  • System Account Logon Failures ever 30 seconds

    - by floyd
We have two Windows 2008 R2 SP1 servers running in a SQL failover cluster. On one of them we are getting the following events in the security log every 30 seconds. The parts that are blank are actually blank. Has anyone seen similar issues, or assist in tracking down the cause of these events? No other event logs show anything relevant that I can tell. Our exchange server has suddenly stopped serving mobile devices. Attempts to connect result in our ActiveSync server returning HTTP 500. It is serving outlook clients fine. • Core i7 on linux loses its multithreading capability after suspend

    - by rafak
On my debian-linux system, with a core i7 920 , each time I resume after the command "pm-suspend" (suspend to RAM), mutlithreading capabilities almost disappear. More specifically, two distinct programs can use 2 distinct cores at full rate, but a single program is limited to only one core (for one instance of a multithreaded program as well as multiple instances of a monothreaded program, e.g. "make -j 4" for gcc). So I end up rebooting the system. Any help appreciated!

  • Why is my router not routing?

    - by dwj
Starting a week and half ago my router stopped working with my cable modem. I went to sleep with it working and woke up with it not. I swapped in another router and am still having issues; I was gone for 10 days so now I'm back to trying to figure it out. While I was gone I left everything (cable modem, router, and computer) powered off. My setup: Comcast Ambit cable modem (from Comcast) Netgear WGR614 v4 router -- replaced with Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 Windows XP SP3 other computers, all currently unplugged The modem is using the firmware (ver 2.105.2001) provided by Comcast; hardware version 1.3 The Linksys router is using FW ver 4.71.4 (latest for this release of HW), factory defaults I am only using the wired connections; no wireless. I have swapped out all of the cat5 cable. If I plug my computer directly into the cable modem, I can ping by name or number. Everything works perfectly. If I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem, I cannot access anything outside of my local network. This is the exact setup I've used for the past 5 years; there were no changes in the past year. Now here's the interesting part: I can log into the Linksys router and get status information from it; everything appears good. Using the Diagnostics, I can run ping and traceroute to any site on the internet. These work perfectly. From my computer, I can ping the router and the modem. However, I cannot ping anything on the internet by with name or number. If I plug in another computer, I can ping it successfully. I've included two transcripts below that show these two attempts. Addresses, DNS, gateways, etc. look good. I cannot access the internet through either router. I am at a loss here. Suggestions? Help! • Suspend only works once after full power cycle with ASUS P7P55D-E Pro

    - by John Chadwick
This one is strange. I can't seem to get suspend working more than once per power cycle. When I say "power cycle," I mean the only way to get one proper suspend is to cut power from the power supply and boot back up cold. After the proper suspend, I get a failed suspend, and after all reboots or cold boots until power is cut, suspends fail. I'm using an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro with a Sandy Bridge Core i7, running on Ubuntu Precise repositories and UEFI. I'm running Nouveau from repository (And Gallium3d compiled from git, but that does not come into this since I can avoid OpenGL and it still happens the same way) with a GTX 285 (nv50.) I had to build a custom kernel (3.3) in order for ACPI 5.0 to be supported and make suspend work at all. I compiled it using the latest Ubuntu kernel's config file with the additional entries set to the default options. All packages are up to date. I know these are relatively exotic settings, but I'm hoping maybe I can get some help anyways. The behavior when suspend fails is strange. Upon a proper suspend, all fans turn off and the only led left on, the power led, is blinking. Upon a failed suspend, 1. USB power remains. 2. The power led stays on solid. 3. All fans seem to still be on. 4. I can hear what I believe is the primary harddrive shutting off. 5. Despite USB power remaining, the USB powered keyboard does not respond to anything, and the indicator leds on it shut off. Pressing the power button does nothing, and of course I have not to date found a way to wake it up. When trouble shooting the first round of issues I got with suspend not too long ago, I ended up building a list of modules to disable upon sleeping. Here's my config file for them: In /etc/pm/config.d/01modules: SUSPEND_MODULES="uhci_hd ehci_hd button" All of my other pm configuration files are stock. In case it's any help, here are my relevant BIOS settings. Thanks.

