approach over writing many failing unit tests for a class and make them all pass in one go. The test suite still protects you against writing incorrect code or making mistakes in the refactoring stage, and code coverage should be just as high, so what's the harm? Sometimes it's easier to write all the tests first as a form of 'brain dump' to quickly write down all the expected behavior in one go.

• How to pass information across domains to ask for newsletter only once?

  Lets assume following scenario, I have two sites: example1.com example2.com When user visits 1 there is a prompt "please signup to a newsletter". Same thing happens when user visits 2. However when navigating from 1 to 2 I don't want signup form to be shown. • SEO: Is promoting your backlinks a good strategy for improving search results for my site's name?

  I run a website that's been around for about three years in the sports space. I am successfully ranking well for targeted keywords, but searching for the name of my site itself returns very poor results - it shows my site, its FB/Twitter, and then 15 pages of unrelated spam that happen to contain two words that, when combined, form my website's name. After that, my backlinks begin to show up spordically. As far as I can tell, I simply don't have enough backlinks and the backlinks I do have are ranked worse than the spam. (Site Explorer lists 200 external links to any page on our domain and 20 external links directly to the front page). To counter this, my strategy is to promote my backlinks so they get a better page rank than the spam. Does that make sense? Am I going in the right direction or should I just focus on getting more backlinks pointing directly to my site? Thanks in advance and I'd be happy to answer any questions I can (without giving away my site of course).

• Cant find one particular wireless network. Worked before, but sudenly stopt working.

  My first question here. My problem is: I cant find my wireless network at home. Situation: It worked fine 7 days ago. It works with a cable(wierd). I find the network on my ipad/phone. I can connect to wireless hotspot network form my phone and wireless at my university, and it works fine. I can connect to the network in windows What I have tried: Tried this Strange network issue; works on windows, but not on ubuntu, works on campus wireless, but not at home (removing resolve.conf). Hardware and software: I have a Broadcom card Use dual boot ubuntu 12.04 - windows 7 Things I did to make wireless work: blacklist brcmsmac blacklist bcma blacklist b43 blacklist ssb Can anyone help me?   it's couple of months I've been using SH404SEF With my site. But in my site I'm getting url's in the form: http://www.downloadformsindia.com/Income-Tax-Forms/all-income-tax-return-itr-forms-2010-2011.html?task=view If I remove this suffix(?task=view), it takes us to the same page. I had raised this issue in SH404SEF forum, and I was told that this data is taken as parameter by search engines hence ignored. I want to redirect using RewriteMatch in .htaccess all such url's to the url's without ?task=view ones : ....downloadformsindia.com/Income-Tax-Forms/all-income-tax-return-itr-forms-2010-2011.html?task=view to be redirected to http://www.downloadformsindia.com/Income-Tax-Forms/all-income-tax-return-itr-forms-2010-2011.html So my question is: Will this redirection create 404's in the Google webmaster. I've thousand's of pages in the site

• Duplicate pages indexed in Google

  I did a small coding mistake and Google indexed my site incorrectly. This is the correct form: https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/TENGA-CUP-DOUBLE-HOLE But Google indexed my site like this: https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/cart.aspx First I fixed the problem and made a site map with only the correct link in it. Now I checked webmaster tools and I see this: Total indexed 513 Not selected 544 Blocked by robots 0 So I think this can be caused by double indexes, and it looks like the pages not selected makes the correct pages not indexed. I want to know how to fix the "https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/cart.aspx" links. Should I fix in code or should I connect to Google to re-index my site? If I should redirect wrong/duplicate links to correct ones, how should that be done?
