  • Setting up a view to draw to in Objective-C (iPhone) ?

    - by Johannes Jensen
    Okay, so, I'm all new to iPhone and stuff, but I'm not even at programming, I have many years of experience with ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0, I want to set up a view, that I can also pass variables to. The view is gonna draw everything with Quartz. I tried to make another game where I tried to add a pointer to a NSMutableArray to the view class, but it didn't work cause I didn't know how to store an actual class. I wanted to do like: [myView setNeedsDisplay]; but I had to do [(View*)self.view setNeedsDisplay]; didn't really work out in the end... Okay, so now I got: - (void) viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; viewClass = [[View class] retain]; gameView = [[[viewClass alloc] initWithFrame: CGRectZero] retain]; [gameView setNeedsDisplay]; } This is in my drawInContext:context, which is fired by drawRect: Also, my drawRect does [self drawInContext: UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [[UIColor blackColor] CGColor]); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 3.0); CGContextSetLineCap(context, kCGLineCapRound); CGContextSetLineJoin(context, kCGLineJoinRound); CGMutablePathRef aPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(aPath, nil, 5, 5); CGPathAddLineToPoint(aPath, nil, 45, 43); CGContextAddPath(context, aPath); CGContextStrokePath(context); Nothing happens. Help? Oh yeah, I get this error: : invalid context for each time I use those functions. :[ Thanks!

  • What's the best/easiest way to compare two times in Objective-C?

    - by Andy
    I've got a string representation of a time, like "11:13 AM." This was produced using an NSDateFormatter and the stringFromDate: method. I'd like to compare this time to the current time, but when I use the dateFromString: method to turn the string back into a date, a year, month and day are added - which I don't want. I just need to know if right now is < or the time stored in the string. What's going to be the best way to handle that? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Are there any Objective-C / Cocoa naming conventions for properties that are acronyms?

    - by t6d
    I have an object that models an online resource. Therefore, my object has to store the URL of the resource it belongs to. How would I name the getter and setter? MyObject *myObject = [[MyObject alloc] init]; // Set values [myObject setURL:url]; myObject.URL = url; // Get values [myObject URL]; myObject.URL; or would the following be better: MyObject *myObject = [[MyObject alloc] init]; // Set values [myObject setUrl:url]; myObject.url = url; // Get values [myObject url]; myObject.url; The former example would of course require to define the property in the following way: @property (retain, getter = URL, setter = setURL:) NSURL *url;

  • How to simplify my code... 2D array in Objective C...?

    - by Tattat
    self.myArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [self d], [self generateMySecretObject],nil], [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [self generateMySecretObject], [self generateMySecretObject],nil],nil]; for (int k=0; k<[self.myArray count]; k++) { for(int s = 0; s<[[self.myArray objectAtIndex:k] count]; s++){ [[[self.myArray objectAtIndex:k] objectAtIndex:s] setAttribute:[self generateSecertAttribute]]; } } As you can see this is a simple 2*2 array, but it takes me lots of code to assign the NSArray in very first place, because I found that the NSArray can't assign the size at very beginning. Also, I want to set attribute one by one. I can't think of if my array change to 10*10. How long it could be. So, I hope you guys can give me some suggestions on shorten the code, and more readable. thz

  • how to scroll table on the click event of some cell in objective c?

    - by Sarah
    Hello friends, I am right now working with one application where i need to take one uitableview with uilable and textfield in each cell.I am able to scroll the table manually once the user starts writing, but what i want is that when i click on the textfield,the table should scroll upward so that the user is able to see what he has entered in the textfield.Same thing i saw once i logged in the iphone facebook. this is the code for manually scrolling the table : - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForFooterInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 250; } -(UIView *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForFooterInSection:(NSInteger)section { CGRect viewRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 160); UIView *footerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:viewRect]; return footerView; } Is there any way around? Thanks in advance.

  • Why in Objective-C, we use self = [super init] instead of just [super init]?

