• Excel data range - to sum series within date range

  I have a set of data that I would like to manipulate but my problem is not straight forward. In this data I have date ranges that include multiple entries of the same date on some days and not on others. What I need to accomplish is to manage a trading account so that no more than 1% of the account is put at risk on any given day (retrospectively). To do this, when a series of trades falls on the same day, I need to total the risk associated with each of those trades so that I can limit the total risk of the combined trades by limiting the position size I take in each. Here is a sample set of the data I am working with. As you can see, there are 5 trades on Jan 3. Each of these trades comes with a risk value. I need to add the risk values of these 5 trades so that I can compare it to an account value and then determine if I should take more than 1 position in each trade. As you can see there are different numbers of trades that occur on the 4th, 5th 6th and 9th. I need the values returned in each row so that I can further manipulate them in the spreadsheet. I am not new to Excel, but cannot come up with a solution here - your input is much appreciated. • Where to download MS SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition?

  Just got put in charge of a big web project. All I know is the web server is running MS SQL 2005, so I need something comparable to test locally. I figure developer edition is my best bet because it offers everything that the enterprise edition does, but is for development purposes only. But this page is pretty worthless http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/developer.aspx Where do I actually download it? What about SQL 2005 Express? Would that meet my needs? I can't figure out all the differences between these stupid MS products.

• Word: MAC 2011, TOC on too many pages

  I have a Word: MAC 2011 document where the bottom of the first 40 pages or so say "TOC: Page x". This notation appears to be in the Footer, as it is gray until I click on it (then the rest of the text goes gray instead). There is no TOC that I can see in the document, so I'm presuming someone tried to create one and messed things up. After the first 40 pages or so, all the other bottom of the page notations appear to be correct. (i.e. Chapter One, Chapter Two, etc.) How can I get those first 40 pages to be part of Chapter One rather than TOC?

• Network Sharing Issues

  I have two computers I want to have on a network share together (so the laptop can print through the desktop's printer). These are both connected to the same router. (One wired and one wireless) And they both have the same workgroup name. However, when I type "net view" in the command prompt, the only computer that shows up is the computer I type the command into. How do I get these computers to be shared with each other? Update: The tower is running Windows XP, the Laptop is running Windows 7. I have disabled the Firewall on both until I get this set up. Update 2: Typing the command net view on my desktop is acting very strangely. Noe sometimes it only shows itself on the list of computers, sometimes it shows itself and the laptop and sometimes it doesn't work at all and displays system error 6118. I typed net view into the command prompt on the Windows 7 laptop and both computers showed up, so I went to connect to the desktop from the laptop and it said the dekptop could not be found, even though it is showing up int he list of shared computers. • Installing Windows 7 from a USB Hard Drive.

  I have a Western Digital Passport External Hard Drive (320GB) that I want to partition to keep the data on, but use some of the free space to install Windows 7 onto my desktop computer. Microsoft has given me the Windows 7 Enterprise Edition ISO to download. I would like to take the External HD and partition it so I can fit the ISO image onto it. How would I go about doing this? Trying to use GParted to partition the external hard drive has caused a chicken or the egg problem. GParted can't see the drive unless it's mounted, and when it is mounted it will not allow me to do anything to the partition. When it's not mounted, GParted can't see the drive at all and as such can't do anything to the drive. Once the drive is correctly partition, how do I go about moving the ISO image Microsoft gave me to my USB External Hard Drive? Are there any special steps that I need to take? I am using Ubuntu 11.04 & GParted 0.7.0, on my Chromebook to do this. Any support would be appreciated.

• Can't find windows 2000 domain after PDC Change

  This is a windows 2000 domain issue. I had an old win2000 PDC that was beginning to fail. So, trying to be pre-emptive, I installed a new BDC, then "demoted" the old PDC and took it off the network. Now it appears that no member server can "find" the domain anymore. No logins work (for services or a RDP or anything). What I've tried (based on googling): Verified sysvol is shared on all servers. Used nslookup to verify that DC's are being found. netdiag /fix meta data cleanup routines. verified no firewall issues (port 389 etc) seizing all roles to new PDC (I did that as part of the original promotion). LMHOST file and Netbios settings. At the moment it seems like I can get the DC's returned but cannot contact them. I'm at a loss. My latest attempt was to remove a member server from the domain and try to "re-add" it. When I do that I get this message: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cfwebtools.com The following domain controllers were identified by the query: db-dev1.cfwebtools.com file-prod1.cfwebtools.com cfwt-pdc2.cfwebtools.com However no domain controllers could be contacted. It then goes on to ask if I've checked my A record and made sure they are running. Is there a way to force this domain to be seen? I also shared sysvol (or double checked it) and restarted the dfsr service. More information. I got looking at sysvol and found it was not shared on 2 of these servers. Only one of them (db-dev1) has a "good" or at least "populated" sys vol store. So I tried doing a "d2" recovery of my PDC against that good sysvol. But it never synchs - or at least it does not seem to synch. I'm guessing if I could get sysvol and netlogin to kick in and replicate that would fix my issue. I think these DC's aren't responding because they are waiting for replication which is broken somehow. Would taking down all the DC's except for db-dev1 fix the issue - at least temporarily? I know I can't just copy the sysvol stuff over to the other 2 can I?