  • Listview selects mutliple items when clicked

    - by xlph
    I'm trying to make a task manager, and I only have one problem. I have a listview that gets inflated. All the elements in the listview are correct. The problem is that when I select an item, the listview will select another item away. I've heard listviews repopulate the list as it scrolls down to save memory. I think this may be some sort of problem. Here is a picture of the problem. If i had more apps loaded, then it would continue to select multiple at once. Here is the code of my adapter and activity and XML associated public class TaskAdapter extends BaseAdapter{ private Context mContext; private List<TaskInfo> mListAppInfo; private PackageManager mPack; public TaskAdapter(Context c, List<TaskInfo> list, PackageManager pack) { mContext = c; mListAppInfo = list; mPack = pack; } @Override public int getCount() { return mListAppInfo.size(); } @Override public Object getItem(int position) { return mListAppInfo.get(position); } @Override public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } @Override public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { TaskInfo entry = mListAppInfo.get(position); if (convertView == null) { LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(mContext); //System.out.println("Setting LayoutInflater in TaskAdapter " +mContext +" " +R.layout.taskinfo +" " +R.id.tmbox); convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.taskinfo,null); } ImageView ivIcon = (ImageView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.tmImage); ivIcon.setImageDrawable(entry.getIcon()); TextView tvName = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.tmbox); tvName.setText(entry.getName()); convertView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { final CheckBox checkBox = (CheckBox)v.findViewById(R.id.tmbox); if(v.isSelected()) { System.out.println("Listview not selected "); //CK.get(arg2).setChecked(false); checkBox.setChecked(false); v.setSelected(false); } else { System.out.println("Listview selected "); //CK.get(arg2).setChecked(true); checkBox.setChecked(true); v.setSelected(true); } } }); return convertView; public class TaskManager extends Activity implements Runnable { private ProgressDialog pd; private TextView ram; private String s; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.taskpage); setTitleColor(Color.YELLOW); Thread thread = new Thread(this); thread.start(); } @Override public void run() { //System.out.println("In Taskmanager Run() Thread"); final PackageManager pm = getPackageManager(); final ListView box = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.cBoxSpace); final List<TaskInfo> CK = populate(box, pm); runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { ram.setText(s); box.setAdapter(new TaskAdapter(TaskManager.this, CK, pm)); //System.out.println("In Taskmanager runnable Run()"); endChecked(CK); } }); handler.sendEmptyMessage(0); } Taskinfo.xml <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:gravity="center_horizontal"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/tmImage" android:layout_width="48dp" android:layout_height="48dp" android:scaleType="centerCrop" android:adjustViewBounds="false" android:focusable="false" /> <CheckBox android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/tmbox" android:lines="2"/> </LinearLayout> Taskpage.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> <ListView android:id="@+id/cBoxSpace" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="400dp" android:orientation="vertical"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/RAM" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="18sp" /> <Button android:id="@+id/endButton" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="End Selected Tasks" /> </LinearLayout> Any ideas for what reason mutliple items are selected with a single click would be GREATLY appreciated. I've been messing around with different implementations and listeners and listadapters but to no avail.

  • multiple puppet masters set up using inventory

    - by Oli
I have managed to set up multiple puppet masters with one puppet master acting as a CA and clients are able to get a certificate from this CA server but use their designated puppet master to get their manifests. See this question for more info.. multiple puppet masters. However, there are a couple of things I have had to do to get this working correctly and have an error which I'll get to. First of all, to get inventory working for a puppet-client (PC) connecting to its designated puppet-master (PM), I had to copy the CA certs on PM1 to the PM2 ca directory. I ran this command: scp [email protected]:/var/lib/puppet/ssl/ca/* [email protected]:/var/lib/puppet/ssl/ca/. Once i have done that, I was able to uncomment the SSLCertificateChainFile, SSLCACertificateFile & SSLCARevocationFile section of my rack.conf VH file on the PM2. Once I had done this, inventory started to work. Does this sound an acceptable way to do things? Secondly, in the puppet.conf file, I am setting the designated PM server for that client. Unless there is a better way, this is how it'll work in my production setup. So PC1 will talk to PM1 and PC2 will talk to PM2. This is where I have an error. When PC2 first requests a cert from the CA on PM1, the cert appears and then I sign the cert on the CA on PM1. When I then do a puppet agent --test on PC2 (which has server = PM2 in puppet.conf), I get this error: Warning: Unable to fetch my node definition, but the agent run will continue: Warning: Error 403 on SERVER: Forbidden request: puppet-master2.test.net(10.1.1.161) access to /certificate_revocation_list/ca [find] at :112 However, if I change the PC2 puppet.conf file and specify server = PM1 and the rerun puppet agent --test, i do not get any errors. I can then revert the change in the puppet.conf file back to server = PM2 and everything seems to run normally. Do I have to set up some kind of ProxyPassMatch on PM2 for requests made from clients to /certificate_revocation_list/* and redirect them to PM1? Or how can I fix this error? Cheers, Oli

  • Why is my Mac contacting Romania?