    - by ????
    In a book, I saw that if a subclass is overriding a superclass's method, we may have self = [super init]; First, is this supposed to be done in the subclass's init method? Second, I wonder why the call is not just [super init]; ? I mean, at the time of calling init, the memory is allocated by alloc already (I think by [Foobar alloc] where Foobar is the subclass's name. So can't we just call [super init] to initialize the member variables? Why do we have to get the return value of init and assign to self? I mean, before calling [super init], self should be pointing to a valid memory allocation chuck... so why assigning something to self again? (if assigning, won't [super init] just return self's existing value?)

  • Sending a message from Objective-C and getting the return value?

    - by Nick Brooks
    I have this code NSString *tr = [self sendUrl:@"http://google.com/"]; But for some reason 'tr' will remain nil after it is executed. What am I doing wrong? sendUrl : - (NSString *)sendUrl:(NSString *) uri { NSLog(@"Requesting URI 1 ..."); // Prepare URL request to download statuses from Twitter NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:uri]]; NSLog(@"Requesting URI 2 ..."); // Perform request and get JSON back as a NSData object NSData *response = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:nil]; NSLog(@"Requesting URI 3 ..."); // Get JSON as a NSString from NSData response NSString *json_string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:response encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSLog(@"Requesting URI 4 ..."); return json_string; }

  • Is there any PDF parser written in objective-c or c?

    - by user549683
    I'm writing a pdf reader iPhone application. I know how to show pdf file in view using CGPDF** classes in iOS. What I want to do now is to search text in pdf file, and highlight the searched text. So, I need a library which can detect what text is in what position. Besides, I want the library able to handle unicode and Chinese characters. I've searched for a few days but still cannot find anything suitable. I've tried xpdf, but it is written in c++. I don't know how to use c++ code in iPhone app. I've also tried http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cpp/ExtractPDFText.aspx but it does not handle Chinese characters. I've tried to code by myself, but the encoding in PDF is really complicated. For example, I don't know what to refer to when I want to decode the text by the following font: 8 0 obj << /Type /Font /Subtype /Type0 /Encoding /Identity-H /BaseFont /RNXJTV+PMingLiU /DescendantFonts [ 157 0 R ] >> endobj 157 0 obj << /Type /Font /Subtype /CIDFontType2 /BaseFont /RNXJTV+PMingLiU /CIDSystemInfo << /Registry (Adobe) /Ordering (CNS1) /Supplement 0 >> /FontDescriptor 158 0 R /W 161 0 R /DW 1000 /CIDToGIDMap 162 0 R >> endobj 158 0 obj << /Type /FontDescriptor /Ascent 801 /CapHeight 711 /Descent -199 /Flags 32 /FontBBox [0 -199 999 801] /FontName /RNXJTV+PMingLiU /ItalicAngle 0 /StemV 0 /Leading 199 /MaxWidth 1000 /XHeight 533 /FontFile2 159 0 R >> endobj

  • Objective C: Can't find .js file in my mainBundle?!

    - by Nic Hubbard
    This is driving me crazy as I cannot figure out what in the world is going on. I load up files form you main bundle all the time, xml files, html files, etc. But, now I am trying to get the contents of a javascript file but it can never find it. I am using: NSData *jsData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"global" ofType:@"js"]]; if (jsData) { NSLog(@"%@", jsData); } else { NSLog(@"Can't find file"); return; } Even checking the [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"global" ofType:@"js"] string returns null. My activity.js file is in my Resources folder, the exact location where my other files are location that work totally fine using the above method. Why can't it find my js file?

  • Is there a concise way to map a string to an enum in Objective-C?

