• Visio 2010 Reverse Engineer Oracle

  I have used Visio 2007 in the past to reverse engineer Oracle databases to get a flow scheme. I believe all Office 2007 products were x86 as well which is where I suspect my issue currently lies. I have since upgraded to Visio 2010 x64 and when I go to reverse engineer something from Oracle it shows up under Installed Visio Drivers but I can't seem to create a data source using it. My assumption here is it is because Oracle doesn't play nicely with x64 and with Visio being compiled as x64 I don't even get the option to use it. Has anyone done this with Visio 2010 x64 and Oracle yet? Or are there other tools you would recommend to reverse engineer and get a model such as the one generated by Visio?

• Firewalling gateways and IDS's

  Hi, For IDS, I plan to have a Win 2008 server running on the gateway with the majority of roles disabled. I plan to firewall the Internet connection, but I'd also like to install Snort to work as an IDS. However, I am guessing that regardless of the Snort install of the promiscuous Winpcap driver, I won't be able to monitor ports that the firewall blocks. My thinking is that chain of flow is: Internet-Firewall on Win 2008-Winpcap-Snort-internal network Is there a way to still monitor services that the firewall will block (i.e. TCP 445 SMB) ? Perhaps run the data through Snort and then through the firewall ? Thanks

  Hello I just read this article which I find concerning: "After 90 minutes of troubleshooting, Nash traced the problem to TeamViewer, which he used to remotely administer the client's servers. It turns out the program had opened up its own webserver on the client's machine as soon as Apache went down and in the process made it impossible for the client, a large provider of business software, to restart its proper website." http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07/24/teamviewer_snafu/ I started using TeamViewer recently because it's just much better than UltraVNC (runs on both XP and Vista, the server dials out instead of requiring the user to open a port on their router + better performance than UVNC)... but I thought that TeamViewer had both the server and client connect out to TV's web server for data to flow between the two hosts. Why does TV even need to open a web server on the server host? Thank you.

• How to get Word 2003 to make my print layout go from left to right?

  My copy of MS Word 2003 was installed on my computer with the locale set to Israel, so among other things my Normal.dot template was set up for right-to-left. I managed to fix most of the Hebrew support things so that I am working in English by default now. The only thing I haven't found a cure for is how to make the "print layout" view also go from left to right; as things are, the page flow always appears from right to left, even in English documents - IOW, page 1 appears on the right of page 2, as shown below. I can't see any obvious option to change this. How do I do it?

• How do I connect to the serial console port os a Sunfire 280R?

  We have a Sunfire 280R (old SPARC/Solaris server) that is refusing to come up after being relocated. We're trying to connect to the serial console port, but all we get is random gibberish on the screen. We've tried both connecting with a DB25DB9 adapter and using a DB-25-RJ45 adapter with a cisco RJ45-DB9 adapter to a windows laptop. We're configuring the laptop to 9600 baud, 8 bit, 1 stop bit, no parity. We've tried both no flow control and Xon/Xoff. We get the same results hooking up to the serial port on a working SPARC server, so it's probably something in our setup rather than a fault with the server. How do we get access to to serial console so we can work out what is stopping this box from getting to the network? Is there a special sun adapter we need to get/make to get the serial link working?

I have exchange server 2010 configured and working without any errors the problem is in cisco router configuration when exchange server sends emails out the receives WAN IP not the public ip. I have configured RDNS lookups with our MX record IP addesses that match the FQDN but all our emails are rejected because it does not match with the public ip. Receiving mails problem is not an problem all mails are coming through. i am sure i am missing something on the router configuration that does not sends the public ip, can any one help me to solve this issue. • Suppress EXT3-fs warning on mount

  I am familiar with output suppress on Unix machines, ie: cat /file/that/doesnt/exist > /dev/null 2>& However I can't seem to suppress the output of mount when an ext3 filesystem is mounted for the nth time, and it recommends an fsck. As it happens, fscks are run regularly by another machine, so these warning messages are needlessly interrupting the flow of output to my pretty bash script. These are the errors: # mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt > /dev/null 2>& kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds EXT3-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is recommended EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on sd(8,1), internal journal EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm clearly blocking both fd's, but somehow output is still getting through. This is GNU Bash v2.05a

• What software supports full multisession CD burning on windows?