• rsync remote to local automatic backup

  Because all my work is stored on a remote server I would like to auto backup my server monthly and weekly. My server is running Centos 5.5 and while searching the web I'm found a tool named rsync. I got my first update manually by using this command in terminal: sudo rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP I then prompt my password for that user and bob's my uncle. This backups the necessary files from my remote server to my local device but does somebody know how I can automate this? Like automatic running this script every sunday? EDIT I forgot to mention that I let direct admin backup the files I need and then copy those files from the remote server to a local server.

• Outlook 2007 Script that sends new form email when a message is dragged and dropped into a folder

  Is it possible to write a script that will allow Outlook to automatically send out a new email to a distribution list when you drag and drop and previously opened email into a specified folder? The rules only let you apply them to received and sent messages. They do not allow you to apply it to anything that is dragged and dropped after being opened. It baffles me that Novell Groupwise had this functionality but Outlook 2007 does not. If someone can assist me in writing a script/macro to provided this functionality, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

• In Windows Vista, when starting any and every program, a "bad image" error is generated

  I have a problem where any program is started under Windows Vista, the following error message is generated Bad Image C;\PROGRA~1\Google\GOOGLE~3\GOEC62~1.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. This happens for every program started, including those that start automatically at boot time. My Google-fu is failing to solve this for me. I have already tried an "sfc /scannow" which did find some problems, but it said that it could not correct them. What might cause this problem? How might it be resolved?

• Merely installing PHP5 causes my AWS Ubuntu server to die minutes later from a massive CPU spike

  I have an AWS server with Ubuntu 11.04 as the OS that is running an Apache2 webserver (incidentally Python-based and using Django). We recently needed to add support for php5 to let us use a third party PHP library (incidentally for serving minified versions of js and css files). However, for no reason any of us can discern, if we simply run sudo apt-get install php5 on the server, then the install appears to finish successfully but, without us taking any further action (including not yet running sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5, which I think would be the next step for us if everything worked), or actually running any PHP scripts on the server, a few minutes later the server becomes impossible to connect to, and looking at the 'Monitoring' tab for the server in the EC2 Management Console reveals that a while after the installation, CPU usage spikes to 100% and stays there permanently (until we reboot the server from the AWS Console). After rebooting, the server also reliably dies within a few (between 0 and 10) minutes. We restored the server to a pre-PHP state from an AMI Image, observed that it was stable, and then tried installing PHP5 again and observed the server die in exactly the same way, so we're pretty much certain that installing PHP5 is what causes the symptoms. What on earth could be causing this behaviour, and how can we get PHP installed on the server without it dying?

• Performance decrease in every game and application

  When I start a game, initially it runs smoothly, but after a couple of minutes, the performance gradually decreases to the point of being unplayable (1-2 FPS). The sound also starts to lag at this point. This does not happen every time I start my PC, usually exiting the game, rebooting, then starting the game again solves the problem, and I can play with perfect FPS for as long as I want. I could not find any deterministic reason when this happens and when doesn't. It happens in every game I tried (SWTOR, Diablo 3, Skyrim), and not even games, but simple applications like a browser or the Control Panel can get unusably slow. This is a brand new PC I bought three months ago, and this problem occurs since the first day I've been using it. Could you provide any advice how to further diagnose the problem? I tried to reinstall Windows, and tried different video card drivers, but it did not help. It would be important to know whether this is a hardware or software problem, because I can use the warranty if it is a hardware issue. (I did not want to return the PC yet, because I can't reproduce the issue deterministically.) • Is it possible to push DNS search suffices from DNS server to client?

  Our (active directory, windows-server-based) intranet used to be called "intranet", and DNS worked fine for windows machines and iPads/Android devices. We have changed it to be "apps.intranet", and it still works for windows machines, but no longer for iPads/Android devices. I think this is because out windows clients are configured to append .company.com when searching DNS, to make it a fully qualified lookup (this search suffix list is pushed to the PCs via AD group policies). I must admit, though, I don't know why it worked with just "intranet"! Does anyone know if it's possible to get DNS to "tell" the iPads/Android devices to append .company.com ... or how we can make it work some other way (but still using the multi-label, non-qualified DNS names) ? • Check keyword popularity of 2000 phrases?

