  In Chrome, when I click on a mailto: link, I'd like to be taken to my Gmail's Compose window. So I downloaded ChromeMailer and it works relatively well. However, after using Outlook 2010, the default for the mailto reverts to Outlook. I went into Outlook's Options, clicked Default Programs... and was greeted with this: As you can see, the checkbox is grayed out and I can't do anything to changed it. Clicking Select All checkbox does nothing either. How do I stop Outlook from stealing the mailto protocol handler?

  As a programmer, I feel burnt out if the management give me spec after spec, day after day. I think I can code 6 hours a day very focused, but non-stop coding does burn me out a little, especially it is 1 year or 18 months non-stop. A mere 1 week or 2 week vacation per year isn't going to help much. Sometimes I want to take some time to learn new things, or just to take a break for a month so as to re-charge, like back in college when we have holidays for 1 month during winter or 2.5 months during summer. What do you think?

• How to stop basic Postfix after-queue script from BCC-ing sender?

  I'm building a content filter for Postfix (2.9.3 package installed via apt on an Ubuntu 12.04 test VM) and I'm starting with a very basic Ruby (1.9.3) template and building up functionality. Strangely, when the script is enabled, messages sent are being forwarded on as normal, but also sent back to the sender which is not normal. Disabling the script disables this behavior. Any suggestions about what I have to change to stop that from happening?   My Windows 8 machine is going to restart shortly... I have tried a few techniques such as shutdown /a which is not having much luck. Short of pausing the Windows Update service, is there anyway to stop this restart from happening? ---update--- Looks like the "restart" is all talk and no action! The time has gone and I am presented with this: So, it goes along with the top answer here (which I shall shortly accept) --- update again--- It did reset!!! My battery went critical and it turned itself off, I turned it back on (out of suspend) when it was plugged in, I logged in and the first thing it did was automatically restart - closing my open tabs in Chrome :( Oh well...

• How to stop an Android Service ONLY when there are no other activities in my app running?

  Is there a way I can test if there are any other activities in my app still alive? I am looking to stop a service in an onDestroy method, but only want to do this if there are no other activities from my app still alive on the stack. I have the call stop the service in the main activity's onDestroy() method. This works perfect EXCEPT that if a user launches my app, then launches a few activities in my app, then hits the home screen and RELAUNCHES my app, they will subvert my order and the main activity will now be above other activities of my app. From this state, if they hit the back button and 'back out' of my home screen they will trigger the onDestroy() method and kill the service even though there are other activities open on the stack. I want to avoid this by stopping the service ONLY if I am sure there are no other activities of mine open on the stack. Possible?

• How can I stop Windows DNS server properties settings from changing by themselves?

  When I open the DNS console in Administrative tools, I keep finding a couple of problems which keep on reappearing by themselves, and I want to stop them from happening. One of the DNS servers has two network interfaces, and it should only be listening for requests on of them, and I get errors in the Event Log otherwise. But when right clicking one DNS server and selecting Properties, I can see on the Interfaces tab that 'All IP addresses' is selected. If I Change it to 'Only the following IP addresses:' and deleselect the WAN addess, I will find it reslected when I next check it after a couple of days. In the other DNS server's Properties, on the Forwarders tab, there should only be two forwarder addresses. However, the address for the router keeps in appearing. This router has the DNS server as its forwarder. There shouldn't be anything using the router's DNS forwarders for DNS other than the router itself, but this surely is causing a loop. How do I get these properties on both DNS servers to stick?

I'm at a web page, any web page, and I am scrolling back to the top of the page with the up arrow key as I tend to do when browsing a page and once I get to the top of the page if I don't pay attention and hit the key one more times than is needed Chromium in all it's wisdom decides I must want to do something with the address so it places the focus in the address bar. ARGH! Any way to stop this? I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and have installed the nightly build version of Chromium PPA.

  While trying to install Windows 7 x86 Ultimate on Samsung M40 laptop (Pentium M 1.7 Dothan, 2 GB RAM/ 100 GB HDD) i receive BSOD STOP: 0x000000A5: The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated bios. The bios on the system is updated to latest version. If ACPI is the real source of the issue it means that I possibly could use another HAL library. In Windows XP it is possible to install system with generic HAL library pressing F7 when installer asks to supply drivers, but on Windows 7 I can't find such option. Ironically, Vista installs and works nice, even if they said that Windows 7 is less demanding for hardware. Windows 7 Advisor also tells nothing suspicious. Can anybody tell me how to customize Windows 7 installer to use generic HAL library (if it is possible, of course) or point me to another solution?

  After manually setting the display brightness on my laptop, the system re-sets the value. If the laptop is plugged in, the value is set to full brightness; if it is not plugged in, it is set to dimmer. How do I stop that behavior? Note that I am not talking about what it does in response to the event of plugging in or unplugging my system. It changes on it's own - usually several minutes after I change the brightness value. I have observed this behavior on different systems, different distributions, and different desktop environments.

  I'm using GNU Freetalk along with expect in order to send notifications to my phone – Freetalk has a readline interface, and I use expect to make a series of non interactive scripts that send information to another Jabber account. I'd like to have these scripts end freetalk 'properly' – that is to say user@domainname message one user@domainname message two /quit which would print out message one message two then quit. However Freetalk 'helpfully' adds user@domainame automatically so I get message one message two /quit as the output. The expect script still ends, but there's a delay. How would I stop Freetalk from adding in the 'buddy' address automatically?