    - by zekel
    I have a string I want to parse and return an equivalent enum. I need to use the enum type elsewhere, and I think I like how I'm defining the class. The problem is that I don't know a good way to check the string against the enum values without being redundant about the order of the enums. typedef enum { ZZColorRed, ZZColorGreen, ZZColorBlue, } ZZColorType; - (ZZColorType)parseColor:(NSString *)inputString { // inputString will be @"red", @"green", or @"blue" (trust me) // how can I turn that into ZZColorRed, etc. without // redefining their order like this? NSArray *colors = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"red", @"green", @"blue", nil]; return [colors indexOfObject:inputString]; } In Python, I'd probably do something like the following, although to be honest I'm not in love with that either. ## maps url text -> constant string RED_CONSTANT = 1 BLUE_CONSTANT = 2 GREEN_CONSTANT = 3 TYPES = { 'red': RED_CONSTANT, 'green': GREEN_CONSTANT, 'blue': BLUE_CONSTANT, } def parseColor(inputString): return TYPES.get(inputString) ps. I know there are color constants in Cocoa, this is just an example.

  • How to static analyze C++ and Objective-C++ code?

    - by Plumenator
    The "Build and analyze" option doesn't seem to work for .cpp and .mm files. I tried "clang --analyze" on individual files without any standard #includes and it works well. However I'm not able to run it on my Xcode project. I couldn't figure out a way to make clang find the standard #includes like even UIKit.h. Any clues?

  • how to change uibutton title at runtime in objective c?

    - by Sarah
    Hello, I know this question is asked many a times,and i am also implementing the same funda for chanding the title of the uibutton i guess. Let me clarify my problem first. I have one uibutton named btnType, on clicking of what one picker pops up and after selecting one value,i am hitting done button to hide the picker and at the same time i am changing the the title of the uibutton with code [btnType setTitle:btnTitle forState:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [btnType setTitleColor:[UIColor redColor] forState:UIControlEventAllEvents]; But with my surpriaze,it is not changed and application crashes with signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I am not getting where i am making mistake.I have allocated memory to the btnType at viewdidLoad. Also I am using -(IBAction)pressAddType { toolBar.hidden = FALSE; dateTypePicker.hidden = FALSE; } event on pressing the button to open the picker. Also i would like to mention that i have made connection with IB with event TouchUpInside for pressAddType. Any guesses? I will be grateful if you could help me. Thanks.

  • Objective-C style question: do "release" or "nil" properties in dealloc?

    - by Piotr Czapla
    Hi, Apple usually release ivars in dealloc but is there anything wrong with nilling the properties in dealloc? I mean instead of this: - (void) dealoc(){ [myRetainedProperty release]; [super dealloc]; } write code like this: - (void) dealoc(){ self.myRetainedProperty = nil; [super dealloc]; } I know that it is one additional method call but on the other hand it is safer as it doesn't crashes when you change your property form retain to assign and forget to amend dealloc. What do you think? Can you think about any other reason to use release instead of setting nil besides performance?

  • Objective-C Result from a Static Method saved to class instance variable giving "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" when used.

    - by KinGBin
    I am trying to store the md5 string as a class instance variable instead of the actual password. I have a static function that will return a md5 string which I'm trying to store in an instance variable instead of the actual password. I have the following setter for my class instance variable: -(void)setPassword:(NSString *)newpass{ if(newpass != password){ password = [utils md5HexDigest:newpass]; } } This will pass back the correct md5 string and save it to the password variable in my init function: [self setPassword:pword];. If I call another instance method and try to access self.password" I will get "EXC_BAD_ACCESS". I understand that the memory is getting released, but I have no clue to make sure it stays. I have tried alloc init with autorelease with no luck. This is the md5HexDigest function getting called during the init (graciously found in another stackoverflow question): + (NSString*)md5HexDigest:(NSString*)input { const char* str = [input UTF8String]; unsigned char result[CC_MD5_DIGEST_LENGTH]; CC_MD5(str, strlen(str), result); NSMutableString *ret = [NSMutableString stringWithCapacity:CC_MD5_DIGEST_LENGTH*2]; for(int i = 0; i<CC_MD5_DIGEST_LENGTH; i++) { [ret appendFormat:@"%02x",result[i]]; } return ret; } Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. I would rather have the md5 string saved in memory than the actual password calling the md5 every time I needed to use the password. Thanks in advance.
