• Error starting modern compiler

  In my servlet , I m using Tomcat 5.0 and JRE is 1.5.0 but it is giving error when I click on the URL . As when I created a war file of my project and deployed in tomcat than it is working fine . • SQL Server 2008 Restore from Backup fails with error 3241 'cannot process this media family'

  I am attempting to backup a database from a SQL Server instance on one machine and restore it to another, and I am encountering the frequently discovered 'SQL Server cannot process this media family' error. Each of my instances are SQL Server 2008, but with different patch levels Restore: 10.0.2531.0 Backup: 10.0.1600.22 ((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414 ) The restore DB is express. Not sure about the backup version. The backup version is on a virtual private server. The restore is on my development box. When I restore to a different database on the source (backup) server, it restores fine. Lots of stuff on google about this issue, some on stackoverflow about this issue, but nothing which is this exact situation. Any thoughts? It should be straightforward to do a backup and restore from one machine to another (having done this thousands of times in with SQL 6.5,7,2000,2005).

  Following this guide on CentOS 5.2, just getting nagios set up for the first time. The main page shows up just fine, but when I try to view any of the pages that should be generated by a cgi process, firefox prompts me to save the .cgi instead, so apache's obviously not understanding that it needs to run the cgi and get back some html from it. This config file is being parsed by apache, because if I move it out of conf.d, /nagios gives a 404. The .cgi files are indeed in the /nagios/cgi-bin/ directory, so I didn't specify the incorrect directory. Searching seemed to only provide people who had difficulty with permissions, which is not the issue here. This seems to me to be a pretty basic thing, but even with the excellent apache documentation, I'm at a bit of a loss (been using cherokee too much lately :) ).

• Copy SQL Server data from one server to another on a schedule

  I have a pair of SQL Servers at different webhosts, and I'm looking for a way to periodically update the one server using the other. Here's what I'm looking for: As automated as possible - ideally, without any involvement on my part once it's set up. Pushes a number of databases, in their entirely (including any schema changes) from one server to the other Freely allows changes on the source server without breaking my process. For this reason, I don't want to use replication, as I'd have to break it every time there's an update on the source, and then recreate the publication and subscription One database is about 4GB in size and contains binary data. I'm not sure if there's a way to export this to a script, but it would be a mammoth file if I did. Originally, I was thinking of writing something that takes a scheduled full backup of each database, FTPs the backups from one server to the other once they're done, and then the new server picks it up and restores it. The only downside I can see to this is that there's no way to know that the backups are done before starting to transfer them - can these backups be done synchronously? Also, the server being refreshes is our test server, so if there's some downtime involved in moving the data, that's fine. Does anybody out there have a better idea, or is what I'm currently considering the best non-replication way to go? Thanks for your help, everybody. UPDATE: I ended up designing a custom solution to get this done using BAT files, 7Zip,command line FTP, and OSQL, so it runs in a completely automatic way and aggregates the data from a dozen servers across the country. Mug 1913, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operation failed because an index or statistics with name ‘Ix_Table1_1′ already exists on table ‘Table1′. The immediate reaction to the error was that I might have created that index earlier and when I researched it further I found the same as the index was indeed created two times. This totally makes sense. This can happen due to many reasons for example if the user is careless and executes the same code two times as well, when he attempts to create index without checking if there was index already on the object. However when I paid attention to the details of the error, I realize that error message also talks about statistics along with the index. I got curious if the same would happen if I attempt to create indexes with the same name as statistics already created. There are a few other questions also prompted in my mind. I decided to do a small demonstration of the subject and build following demonstration script. The goal of my experiment is to find out the relation between statistics and the index. Statistics is one of the important input parameter for the optimizer during query optimization process. If the query is nontrivial then only optimizer uses statistics to perform a cost based optimization to select a plan. For accuracy and further learning I suggest to read MSDN. Now let’s find out the relationship between index and statistics. We will do the experiment in two parts. i) Creating Index ii) Creating Statistics We will be using the following T-SQL script for our example. IF (OBJECT_ID('Table1') IS NOT NULL) DROP TABLE Table1 GO CREATE TABLE Table1 (Col1 INT NOT NULL, Col2 VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL) GO We will be using following two queries to check if there are any index or statistics on our sample table Table1. -- Details of Index SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) AS TableName, Name AS IndexName, type_desc FROM sys.indexes WHERE OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) = 'table1' GO -- Details of Statistics SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) TableName, Name AS StatisticsName FROM sys.stats WHERE OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) = 'table1' GO When I ran above two scripts on the table right after it was created it did not give us any result which was expected. Now let us begin our test. 1) Create an index on the table Create following index on the table. CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX Ix_Table1_1 ON Table1(Col1) GO Now let us use above two scripts and see their results. We can see that when we created index at the same time it created statistics also with the same name. Before continuing to next set of demo – drop the table using following script and re-create the table using a script provided at the beginning of the table. DROP TABLE table1 GO 2) Create a statistic on the table Create following statistics on the table. CREATE STATISTICS Ix_table1_1 ON Table1 (Col1) GO Now let us use above two scripts and see their results. We can see that when we created statistics Index is not created. The behavior of this experiment is different from the earlier experiment. Clean up the table setup using the following script: DROP TABLE table1 GO Above two experiments teach us very valuable lesson that when we create indexes, SQL Server generates the index and statistics (with the same name as the index name) together. Now due to the reason if we have already had statistics with the same name but not the index, it is quite possible that we will face the error to create the index even though there is no index with the same name. A Quick Check To validate that if we create statistics first and then index after that with the same name, it will throw an error let us run following script in SSMS.   Some details: Webserver: Apache/2.2.13 (FreeBSD) mod_ssl/2.2.13 OpenSSL/0.9.8e OS: FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE This is a FreeBSD Jail. I believe I use the Apache 'prefork' MPM (I run the default for FreeBSD). I use the default values for MaxClients (256) I have enabled mod_status, with "ExtendedStatus On". When I view /server-status , I see a handful of regular requests. If I have "MaxClients 256", and over 230 of these connections, it seems that my webserver is dangerously close to running out of available connections. It also seems like Apache should only need a handful of these "internal dummy connections" We actually had two unexplained outages last night, and I am wondering if these "internal dummy connection" caused us to run out of available connections.

