  • Converting PDF to PCL5 on Windows?

    In my application, I need to convert PDF docs to PCL5 generic files to send to FTP PCL capable printers. Printing to file would be a last resort, I would prefer a small-footprint command line tool or API that will do the job. I've seen some mention of doing this on Linux using Ghostscript, but I've got no idea how to replicate this on windows. Many thanks

  • Controlling the print options of a pdf

    I am producing a number of PDFs using either SSRS or using an HTML to PDF component. What I want to do for each document is to set the first page to print to tray 1 and subsequent pages. Is there anyway to do this? System.Drawing.Printing and System.Printing seem like good candidates but they don't seem to be useful for PDFs (i may be wrong). The Adobe sdk doesn't at first glance seem to have that level of granularity either.

    I'm looking for a good way to convert Office (mostly Microsoft) documents to PDF in Java. I've been looking at using the OpenOffice SDK but from the samples I've looked at it looks like this requires having OpenOffice running in server mode to do the work. Does anyone know of a good way to do this? Good meaning the less external requirements, the better. A 100% Java API would be best, but I don't expect that actually exists.

Safari uses a PDF plugin of its own something exclusive to Safari and not present in other webkit based browsers like Chrome.     I'm using GhostScript to merge to PDFs into one PDF. One of the PDFs has textbox fields (editable fields) that I created in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. When I merge these two PDFs with GhostScript I lose the textbox fields. Is there any way to merge these files (using GS or some other free linux software) that keeps the textbox fields intact?

I have been able to remove the link using javascript under Batch Processing in Adobe Pro, but the link text remains.     I would like to know if it's a good practice or legal to use non-standard tags in an HTML page for certain custom purposes. For example: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam consequat, felis sit amet suscipit laoreet, nisi arcu accumsan arcu, vel pulvinar odio magna suscipit mi. I want to highlight "consectetur adipiscing elit" as important and "nisi arcu accumsan arcu" as highlighted. So in the HTML I would put: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, <important>consectetur adipiscing elit</important>. Nullam consequat, felis sit amet suscipit laoreet, <highlighted>nisi arcu accumsan arcu</highlighted>, vel pulvinar odio magna suscipit mi. and in the CSS: important { background: red color: white; } highlighted { background: yellow; color: black; } However, since these are not valid HTML tags, is this ok?

  • Best practice for storing HTML coming from text fields to a database?

    I have an application that allows users to edit certain parts of text and then email that out. My question is what is the best way to store this in a Microsoft SQL Server database. Right now I have two tables, one holding the HTML data and one holding the plain text data. When the user saves the info, it replaces newlines with br's and puts it in the HTML-conntaining table and then puts the regular text in the other table. This way the text box has the newlines when they go to edit, but the table that contains the HTML data, has the BR's. This seems like a silly way to do things. What would be the best practice?     I'd like to make a graphical user interface for my script, instead of running it from the console. I'm aware there's a wealth of UI libraries for Ruby, but I'm quite familiar with HTML and CSS and I'd like to use them for building an interface. So the question is: Is it possible to use a HTML rendering library to make such an UI? From what I understand, it's relatively easy to put in a HTML rendered view of something, but is it possible to communicate back with the script? Like when I push that big red button, it actually tells the script to act on it? Obviously it's possible if the script run on the server side, but I'd like to run it as a desktop application.

  • AJAX get data from large HTML page as the large HTML page loads

    Not entirely sure whether this has a name but basically I have a large HTML page that is generated from results in a db. So viewing the HTML page (which is a report) in a browser directly does not display all contents immediately but displays what it has and additional HTML is added as the results from the DB are retrieved... Is there a way I can make an AJAX request to this HTML page and as opposed to waiting until the whole page (report) is ready, I can start processing the response as the HTML report is loaded? Or is there another way of doing it? Atm I make my AJAX response it just sits there for a minute or two until the HTML page is complete... If context is of any use: The HTML report is generated by a Java servlet and the page making the AJAX call is a JSP page. Unfortunately I can't very easily break the report up because it is generated by BIRT (Eclipse reporting extension). Thanks in advance.