  I just found a list of about 2000 car manufacturers which I want to put into a drop-down list... but 2000 is probably a bit too many, so I want to filter it down to maybe the top 100 most popular cars. I figure I can just use Google search popularity to give me a rough estimate of how popular the car is... but I can't find a tool that will let me query 2000 keywords. Anyone know of one?

• How do you configure IIS 7 to use a subdirectory as the default document?

  So I have a website running on a discount asp.net account, and I put an asp.net mvc app in a subdirectory. If my url is 'www.website.com' and my app is in directory 'sample', then 'www.website.com/sample' will execute the mvc app. My problem is that I want the app to be shown when you go to 'www.website.com' not just 'www.website.com/sample'. I have access to the IIS Manager, and I'm sure there are many ways to do this. What's the best way to do this?

• How do I know if my disks are being hit with too many I/O reads or writes or both?

  I know a bit about disk I/O and bottlenecks relating to this especially when relating to databases. How do I really know what the max I/O numbers will be for my disks? What metric might be available to me for working out roughly (but needs to be a good approximation) of how much capacity (if you will) have I got left available in I/O. I've seen it before where things are bubbling along nicely and then all of a sudden, everything screams to a halt, and it ends up being an I/O bound problem. Is there a better way to predict when I/O is reaching its limits? This article was interesting but not giving the answer I desire. So, is my best bet surrounding just looking at 'CPU I/O WAIT'? There must be a more reactive method than this.

• ESXi standalone host cannot power on any virtual machines

  I have a standalone VMWare ESXi host on ESXi 5.1. It currently has a handful of VMs powered on, and they are running fine. If I try to power on any other VM - any VM at all - I am receiving the following message: Power On virtual machine:A general system error occurred: The virtual machine could not start I have been through everything on KB2001005 and KB1006232 and their steps are either not applicable, or don't change anything. Nothing is generated in the virtual machine's log file. Where can I troubleshoot from here?

• Can not copy files from Windows 2003 server over network

  It seemed quite strange. I have a share folder with full read/write permission on my Windows 2003 server. With a XP client, I can create a new folder on the share folder, and I can copy files to it normally, but I can not copy these files back to my client PC. I tried use ftp,and webdav to get the files from server. None of them worked. Is the issue related with NETWORK SERVICE? Thanks for your help.

This sound is applied to every application and played whenever the application outputs a beep (for instance, when typing a keyboard shortcut that doesn't work, or during a terminal beep). • Excel 2007: "Format as Table" Increments Column Names

  I love using the formatting styles for tables in Excel 2007, but in my data I'm using the same column name for multiple columns. When I format my table using the pre-defined styles, it automatically adds an incremental number to each subsequent column name which I don't want. Is there any way to stop this from happening? If I attempt to manually rename the column back to the original name, it automatically appends the incremented number.

• How can I automatically lower Spotify playback volume when my Video Editing program makes a sound?

  I'd like to listen to Spotify while I am video editing. This is just casual listening - nothing to do with the editing work. How can I automatically fade out the volume of Spotify when my video editing program plays audio? I often need to hear the video editing audio without the distraction of Spotify playing over the top, but the video editing playback is too on/off/on/off to switch Spotify audio manually each time. Without background music, I get really sick of the repeated playback of the audio clips with only silence inbetween. I suppose what I needd is an app that monitors sound output from 'App A' and reduces the sound output from all others (Apps B, C, D, etc) when something is played.

• After a period of time, nslookup still works, but pinging, and an auto-refeshed website, fails.

  Contrary to this SO question this is for a dotted name (gw.localnet.au), and it doesn't happen straight away. Only after some period of time (quite a long time, possibly days). In fact this is for my ADSL router and its internal IP address which I have named within the router itself and in my Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller DNS Service. Specifically, localnet.au is a Active-Directory-backed primary domain. In fact, an ipconfig /flushdns may fix the problem, but only after a while (about the time it took me to type in this question :-) ). That doesn't explain the root cause though... • Cannot create persistent "open with" association for Photoshop CS4

  I'm trying to fix a computer from a friend, which has for some unknonwn reason installed the 64bit and 32bit version of CS4. The 64bit version does not work, the 32bit does. However it seems that the 64bit version was the first installed one, associations to the .psd files are going to the 64bit version. There seems no way to create an association with only the 32bit version. When I select open with` and I browse to the 32bit version and select open, it does not get added to the list of applications? Update: Unfortunately the problem just went away. It's annoying as the root cause is likely never to be found, I'm accepting Fopedush's answer for this "detailness".