• Server 2008 R2 Dns Lockup

  Hi, We've deployed our first 2008 R2 server on a client site which has replaced their existing 2003 DC. This server provides DNS resolution services to all client machines on that site for general internet usage. Since using the 2008 R2 DNS services we have noticed every couple of days the DNS server starts timing out when requests to certain sites are made (google is the only example I can provide at this time although it seems to be larger sites with problems rather than small - CDN compatiblity issue?). When you restart the DNS Server service then resolution returns to normal... just only for a day or so. Is anybody aware of any significant changes to the DNS server architecture or configuration out of the box in R2 that may explain this intermittent behaviour?   Here's what I am trying to do, unless I am crazy: I am trying to use Tomcat with the multiple workers, so far I got OpenBD working, but having trouble with Railo, and will be tackling Adobe after. each engine deployed as a war separated by different workers I wanted to keep both the sites and engines inside my sites directory I have to remap the symlink for the WEB-INF when I switch engines = have not found a way around this my thought is to have everything separated into modules and I want to be able to execute both cfm and php code in a single site.  Ideally, it would be amazing if there would be a way to not have to remap the symlink as well. thoughts? can this be done? • How to get html/css/jpg pages server by both apache & tomcat with mod_jk

  I've apache2 and tomcat6 both running on port 80 with mod_jk setup on ubutnu servers. I had to setup an error document 503 ErrorDocument 503 /maintenance.html in the apache configuration and somehow I managed to get it work and the error page is server by apache when tomcat is stopped. Developers created a good looking error page(an html page which calls css and jpg) and I'm asked to get this page served by apache when tomcat is down. When I tried with JkUnMount /*.css in the virtual hosting, the actual tomcat jsp pages didn't work properly(lost the format) as the tomcat applications uses jsp, css, js, jpg and so on. I'm trying if it is possible to get .css and .jpg served by both apache and tomcat so that when the tomcat is down I'll get css and jpg serverd by apache and the proper error document is served. Anyone has any technique? • Apache configuration to make NTLM authentication work through a Proxy