  I know, that beating Nero in this field is very difficult. I have looked through best software listed in wiki, also checked the related posts here and here: most of the software either allows you to create ISO image and/or burn the existing image. However I am interested in the following flow: Import previous session Add/rename/remove files and directories Burn new session UltraISO is very good in (1) and (2). But it cannot append a disk with new session. InfraRecorder/CDBurnerXP can do (1) (2) (3) but: InfraRecorder crashes when trying to import some Nero sessions CDBurnerXP does not allow to move files in previous session to another directories. Is anybody here happy with any other free software?

• Slow download speeds on MacBook Pro

  Just as the title says, I am getting very low download speeds on my MacBook Pro. I did a speed test at speedtest.net, and am getting 7 MbPS down, .5 up. However, I can only seem to get 270 KB PS max (averaging 100 K), whether on my school's network or on my home network, wired or wireless. I am on Mac OS X 10.5.8, with Google Chrome. My ethernet settings (under System Preferences - Network - Ethernet Connection - Advanced - Ethernet) are set to "Configure Automatically", "Speed: 100TX", "Duplex: full-duplex, flow-control", and "MTU: Standard (1500)". As far as I can tell, there are no throttles or anything between here and the ISP, so... Any ideas on why I'm getting such low download speeds?

• LAN speeds and firewall/switch connections

  I have a small network with about ten users. All workstations flow into a Dell PowerConnect 3424 which then has a single link to a SonicWALL firewall and from there to a cable modem. More important than internet connectivity is speed between machines (specifically a Windows Server box on the LAN which everyone uses simultaneously). I believe the 3424 has gigabit connections, but they look like they're for stacking. Is there a way to test the speeds on the LAN to see where the speeds are at? Is there any low-hanging fruit insofar as increasing speeds?

• Measuring cumulative network statistics per user or per process

  I've been googling for hours -- Under Linux I want to know the cumulative bytes sent and received by user or by process over all ip protocols. The best I've found in my searches is that it's possible to use iptables to mark packets for a user, for example: iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m owner --uid-owner test -j MARK --set-mark 1 It appears that "tc" can then shape traffic with that but I just want the statistic -- I don't want to shape the traffic. I want something like: "user U has transmitted used XMB since time Y". I can't figure out how to get statistics from these marked packets. Also, I've looked at nethogs but they seem to be measuring the instantaneous flow and I need cumulative counts. Anyone have ideas?

  We have a number of firewalls in place around our organisation and in some cases packets can pass through four levels of firewall limiting the flow TCP traffic. A concept that I'm used to from software testing is regression testing, allowing you to run a test suite against a changed application to verify that the new changes haven't affected any old features. Does anyone have any experience or an offer any solutions to being able to perform the same type of thing with firewall changes and network testing? The problem becomes a lot more complicated because you'd ideally want to be originating (and testing receipt) of packets across many machines.

I've set my email client to use plain-text but every time I send a post, Blogger hard wraps it instead of letting the text just flow. I've tried this with different mail clients and gotten the same results. I'm 100% sure that I'm sending plain text each time. Does anyone know how to get Blogger to quit doing this? Sigh. • Good set of web hosting permissions?

  Hey guys, I just got a linode and I'm in the process of configuring it. It's running nginx with php-fpm and passenger. nginx was compiled and is running as user nginx. php-fpm (php with fastcgi process manager) is running as www-data (in group www-data). My sites are currently in /var/www, so for example /var/www/test.com I'm just wondering what the general 'flow' of things is. So for example, /var/www is owned by root, should I chown of /var/www/test.com to nginx or www-data? Or should I put nginx in the www-data group? How should site uploading work, I just transfer files to the /var/www/test.com directory as root (sudo) and then chown -R www-data:www-data .? Thanks. I'm capable of figuring things out on my own, I'm just wondering what the typical/general way of handling users/groups/permissions/site-files is on linux with a webserver.

• Why do I have only incoming traffic when copying from network source to network destination?

  I have a VirtualBox VM that is located on a network share of my NAS. When I copy something from the VM's disk onto another of the NAS' network shares (so the data is visible outside the VM), the Windows 7 Task Manager shows only incoming network traffic (yellow graph). It's as if the data was only received but never sent over the network. I verified that the data arrives on the other network share. As I understand it, the data flow looks like this: +-NAS--------+ +-Win7 PC (VM Host)-+ | Share1(VM)-|>---->|-+ | | | | | | | Share2 <---|<----<|-+ | +------------+ +-------------------+ If it was like this, I would see incoming and outgoing traffic, right? • What is causing a vm to exhibit packet loss?

