  • Problems getting foreign keys working in MySQL

    - by thehuby
    I've been trying to get a delete to cascade and it just doesn't seem to work. I'm sure I am missing something obvious, can anyone help me find it? I would expect a delete on the 'articles' table to trigger a delete on the corresponding rows in the 'article_section_lt' table. CREATE TABLE articles ( id INTEGER UNSIGNED PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, url_stub VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL UNIQUE, h1 VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL UNIQUE, title VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL, description VARCHAR(150) NOT NULL, summary VARCHAR(150) NOT NULL DEFAULT "", html_content TEXT, date DATE NOT NULL, updated TIMESTAMP DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP )ENGINE=INNODB; CREATE TABLE article_sections ( /* blog, news etc */ id INTEGER UNSIGNED PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, url_stub VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL UNIQUE, h1 VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL, title VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL, description VARCHAR(150) NOT NULL, summary VARCHAR(150) NOT NULL DEFAULT "", html_content TEXT NOT NULL DEFAULT "" )ENGINE=INNODB; CREATE TABLE article_section_lt ( fk_article_id INTEGER UNSIGNED NOT NULL REFERENCES articles(id) ON DELETE CASCADE, fk_article_section_id INTEGER UNSIGNED NOT NULL )ENGINE=INNODB;

  • PHP tag cloud ( and finding similar ones )

    - by mfolnovich
Hello! I have articles on my site, and I would like to add tags which would describe each article, but I'm having problems with design mysql table for tags. I have two ideas: 1) each article would have field "tags", and tags would be in format: "tag1,tag2,tag3" 2) create other table called tags with fields: tag_name, article_id, so when I want tags for article with ID 1, I would run SELECT ... FROM tags WHERE news_id=1; But, I would also like to know 3 similar articles by comparing tags, so if I have article which has tags "php, mysql, erlang", and 5 articles with tags: "php, mysql", "erlang, ruby", "php erlang", "mysql, erlang, javascript", I would choose 1., 3. and 4., since those 3 have most same tags with main article. Thanks!

  • Tracking pageviews and displaying related data

    - by zeky
I want track which articles a user read on a website. Then with that data, be able to know: 1) - top N articles read in the last hour/day/week/month 2) - show recommendations ("users who read this, also read that") 3) - same as (1), but for a specific section on the site Since the site has high traffic ( 1M views/day) i can't use a RDBMS for this. I started to look at NoSQL (cassandra specifically) and since it's all new to me i'm not sure it's what i need or not. I'm possitive i'm not the first one who needs something like this but couldn't find links/articles giving me pointers on how to do something like this. Is NoSQL the best aproach? Any tips on the data model? Thanks.

  • Adding single row one by one in tableview from core data of iPhone

    - by user336685
I am working on RSS reader code where articles get downloaded and are viewable offline. The problem is only after all articles are downlaoded the tableview containing headlines gets updated. Core data is used. So everytime NSobjectcontext is saved , [self tableview updatebegins ] is called. The table is getting updated via fetchcontroller core data. I tried saving NSobjectcontext everytime an article is saved but that is not updating the tableview. I want a mechanism similar to instapaper tableview where articles get saved and tableview gets updated immediately. Please help if you know the solution. Thanks in advance.

  • Maintaining sort order of database table rows

    - by Lox
Say I have at database table containing information about a news article in each row. The table has an integer "sort" column to dictate the order in which the articles are to be presented on a web site. How do I best implement and maintain this sort order. The problem I want to avoid is having the the articles numbered 1,2,3,4,..,100 and when article number 50 suddenly becomes interesting it gets its sort number set to 1 and then all articles between them must have their sort number increased by one. Sure, setting initial sort numbers to 100,200,300,400 etc. leaves some space for moving around but at some point it will break. Is there a correct way to do this, maybe a completely different approach? Added-1: All article titles are shown in a list linking to the contents, so yes all sorted items are show at once. Added-2: An item is not necessarily moved to the top of the list; any item can be placed anywhere in the ordered list.

  • Network ActiveRecord relation with Rails

    - by Zag zag..
Hi, I have a has and belongs to many relation between User and Article models, and I would like to link them even if an article if not hosted on the same database then a user. For example, If an article exists at foo.com/articles/3 and a user exists at bar.com/users/1, If would like to be able to do from foo.com web interface or bar.com web interface this kind of query: a_user.articles (or an_article.users). I think this can be possible adding a field like "url" in users and articles tables. But I don't know how to process for ActiveRecord. My Article model looks like this: class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :users end Is there yet some example of project using this kind of relation over internet? Many thanks

  • Using FieldSelector when searching with Lucene

    - by Christian
I'm searching articles in PubMed via Lucene. Each of the 20,000,000 articles has an abstract with ~250 words and an ID. At the moment I store my searches, with each take multiple seconds, in a TopDocs object. Searchs can find thousands of articles. I'm just interested in the ID of the article. Does Lucene load the abstracts internally into the TopDocs? If so can I prevent that behavior through FieldSelectors or do FieldSelectors only work with IndexReader and don't work with IndexSearcher?

  • Rails show view of one model with form for adding one child - nested attributes vs seperate controll

    - by SWR
I have a basic two tiered model structure: Articles - Comments with one Article having many comments. What is the best way to add a "Add a comment" form to the bottom of the Articles show page? nested_attributes is overkill as I don't want to be able to edit all of the comments on the page, just to add one more. Is the best way even with Rails 2.3 still to make a separate controller and embed a form_for pointing to the other controller into the Articles show view? If so, how do I get validation errors to return to the article display page? I don't want to make a separate comment page/view... thanks

  • Dynamic Type to do away with Reflection

The dynamic type in C# 4.0 is a welcome addition to the language. One thing Ive been doing a lot with it is to remove explicit Reflection code thats often necessary when you dynamically need to walk and object hierarchy. In the past Ive had a number of ReflectionUtils that used string based expressions to walk an object hierarchy. With the introduction of dynamic much of the ReflectionUtils code can be removed for cleaner code that runs considerably faster to boot. The old Way - Reflection Heres...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?