  I'm running an application server behind an Apache proxy with the following sort of thing in my Apache config: ProxyPass /app http://myapplication:8080/myapp ProxyPassReverse /app http://myapplication:8080/myapp When I switch on NTLM authentication (using mod_ntlm) the authentication fails (it works fine when bypassing the proxy). A quick search reveals lots of issues when running NTLM behind a proxy due to the connection-specific NTLM specification. Does anyone have a working Apache configuration that allows NTLM authentication through a proxy? Thanks for any help.

  so i have set up apache serving my php pages. i read about squid but don't understand why/how i should use it to speed up my web server. from what i've learned squid is located in same network (or another) and caches content requested by the web browsers, and then when another web browser wants a same page, squid returns that page cached locally, so it never sends a request to the apache server (faster response time for the client, and reduced load for the server). so it seems that squid is for the client side (web browser), and has nothing to do with the server side (apache). but then some people tell others how they have speeded up apache using squid. so im confused. could squid be used on the server side too? and how will it work?

I am wonderiung what are the benefits of the apache file upload module. There were no updates for some time, is it actively maintained? The solution I am looking for will be part of an existing website and be integrated into the admin web frontend. Things I am not considering are webdav, ssh, ftp, ftps, ftp over ssh. Should work with a browser and without installing special client software, so I am asking about a browser based upload without special client side requirements. I can request a modern browser like firefox = 3.5 or modern webkit broser like chrome or safari from the users.

  Hi. I currently have an Apache2 server running with mpm-prefork and mod_php on a OpenVZ VPS with 512M real / 1024M burstable RAM (no swap). After running some tests, I found that the maximum process size Apache gets is 23M, so I've set MaxClients to 25 (23M x 25 = 575 MB, ok for me). I decided to run some load tests on my server, and the results left me puzzled. I'm using ab on my desktop machine requesting the main page from a wordpress blog. When I run ab with 24 concurrent connections, everything seems fine. Sure, CPU goes up, free RAM goes down, and the result is about 2-3s response time per request. But if I run ab with 25 concurrent connections (my server limit), Apache just hangs after a couple of seconds. It starts processing the requests, then it stops responding, CPU goes back to 100% idle and ab times out. Apache log says it reached MaxClients. When this happens, Apache keeps itself locked up with 25 running processes (they're all in "W" if I check server status) and only after the TimeOut setting the processes start to die and the server starts responding again (in my case it's set to 45). My question: is that expected behaviour? Why Apache just dies when it reaches MaxClients? If it works with 24 connections, shouldn't it work with 25, just taking maybe more time to respond each request and queueing up the rest? It sounds kinda strange to me that any kid running ab can alone kill a webserver just by setting the concurrent connections to the servers MaxClients.

• Apache & SVN on Ubuntu - Post-commit hook fails silently, pre-commit hook “Permission Denied”

  I've been struggling for the past couple days to get post-commit email notifications working on my SVN server (running via HTTP with Apache2 on Ubuntu 9.10). SVN commits work fine, but for some reason the hooks are not being properly executed. Here are the configuration settings: - Users access the repo via HTTP with the apache dav_svn module (I created users/passwords via htpasswd in a dav_svn.passwd file). dav_svn.conf: <Location /svn/repos> DAV svn SVNPath /home/svn/repos AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion Repository" AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/dav_svn.passwd Require valid-user </Location> I created a post-commit hook file that writes a simple message to a file in the repository root: /home/svn/repos/hooks/post-commit: #!/bin/sh REPOS="$1" REV="$2" /bin/echo 'worked' > ${REPOS}/postcommit.log I set the entire repository to be owned by www-data (the apache user), and assigned 755 permissions to the post-commit script when I test the post-commit script using the www-data user in an empty environment, it works: sudo -u www-data env - /home/svn/repos/hooks/post-commit /home/svn/repos 7 But when I commit on a client machine, the commit is successful, but the post-commit script does not seem to be executed. I also tried running a simple script for the pre-commit hook, and I get an error, even with an empty pre-commit script: "Commit failed (details follow): Can't create null stdout for hook '/home/svn/repos/hooks/pre-commit': Permission denied" I did a few searches on Google for this error and I presume that this is an issue with the apache user (www-data) not having adequate permissions, specifically to execute /dev/null. I also read that the reason post-commit fails silently is because that it doesn't report with stdout. Anyway, I've also tried giving the apache user (www-data) ownership of the entire repository, and edited the apache virtualhost to allow operations on the server root, and I'm still getting permission denied /etc/apache2/sites-available/primarydomain.conf <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! • Apache HTTPD - Segmentation fault when loading mod_jk module