  We have a pretty nice piece of hardware set up to run multiple virtual machines in vmware and one of the vm's is an instance of Windows Server 2003 running SQL Server 2005. For some reason we occasionally see 10-20 seconds of straight packet loss to this machine from remote machines (my workstation) as well as other vm's on the same physical hardware. I am using PingPlotter to keep a close eye on the packet loss. So far we've turned off flow control on the NIC but we are already running out of other things to try. What might be causing this and how can I identify the problem? Note: We also have another server with a very similar configuration with the same type of problem to a lesser extent (because its not used as heavily?)

• How can one-handed work in Emacs be eased?

  My right hand is temporarily immobilized and I would like to do some minor work in Emacs, mostly in Org-mode, but also in AUCTeX. Are there ways to ease one-handed work in Emacs, such as some mode or particular work flow? For instance I noticed that for undoing it is easier to press C-x u than C-_ and that it is easier to mark text with methods involving C-Space than with combinations of S- and movement commands. I have found http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2391805/how-can-i-remain-productive-with-one-hand-completely-immobilized but that is not exactly what I am asking for. I want to ease whatever little time spent one-handed in Emacs (not in general) and this is also interesting for situations where there is no injury involved, such as when one hand is occupied. I do realize that I should avoid unnecessary strain. I am using GNU Emacs 23.3.1 in Ubuntu 11.04.

  I need a service that will allow me to draw a chart line by hand and generate data points for what I drew. This might sound crazy, but I need some data (preferably in CSV output) that will only approximately show value X at time Y and I do not want to go and produce these values by hand. Can I created mycustomer.com DNS zone (STUB) just for the sake of listing few database servers and application servers and then for the other DNS records eg. MX, NS and the other refer to the REAL MX record entry so that my Exchange Server email flow is unaffected to mycustomer.com ? because if I just create A record in my current domain for some of the servers, the FQDN is not exactly what I want.   I'm looking for something (prereably FOSS software) which can take an animation with N images as input, and which will output an animation with M frames, where M is in the range 2N to 5N or so. I believe the general technique is called "temporal upsampling" or possibly "inbetweening" (or "'tweening" for short). Note that it does need to make some effort to do motion tracking of things in the scene ("optical flow"); just fading ("dissolve") between keyframes isn't going to cut it. Googling "temporal upsampling" turns up any number of papers on the subject, but I've yet to discover any code/software (a gstreamer plugin would be perfect) I can just use to try the technique out. Any suggestions ? Additional information: "Motion interpolation" seems to be the more widely used name in the TV world for what I'm looking for. See this and the video here too. Interestingly, some cinephiles seem to hate what these technologies do to 24FPS film: e.g a comment "makes Gone With The Wind look like a soap opera shot on video".

• Help accessing Beagle over serial with Minicom/GTKTerm

  I am trying to access a brand new Beagle Board from Ubuntu or Mac over serial using the setup seen here: http://specialcomp.com/beagleboard/RevC1.htm I got Minicom and GTKTerm installed on the Ubuntu box. I set up the correct baud rate, turned off flow control, and have tried ttyUSB0 and ttyS0. Once minicom is configured properly, I should just see the init text from the board appear if I have minicom open in terminal while I plug in the board, correct? dmesg shows ttyUSB0 on the computer has been connected to ttyS0 on the beagle.

• Malzilla Tutorial #4 - how to get it working

  I am trying to understand the basic work flow of using Malzilla , and therefore doing the tutorials. But already in the first one, where you actually get to do something I am lost as it doesn't work for me at all, even though I follow it step by step. In the first paragraph where you have to concatenate the string and then translate it using the MiscDecoders->DecodeUCS2, I am getting not printable chars as a solution, after concatenating and using the decoder. In the second paragraph where you are told to run the script after adding the function-call at the bottom of the script, the Decoder tells me that he cannot handle the arguments.callee.toString() method and therefor wont run the script. How outdated are those tutorials and how can I get them to work?

Let me know if any of you know of a program that will do what I want. Also it must be web-based anom user - fills out form - email gets sent to admin saying xyz has filled out form abc with links to approve/disapprove request. admin can also login and edit form and resent results to original submitter. Also once the admin approves/disapproves request the original submitter gets an approve/disapprove email. and you can search by date submitted, specific project/form, status of request(submitted, approved, disapproved). any ideas all on where I could find this? I started to look into drupal with workflows and actions but it just doesn't flow right for this
