I need to program an application on a touchscreen (fullscreen), where people can fill in a survey. The only thing they should use is this program. (for protection of the survey anwsers and other secret stuff :p ) And the program should be closed when entering the right password. So how can I disable everything else but the program I'm running?     Berkeley DB Java Edition 5.0 was just released. There are a number of new features, enhancements, and options in there that our users have been asking for. Chief among them is a new class called DiskOrderedCursor, which greatly increases performance of systems using spinning platter magnetic hard drives. A number of users expressed interest in this feature, including Alex Feinberg of LinkedIn. Berkeley DB Java Edition is part of Project Voldemort, a distributed key/value database used by LinkedIn. There have been many other improvements and optimizations. Concurrency is significantly improved, as is the performance of update and delete operations. New and interesting methods include Environment.preload, which allows multiple databases to be preloaded simultaneously. New Cursor methods enable for more effective searching through the database. We continue to enhance Berkeley DB Java Edition’s High Availability as well. One new feature is the ability to open a replicated node read-only when the master is unavailable.   • minecraft wont take keyboard input

    After upgrading to 13.10 FTB(minecraft) wont take keyboard input after login in. I can click the buttons but it will not let me type in a address on multiplayer, or copy/paste with mouse. Since upgrading I cannot run the other mod packs either, only the one I had installed from 13.04. There will be basic CRUD opreations (Insert, Update, Delete, & select), which means there will be chances of deadlock, or two users trying to update the same record at same time. I'm using the following Java Swing for Clients (MVC). MySQL Server for database (InnODB). Java Web start. Now, MySQL is centralized on the network, and all of the clients connect to it. The Application for ERP Purpose. I searched the internet to find a very good solution to ensure data integrity & to make sure that when updating one record from one client, other clients are aware of it. I read about Socket-server-client & RESTful web services. I don't want to go web application & don't want to use any extra libraries. So how can I handle this scenario: If User A updates a record: Is there a way to update User B's screen with the new value? If user A starts updating a record, how can I prevent other users from attempting to update the same record?

    I am working in a private bank, a leading mid size bank in local market. We are going to create our core banking solution. Existing solution has been developed on Java using IBM Visual Age 4.0. It is very important to discuss architecture first, we have currently more than 350 branches working in standalone mode, and it means they are working in self contained environment. They have their own database server (IBM DB2 9.7) and they are communicating with other branches via sockets to send and receive data. Having experience of .NET for more than 5 years I am trying to convince my superiors to choose .NET platform, but they are reluctant and unwilling. It is my job to encourage them for choosing best available platform to create large scale enterprise application. In simple word, we are going to create a very large scale enterprise financial application, a centralize and integrated which connects all branch networks plus having scalable, solid architecture that easily evolve over time. I want professional people to comment on above scenarios. Which platform to choose .NET or Java? Our all resource is currently working in Java, we have homogeneous environment (no Linux, no Mac and no UNIX). Any idea, any thoughts, any points technical or non-technical i.e. administrative or management point of view will be really appreciated.

    I'm thinking of developing a proxy-like program to forward ports on a remote PC to a local PC (for example SSH). Assume that both local and remote PCs are running behind typical firewalls (i.e. consumer broadband router firewall, Windows firewall or corporate firewalls). The program will be a Java program which the user will run on both the remote and local PC. The remote client will periodically poll a central server to determine whether there are pending client connections. A session could be initiated as follows: The local client contacts the central server and request the current connection details for a specific remote client. The central server responds with the remote server's last received IP address and port. The next time the remote server polls the central server, the client's IP address and port are returned. The remote server initiates a connection to the local client using the IP address and port returned by the central server and listens for a response on a random port. The remote server will pass the value of the port it's listening on to central server. Goto 1, if client fails to connect to server. Would this work or will a typical firewall block the interactions.

  • how to create java zip archives with a max file size limit [closed]

    I need to write an algorithm in java (for an android app) to read a folder containing more folders and each of those containing images and audio files so the structure is this: mainDir/subfolders/myFile1.jpg It must be in java, something like perl script is not an option. It would preferably be for the compressed archive in order to squeeze as many files as possible before mailing the zip. Just a normal zip (no jar). My problem is that I need to limit the size of the archive to 16mb and at runtime, create as many archives as needed to contain all my files from my main mainDir folder. I tried several examples from the net, I read the java documentation, but I can't manage to understand and put it all together the way I need it. Has someone done this before or has a link or an example for me? I resolved the reading of the files with a recursive method but I can't write the logic for the zip creation I'm open for suggestions or better, a working example. EDIT: FileNotFoundException (no such file or directory) this was my initial post at Stack Overflow. I've got an answer to it, but I can't set the size of the ZipEntry and the logic doesn't work and also when extracting the my files from the zip I get the compression method not supported error.

    I'm a web developer and I've used PHP, along with MySQL, Javascript, jQuery etc; all of which I'm very confident with and can use on a professional level. What I'm wanting to do however, is to start using Java instead of PHP as I'm creating sites that need to be scalable. I really need a starting point. I can program in Java, I understand the language but have never used it for the web. Links, tutorials, examples would be a great help. I have also considered using Scala (the language Twitter is written in).. but don't really understand the benefits. Please no jargon; I need clear information that essentially takes me through the process of creating a very simple website using Java; I'm more than capable of building the site once that's done.. I think. I've previously used Eclipse so if assume I can. Thanks in advance!

  • Help Decide between C#/XNA client or Java

    The game runs on a client/server architecture currently setup for TCP, and the client code was built in AS3 to be web based. What we're running into is 3 problems for the client. AS3 has no hardware acceleration so we are having some issues with slowdown when implementing some features TCP is really frustrating for a sidescroller when you're talking with a server. I'm having a heck of a time with the interpolation/extrapolation to make everyone else look smooth while minimizing lag. I would much rather be able to use UDP and throw in something similar to the age old Quake interpolation/extrapolation. No right click I work professionally with C#, and I did all my University (almost 2 years ago) with Java. Java really appeals to me because of the compatability while C# appeals to me because I've heard so much good about XNA and I love visual studio. For a Client/Server based MMOish sidescroller in your opinion should I stick with AS3 and the TCP protocol, or should I abandon some of my audience, ramp up the graphics and hit C#, or journey back to the land of Java. After fixing compiler errors I need to run test cases related to the changed method (or class) to know it is correct and if not which test cases failed. As the programs under investigation are very big, I only need to run test cases related to changes. As an example, if I change one method, then I need to only run test cases related to this method. Therefore, what I need is to programmatically be able to find test cases related to each method, and class. It is also useful if there is a tool that can do that for me. As an example, a tool which creates a matrix shows each test case is related to which method(s) One easy way to do that is to run all test cases and save functions they accessed. However, the problem is at the beginning the input program contains compiler error and it is not possible to run test cases because of these compiler error. Please let me know what is the best way to do that. An API or a tool that I can be used programmatically is the best for me.