  I just set up mod_jk with my Apache httpd 2.0.52 installation, but now when I try to start Apache, it has a segmentation fault. I've checked that I am using the mod_jk compiled for 2.0.x.. built against the same version I have, in fact. I've also verified that the path I'm giving to LoadModule is correct, and the permissions and the ownership of the file are the same as the rest of the modules'. When I remove the "LoadModule" command for mod_jk from my httpd.conf, there is no segmentation fault. Nothing shows in Apache's error logs. I have tried restarting the server with this module using both service httpd restart and httpd. • Issues with Server 2012 using DFSR running on Hyper-V 2012

  We have a number of Server 2012 systems, all of which run virtualised on Hyper-V 2012 server. We are having problems with two such virtual instances, both of which are used as file servers, whereby they occasionally stop responding to requests to serve files to clients. After logging on to the server, attempts to shut it down gracefully fail (no error, it just fails to acknowledge a shutdown request). Recovery is a case of power cycling the server(s) from the Hyper-V console. These two servers don't server a large number of users (one serves no more than 6 users, and the other serves around 20 users), they are in the same domain, but on different physical hardware (and at different sites). They don't lock up at the same time. They both use DFSR to replicate a fairly large amount of data between themselves (200GB) over ADSL connections, this is working fine, and we have been using DFSR to do this on the previous two generations of server OS we have used (Server 2008 R2 and Server 2003 - both of which were physical installs however). Today, when one of the servers crashed, I noticed an entry in the event log, which looked similar to the following: Log Name: Application Source: ESENT Date: 27/11/2012 10:25:55 Event ID: 533 Task Category: General Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: HAL-FS-01.example.com Description: DFSRs (1500) \\.\E:\System Volume Information\DFSR\database_C8CC_101_CC00_EC0E\ dfsr.db: A request to write to the file "\\.\E:\System Volume Information\ DFSR\database_C8CC_101_CC00_EC0E\fsr.log" at offset 4423680 (0x0000000000438000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes has not completed for 36 second(s). This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem. When the server started up again, I went to find the event log entry to investigate further and found that the event log entry was no longer there (I assume it was in memory but failed to write to disk before the server was powered off, for the reason mentioned in the message). I found the above message by searching back further in the event log. Both of these virtual servers have their E: volumes fully allocated as opposed to dynamically expanding, and there are no other issues on any of the other virtual servers (which include server 2012, server 2008 R2 and Ubuntu 12.04 x64). There are no signs of IO, memory or CPU starvation on the host systems. I've used performance counters on the affected virtual servers to monitor memory usage (including non paged pool usage), as well as CPU and network utilisation, and none of these show any signs of trouble when the issue arises. I would have thought our configuration isn't that uncommon, so I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this, and managed to resolve the problem?

• Installing PHP 5.3 on a Windows host with both Apache and IIS

  I'm currently experimenting with a couple of configurations of Apache and IIS on the same server box - so far using Apache as a proxy for IIS is winning, but another of my setups has Apache on a non-standard port with IIS taking the majority of traffic. Both of these machines currently have PHP 5.2 installed. I want to upgrade to PHP 5.3, but the installer asks which server I'm running - I'm running both - so what do I tell it? Which configuration will be the most flexible, tell it we're running IIS, or tell it we're running Apache?