• My windows keyboard is being "clever" with the quote keys - how can I stop it?

  I'm using windows 7 on a laptop. On the laptop keyboard, for some reason, the quote key (which has both double and single quote on it) is doing some "clever" annoying things: When I press single-quote (or double-quote), windows doesn't send any characters until I press it twice (resulting in '' or "") When I press it before a vowel, I get some kind of accented character. As I usually only write English, this is annoying. The backtick/tilde key is subject to similar behaviour. I have not attempted to set up my computer to process anything other than English. My keyboard appears to be (in so far as these things are standard on laptops) a standard US qwerty keyboard. How can I stop this happening?

Actually I want to capture the interval between the scrolling start and stop when I very quickly scroll the mouse wheel. I have already looked at MouseWheel event but it don't fulfill my requirement. In senes that it always gives a value of Delta 120 or -120 but i want to call a function depending on the speed of the mouse scroll for example when i scroll the mouse normally i want to perform function 1 and when i scrolled the mouse very quickly i want to perform the function 2. In other words is there any way to distinguish between the mouse scroll high and normal speed. Any advice will be appreciated.

• jQuery: How to stop propagation of a bound function not the entire event?

  I have a click function bound to many elements. It is possible that sometimes these elements may sit within one another. So, the click event is bound to a child and also bound to its parent. The method is specific to the element clicked. Naturally, because of event bubbling, the child's event is fired first, and then the parents. I cannot have them both called at the same time because the parents event overwrites the event of the child. So I could use event.stopPropagation() so only the first element clicked receives the event. The problem is that there are other click events also attached to the element, for example, I am using jQuery's draggable on these elements. If I stop the propagation of the click event, then draggable doesn't work, and the following click events are not called. So my question is: Is there a way to stop the event bubbling of the method the event will call and not the entire event?

Is there any way to stop it besides enclosing the option in quotes?   I have a feeling I'm either misunderstanding the 'stop' event or not doing it right, but it seems to be called several times while the element is bound to is being dragged. makeAllDragable = function () { $(".test-table").draggable({ start: function (event, ui) { $(this).click(); }, stop: function (event, ui) { foo() } }).click(function () { selectTable($(this)); }); } foo = function () { alert("test"); } In this example foo is called about 30 times, shouldn't is just be when I release the draggable?   At work we have a C# solution with over 80 projects. Is it possible in VS 2010 to automatically stop compilation as soon as an error is encountered rather than the default behaviour which is to continue as far as possible and display a list of errors in the error window? I'm happy for it to stop either as soon as an error is encountered (file-level) or as soon as a project fails to build (project-level). I'd also note that in VS 2008 we used macros similar to some of the answers below but they don't work in VS 2010 (at least I couldn't get them to as the environment events don't seem to fire in VS 2010).

• How to stop an activity with GL view. Application not responding

  I have an activity that I want to programmatically stop after some elapsed time. I have a GL view running. My understanding is that the GLSurfaceView.renderer is running in its own thread, so I created a handler instantiated from the activity. In the GLSurfaceView I post a message. The handler then attempts to stop the activity with the following: onStop(); finish(); The activity seems to close. However, if I try to restart the application, I get a blank screen, the phone is practically locked up and eventually I get a message that the activity in the application is not responding. I'm also getting geting a wake lock, ie PowerManager.newWakeLock(...). When I try to release it, I get an exception. Not sure if its the GL view of the wake lock which is causing me troubles. Any ideas appreciated.

• Windows has automatically mapped my network drives to my local disk - how do I stop it doing so?

  Windows XP decided when I logged on that because the network was unavailable at the time that two of my network drives should be mapped to my local drive so that data would be saved. All well and good but I need it to stop now so I can use my network drives again. I can't find anything relating to the feature but I can't remember the specifics of the message it gave me when it started this operating mode and Google searches for the sort of terms above leads me to a slew of irrelevancies. • Server stop responding, where to look to know what happened?

  I have a server that has been running for well over 5 months and suddently it stop responding. I couldn't ssh into it or anything else so I decided to reboot it and the reboot fixed it. I'm trying to figure out what happened and I'm not sure exactly where to look. I started to look in /var/log but there are tons of files in there and I'm not sure which one I should pay attention to. I'm slowly going through each one of them but if anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be great. Thanks!

  In Linux (CentOS 5.4), how do you force a process to stop locking a file system without killing the process? I am trying to get my Java Webstart Application, running locally, to eject a CD. I do not have this problem if I am just browsing through the files using a JFileChooser, but once I read the contents of a file, I can no longer eject the CD...even after removing ALL references to any files. Hitting the eject button will give the error (Title - "Cannot Eject Volume"): "An application is preventing the volume 'volume name' from being ejected" Thus, my goal is to tell the process to stop targeting the CD-ROM in order to free it up. Thank you for any help or direction!! Attempted Fix: -running the commands: sudo umount -l /media/Volume_Name //-l Lazy Unmount forces the unmount sudo eject Problem: When a new CD is inserted, it is no longer mounted automatically probably because the process is still "targeting" it.