    - by Jack
I just used Onyx to clean out my caches and log files after which I did a reboot. Browsing the "All Messages" panel of the Console app I noticed this line: 10/27/13 3:38:03.000 PM kernel: 5.106.198.19 Since I did not recognize that IP I did a whois and to my surprise found out that it points to Eurolan Solutions in Romania. So my question is why is my Mac 10.7.5 contacting Romania and how can I stop this from happening? Many thanks

  • Is DHCP lease expriring years from now okay?

    - by sharptooth
I'm reviewing Azure web role logs and there's output from ipconfig /all IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.61.145.37(Preferred) . Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0. Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Monday, September 24, 2012 12:26:00 PM. Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, October 31, 2148 6:55:12 PM. you see, the lease expires in year 2148 but my VM will likely not run for more than one month - when I deploy the new version of my code I first deploy it to new VMs, then switch traffic, then release the new VMs. In general such usage pattern is normal - VMs typically live from several dozen minutes to several weeks on Azure. I suspect the lease that long will cause problems on the internal Azure network sooner or later. Is such long DHCP lease okay or is it likely a misconfiguration?

  • Computer suddenly dies; screen displays weird flickering lines, then restarts

    - by Imray
I've been having this terrible problem for a little while and just managed to get a picture of 'dead screen' for the first time and I am posting it to seek help. Randomly, at irregular intervals (typically once a week), while working on something (it's been different things every time) my computer will just suddenly go dead - the screen turns to exactly the picture below (the lines flicker a little bit), it hangs there for a few seconds and then restarts. Obviously this is extremely frustrating and I want to try to stop it. I've searched numerous postings with similar keywords but nothing exactly the same as mine. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? I would post all my system settings and installed programs but the list is long and I don't know how much relevance each item would be. If you'd like to know something specific, please comment and I'll let you know whatever you need. • Can only bring up one of two interfaces

    - by mstaessen
I'm having a bizarre issue with my HP Proliant DL 360 G4p server. It has two gigabit ethernet interfaces but I can bring up only one of them. This is starting to freak me out and that's why I turned here. I'm running the x64 ubuntu 11.10 server edition. lshw -c network shows that the second interface is disabled. I have no idea why ans how to enable it. $ sudo lshw -c network *-network:0 description: Ethernet interface product: NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@0000:02:02.0 logical name: eth0 version: 10 serial: 00:18:71:e3:6d:26 size: 100Mbit/s capacity: 1Gbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pcix pm vpd msi bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=tg3 driverversion=3.119 duplex=full firmware=5704-v3.27b, ASFIPMIc v2.36 ip=10.48.8.x latency=64 link=yes mingnt=64 multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=100Mbit/s resources: irq:25 memory:fdf70000-fdf7ffff *-network:1 DISABLED description: Ethernet interface product: NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 2.1 bus info: pci@0000:02:02.1 logical name: eth1 version: 10 serial: 00:18:71:e3:6d:25 capacity: 1Gbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pcix pm vpd msi bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=tg3 driverversion=3.119 firmware=5704-v3.27b latency=64 link=no mingnt=64 multicast=yes port=twisted pair resources: irq:26 memory:fdf60000-fdf6ffff If I try to ifup eth1, then I get $ sudo ifup eth1 Ignoring unknown interface eth1=eth1. I figured that's what happens when there is no eth1 listed in /etc/network/interfaces. But when I add the configuration for eth1, I still can't ifup. $ sudo ifup eth1 RTNETLINK answers: File exists Failed to bring up eth1. I've also tried ifconfig eth1 up but without any result. For clarity, I have added a masked version of /etc/network/interfaces. I don't think it is the cause of the problem though. $ cat /etc/network/interfaces # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them.
